Oh my apologies. I didn't notice the other one. It's just this one was the first one I saw, and it was pretty high up on the first page so it didn't seem like it needed any "reviving" lol.

It should just be called Haki.
The thing is though, you don't not translate something because it sounds cool. Not translating Haki has as much ground as not translating Baka, or not translating Kaizoku.

It has as much grounds as not translating Karate or Kung Fu, nobody translates those to English why, cause they are techniques.

Well, like other Japanese words, the translation for Haki isn't set in stone, like other words. Some people are saying 'Drive' which works and sounds cool, and 'Spirit' would also work, same syllables, and contains the basic meaning.

I suppose, though I can´t shake the feeling that it has too much of a romantic connotation. Again, that wouldn´t necessarily be wrong, especially in One Piece, the only shounen where it would kinda fit, but the feeling still bothers me.
Also, while it doesn´t translate literally, Conviction may end up being way more relevant than the word Ambition, which is the literal translation… kind of. So while I am talking about the wrong meaning, I think Conviction is more representative of the word, (if I indeed understood the redonculous amount of discussion on the word) than ambition.
I still can´t help but think that this is all for naught though, what with there being independent translators who pretty much want to all invent a name themselves, or have a different opinion.
Bottom line, the only one who could possibly make a difference, if and when he decides on one, is Aohige, since the entire internet OP community looks at his trans before a chapter comes out. If he starts writing in a word, then maybe the rest'll pick it up. So if you want to campaign anywhere, do it with him. I just do it for discussion's sake.

It's because of Oda's interpretation of words that makes translation frustrating. Breaking apart the word doesn't help. It's like Oda's interpretation on Nakama, to the point it informally means "family". "Haki" now is not only the aspiration a person holds, but it's also a power one can wield, like the "Force" in Star Wars.

well i think that oda chose the word to describe the power that some people emit in the way they behave. and yes he kame up with the word just like many other mangaka who named the spiritual energy of their charachters so that the reader could understand how they can do all this magical things and have tremendus powers and stuf.. you said it your self in the anime they werent alowed to translate it because toei didnt lett them,why would they do that? any way u have your opinion and i have mine i just explained my opinion! if u dont like it just anserw in more polite way.. beacause if a sword doesnt have elegance its not a powerful sword… muahahaha

I care about what groups like KF and Yibis though. Yibis is one of the viable options for current episodes and I hate seeing stuff like Haki get changed. They do a good job other than a few translations though.
It wasn't introduced as a skill that someone performed but it's heavily implied that Teach could sense it in Luffy when he said that he figured 30 million was a bit low for a kid of that Ambition.
Didn't he mean Luffys drive as a pirate or his ambition meaning Haki? I'm thinking the former.
I find it kinda funny that all the pro "ambition" people didn't call out the haki people for just not wanting it translated because it sounds wimpy/lame. In fact if you read a lot of the suggested translations they sound like buzzwords made to just equate ambition but sound cool at the same time, like willforce, is that even a word? Another from earlier is ir of dominance, it just sounds better than ambition although it strays from the pun that Oda is using. Well atleast the english equivalent of haki isn't something like toejam.
It's best untranslated as a technique like it always was.
After reading this thread, my conviction against translating Haki has become even more stronger.
The reason that there's a debate is that some people take this far too seriously and need to lighten up and accept that there is no universal rule regarding what should or shouldn't be translated within the fan community..

If its an attack, translate it. How hard is that? We already had an haki attack translated it which i think was nicely done. Then we seen haki moves no with no translation cause it wasn't an attack.
Haki so far seems like "The Force" in Star Wars more than a simple technique.
