How old is that spread ?
-
The spread is from the 10th anniversary of One Piece. Post-Enies Lobby Water 7 time I think. So at the time, Brook was slated to be next. Dunno if he was foreshadowing about Hancock/Perona back then, but maybe.
Well, going back to Next Crewmate Discussion we just see Robin and Nami there, but the Panda holds 3 dresses. Panda = Chinese theme (same as Boa Hancock, but that's may not mean nothing). The strange thing is all the hearts surrounding him, just like Boa Hancock's powers. Also the sword's top (on the right) have strange format… Looks like "b h" to me.
The Panda holds two dresses and a pair of underwear, I think.
-
How old is that spread ?
August 2007. During Thriller Bark (When Ussop was fighting Perona).
The Panda holds two dresses and a pair of underwear, I think.
Probably, you're right.

@Del:
Based on what do you say that? Oda always coloured her skin in this way, you can see it, on other colour spreads.
Check some examples:http://www.rolonoazoro.com/albums/01C-Color-Spreads/394_Poker.sized.jpg
http://www.rolonoazoro.com/albums/01C-Color-Spreads/537_come_on_kaizoku_nabe.sized.jpg
http://www.rolonoazoro.com/albums/01C-Color-Spreads/516_a_casual_discovery.sized.jpgRobin's skin is still darker, if you look at her in the anime (yes I know) her skin is very dark.
Yet those pics were done by Oda and his hand is canon, so I dunno..

How about Leeroy Jenkins for new nakama?
-
The monkeys in that picture are lucky

Based on 585, Sabo…?

Based on 585, Sabo…?

Hancock would kick out all the baby otters.
Then Luffy would get pissed at her for hurting his nakama and punch her off the boat, where she would fall into the water and die.
Boom goes the dynamite.

I don't think Sabo will join, but where is that from? Because I had hoped Sabo was still out there as Luffy's other brother, but apparently not.
-
im pretty sure jimbei will be the next nakama. Ace did ask him to take care of luffy.

Could still be alive and luffy hates him or somesuch.
-
I'd prefer him to be dead and have luffy consider him a brother. IDK, I just like the idea of a third brother.
Anyway, sorry for going off topic.
-
I think Oda would of drop a hint or something in SA about Sabo before if he was still going to be alive. But this flashback has taken so many strange turns, who knows what could happen next.
-
Savo seems to be fit the position of a Navigator, or a captain, or both. I don't think he will join, though I like him.
-
Sabo isn't going to be a Straw Hat.

To them, it doesn't matter to be crewmates, it matters to be brothers.

Then again, Luffy and Ace did try to get the other to join their crew in Alabasta. It's not that they don't want to sail together, just that they don't need to to still be brothers.
Personally, I don't think Sabo will be joining just because he's got some other role to play; what I'm betting on is he'll come out of this flashback alive and we'll see what became of him in the present day (or future day, as the case may be).
-
or maybe…Sabo is already there????? You thought of that one yet?
-

Ace was fucking around, like an ordinary brother would do.
I'm sure he knew Luffy wouldn't join his crew, well, Whitebeard's crew even if he paid him with meat.
-
I think its important that whether sabo is dead or not, Luffy and Ace only acknowledged him once and I seem to remember Luffy saying that Ace was his ONLY brother. Plus it doesnt seem out of the question (in fact it would make a lot of sense if) Sabo is still alive, close to the tennryubito and will play a major role later on. It would pull the Nobles deeper into the plot.
I have a new theory for next crew mate, Hatchan, by new I mean that I recently decided that I think this, not that I am actually originating it.
-
Sabo's hat looks like Rob Lucci's hat

had just posted this in chapter discussion, but figure goes here too. how does this look? any suggestions or changes? went with typical things peopel seem to feel strawhats all have

alive (check)im pretty sure jimbei will be the next nakama. Ace did ask him to take care of luffy.
to do it in Ace's stead correct? Ace wasn't a member, so this argument doesn't have any ground. Besides I would hate to have someon on the crew acting like a bodyguard/babysitter
-
Jinbei also only has to watch Luffy until his wounds heal

Sabo:

Alive (??????)I wonder how useful he'll be on the ship?
Oh! I'm sure he'll write down their adventures! or do exactly what Nami does, without pictures! or help them write checks! When in battle, he'll fight them with a long and sharp pencil.
Oh yeah, we'll have three swordsmen on the ship.
Sabo for Nakama!
-
A pipe is not a sword.
Ace and Luffy don't use pipes in real time.

Ever seen the movie RockNRolla? Pencils are dangerous, man. I don't know why we let children use them.

He'll show people magic tricks with it.

I agree. But, a pencil? Yeah.

yea cause he woudl need to fight with a pencil
just like robin fights with archeology and luffy fights with captain and sanji fights with kitchen stuff

You know, this gets mentioned over and over on both sides of the discussion, so I might as well point something out again. The reason some of us even mention the flashback, is because of the story-telling factor. That aside for a moment, people need to consider the characters' positions more. Ace, for example, would never have joined Luffy's crew to look after him because they both made a promise with each other to chase their own adventures and live free. Ace knows, just like Luffy knows, interference from them would just piss the other off. Put simply, Luffy would get pissed if Ace tried to protect or help him too much, so Ace doesn't even try to actively do that. Yet Ace still worries. Based on the context, Ace's request for Jinbei was neither, "After I die check up on Luffy because he will probably do something stupid and get hurt", nor was it, "After I die keep tabs on Luffy in case he needs help." He wanted Jinbei to look after him, which seemed to be a genuine request for Jinbei to find Luffy and actively help him out. A silly request though, considering they were both in prison. Besides, what you want has no bearing on the story whatsoever.
Jinbei also only has to watch Luffy until his wounds heal.
[hide]@brennen.exe:
He doesn't have to join the crew because of the flashback, but the flashback can come true if he joins the crew. That's the line of thought, here.
I don't think this particular development cements him or is even a reason for him to join. I am merely pointing out that if he does not join, then this flashback will have served little purpose, and would be a poor way to use a flashback on Oda's part, as it is a horrible way to honor a character he just killed off. On the other hand, should Jinbei join for any reason, he will be indirectly fulfilling Ace's request, giving that flashback more purpose and giving "Ace" peace of mind.
[/hide]
So, picking up on the above, I would say people need to consider what Oda is doing with those scenes more. Why is Oda showing us the recently killed off Ace, via flashback, asking Jinbei to look after his brother? I personally think that was to show that he is starting to honestly consider honoring Ace's request, as well as give the readers a hint of his added future involvement. Anything other than that would be, in my opinion, a poor use of Ace and mini-flashbacks. IE: Jinbei could have said that line in the present at any point prior to this (or after) to the same effect. It didn't require Ace, especially right after he died, and through such a method as "look after Luffy".
@Uncle:
A pipe is not a sword. Ace and Luffy don't use pipes in real time.
It would be pretty cool to see Luffy use a staff or spear in present time at some point though, since we now know he used something similar in the past. Speaking of the pipes, it really reminds me of Kinkreet, so I have been hoping Ace will pop off the end of the pipe to reveal a hidden blade at some point.
-
what about jimbei's I still can't swim freely yet, so i will ascertain luffy's recovery iwht my own eyes, though i'm not sure what i can do.
kind of sounds like to me he is just sticking around till luffy heals up
-
You could just take it as, "Don't worry. I couldn't leave even if I wanted to so I'll keep an eye on him."
-
@Uncle:
You could just take it as, "Don't worry. I couldn't leave even if I wanted to so I'll keep an eye on him."
because he can't swim
not because he is chewbacca
-
because he can't swim, not because he is chewbacca
wat? Do you not get it?
"Please keep an eye on him."
"Don't worry, even if I could leave, I wouldn't." -
That shit didn't even make sense.
Jinbei's statement was obviously, "I can't leave even if I want to so I'll watch over him" not, "Man, I wish I could get out of here but big daddy can't swim right now so I guess I'll check out this guy for a while even though I really don't want to." He's not heavily opposed to watching over Luffy or angsty to get back to Fishman Island and, as brennen has stated, there's the conversation he had back with Ace. Nothing of his demeanor to me suggests that he's at all dissatisfied with being stuck watching over Luffy.
-
wat? Do you not get it?
"Please keep an eye on him."
"Don't worry, even if I could leave, I wouldn't."what no
he is saying i can't really leave right now anyway so i'll watch over him till he is healed
then saying not sure what good me here will do though
he is just kind of staying there out of debt to ace to watch over luffy, figuring least he can do is wait till luffy is healed and conveniently enough jimbei also needs ot still heal a bit.
-
He is saying–
He's being humble by saying there isn't much he can do outside of being there for emotional support. The comment about being injured is just to point out that he couldn't even leave even if he wanted to, so Ivankov has nothing to worry about.
He is just kind of staying there out of debt to Ace to watch over Luffy.
Or, Luffy has earned his respect and he has decided he will stay with Luffy like any other friend would who is worried and considers it important. Pretty sure he has no debt with Ace, since he declined in the flashback. He does have a debt with Luffy, but his being there is not obligation alone. Basically, you wouldn't have a point even if you were correct about this because Oda wrote Jinbei into the story, had Jinbei get injured, and now has Jinbei "stuck" with Luffy. So…........

Wrong.

apparently you didn't look at the chapter page I poted before that
Jinbei: Yes… Im still not up to swimming. The least I can do is stay here and make sure Luffy recovers...

and in the same chapter jimbei remebered again what Ace told him,i think its safe to assume that Jimbei is going to acompany them to FI.

Anyone else feel that Sabo is just this wildcard that's come into play? Until now we had pretty good idea of who might join the crew, but now this guy who may or may not be alive is getting all this stuff.
I personally still think Sabo is gonna die, though if he's still kicking. Who knows what could happen…
But I'm willing to put some money down on that, if he is alive. We are getting a "World Nobles arc."
-
Sabo for SHP crew member!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't, at least for now. The vibe I get from Sabo is that he will be a sacrificial lamb that leads to Luffy being how he is now. This doesn't mean he will die, but something will happen to him, and that will be necessary for Luffy's development.
I'll wait the end of the flashback. Even if Sabo survives, his chances of joining are zero until he appears in the present. Of course, Oda could make him appear as soon as the flashback ends, but even then I don't think he will just pop up in Amazon Lily and get invited by Luffy.
And there's also the chance that Sabo appears, and is captain of his own crew, just like Ace was.
-

I disagree, I think Sabo has already sacrificed himself for Luffy and Ace. Now with the death of Ace and the actions of Luffy it will have him want to relive their dream. Also if we factor in that he's one of the nobles Luffy's action towards a noble it would be the perfect place for someone like Sabo to go.
-

Do you really think the "big sad revelation" at the end of every flashback has already happened?
-

I think it has happened. However, they still need to get away from the blue jam pirates.
-
I think it has happened. However, they still need to get away from the blue jam pirates.
I'm sure it hasn't happened yet. And this is not my usual "I think this may happen" stance, this is me 100% sure at least once. Why do I think so?
There's still a lot to happen in this flashback. We have not seen the Tenryuubito, we have not seen Ace almost dying, we have not seen Ace and Luffy promising each other to live free and without regrets.
Escaping from Bluejam is no reason for the flashback to continue, specially since we didn't even see how they were captured in the first place. It would just lack the emotion needed for a flashback. Something bad will still happen, and it will involve Sabo, and that will end the flashback for sure.
I think this flashback will continue for at least 2 more chapters, if not more. If there are two, one will be about the tenryuubito arriving, the other will have the "big event" that will define this little tale.
-

I look at Sabo as being either A) The character who made Luffy and Ace realize their bond as brothers, the third wheel if you will, or B) Some character who will come into play in some future event, crewmate or not.
This entire flashback i've been going. "Who's this kid, wasn't this suppose to be closure for Ace?" Now with the Celestial Dragons coming, and all of this stuff, I wonder what Oda is trying to cook up here..
I do beleive that this whole flashback is set up for a future arc though, and that may means things for Boa and Jinbei.
