Looking forward to this. Lots of material in that rushed out chapter.
i guess put this in spoiler
! wow i can't believe we are in ch. 545 and in ch. 548 we are gone from impel down. soo soon it seems. we are so close to the war being animated.
also i love how fast one piece seems to move, i mean it seems like we are really close to manga, but there is so much to show still

This would've been really funny if you posted this in the Episode 445 thread.

why cause the episode/chapter 45/48 thing woudl match up?
'cause that was a rather slow and crappy episode.

No, as Crossword said; just read the thread :)
Tomita and Tate. I can't see a reason not to be excited. I just hope they cover more material in this episode.
And hopefully the preview doesn't disappoint.
This episode feels so slow. It's unbelievable. One of the slowest episodes in the history of this anime.
This is the worst Tate episode yet. It's been nothing but people staring at each other and using the occasional attack. Only Iva's gender bender look good.
Dammit, it's always the pacing that ruins the episode.
Where did it end? O_o
Where did it end? O_o
Magellan appearing on level 1 and Luffy being shocked at him beating Iva and Inazuma.
Love Tate, love this chapter's animation and all but that damn pacing! I really feel like i've watched just 10 minutes of OP.
Well, the preview looked decent at least, and finally showed the hydra's full body.
Jeez, the Impel Down Arc in the anime is going to have more episodes than chapters it looks like! The only other arcs that's done that is Loguetown and Post-Enies Lobby…
I really hope this super-slow pacing on Impel Down is just so they can move faster in Marineford because it'll be awful if Marineford has this same pace.
pretty slow episode despite the fact it covered 16 pages..
Naval battle next week ?

I think you hit the nail on the head, this arc has been slow as shit in the anime to make way for the very fast past MF arc
Sacrificing a good arc for an even better one I guess…..
I am pretty sure that after this ark, we will get the second half of the Straw Hats adventure. Probably like 5 or 6 episodes. After that, the Marine Ford ark
Is there any decent Croc or Shiryuu cameos in this episode?
If not, I'm not sure about wasting the last of my monthly bandwidth on this =/
Edit: Actually, I already went over my bandwith and got a $31 fine DX So I guess I have to pass until next week when it rolls over.
They'll have to do something. A lot of the Marineford chapters are going to be disasters at the current pacing.
haven't seen so don't know how bad your ideas of pace is. but i find it humorous how since impel down started and all the way through the marine ford arc people were complaining how fast Oda was going and hoped the anime woudl flesh out many of the things.
and then every single week in here you guys are bitching that it isn't going as fast as manga and hate when the anime fleshes anything out.

it's not so much the fleshing, but the way they flesh it out. still screens and staring seem to permeate this arc, and it just seems like a bunch of filler.
i can just see them turning buggy opening the gates of justice into a 5 minute event…

ha well to be fair it probably does take 5 minutes to open those huge gates. but stuff is so exagerated. If it takes 30 seconds to do that scene it will FEEL like 5 minutes.
If they're going to drag stuff out during Marineford, drag out some of the fights.
@Cyan:
If they're going to drag stuff out during Marineford, drag out some of the fights.
how bout lets not use the word DRAG, but instead use expand.
i would rather they expand upon the fights than drag them out.
Good thing about Marineford is that there is a ton of opportunities for "implied fiiller" which is the best kind
You could expand on fights and work with the huge amounts of chaotic battling going on in the background
Terrible, terrible episode. The only good thing about it was some of the Inazuma stuff after Ivan's defeat and Mr. 3's reaction to seeing Crocodile.
Overall just a slow and boring episode.
To Sammsy, half an episode of nothing except a stare-down between Magellan and Ivankov is not "expanding a rushed chapter" at all.

- There was a Buggy filler scene that lasted a minute before the eyecatchers. After the eyecatchers, the same scene just replayed from the beginning.
- The first half was so slow, just a staredown between Ivankov and Magellan…reminded me of DBZ filler.
- The first BGM used "Daiabare! Zoro & Franky" is less than a 2 minute song but they kept on repeating it for 5 minutes...-_-
- A lot of the art wasn't very good, even for Tate, especially considering the last ep he did

i said i haven't seen episode yet.
and i was saying i hope they expand scenes instead of dragging them out. staring i consider dragging out. expanding i think back to kidd/law vs kumabot
edit: btw go TWINS!!! top 11 bases loaded with only 1 out.
What they should've done to "expand a rushed chapter" is not start the episode with running on Level 3; they should've started it still on the staircase and them reaching the top and entering Level 3. Magellan could've been flying up the stairs all badass-like too. That could've lasted a minute or 2 and even though it's nothing special, it could've reduced a lot of the boring fight filler the next 10 minutes of the episode had to offer.
That was dragged out way too much!
Really, way too many staring contests. The pacing here actually destroyed story consistency. The way the last episode ended with Magellan really angry just doesn't lead very well to him standing there with Ivankov doing nothing, while watching Inazuma cut the stairs up. Really it took so long that Magellan should have been able to deal with Ivankov sooner.
It worked a lot better in the manga.
And seriously, repeating the expanded Buggy part? Meh. I hope that this is all making room for a great paced Marineford arc.
I also was not too impressed with the way the episode looked. The lighting on the characters was very strange and just didn't look right to me.
Lastly the recap at the beginning of the episode was so long that it almost covered all of the parts of the manga chapter that the episode did properly.
Yeah, even I thought repeating the havoc on Level One was idiotic.
How long do Japanese commercial breaks last? This is a bad case of "viewers are goldfish" and even worse when I watch the Funimation Simulcast and the only commercial is a 30 second long phone ad.
I'll admit that the first half of this episode was almost painful to watch. I mean, how does it go from Magellan launching himself on Venom Road to walking nonchalantly poisoning prisoners? The staring between Ivankov and Magellan took too damn long and the repeated Buggy filler was unnecessary. Other than that, I found this episode quite enjoyable. I will admit though, that Tate was sadly wasted on this episode. One of the more impressive portions of this episode was Iva turning back into a guy…the art and animation during that sequence was simply breath-taking, albeit a little creepy. XD Lastly, the ending of this episode was just awesome. It's been a while since I've had the "I want the next episode now" feeling, but this episode ended on that note perfectly.
Well, Tate's art was all right (though there were a few low-quality bits that clearly weren't animated by him), but the directing was bad. That second recap was completely unnecessary, and while repeating a portion of the Buggy stuff after the eyecatches would've been okay, repeating the whole thing wasn't.
And more low-detail still shots! I really hate those things. I was looking forward to seeing Mudare Shoryuken in Tate's style, but no, it's a still shot! Ugh.
And to add insult to injury the stream was a slow as molasses because my roommates were eating up the bandwidth streaming UFC!
Well, Tate's art was all right (though there were a few low-quality bits that clearly weren't animated by him)
I'm imagining the scenes with Luffy running and things like that weren't animated by him, but Ivankov and Inazuma were? There was a hell of a lot more detail when it showed those two as opposed to everything else.
I was actually think of Buggy and Mr. 3 running right before meeting Crocodile. Didn't look much like Tate (or good, for that matter). Ivankov firing off the first Death Wink and parts of the transformation wasn't by him either (though that part wasn't low-quality at all).
Oh yeah, anyone else find the part where Luffy's standing around talking to someone while two prisoners are getting eaten by the manticores in the background funny too?
It felt that episode was suppose to begin at the half-way mark, what with the second recap and subtle change in art style.
Hated the first half of this episode, but I thoroughly enjoyed the second half. Magellan appearing as a silhouette inside of Venom Road as he flew up to level 3 was pretty damned intimidating.
The episode ended on a bit of a random moment though. I think a good ending would have been right as you hear Magellan go "Hydra!" and everyone turns and looks.
- decently long recap
- lots of still images used
- the buggy part before the commercial break is re-seen after the commercial break
- and yeah…. stretching....
pretty slow episode despite the fact it covered 16 pages..
Yeah, dude you hit it on the head with that one. The current trend with these episodes seems to be: Awesome, meh, shit, in that order.
Since nobody's posted it yet…Preview!

Hmm.. This episode bugged me. It does not seem like Tate's style at all. What ever happened to the fast paced fluid movements? What happened to the compositions an perspectives I always recognize? Hell… Where are to cool dust effects and decent directing? The only decent scenes.
-Inazuma first Wink.
-Sadi getting up and waking the guard... How the hell did Mino get there? Did he pull his ass out of the wall and took a nap with the rest?
-Crashing stairway... though they did exaggerate on the dude cutting it for extra "emotion". Who the hell cares about these additional layers of personality? He's supposed to cut it effortlessly while sticking to his mission with no hesitation. Atleast it looked good falling down with the tension building up...Took too long though.
The bad...
-Megallan: What the hell happened to that intense voice? Now his walking around casually taking care of things slowly. Hydra did look cool sometimes though...
-The Buggy filler is bad, but not as bad as the other gay scenes. Good thing he did not repeat his pains on the previous floors for the 100th time,.
-Most of the scenes lacked speed. Tate is speedy. What happened here?
-The freaking narrator. Shut the hell up.
-Toei's unfunny and uncreative beasts are back. Why are the Manticores scared though? They are supposed to hungry and brainless... oh well.
Well... At least the worst chapter of ID is over.. That's a good thing...I did expect more though. Considering all the opportunities to expand the material
WOW… worst episode of One Piece ever? Definitely up there. People are scraping the bottom of the barrel to say anything good about it. That was... shamelessly lazy "animation". I say "animation" because for a good portion of the episode nothing is moving. I actually almost just stopped watching to go back to studying property law. PROPERTY LAW.
I hope to god this will be worthwhile in a few more episodes. Impel Down is going down as the absolute worst arc in One Piece anime. Worse than any fillers.
What in the world do they have against Magellan's Hydra? They've barely shown it's whole body the entire time it's been used.
Overall, a bad episode. Bleh. Hopefully, they're saving up all their money to make the next part of this arc a freaking blast because so far….
but i find it humorous how since impel down started and all the way through the marine ford arc people were complaining how fast Oda was going and hoped the anime woudl flesh out many of the things.

There is a huge difference between "fleshing out" and what the anime is doing here.
Having 10 minutes of Buggy and Mr. 3 filler where all they do is make shit jokes is not "fleshing out". Three minutes of Magellan WALKING toward Iva and then three more minutes of a stair case collapsing is not fucking fleshing out. I do think that marineford could benefit from extending certain events that we were just given glimpses of, but I don't remember anybody saying impel down needed to be fleshed out with this type of shit. If the anime was actually adding anything of value, people really wouldn't have as much of a problem with it.
I feel like each episode like this should just end with a "We're sorry." I mean, we know why they're doing it, but godammit isn't there a better way? If it's gonna suck, just have a re-run or something. It's better than watching quantity over quality.
