After first hearing the terms ''Water 7'', and ''CP9'', I thought Water 7 was some kind of steampunk/pseudo-scifi iron fortress, and that CP9 were cyborgs thanks to the number designation. And I briefly thought that Kalifa was Iceberg for some reason, probably thnaks to some poor captioning.

Oh! I remember a hilarious thing a couple people thought back during the CP9 arc, who watched the anime but didn't read the manga! They saw Luffy Gear 2 in OP6 and the motion of his hands was blurred enough that they thought Luffy was shooting fireballs from his palms, instead of just moving his arms across long distances at rapid speeds XD

The one wrong thing I said that takes the cake was, before W7 became the CP9 arc, I thought that Lucci would be a fantastic addition to the crew. Oh, how wrong I was.

AWB and the fun piece gang were destroying us with thier horrible anime-only fan blabbering but weren't meaning to. They got cranky when people pointed out their lack of cognitive thinking.

Many years ago I was raised as a troll by legendary posters on a flame-duel forum. 99.9% of the posters here would be burnt alive there. They were experts at getting rises out of people and making them reveal thier private details. I was probably like 13 (never told anyone) or so fighting big scary 30 year olds

Yeah, Oda pretty much jumped the shark with shichibukai after introducing Hancock. I had this feeling all the hype (fan created) wouldn't be doable and Oda went a completely different direction and fell pretty short character wise.

Well, I respectfully disagree. Even from the Arlong arc it was quite clear that from the beginning, Oda intended Jinbei to be the kind of character he is now. It was kind of obvious especially since Oda likes symbolic names and the clue was in the meaning of the name: Jinbei (whale-shark).
Big, imposing, potentially powerful, but at the same time fairly peaceful unless threatened. If you know anything of marine biology, this description actually fits real whale sharks to a T. Contrast sawtooth sharks (Arlong) which is your more conventional I-eat-other-fish kind of shark. Whale sharks, despite their size, mostly feed on plankton and are known to be gentle giants and some even indulge in play with humans.
So I was pleasantly surprised when Oda unveiled Jinbei. Oda really is the king of little details and knows how to do his research.

Maybe you're assuming too much. Jinbei is just a boring lame character to me. Just an old guy around to help. I'm not saying he shouldn't be an ally but compared to Croc, Kuma, Doflamingo, and even Mihawk I expected more in the personality department. Would've been nice if Jinbei was a lil Garpish.
The way I saw it after Croc we got funny looking Moria and his extremely lazy plan to get revenge and be PK. He was secretly plotting against the WG like Croc but he was somewhat of a letdown. He had a cool DF so that saved him a bit. Some Doflamingo here and there. Then Kuma eased my worries with the Dragon connection. Then Hancock, a pretty disposable character that I thought had more to her but nope just gags, spoiled, all to cover up a past of a slave, and a love interest in Luffy. I thought Oda could do better. Then Jinbei who isn't as annoying but is so bland. Has a cool look though.
The details although I wasn't aware of all of them don't really change much. Jinbei could have all those qualities and be cool but he isn't.

Before I started reading, I saw the usopp's 5-ton hammer clip, but it ended before mr. 4 got up again, and so I thought that it was real, and that usopp was this crazy badass "lord of destruction" who "couldn't even count the number of ships he's sunk."

only cool thing from him was his water action, which should be standart for a fishman like him^^
he was hyped for so long and in the end we got rly just a "normal" chara from oda..nothing special as hoped from every OP-fan.

Compared to Arlong i rly wish we would have more Arlong action^^all we have to expect of jinbei in the future is that he will moan all the time about how the fishman are treated and that he will be an ally of luffy who follows him like a dog till FI.

I just knew after 3 chaps of her I didn't like her character at all. I tried to ignore for the most part but then the Hancock for nakama theories started.
I don't know what else Oda could've done with a template of possibly the most beautiful woman/pirate in the world and empress of an amazon nation but I feel he could've done something better than what he did.
