What kind of fishman/merman would you guys want as a crew mate?
Let's just assume that we'll be getting a fishman as the next crew member. Would you prefer that fishman be someone strong that he would be part of the elite fighters of the crew(Luffy,Zoro and Sanji) or someone who possess decent fighting abilities(Franky,Robin,Chopper and arguably Brooke)?
Would he wield a weapon? I'm pulling for someone to join the crew that uses guns but then again, perhaps Robin could do that after the skip.
Some people were talking about the princess of Fishman Island. Sounds good to me.
To answer mine and Gol's questions: if female, the mermaid princess sounds like a decent option at this point. Dunno how fighting would go. If male, lionfish fishman with obvious spines and fishman karate, mid or upper tier (somewhere between Chopper/Franky/Robin and Sanji; not butting in on the Monster Trio, but potentially between Sanji and the next strongest)
Maybe she's a tomboy. I heard that theory floating around as well.

Apparently you're sexist if your male to female character ratio isn't 1:1. I get that it's good to have balance and both sexes represented, but it's just a children's comic, and until you pull a Kishi and have a character tell a female "no you stay behind and make me a grandbaby" or some other blatantly sexist thing, I don't see the harm or need to call sexism. The SHs could get 2 females, a male and a female, or 2 males for the last 2 crew mates and I wouldn't give a damn or claim that Oda's being "sexist" by making the crew "a sausage fest".

How does it work? I recall Jinbei using at Impel Down even without any water around or near him. I'm interested in it because if a citizen of FI(be it merman/mermaid,fishman/fishwoman) would most probably be using it too.
On the mermaid princess: Well, she's interesting without question. Even though she is currently a random suggestion because we haven't seen her or know of her current situation, she definitely has a better shot than Perona(Irrelevant character) and Hancock(Treaty/Would alter an entire nation's life if ever she left).
An idea for the fishwoman/mermaid(I apologize if this was posted before)

If a female fishwoman/mermaid(Not necessarily the princess) were to join, I'm pulling for a non-sex symbol, more of a tomboy and is somehow connected with the theme of romance be it a failure like Lola or irritated by the idea of male-female relationships. I'm basing that idea for her personality from the pattern that I sort of noticed: Luffy-Chopper similarity/Zoro-Robin similarity/Nami-Franky similarity/Ussop-Brooke similarity/Sanji-??? similarity.

It won't be Hancock vol.2 that we can all be sure of. Now, since it's obvious as hell that Hancock won't be joining(Perona shouldn't have been considered in the first place), I have a belief(Not an argument, just an observation) that what if characters who are princesses(Vivi) or have that title attached to their epithets(Hancock and Perona) were destined to not be crew members.

Well, now that everyone seems to have reach an agreement when it comes to the possibility of a fishman/woman or merman/maid joining, what about a citizen from Elbaf for the last spot? I mean, I'm sure Oda is gonna put that place into use and a giant who is not fodder would be a pleasant sight for once. If Octopakao was a former boss character, a girl around the same age as the younger strawhats after 3 older members joined, was able to bring down supernovas like Luffy and Zoro so easily to their knees, was a powerful fighter fighting Grand Line Pirates since she was a child, had powers perfectly suited to be a scout or a lookout an essential position in the NW where crazy shit go down on the ocean all the time (thing Capone) that was foreshadowed in chapter 304, was a former ally of an evil boss arc like Nami and Robin, was sent flying away by Kuma like the rest of the strawhats, was seen reading the newspaper deciphering Luffy's message on screen like the rest of the strawhats, had of all of her belongings on the Sunny, was brought back into the main story alongside the only strawhat that can't find his way back to sabaody by himself and thus is in an ideal position to meet the crew again, had no where else to go, was in the process of maturing, away from her former life of sloth, like the rest of the strawhats, had an almost blank slate regarding her backstory allowing Oda complete creative freedom (how does a 7 year old end up on Moria's ship ?), acted like a complete idiot at times and had many of the comedic attributes associated with the strawhats
