So wait, all the gods are old or something now and have children? Except Ammy?
Ehm… Chibiteratsu says "wof wof". You ARE most likely controling amateratsu's decendant.

I'm not surprised. The pig always had the little piglets.
And isn't Ammy the mother of all the other gods anyway.
Hoo, boy. After I had read this thread, I decided to buy Okami for Wii. Got it cheap from a local store and it came the next day the order was made. Played it for a few days now and I must say it's the best Wii-game I've played. Love the music, love the plot, love Issun, everything.
The camera is a bit stupid and the wii-remote is a bit hard to use every once in a while, but overall it isn't as bad as it could be. Oh and I hate Waka. The guy's an annoyance. Gives me creeps every time I hear that flute starts playing.
Awww, I like Waka. He's such a dork.
Have you made it to the Imperial City yet? That's one of my favorite areas.

The ominous mix of french and english(/japanese) he speaks is weird enough to make me get a bit annoyed, although I did find him quite interesting when he appeared the first time. The feeling died off very swiftly when he killed me with ease right after that.
And no, I'm not there yet. I'm at the Pass where you fight Waka for the second time (the Taka pass or something?). I haven't played it very much because I've got three little sisters chanting "Can I play, can I play, it's my turn, give it to us" all the time and as I tend to be rather fair towards them, I haven't played as much as they have.
Ah, then you're about to get into the Sparrow Inn, also one of my favorite areas (just cause it's cute).
As for Waka, just use the slash move to knock his knives back at him when he throws them at you.
First week numbers in japan are 84k.
Bodes well for the future of the series, that's 20k more the original did the first time round on the ps2.
I kinda feel that the franchise is in the balance here.
Well, that's good.
Now if only the English release were closer than… ~~whatever I have written on my user status.~~March 29, 2011. December would be awesome. But no, late March so it can compete with Pokemon. (Which doesn't have an announced date yet, but its bound to be within 2 weeks of that in one direction or another.)
It's also going to compete with the 3DS and its launch software unless Capcom move it.
You had to ruin the mystery Robby. Just had to ruin the mystery…
Eh?
I hope they at least hype this one. Like they did with Dragon Quest 9. While I'm not a fan of casual gamers. This game needs more love than it does get.
Not everyone is gonna be able to get a 3DS when it first comes out so~
Wait… Chibiteratsu is male?
Who impregnated Amy?
Okami. The best game ever, hands down.
Awesome characters, AMAZING music, excellent gameplay…Issun is an adorable little pervert, and Waka..Waka is pure smexiness. As far as Okamiden goes...I honestly can't wait. It probabbly won't be as amazing as the original, but i'm grateful. The explanation of Chibi's birth should be interesting..
Interesting article. What caught my eye was the producer saying the original okami never realized its true potential due to larger things going on at the time. As was mentioned before, the game is coming out in the US close to the new pokemon and 3ds. Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself.
Capcom seem pretty suicidal with its western release date, really hoping they bring it forward by a couple of months, otherwise I can't see how we're not going to have the same situation again.
Maybe they're counting on the diffenrence between those two games. It seems to me that Capcom doesn't think Pokémon is competing with Okamiden, which is, of course, a big mistake. They of anybody should know that the casual gamers won't buy several different games at the same time. As great as Okami is, I know I'm spending my money on B&W rather than on Okamiden.
I sure hope Capcom knows what they're doing. :wassat:
different console I know. But isn't March also when the new Zelda is supposed to be out too? Two games in one month isn't so bad. But if we add that and the 3DS then it's gonna be annoying.
However I will buy it for the sake of making sure it gets bought and not become hard to find.
Maybe they know something about Pokemon's release date that we don't? Mid march is just an assumption based on that its been March/April-ish for everything for some time, but… pokemon is the 1,000 lb gorilla you don't go against, its hard to believe they haven't factored that. Movies know not to release blockbusters against other blockbusters.
Be truly terrible if it hits the same release day. It'll be bad enough being within 2 weeks of it in either direction.
from the preodorder dates at the store (which are subject to change… poor gran turismo fans), Pokemon black and white seem to be currently slated to drop in the US on the 4th of april.
And Okami March 29. Damn, a WEEK apart? That ain't cool. I love both franchises and look forward to them both, and even I'll be hard pressed to put down cash on both that close together. Or playtime, for that matter.
Reeeeally hope they push it up a month or something.
Also because then I would get to play it sooner.
What's unfortunate is that's just how it is. Publishers are literally afraid of certain games. Look how many games last year got pushed ahead because they were afraid of God of War 3 (although commercially, it didn't do nearly as well as predicted). And now this year it's the same. Sony is literally AFRAID of Call of Duty: Black Ops. They've pushed both of their mega holiday titles (little big planet 2 and gran turismo 5) to next year. It seems they'd rather lose out on holiday shoppers than try and compete with activision's mammoth. I'm surprised microsoft has the balls to try and release the Kinect in even the same MONTH as COD.
totally love tis game.. replaying it on the ps2 right now!
anyone tried the ds sequel yet?
No, It's not out in english anywhere yet.
capcom are waiting for nintendo to release the 3ds, zelda 64 & pokemon black & white so they can be assured it will sink again.
well.. i noe its not out yet.. just wondering if anyone hardcore enough to get the jap verison which is out..
Capcom has announced the official release date and box art for Okamiden.
March 15 now, 2 weeks earlier. Are they coming to their senses and running away from the pokemon release? (Which would now be 3 weeks later, almost a month.) Good for them.
I kind of liked the simple white box with logo for the box art they had, it had some elegance to it, but I absolutely understand the change. I also liked the Japanese box art better…
OH WELL.
But… two weeks earlier! That's great.
There's also apparently a preorer bonus of a paintbrush stylus and a screen cleaner, which the japanese version had.
I don't want to sound like a broken record, but anywhere in the same month as Zelda OOT, Pilotwings, Pokemon and the 3DS means this is going out to die.
Will still buy it on release, it's just sad that this will likely be the last okami game.
Yeah…at least its not AS close as it was before.
And I'll actually have time to play it now.
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/03/free-chibi-keychain-with-okamiden-pre-order-from-capcom-store/
Free awesomeness if you pre-order the game!
10 cm plush keychain thing is indeed awesome, and I'm a button click away fro pre-ordering it from Capcom… but then they get ya with 5.70 for shipping and 2.90 in tax, brings the total to 38.59, $9 more than the actual 29.99 price.
If I got it from Amazon, it'd be straight 29.99, free shipping. If I preordered it at gamestop, I'd get a stupid paintbrush stylus as a pre-order bonus (tho it'd probably come out to about the same price) ... but also could guaranteed pick it up the day of release instead of counting on shipping.
So. Is the "free" bonus plush keychain thing worth the extra 9 bucks?
Tho given that Amazon has mysteriously stopped offering it for pre-order… and I clicked the submit button... the answer is yes.
The time draw near friends, very near.
I wish I could get that plush. Most places here deny the existance of the game despite it being out a week on Friday (although most times you ask about the DS it's either Pokemon or 3DS stuff)
I've got the import version of this. It looks great for a DS game and they did a decent job of recreating all the crazy filters and stylistic touches Okami is known for. However, BE WARNED that this is almost more of a port than a sequel. The dungeons are different but everything else (world map, towns, story flow) is basically identical to the original game. I don't think it invalidates the game because it's still fun and I love Okami, but yeah…it's basically just Okami on a DS.

I was worried about that, that was the impression I was getting, since I saw there was a ton of overlap with old locations and characters. I'd hoped it would just start in the familiar places and then branch off into its own thing a ways in.
OH WELL, getting it in two weeks anyway.
At least the dungeons are different.
@Capcom:
Dear Robby Bevard,
Thank you for preordering Okamiden!
Little Chibiterasu has been a very popular pup. Unfortunately we are facing a delay from the factory of a portion of the Chibiterasu plush key chains. They are shipping now but the delay will hold up some Okamiden orders. More than half of all preorders will ship by March 15th with Chibiterasu and we anticipate shipping more a few days later and the following week for the balance of all preorders. If you do not receive a shipping confirmation by the end of day on March 15th, it is likely your order will be delayed until more plush key chains are delivered.
If you are unconcerned about the delay do nothing; your game and Chibiterasu will ship together as soon as possible. If you do not receive a shipping confirmation by the end of day on March 15th, and prefer not to wait for your game to arrive with Chibiterasu, please remove him from your order and we will ship your game immediately. We will ensure that all those who remove Chibiterasu from their order will receive him in a separate delivery.
Thank you for supporting this great game and please let us apologize for the factory delay.

Apparently bonus plushies are a bigger incentive than they had counted on.
Oh well, gives me a little more time for Pokemon, I suppose.
EDIT: I have 7 of the 17 posts on this page since October. Guess I'm anticipating this juuuust a bit.
Satsuki's got Dragon Age 2, I've got Okami 2.
I been so excited for this. Although I'm kinda unsure what to do. I already have Radiant Historia and Dragon Quest VI opened but barely played. And with this Sandwiched between Pokemon and the 3DS doesn't help.
I think I'm just gonna have to pick it up and then leave it till when I wanna play it.
If WE got pre-order bonuses I woulda pre-ordered it tho. But once again the UK is screwed out of almost everything remotely good in extras (or in some cases games) i

Apparently a lot of stores aren't going to stock the game for some reason, or will be limited stock.
Okami doesn't seem have much luck does it?

no kidding. Was supposed to be out friday but I noticed Amazon has it next week now.
Reminds me of Unlimited Cruise where it became online only.
I'm sure Game will use the shelf space to advertise generic FPS number 9999
I recently finished Okami for the first time, and i just can't wait for Okamiden. Granted, i don't have a DS, but i'm getting a 3DS soon after it releases.

Well, releasing it a week after Pokemon, and the same week as the 3DS, and a Zelda game right next to it… not exactly the best time for it. Christmas woulda been better... or in another month or two.
Right now? Terrible launch date.
well here it's the week before the 3DS. Which is still pretty bad. Like I said. Being trapped between Pokemon and the 3DS is terrible. Add to that the non-existance marketing.
uhhg. just looked up the price for a new 3DS. this game can be played for the other DS's, right?
It's a DS game so yup =3
Seems this game is already out.. Thought it be out next week.
I feel bad that I lost interest in the game. Atleast enough to warrant me purchasing it at launch date. I agree. This was a really bad launch date.
Other than that, I wasn't quite impressed with the gameplay from the previews. It looked kinda annoying that the touch screen and game screen would switch when performing brush strokes. There seemed to be a slight lag too :/
Oh well, I'll pick this up with Radiant Historia in a couple of months.

I played it briefly at Comicon… that was a major concern I had with it too, but it was alleviated with just a few moments of actual gameplay. Thats actually a FIX from the original game. In the original, you'd have to hold the L or R button while painting to freeze time. Now, you just tap it and it freezes for 20 seconds. The transition from top screen to bottom gives you a chance to pull out the stylus and switch out between holding it actioney and using stylus mode. (And you don't ALWAYS want to use the painbrush in EVERY battle.)
It actually works really well, and having played hte original game a TON, I instantly felt it was actually an mprovement. And its much better than doing what some DS games do where the stylus controls everything, character movement and battle actions alike, and you end up guiding a character off a cliff when you meant to do something else.
And you can unfreeze it at will, so the screen isn't default stuck there for 20 seconds.
Really looking forward to it showing up in my mailbox any time now.
EB Games at the mall only got 2 copies. >_> tried HMV and a department store there, but seen nothing. Gonna hit up Superstore and another EB games tomorrow. Amazon.CA was sold out too.
Another brilliant marketing plan from Capcom! Release in Pokemon week…in minuscule numbers.
