There's going to be a lot of egg on face going around regardless of how this evolution debate turns out. It certainly doesn't help that Serebii threw down the gauntlet and pretty much staked his reputation on them being real.
Pokemon's Fifth Generation

If those final evos are real, I'm sorry Wotter, but I might have to go Bacondorf… The change is just... jarring to say the least.

Joe has a real bad habit of doing that. He did that last time and made a big apology on Twitter about posting fake info that he thought was real.
From the looks of it, it's not a "source" telling him it's real. He's going by what he says. Not once did he say he had a source saying it was real, but the fact that he believes it's a good chance that it's real based on previous info.

No, I believe on his forums he's said it matches the info he's gotten from his source. I've been reading his forums a lot lately but I couldn't point to a specfic thread or post where he says it.
-
Either way, if it somehow does turn up to be true, I'm not evolving Smugleaf. Its evolutions are as disappointing as Chikorita's.
-
Evolutions turn out to be real, I'm catching the first pokemon I see, dropping my starter in a box and using what I caught as my starter.
-
Imma take Wotter and keep him in 2nd form if those end up real.
-
Also a person Melker of Pokexperto has been leaking lots of information regarding Pokemon on his twitter. Most are just descriptions of there appearances and he has posted fan art of what they look like, but has not shown actually sprites.
Serebii said quite a few things he posted match what his source told him. He has described many of the new ones, but nothing is confirmed for sure.
He also said the starters are grass, fire/fighting, and water.
His older posts are in Spanish, I think, but most of his current posts are English and Spanish.
here is his twitter where he has been describing them all http://twitter.com/pokexpertoLink to his website

God-damn those evolutions suck.
The Wotter pre-evo would be a cool pokemon if he was not related to Wotter in any way.
And the fire one is by far the most disappointing, especially if it ends up being another damn fire/fighting type. -
I still just can't see those evolutions being real. I don't deny them simply because I don't like their designs, but rather because they just look so fake. The most believable line to me is Pokabu's, which kinda makes sense if they were fake: Pokabu is the only one that hasn't had its 2nd stage leaked, so the evolutions look more consistent since the same artist designed them both. Something in the art style of Tsutarja's final evo also bugs me: it doesn't look like it was drawn by Sugimori at all. While still secretly being afraid of them being real, I'm almost willing to bet money on the evolutions being fake.
looks at the counter on Bulbapedia Only 8 days and 7 hours to the release! I can't wait~
-
If those are actually Pokabu's evolutions, I'm probably going to go with Pokabu.
Wotter's last evolution ruins it, and Smugleaf's second evolution ruins it.
-
@Mr.:
Serebii's inside source also claimed that Shellos evolved into Lapras, and Serebii also hasn't been that good in it's history with being trustworth (he thought Brandon was a GIRL.) So yeah, still taking those evolutions with a grain of salt.
It didnt, I was playing the game at the same time as Serebii and he assumed that when he encountered Shellos ingames, like me and many other people then he saw Gastrodon and realized it wasnt Lapras pre evo.
-
Another fire/fighting type just turns me off completely to the fire starter. I'd rather have pure fire at this point.
Pure fire type would be a horrible typing to have.
Wow, I'm not digging any of these final evo's for the starters. They all look ridiculous, except maybe the fire type. But if it's fighting, I'll hate it, too.
Where's my Swampert?
They look great. I just hope that grass 1 has a good 2nd typing…a pure grass type would be terrible. A Grass/Dragon would be real nice..less the fact it'd get raped by Ice attacks.
The water evo's look pretty kool, if they are real, especially as i was put off intially by the water starter looked like.
-
If Dialgotter had a Water/Ground typing, that'd be pretty sweet (Back to the Swapert days).
Bacondorf will either be Fire/Ground or (More than likely) Fire/Fighting.
Milotic ripoffReally Arrogant Dragon Thing's probably pure Grass or Grass/Dragon. -
Bacondorf's the only evolution I like.
Guess this will be my first fire starter since gen 3
-
Pure fire type would be a horrible typing to have.
I'd say Fire/Flying is worse. 4x weakness to Rock.
Pure Fire isn't bad. Only problem Typhlosion has is a poor movepool.
-
Same with Fire Fightning 4x weak against Ground.
Well Typhlosion is pretty good, with Eruption :D i love using it.
But Fire/Flying has the disavantage that Stealth Rock is used a lot now in competitive battling, like I said before thats what keeps Charizard from being overused.
Anyway in other news, it being said that we may have some stats changes for old pokemons so awesome :D, i would love if they made Pidgeot usable his stats are just so bad compared to the other birds and the move pool urgh and ofc many other old pokes that need it.
-
Same with Fire Fightning 4x weak against Ground.
Er Fighting doesn't have a weakness to Ground.
You mean Fire/Rock? (ex. Magcargo sp?)
-

Uh…
@MetaMario:Er Fighting doesn't have a weakness to Ground.

What this guy said.

Still waiting for Flareon to get a better movepool. It's useless compare to Eevee's other evolutions.
-
Er Fighting doesn't have a weakness to Ground.

Nope I actually though Fightning was weak to ground dunno why, for years…Facepalms
Yeah Flareon is pretty cool but its useless, specially when Vaporeon, Jolteon and Umbreon are awesome, Espeon/Leafon/Glaceon are nothing amazing either but out of all of them yes Flareon gets the shaft, maybe with the new ability he gets from the event it might be usefull.
From Pokemon Pia document book that come out Sunday I believe.
@Psikid:
Ken Sugimori, primary illustrator: I really struggled the most with the Water-type [starter] this time.
Yusuke Ohmura, illustrator: There was talk of, "Wouldn't a sea otter be good for the Water starter?" But it was a really close decision in terms of what this sea otter would become once it evolves. In the end, we decided to have it evolve into something with a completely different appearance.
Sugimori: Of course, we want to make the starters into Pokémon that remain with the player throughout the game, so we hope to make them evolve into creatures that offer a surprise to the player. We always make an effort to throw in some twists and create third-stage evolutions that have an impact.
Ohmura: There was also talk this time about dividing the three starters into Japanese, Western, and Chinese styles of design. Tsutaaja was based on Western design, and Pokabu was rooted in a Chinese style, so I was told, "Let's make Mijumaru into a more Japanese-style design." Someone even asked, "Can't you make Mijumaru into a samurai?" [laughs]
Everyone: [laughs]
Sugimori: I worried about it for a while, and I eventually went to go see the sea otters at the aquarium. Upon seeing the sea lion show while I was there, I became aware of the sea lion's power. "Well, let's try blending a sea otter and a sea lion," I thought. I came up with the idea of making the shell on Mijumaru's stomach into a sword (katana) and using it to fight, and that's how I completed Mijumaru and its evolution."Mijumaru can still be badass then, I hope it can actually stand on two feet and be a badass samurai.
Something like this but less cute, more Floatzelish like the face on the right.
!

Mijumaru can still be badass then, I hope it can actually stand on two feet and be a badass samurai.
If this is true, Wottercorn better hope it can still be a samurai instead of being sea lion+otter+shell=Dialga/unicorn. I don't like surprises when they come in the form of "your otter will become a samur–no wait a unicorn! Psych!". Surprises pulled out of
nowherethe creator's ass are bad. -
Well that should prove that those evolutions are fakes for once and for all.
-
Nope I actually though Fightning was weak to ground dunno why, for years…Facepalms
In the first gen, aside from fossils, every rock critter in the game also had a ground subtype, (geodudes and onixes) which means in a lot of minds, their strengths and weaknesses are associated the same.
To this day I have trouble remembering that one is immune to electric and the other isn't, and which can hit flying.
If this is true, Wottercorn better hope it can still be a samurai instead of being sea lion+otter+shell=Dialga/unicorn. I don't like surprises when they come in the form of "your otter will become a samur–no wait a unicorn! Psych!". Surprises pulled out of

Why? Thats EXACTLY what he described. I've been saying for weeks from the leaked second form of Wotters that "oh, he's going with a samurai design." He has a topknot and hakama look going, with the shells as swords. And its final phase looks exactly like a sea lion with samurai armor to me. The top knot just moves forward and turns into a helmet. That just confirms it, in my eyes.
Most samurai helmets had horns. its just in a shell shape. The bumps even look like helmet plating. Even the giant whiskers are a fairly comon bit of samurai iconography.
The color shift is a little radical, but the dark blue was always in his feet, tail and ears, its no different from chikorita turning from yellow to green.
-
Well that should prove that those evolutions are fakes for once and for all.
As robby said, Wottercorn could be a sea lion with samurai armor. How Tsutaja is "western" is beyond me unless they mean something like Aztec feathered serpent "western". Bacondorf is arguable either way since I don't really see anything inherently "Chinese" or non-"Chinese" in it, though that's probably just me.
-

Western is more than just the united states. But its more an Incan snake dragon than a chinese dragon or an English dragon, to be sure.
Bacondorf is arguable either way since I don't really see anything inherently "Chinese" or non-"Chinese" in it, though that's probably just me.
The pattern of the spirals, and the trim on the gloves and boots and the overall clothes appearance in the final phase are very chinese.
-

Pure Fire isn't bad. Only problem Typhlosion has is a poor movepool.
I doubt even a good movepool would be enuff for him. Pure fire is a bad typing, period. It needs a sub-type otherwise its just no good.
-
Wottercorn, samurai armored sea lion or no, still seems like a jarring change to me. I get that surprise was the point, but still… completely discarding the otter side for sea lion comes out of nowhere, even if there's an out-of-universe/real life story behind the idea. To make a somewhat asinine comparison, if Kubo said he got inspiration for Aizen's "transcendent god rock" from having a childhood wish he made skipping stones come true, it doesn't make the haxyoku any better.
-
I doubt even a good movepool would be enuff for him. Pure fire is a bad typing, period. It needs a sub-type otherwise its just no good.
It is good, like i said Eruption Choice Scarfed Typhlosion is pretty good/effective, mine gave me some victories so I dont have much to complain about it.
Anyway Awesome

Huh, Bacondorf vs Smugleaflink, Now I like bacondorf.

Some more nice info from the game creators.
! _> Part 1: Making The Second Main Series Game on the DS
Masuda says he always wanted to make 2 titles for the DS (Being Gens 4 and 5), especially because the DS is so popular worldwide. There were very aware that having a second title on DS could mean the games would feel the same, and have done their best to avoid that with these games.
He realised ideas like "Go to a Pokemon Centre and trade" were fixed in his mind and did his best to break them down, because he's been working on the games since the start. They took this as an oppurtunity to re-evaluate rules and systems in the game. They wanted to make the games more accessible to older players to lower the number of people who were "growing out" of Pokemon. Stuff like adding Kanji to make it easier to read.
The producer of the games (Iwahara (?)), was very happy when Masuda suggest all these radical changes to the games. He says even he had the idea that each generation of Pokemon games had to come out on a different system, but because of the DS's long life and popularity worldwide he was glad for the freedom that creating on the same platform gave them. Iwahara, who Iwata calls a 'veteran' of the series thought "Can it be changed that much? Can we really pull it off" when Masuda told him of the changes that he wanted.
Sugimori thought Masuda's suggestions were a bit crazy. When he was told all the Pokemon would be new he said "Gimme a break! Couldn't we lower the number a bit?" but Masuda refused to budge. Iwata comments that Masuda is stubborn, and Masuda agrees.
Part 2: The Brand New World of Pokemon
Sugimori said he was resistant to Masuda's ideas, but also says that he knew Masuda was not mistaken. There were around 200 pages of planning sheets for new features, explaining exactly what crossing a bridge would mean, or how we'd show the player going into someone else's game world. They didn't do it with DP this way, in fact this is the first time they have. This was to do with all the new challenges they were facing with these games. Once again, they confirm that they used New York as a motif. This was primarily to fulfill the goal of giving these games a new feel, and also so he could have a concert there (like they do in Japan in the region where the games are based off, using music from the relevant games. Apparently), but it might be impossible this time. After deciding this they began deciding where to place towns etc. In doing so they visited the Museum of Modern Art.While he was sitting in the garden of the Museum, he came up with the idea of using a hexagon. Also, because he’s heard about children not being able to complete the game he decided to try and make the direction you travel in more linear. He says there's people who have the idea that the real fun of Pokemon doesn't start until after the main story has been completed. Then he talks about the hexagonal shape of the region, and the peirs and sky scrapers in Hiun.
The name Isshu comes from "isshurui" which means "one type/kind/species" according to Masuda. He says unconnected races, Pokemon and people come together to form "many types/kinds/species" in the region. They want to avoid designs that are impossible, or ones they can't explain how they work. 17 people designed Pokemon this Generation. All the Graphic Designers were involved as well. It's like that every time. Even if it's only one idea, every comes up with one, or draws one.
Less than 10 people were involved in total for R/B's designs. Sugimori still draws all the final, official designs. He also does the drawings from various angles that are given to the sprite artists (the ones for the starters can be seen in popup). They talk about this "filtering" all the people's designs and finally making them "pokemon-like" and maintaining the one image.
Sugimori acknowledges this is the first time since red and green that they've only used new Pokemon in game. He says he had to make sure that all of the new Pokemon had their own ecological system to them. Iwata mentions that it's not just thinking up new Pokemon, but also thinking of the balance. Sugimori says that they go to Aquariums and Zoos to make sure the Pokemon have a strong base in reality, but also consider how much they can surprise us and look for the line that can't be crossed over.
Masuda says that his imput tend to be in the later half of development, when they line up all he images of the new Pokemon on the wall of the conference room and he looks at them and goes "Hmm, this sectiion has too much of this color." or "Was this Pokemon alright being this color, again? Could we change it?" But other than that he really leaves the designing up to Sugimori and doesn't butt in much.
Part 3: Connecting Online
Masuda talks about how he'd hoped the DS game card could talk directly to the PC, but of course that's impossible, so they stuck with Wi-Fi. Setting up the dream world took a long time. They originall played to have Mii-like avatars, but then realised that was silly because you looked different from your in-game self. So they decided to have only Pokemon appearing in the dream world. It was around that time they noticed that Sugimori's team had already designed Munna and decided to use it as the mascot. They wanted to make a global community where people communicated, not just to get berries and items. In all it took 2 years to get right. They originally had no plans to include infra-red, especially because when they tested it it cut the battery life in half. So, you connect via Infra red but then switch over to wireless. You can trade anywhere anytime, even from boxes.
The live caster was initially thought up as a way to talk to Professor Araragi during the game.
Part 4: The Unchanging Pokemon-ness
They talk about all the parts of Pokemon that are unchaning. And talk about the thoughts behind TMs being infinitely usable and why they thought players would like it, rather than having them not use them for fear of wasting them and making them like collectibles.Part 5: New World, New Meetings
Masuda thinks that the plot and characters are different to those of previous games and think people will be surprised by it. He wants people to experience it without being spoiled, to the point that none of them will even give their opinions or reactions to the climax.Sugimori and Iwata talk about the many people who's only new pokemon is the starter each game, relying on the old ones to fill out their team, and how it's refreshing that in this game you're forced to have to learn about and try out new ones. He wants you to feel like you did with Red and Green, discovering news ones and hopefully finding a few new favourites. Iwahara wants there to be a feeling of accomplishment once you finish the games. He says that he's played the games three times, each with a different starter, and says he thinks he's only done about 1/5 of all the stuff there is to do, not including the Dream World, which he hasn't touched yet._

I doubt even a good movepool would be enuff for him. Pure fire is a bad typing, period. It needs a sub-type otherwise its just no good.
Not really. Adding a sub-type is a dangerous thing for Fire-types as the wrong one can add more weaknesses. And with the way battles shift within each generation, something either becomes stronger, weaker or massively overused.
Stealth Rock is something that's become a major problem for Fire, Flying, Ice and Bug. That's four types it can deal a hefty bit of damage to right there.
A Fire/Fighting combo makes it weak to Water, Ground, Flying and Psychic. A Fire/Flying combo makes it weak to Water and Electric, while receiving 4x damage from Rock-types. Fire/Ground takes 4x damage from Water and double from Ground-types. Fire/Rock takes 4x damage from Water AND Ground, while taking double from Rock and Fighting. Fire/Steel makes it weak to Water and Fighting, while receiving 4x damage from Ground.
That's just from the existing combos. What's left are Normal, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Poison, Psychic, Bug, Ghost, Dragon and Dark. If anything, Dragon would likely be the only way a Fire-type really hard to deal with. Ice would be neutralized cause of the Fire-typing, leaving it with a weakness of Dragon. Then you have Water being neutralized because of the Dragon-typing. So the only things it'd have to worry about are Rock, Ground and Dragon-types, while having resistances against Fire, Grass, Bug, Steel and Electric.
Would be hella insane.
-
Probably a Fire/Dragon would get an stupid ability that forcefully makes it 4x weak vs ice, just for tradition.
-
Some more nice info from the game creators.
Ooooo. TM's are now re-usable. I love it. No more Infinite TM' cheats via cheat devices.
Also, only brand new pokemon./..no access to the old ones. Thats pretty kool i guess. I could use the challenge. Although i'll miss not having my good old trustworthy ever the reliable staple Gyarados on my team. I'm very excited. I like the pokemon i've seen so far….hopefully the rest will be pretty awesome as well.
-

You realise Reshiram is a Fire/Dragon type right?
Tsukento
Not really. Adding a sub-type is a dangerous thing for Fire-types as the wrong one can add more weaknesses. And with the way battles shift within each generation, something either becomes stronger, weaker or massively overused.

Its not the number of weaknesses that make or break a pokemon./ Just look at Celebi or Tyranitar..both of them have like 5/6 weaknesses, yet they are absolute monsters. Infernape is a beast as well…despite his mediocre defences..assumin u can set up with him...
Pure fire types have gotten screwed over because of crappy movepools and not very good stats. Flareon is good...but its lack of speed and Fire fang as its only viable physical fire type attack did it no favours at all.
Entei got screwed badly because of his movepool, which did improve slightly thanks to the recent movie and those special versions tat came out.

I'm not watching the next Pokemon anime this time Brock isn't in it anymore :( at least thats what I heard

He still could be. He disappeared after the Johto League but then returned. I'd expect him to return in the future.
-
He isnt, hes going to become a Doctor, hes confirmed has not coming back.
-
Could be back someday. We just saw him kinda….wander off at the end of last episode so XD
-
Yes but he said he was going to study to be a Doctor so, I can see him maybe come back as a doctor when Ash comes back if he has some kind of old region arc but not in this one.
-
cripes. According to Serebii there are 12 Legendaries in the game. Excluding that ugly thing that is no 0. too
-
Sexy. New Information has started to come out. I love the new legendary types.
Finally..A Ice-Dragon type. Awesome
For the 1st time in p[okemon history, we get a PURE flying type pokemon. I'm guessin the Ice-Dragon is the 3rd of the 3 legendary drgons.Myabe they should go with another tping for a 6th gen game instead of dragons.
-
cripes. According to Serebii there are 12 Legendaries in the game. Excluding that ugly thing that is no 0. too
Yes 13, i asked him in the forum he says Victini comes after Arceus, I LOVE VICTINI such a cute/cool little thing, its like a mini flamethrower.
Once again so many legendaries :S seems like they want to make the ubers tier more used and people actually have enough pokes to have competitive battles with Legendaries.
-
SO we get another Electric/Flying type legendary. Looks like Zapdos has some competition for new who's the best flying birdy. I love the introduction of the fighting type legendaries…altjhough i really hate event pokemon since i can never get them. :(
-
fighting is a great offensive type, and so is rock so that looks promising also anybody see this:
(i dont know how to directly embed but the point is: you can now trade outside the pokemon center and more excitingly, you can trade things directly from boxes!!) -
Yeah we knew it for some time but the video was posted yesterday and confirmed it but corocoro gave that info like 2 months ago already :P.
Lightning Ace its easy to get events now with Wifi, I was never able to get them before this generation either but now i have everything.
-
I'm suprised that one legendary is Bug/Steel
-
I'm suprised that one legendary is Bug/Steel
I think we were finally due a bug legendary type. Its good. A pity it'll get raped by fire…but hopefully it'll be good enuff regardless. Bugs get no love at all.
-
Also, according to Melkor with Pokexporto, The Normal/Psychic has an alternate form with Normal/Fighting.
