@Verilance
That character is on Robin's second coverstory-pic.
Chapter 586 "A Fetid Town" Discussion

Ha ha, the first time I skimmed through the chapter I saw that brats laugh I thought, WOAH ? chibi doflamingo?
Had to read it again to realise the brat was a girl {insert silly theory about Ivankov here}
I think the revolutionary idea's the best going around at the moment … although I hope Sabo ends up a pirate.
-
I was reading volume 45 after buying it yesterday and thought i saw something interesting
probably not but I will show it anyway
!
ha the life of a computer illiterate … chapter 440 page 9
it seems to me that the guy sitting behind dragon with a feather in his cap also has googles on them hard to see here but in the volume it was clearer
is he Sabo?
Sabo or not, that feather makes him look like the same guy in that 2nd installment of Robin's cover story. If it is him, that means he works directly with Dragon, and Dragon may be where Robin is now. Interesting.
ETA sorry DaWebci. I see you saw it first.
-
That Dragon is outstanding father. With all his hate to the kingdom he takes a complete stranger noble kid(we all see the reasons behind it) while his own son lives with bandits and now will roast in fire. And babe is perfectly fine with it.
You just cannot blame him. -

You just cannot blame him.I hope you're acting obtuse for effect's sake. Seriously, you must know that:
1. We don't know that Dragon knows that Ace and Luffy are in there, or even that they were left with Dadan for that matter
2. We don't know that Dragon takes Sabo with him
3. We can't know what his reaction would be unless it happened and we saw it, but given the scenes we have seen of him thinking about Luffy, I'm guessing he wouldn't be "perfectly fine with it."You know that, right?
Speaking of odd family decisions, I've been thinking about that scene of Grap showing up in the montage of "fun times" thay showed of the three boys hanging together, where he says "Hi" all happily, and then beats the crap out of them. Maybe that was his way of "playing" with them? They all fought each other every day–maybe that's just the way he thought they could interact? I can't find the right words to describe what I mean here, but many father figures wrestle and play fight with their kids. I can see the Monkey family taking it too far. Its the way they approach everything, after all. He obviously genuinely cares for the boys, even if he shows it in odd ways...

@Sea:
Ask Obama.
Wait… did you tell your mom you were watching porn?
Well, how about "masturbation" instead of "porn"?
No, no, don't look at me like that! What do you mean with that stare?Aivotazen.
Same here.
Apparently "I miss Nami" is one of the first posts of mine in this forum. I want to see her hit Luffy.I have a feeling that she is gonna come back right after this FB. This is what I would do if Oda wants to surprise us.
It is impossible that Luffy will feel better after this FB. I cannot see Jinbei cheering him up. He is just too manly or fishy.
I do not think Hancock can do it. She is too shy and she does not him well enough.
I do not think Law can do it. Otherwise, we will have tons of Yaoi pairing (genderswap included). Despite saving him, they do not really know each other.
It will be very cool if Nami comes with the straw hat and put it back on Luffy's head. It will be a great tribute to the epic walk to arlong park scene. Nami will ask him to continue on living to accomplish his dreams as a new promise.
How does she get there ? Ivankov must have met Sanji and told him where Luffy was.

That would be cool, but…
How would Nami get there even if Sanji meets Ivancov?
Despite the fact than many have speculated that Sanji meets Ivacov and/or Robin gets with the revolutionary army, and they somehow get to Luffy through those folks (which makes some sort of sense for Sanji, 'cause we know that Ivancov at least knows where Luffy is, and makes sense for Robin if the revolutionaries hear from Ivancov where Luffy is) noone ever explains how Sanji or Robin figure out both where the rest of the crew are or how they rescue/retrieve them before getting to Luffy. Even if they get to SA, Rayleigh doesn't, as far as we know, know where Luffy is either.
Explain that part and you'll have yourself a theory.
Because I agree that Luffy needs his friends around him right now--or least that's what I'd like for him. Achetypical heroes don't always show their weak/low moments to their mates, but this show is all about friendship and bonds that are stronger than familial bonds.

They have the vivre card. They meet up at the Sabondy island. Luffy is not there. Sanji tells the crew where he is and they go. Nami decides to go there.
However, I have found a flaw in my theory. How would they get past the Calm Belt that protects the island ?
I have found another logical answer. Franky must have found items and tools at Vegapunks island that could allowed such a possibility.
Vegapunk was the man who discovered ways to pass the calm belt. I am persuaded Franky can do that. He can built bridges in a matter of seconds !
-
I remember my original thoughts for how they would meet up would be en mass, wit hthe others making their way to Sabaody through various means, and Rayleigh fills them in on what's been happening and takes them all on the Sunny to Amazon Lily, where Luffy was, since that's what Kuma told him to do. Then they'd all have the obligatory massive party, bid their fond farewells, and it's back to the adventure.
Of course, now the situation is much more complicated, what with the presence of Law's crew, Jimbei, and Luffy's severe emotional scarring. I can't really say what Luffy is going to do after he's finished with his flashbacking. The prospect of not meeting his crew all at the same time could make for some nice character interaction though; see something a bit different from the usual group dynamic.

Yah, if they all get to SA. But some of them, Nami included, but Zoro and Usopp seemingly as well, have no way to get there that we know about at this time. Chopper may be able to talk to the birds and get a ride, I suppose (though they weren't friendly, I could see some of them getting hurt during the fighting, and needing a doctor–instant good will and favor to be repaid). Brooke could theoretically get a boat from the island people he's with, as could Franky--hell he's on an island full of machines of all types. If they don't have some sort of transportation, that would be odd. And of course they must have a solution for the calm belt problem--you are right. But Nami? Zoro? Usopp? Any ideas?

Ah I forgot about Kuma whispering sweet nothings into Rayleigh's ear. Its possible that's what he whispered… Hmm.
Doesn't answer how some of them get to SA still, though.
But Law's crew should be shoving off soon, shouldn't they? What reason do they have to stay once Luffy is medically stabilized?
-
@I:
But Law's crew should be shoving off soon, shouldn't they? What reason do they have to stay once Luffy is medically stabilized?
True. I imagine they'll stick around for a little exposition over the course of another two or three chapters after the flashback ends and then ship out. Unless something unexpected happens to keep them on the island for a little longer.
-
@I:

First off, nOOb is new. Hullo!
This statement I agree with, secondly. I think that at least ONE of them is going to show up soon, to help Luffy. I am leaning toward Sanji or Robin, considering who they are with right now, but someone may surprise us.
But! I actually have a feeling that there will be no "trickling in" here. I think all the Strawhats are going to show up at once, each with their own story of how they returned, and I think it's going to be on SA, because otherwise what was the point of the Vivre Card (thinking about this from an author's standpoint)? I mean, you don't normally introduce important elements like that when they don't have a point; why waste the space and time?
My theory is that Sanji is posing as an okama to convince them to help him to get back to SA, that Robin is going to get the Revolutionaries to help her, that Franky is going to build a miniship for himself, that Brook is going to get the devil worshipper people to build him a ship, and that Chopper is going to tame one of those giant birds. I have no clue how the others get back, but Oda will find a way! ^^
momentarily distracted by the image of Chopper fighting with, taming, and gallently riding the giant bird Ooooo, that's fun! XD
Also, someone mentioned that Stelly (that's his name, right? Ah, who cares…) dying won't happen because he's young. While I don't believe Stelly will die (and I have this awful feeling that Sabo WILL, though I prefer the theory that he's going to become a revolutionary), I don't think his age would stop Oda. Kuina wasn't that much older... well, I guess she was, what, 10 or 11-ish? Okay, maybe his age WOULD stop Oda, thinking it over... either way, I think he's safe.

I do not think Luffy is gonna feel better after this FB. Before, Nami was seperated, she said the exact same words during the arlong park scene "Luffy, help me". I wonder if it is gonna lead to another scene between the two of them.
I am pretty sure Oda knows his fans are dying to see their return. We have waited long ENOUGH. If there is a moment they have to come back it is NOW. Their captain is in pain and only them can help him going back to his former self.
@Isurrivedthebustercall. (LOL that reminds me of my first time riding Space Mountain in Disneyland Paris.)
Zoro has Perona as guide. As long as someone with a great sense of direction, Zoro should come back easy. However, it seems that he has landed on Mihawks castle and he must be fighting people who have enough guts to challenge the greatest swordman. That would be a problem. Of course he will come back.
Nami must come back somehow. They cannot navigate the ship without her. She is essential to the storyline They must have a way to come in the blue sea as well.
Usopp is the hardest case. There is the weight problem. I wonder how he is gonna lose all of it in 3 weeks. I am pretty sure he will come back.
I would love to see Nami comfort while Hancock watching helplessly. That would be priceless. The rest of the straw hats arrive and they hug Luffy and are happy. Luffy is feeling a lot better. Nami asks him about the arm brand and Luffy responds that it was the key of one of the greatest treasures and Buggy has it. Nami angrily hits him and Hancock faints. That would be awesome.
-
Oh yeah, they're definitely going to be the key to getting Luffy to snap out of his funk. All of them, except Sanji, I guess, have experienced loss (though when it comes to sheer visceral impact, only Robin, Nami, Chopper, and maybe Franky come close), so they'll be able to empathize and provide a figurative shoulder to cry on. Which is good, since I'm not sure if Jimbei's any good with this sort of thing, Law is completely indifferent, and Hancock's hopelessly out of touch.

Lol I agree. I think Nami is gonna give him the most comforting words out of all the members.
I remember Luffy said he would someday come at AL with his nakamas.
What if it was right now ? -
I dunno. In thinking about Luffy since at least Water 7, I feel like there's been a lot of talk about how he wanted to get stronger to protect his nakama. Then he lost it when they all got sent flying by Kuma–-came to grips by realizing they are strong, and would be fine. Then his very next big test, for the person who is arguable the most important to him in the OP world, and for whom he literally went through several circles of Hell (thanks Dante, lol) he "fails" to save him as well.
He has also been growing as a leader in many ways since Water 7, highlighted by the whole stupid thing with Usopp, but continued in many ways since then. Luffy needs to develop as a leader. We saw hints of his influence in the war--WB pretty much annointed him the chosen one, and we saw the reaction people had to him, plus the king's haki got people's attention. Oda tells us this is the second half, and if Luffy is going to be a King of any sort, he needs to grow into that. This may be the beginning of that growth.
I'm thinking he needs to do two things. Get stronger (emotionally and physically) and come to grips with the fact that he is sometimes powerless to help the people he cares about (he also had other moments of this with leaving Iva-chan in the prison to fight poison dude, and then with Bon-chan.) Sometimes choices and decisions that are not ideal need to be made. Harsh realization to deal with, and something perhaps only another leader whose btdt can help him with. Jinbei has bdtd. I do not see Jinbei as being incapable of helping Luffy. He's clearly very touched by Luffy's state as well as experiencing his own sense of loss over Ace's death, made a promise to Ace to help/take care of Luffy that he obviously feels deeply, and is perfectly placed to take the father figure/mentor spot for the immediate future.
Plus I think the rest of the crew (especially Nami and Robin) have always depended on Luffy's inner indominable optomism, and seeing him like this might rock them to their core, affecting the future dynamics of the crew together. Not sure how that would work for the storyline.
Much as it pains me, I think we'll be SH'less for a while yet.
-
@I:

I really don't mind that, and I don't think people really should. It's a nice break… and we know the majority of the rest of OP will be with the Straw Hats. Plus, the longer we don't see them together, the more epic the reunion will be !!
And haki is the key for Luffy's progress. Luffy will be able to at least put up a good fight against the main powers if he can realise his haki. I think it'll take a while for him to master it, like probably around mid/ end of the New World.
-

Never thought of it like that, but this is a valid point. If the others were to see Luffy this broken, I think it WOULD cause lots of problems. Tension would mount, words would get heated, and then everything would fall apart.
In that case, I think it might be that Jinbei will take care of him, he will get emotionally stronger, and then return to the crew as somewhat wiser but still mostly normal Luffy.
Either way, I really like this arc as serious growth for Luffy. He's seeing that sometimes extremely strong isn't strong enough. It's kind of a wake-up call for everybody (including us readers, who are sort of conditioned to the hero always pulling out a win in the end, no matter the strength of the opponent). It's both good and bad for him at the same time.
But I suppose that conflict builds character! ^^
And yes, I don't predict a return of the crew for awhile yet. Somewhat upsetting, but I trust in Oda.

That'll probably be the case, a continuous long-term mastering of the Haoshoku Haki. After all, Gear 2nd and Gear 3rd showed that even though Luffy has had the Gomu Gomu no Mi for 10 years, he hasn't completely mastered the fruit yet.
-
I think it's the opposite. He's pushing the limits of his rubber abilities. So much that he's shortening his lifespan.
-
His lifespan being shortened has nothing to do with him overusing his abilities. It was shortened when Ivankov injected the hormones to fight Magellans poison out of Luffy
-

Actually it was explained long before Luffy ever met Ivankov that Gear 2nd alone is "eating away" Luffy's life. So yeah, Luffy wasn't really generous to his body back than already but now with all this hormones and even worse Gear 2nd while being on this hormones the kid is pretty much fucked!
-
Oh ._. I most likely missed that
-
..i guess that this flashback..will last more 3 chapters..
-
im kinda hoping they will timeskip his skill mastering…...

Yeah, but he's fucked in a world where people can live to 140, and some live longer (Like Kureha).
-
I think the only reason gear 3nd and third are killing him is because Oda wants Luffy to die before he gets old like Gold Roger. Maybe he will start a new era ya know?
-
Luffy will probably live against all odds even tho he is supposed to have like 20 years off of his life
-
I doubt this…... I think Luffy will either fall apart ending the story (way after he's king of the pirates) or Vegapunk will save his ass.
-
that would be interesting Pacifista Luffy
-
Yeah or maybe just a stronger heart
-
Well, we know he's docked 10 years from Iva's healing hormones.
Even though Lucci's commented on Luffy chipping his life away using 2nd, I'm not aware how much of his life he's losing. But, it's obviously a good amount because he's been using it constantly since then…
Even so, I wouldn't put it past Luffy to die until he's old and wrinkled, unless he's also stricken with a disease or something....
-
Well, Luffy also mentioned that he wasn't quite used to Gear Second back in Enies Lobby, so I wouldn't be surprised if eventually he's able to use it without the extra strain. I mean, he was pretty winded after his fight with Blueno and had to eat meat to regain energy, but later on used Gear Second multiple times in Sabaody and on Amazon Lily without any trouble at all.
-

Gear Second, to my knowledge, means that Luffy is pumping up his internal organs and pushing his blood flow faster so he becomes faster and stronger
Now while his body might have become more used to this process, that is still something that will always take its toll internally…and we won't see the extent of the damage Luffy has taken until the end of the story..
And this goes with what Usopp said in Thriller Bark after beating Moria, that the more they travel and the more difficult the opponent they face, Luffy is going to have to keep pushing himself and his body to further limits and I think Oda might be foreshadowing something for the future..
-
His will of D is going to be so strong that none of that will affect him
-
Not sure if this was mentioned before, but I came across this on youtube, and it had a striking similarity to the whole concept of Gray Terminal:

the world is in reality even sicker than we see right now with the nobles^^ -
A lot of concepts in OP are based on historical fact like the slaves, a corrupted "World" Government, Class Status, and even Pirate Names..
Oda must love his history…
-
Every writer has an inspiration
-
Don't know if anyone has brought this up yet, but we very well could see a younger Kuma in this flash back.
-

You know I never thought about that, maybe the "Ivankov" at the end of the chapter is actually Kuma. Who's to know what Kuma looked or acted like before his Pacification by Vegapunk..XD
-
didn't think about that
-
having a kuma who says "babyyy" while also being called the "tyrann"…
mhh not that fitting for my taste:happy:but still it`s possible to see him..would actually rly like that(even when i think that to that time he still was just a cruel pirate)
-
I agree with Dofla
-
I wouldn't put it past Oda to drastically change a character from a soft-spoken reserved person to a flamboyant one…it would be funny as hell to see Kuma act that way
But, I agree the whole Tyrant thing and cruel pirate is contradicting to that theory..
-

Kuma. In high-heels. Who talks in gibberish.
You're fucking kidding me.
-
i doubt it's Kuma very much
