It was planned that way. The author of Fullmetal knew she wanted to end the series on chapter 108 for awhile so they knew when it was going to end.
I'm assuming Arakawa told them the ending beforehand or before those episodes needed to be done. Either that or those last couple episodes weren't made until the chapters came out which wouldn't be impossible to do.

I thought the anime was great. Excluding the last 2-3 episodes~
The alternative ending as a whole wasn't that great but I could live with that, if they only hadn't make the very last episodes (especially the last) that bad.
I watched through episode 37 [the last cannon episode of the anime], and then switched to chapter 38 [where the manga continues from it]. That's what I tell most people to do as well. Filler endings for the lose :P
i think they should make Ouran Brotherhood first, then soul eater brotherhood, then the brotherhood of mutants

there was so much schmaltz in the ending battle that my Jewish grandmother skimmed it off and made a soup from it.

Anyway, the Soul Eater Anime was incredibly cheesy, though it was kinda cool seeing Shibusen become a giant mecha. But seriously?
! Asura being defeated by a punch? By Maka, who is far weaker than Kid or BlackStar, no less? Lame.

I actully liked the ending, very Soul Eater not to mention simple and effective. Not every final battle needs to be all flash and explosions to be satisfying. Still they they wanna remake the series. I wouldn't mind either.

For a show that was flashy and explosive, I'd rather have a flashy and explosive finale. I didn’t mind the courage punch that much; I was rather annoyed by many things coming together:
! - Kishin turning from a unique “I’m afraid of everything so Ill destroy everything” villain to a cliché “Lol I’m invincible so Ill stand around and play with you lol” type of villain

Watching the anime is a decent start, but read the manga once the story splits.
read the manga, then watch the anime. Might be the best option.
If your'e not into reading manga, watching the anime alone is fine as well. Guess the ending would suck less then~

The Anime is actually very good, the Cannon parts at least, I have never seen beyond them I just continued the story by reading the Manga were it left off…I think it goes off canon in the mid 30's

! Black*star vs. Kidd should be interesting, good thing Griko is done now. I liked him in the beginning but he started to annoy me in the last chapters.

First, we get that coloring job and spread in the beginning (lynch me for blasphemy, but sometimes I wonder if Oda could take lessons from Ohkubo).
Then we get the Terror from the Deep again, only this time it's infecting Black*Star, so we should get something really good next chapter.
Then Girik.
I…I just have no words.:wub:
It's like...do you know how I said last chapter how his petering out was a slow song? This chapter was his swan song.
I don't know how to describe it. It's like the spirit of murder and awesomeness finally shed its skin and showed us how epic it could be.
Even that imp was terrified.
Girik's personality really did seem 'sharp' in the end.
Speaking of the end, what was really funny that, even more than the color spread, was the two page spread of when his soul finally gave out (that was the only part of the chapter that slightly bothered me, but if stuff like that plays later on in the series, then it should look good in retrospect. If not, I could always say that even souls can't hold Girik's awesomeness).
I mean, combine the fact that Girik is braindead, he's smiling, it's the chapter of sloth, everything looks extra white (if that's possible) and we've got all that comfortable looking furniture as an eerie contrast to how mindfucked he was moments earlier...
What we've got is a two page spread that says, "Game Over," or "Th-th-That's All Folks," or even just simply "The Fucking End."
Like it leaves no room for doubt that we will not be seeing Girik as a functional being in this series again.
I imagine that there's flaws that I'm missing, or that I'm making too big a deal of this chapter, but for now, it was just so AWESOME!
It's stuff like this why I read Soul Eater.

i liked how he died I thought it was better than them just overcoming another extremely tough enemy, a weird sort of twist, killed by his own blood lust, i thought it was going to be one of those moments where she finds inner strength and overcomes what's in front of her
! So Giriko is finally dead? Good riddance,his death was satisfying to. Quite a way to go.

Besides that we didn't really have much from this chapter besides a promising fight between Kid and Star. A promising fight that is basically just starting. Besides kid and black stars fight this chapter was boring, an the way giriko was defeated as logical as it was IMO was stupid. An i'm glad giriko is now dead never liked his character.
Good. He/she died because he/she was too pissed. I wished more villains died like this.
Chapters like this makes me understand why I love reading Soul Eater so much and never get tired of it. This chapter was brilliant, as stupid as it may seem Giriko's demise for some people, it was convenient and made perfect sense, as the concept of the insanity was established long ago. But it was not just that. If this was Kubo, Maka would have pulled a power-up outa her ass and defeated Giriko in the most ridiculous way possible, but fortunately, this sudden development with the villian killed by his own bloodlust makes clear either Maka and Soul still have a loooooooooooong way to go before becoming a true meister and a true weapon. Don't you agree?
