Since theres a thread for manga recommendations i thought i would make one for animes, mangas you wouldent recommend or just plain hate.
Manga you WOULD'NT recommend
-
-
I wouldnt recoment Bleach , HunterXHunter and Rave to anyone.
Bleach just trolls the reader with empty panels.
HxH is obvius. Its on hiatus a lot.
Rave is because i cant find any scans with good quality. -
Anything by Miki Aihara (Hot Gimmick, Honey Hunt). She's popular, and that's cause she writes soap operas, but don't read it. You'll just want to strangle her female characters for being so goddamn stupid and timid.
-
Rave is really, really bad.
Gyo is stupid. And the whole of ecchi genre, because it's ecchi genre.
-
Marmalade Boy, Vampire Knight, anything by Miki Aihara…
-
Happy World.
It's at times hilariously bad, but it's also all over the place and generally terrible. It starts as a bland slice-of-life story about an angel helping a kid with bad luck, then evolves into a bland shonen manga, then all the main character start fighting demons that maim themselves, then suddenly…Iraq!
-
this thread should have been made years ago when i started reading manga. i've read Rave, Marmalade Boy, Vampire Knight, HXH, Bleach… and i never got through to the end of any of them. i feel like i've lost half my thinking ability trying to follow them.
also, don't read Pretty Face.
-
The stuff by Showshow Kurihara.
Not gonna go there.
-
I wouldnt recoment Bleach , HunterXHunter and Rave to anyone.
HxH might be on hiatus often, but that doesn't affect it's quality. It's an excellent manga full of interesting ideas.
I wouldn't recommend Bleach, Reborn, Air Gear, or any ecchi manga.
-
inb4 MASSIVE Spam of "Bleach and Naruto".
I mean, you shouldn't read them, they're both mangas that have interesting starts that peter off and just get annoyingly redundant eventually, but it's gotten to the point where I think we ALL get it by now…
-
The stuff by Showshow Kurihara.
I think this might deserve a bit of clarity, now that I think about it. While almost all manga is nationalistic to some extent (yes, even One Piece), some are more subtle about it than others - for example, One Piece.
This is one of those not-so-subtle ones.
!
A lot of you might ask, "RBoar, what in the world did you post that for?", to which I answer
metaphors
-
what did i just see

I wouldn't recommend Bleach, Reborn, Air Gear, or any ecchi manga.
HxH is interesting and at first i was rather excited to see where it'd go. but the art keeps breaking my brain, and the pacing is almost torturous at times. still, interesting plot, but i took it off my list of mangas to follow a long time ago.
and i really wish that someone had told me about Air Gear and all ecchi manga before i started reading them.
-
Ecchi Manga is basically to manga what Soft Core Porn is to movies.
Anyone who watches them pretty much knows what they're getting themselves into, and regardless of whether you really do or not, anyone who STAYS stays for one reason, and it's not the plot or the comedy.
In that respect, Ecchi manga does pretty much everything it sets out to do.
-
I would not recommend Samurai Deeper Kyo. I CAN NOT get threw this series, I have never read so much of a long series and regretted it so much. If anyone wants to buy the first 19 volumes hit me up (haha - great sell point.)
Ultimo and Deadman Wonderland (Manwa?) are also on the not recommended list. They both have great art but neither do much for me (DMW started out great however). I haven't finished Ultimo so it might be better then I am giving it credit for.
I would also tentatively add Black Cat. It is certainly not that BC is bad - only that it is always on the enjoyable side of mediocre. I am just saying that if there is 1 series you want to spend your hard earned money on collecting there are better series out there then BC. If you own a bunch of series already and don't mind collecting 20 enjoyable, if wholly unremakable, volumes BC is your manga.
-
Air Gear (went from roller blading to god knows what), Tenjou Tenge (idk wtf this was supposed to even be about… dragons and shit wtf?), New Prince of Tennis, shojou manga (every time I tried to read one, the woman was completely fucking stupid so I gave up), HxH (started off good, ended up being about killer ants and hiatuses), History's Strongest Desciple Kenichi (couldn't ever get into it), Katekyo Hitman Reborn (same), and some others that were so bad I forgot about them =3
-
I'd like to add Air Gear and Shaman King (which had a good start and then midway it turned into… well whatever the fuck was that)
-
Bleach… .
-
The manga I would not recommend would be Girls Saurus. It was a manga that kind had premise but it was executed badly.
-
Reborn. That is all.
-
pretty much any manga adaption of a gundam series
-
197x <–-- Yes, that is the title of the manga.
Your gonna waste precious minutes of your life reading it. Yes, you are sure to regret it.
-

Hot Gimmick is really famous in my country..
i would recommend any manga that i read except one piece.. only one piece i will not recommend to somebody else.. fed up with some of my friend that complain or hate one piece because of its "art" or "childish".. and they just read 1 volume.. at first don't care but when i have a fight with my uncle because i recommended one piece to him, after that i never recommend one piece to anybody..

In most cases, they read one piece when they bored and run out manga to read They need discover one piece by themselves.
-
pretty much any manga adaption of a gundam series
Gundam Crossbone is good, especially for a manga that is supposed to be a sequel to F91 (an awful film).
The novels are where it's really kind of odd.

there is a couple that are alright but most are terrible

I am waiting for someone to say Negima to summon TLS's wrath.
-
Mahou Sensei Negima: for the sole reason of being fanservice-ridden garbage for its infantile readership.
-
The World is Mine. Worst thing I have ever tried to read. Quit after 3 chapters or so.
-
Reborn.
More than anything else in JUMP.
-
Mahou Sensei Negima: for the sole reason of being fanservice-ridden garbage for its infantile readership.
Hey, that's Robby you're talkin' about!
Anyway, I would never recommend Inuyasha.
-
Anyway, I would never recommend Inuyasha.
This. I read Inuyasha five years ago and I think I liked it then, but looking back I realize that Inuyasha (the character) annoyed the shit out of me. Kagome was a useless bitch whose line I remember is only "INUYASHAAAAAAAAAA". It was so tiring to watch these kids try to beat one villain who kept getting nonsensical powerups throughout the series. Maybe the first few volumes were decent, but it sure went downhill.
I wouldn't recommend Fairy Tail. Not that it's terrible, but when I read it, I don't feel any depth at all; everything, from the plot to the characters, seems superficial. Very generic…fit for a person who is just starting to get into manga, perhaps.

Uh huh, oh yeah. Never mind it has a great story, combat, characterization, pacing, world building, power system and display and all around great life and energy that puts two of the big three to shame and is enjoyed by quite a number of members including high-level ones (for want of a better, less grandiose term) on this forum. It's got a bit of ecchi in it so it's garbage!!!

You know you really shouldn't do that:/ One, I really don't like being put on a spot like that:/ Two, it's asking people to trash-talk Negima which is never good and three I hate doing something so predictable. Makes me look like a brain-dead fanboy (even though I constantly criticise its flaws when I see them). It's only because Negima is so damn good that I rush to its protection. It's a travesty to good manga to silently let it be besmirched.

i agree, if you compare one piece to fairy tail, than fairy tail fails in every catagorie
-
All copies of Inu Yasha bar a few should be set alight and burnt in a ritualistic pyre. The ashes should then be gathered up and flown off into the sun.
The remaining few copies should be kept deep underground and only brought out when conventional torture simply doesn't work.
-
i wouldn't compare any manga to One Piece cause then i wouldn't be reading a lot of things. and honestly, i think Fairy Tail isn't that bad. i might recommend it to someone who's just getting into manga and wants something light to read…
-
Anything by Ken Akamatsu
Gantz, basically hollow cynical fanservice written by a bitter junior high student
Tokyo Red Riding Hood, because it's pedo/guro garbage
Anything by Oh! Great, or maybe just skim through it without reading the bubbles, because he is by far the worst writer in the industry yet an above average artist
Baki the fucking grappler, anatomy doesn't work that way also the main character gets a powerup after frenching his mother I shit you not
-
Might I say this a excellent thread… Some of the stuff already mentioned I had planned to read but now wont step anywhere near. I also recommend no one reads anything by OH GREAT!!! he baits you into reading his shit with a decent plot and amazing art but everything goes to hell and nothing makes sense later on... plus all I every see is naked women and awful dirty jokes just dont read that mans stuff!!1
-
Isnt this basicly a bash thread… ?
-

You…you....
That was my line. -
Peach Girl.
Like. That's like the sappiest of shojo I've read and it was just…no.
-
Tenjou Tenge
It'll just hurt your brain.
-
Inu Yasha - it's nice for the first few volumes, but it gets downhill soon. It gets really repetitive and boring, and the story is too short for 55 volumes. Inu Yasha is really dragged on.
Same goes for Ranma 1/2
Who needs 38 volumes? It's way too long, 7 or 8 volumes would be enough. -
Hey, that's Robby you're talkin' about!
Anyway, I would never recommend Inuyasha.
Almost forgot about that one. And Ranma past volume… 10.
I wouldn't recommend most harem mangas either.
-

I just find it funny actually….
-
Kyou Koi wa Hajimemasu…no, wait, mostly everything from Minami Kanan. Shitty female protagonist with shitty male protagonist.
And EVERYTHING from Shinjo Mayu. Seriously, what was this shit? Kaikan Phrase?
-

This is why you should read edit notes.
-
Oh .
-
Agreed on Ranma but I say stop before you get to the Bakusai Tenketsu arc. Before then, the series was fine…but that's where it just started getting annoying and repetitive.
For the most part I can't read Shoujo...at all...so I can't really just say it as a genre without peeving a few people off.
Bleach...well, yeah...that's a series to more read just to see "how much worse can it get?" And it doesn't dissapoint on that.
And honestly I'm a RAVE fan. Sure it gets to be a tad generic but I rather prefer some of the wackiness and cool moments and such in that series over a ton of others.

There are only 3 or 4 shoujos I can read without wanting to strangle somebody, so…
Oh and I'd add Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle to the list, especially if you read and liked CCS...
