That last American Tail sequel must have been enough to kill the franchise as there hasn't been a film in it since '99. The Land Before Time had one as recently as 2007. All Dogs Go Direct to Video seems to be a dead franchise as well.
The Frog Princess (2D!!)

-
All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 was actually pretty decent, in that it had a fun villain and a couple decently catchy song numbers, (It's too heavenly here" and the villain song "it feels so good to be bad". It was over the top and obvious and straight to the cliche book with its plot points, but I think it at least tried., even if the overall plot made no real sense.
Was still better than the Christmas special that followed. And WAY better than the amazingly insipid TV series.
That's right. All Dogs Go to Heaven had a TV series. And so did the Land Before Time… Both of them some, oh, 20 years after their original movies came out. And oh yes, they are as bad as you might imagine.
-
Haha that Naveen pencil animation was great, although by the time it got to the legs, I had a feeling of what was going to happen.
When Land Before Time began it was cute and fun, then it started getting monotonous with the introduction of the 5th movie. Back around 2000 I gladly gave away my collection I'd once actually ENJOYED. Unnecissary sequels kill everything.
I do somewhat regret giving away the original LBT movie though. All Dogs Go to Heaven? First was good, second was ok, and as for the Christmas Carol? I had no idea that even existed

So, can anyone here explain to me the relation between Land Before Time and Dink the Little Dinosaur?
-
as far as i know, there isn't a link
-
I don't know of any specific relationship; Dink, the Little Dinosaur came after The Land Before Time, but I don't know of any actual connection between the two other than Dink's cast is pretty obviously "inspired" by Littlefoot and his friends. Most likely a Ruby-Spears executive saw The Land Before Time at the theaters and thought "Hey, we can make money off of this!"
As to why they didn't license The Land Before Time… well, either the cost of licensing it was too high or Ruby-Spears had gotten tired of paying licensing agreements for shows. They cranked those out left and right during the '80s; Punky Brewster, Lazer Tag Academy, Heathcliff, Police Academy, and so on. Of course, maybe Bluth himself didn't want anything to do with Ruby-Spears after their adaptions of Dragon's Lair and Space Ace.
-
I loved the first Land Before Time movie to death….I have since avoided and denied the existence of any sequels.
There are no Land Before Time sequels.
-
I grew up on Land Before Time too. The last movie I have seen was the one with Chomper and "Big Water"…. that freaking song is stuck in my head since that was the only part of the series my mom bought instead of rented(that means alot of re-watches) .I know there were more after that but ... I have to admit, I was getting tired of seeing more movies and I was a dumb kid.
-
Aw dammit, you got that song stuck in my head now.
Yeah that's my last one too I think
-
I saw this movie yesterday, and I found it really boring. The bad guy was kinda cool but that's about it. I guess they followed their standard Disney formula, but I never got any Lion Kingesque "this is pretty good" feeling from it.
-
An American Tail: The Great Depression or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Stock Market.
Ding ding ding, we have a winner!
LIVE ACTION GET LOST
It already has. Most big tyme movies these days are the equivalent of slapping an actor's face on a CGI double and animating everything for green screen.
-
Went to see it today since the UK FINALLY got it. Dunno what to think about it to be honest. I found the prince and the princess pretty boring but the side chars like the Shadowman, The spoilt girl, firefly and Alligator to be pretty awesome.
Artwork was all shiny shiny and nice however.
Overall I think it was good and the best Disney since Tarzan however I kinda just felt like I'd seen it all before. Which was a shame.
-
I'm just going to leave this here.

I'm going to the Magic Kingdom in March. If I see Louis, I will have the hardest time trying not to glomp him.

I highly doubt it, but that would be EPIC!
I'm also shocked how well they pulled off Facilier.
EDIT: I really hope they include Charlotte one day.

Ha ha. Not just anyone can wear that awesome top hat.

lol. I'm guessing PatF is pretty much going to take over New Orleans Square in Disneyland now.

God, I hope so.
Apparently, the movie has a spot in the parade now.
EDIT: Oh! My University has a movie theater (it's kind of crappy and they show movies only late at night), and their showing PatF this week. That usually means that the movie will be coming for DVD soon (March I believe).
I'm excited. I'm so going to watch the movie like five times.
-
I sporfled at Naveen in the video, partly because of the crushed green velvet outfit. The guy himself looks good for the part, but I wish they'd have made the costume out of something less…shiny.
But Godammit, as if I didn't wanna go to Disneyland badly BEFORE. Waaaant.
-
Heres hoping they'll do a firefly themed float for the light parade; it's too fitting to not happen.
I went to see it again recently, as propably the first dane to see it twice, and it marked the first time I chose to see the original over the dubbed version of a 2D movie. The danish dub just seemed atrociously bad compared to the original. I realize that making danish/New Orleansian accents is propably not possible, but completely disregarding the fact that everyone in the movie speaks in their own unique way was just…..lazy. Everyone speaks the same stupid plain danish dialect, they couldn't even give Naveen a goddamn eastern european accent which any VA, hell every person in this country can do.
It's sad really; Though we've once been praised for close-as-possible-to-original-cast dubbing it's gone down the shitter to the point were PaTF sounded no better in the trailers than the average half assed saturday morning cartoon.Anyone else from non-english speaking countries experiencing this problematic phenomenon?
-
Have not seen the swedish one yet, but I think they went a bit better with the voices….
EDIT: .....................No…..

I came back from my road trip the other day, and I have two things to talk about dealing with this movie.
1. I went to the Magic Kingdom in Disney World (Florida). A few stores have Princess and the Frog related stuff, but most importantly, Tiana and Navine (both as humans) come out in Town Square for meet and greet. Neither one look half bad. Otherwise, none of the parades had any PatF characters. I can understand Spectral Magic not having them, that makes sense. But the Celebrate parade?
They managed to get Kermit the Frog, Ms. Piggie, and that…..huge brown monster guy that they forgot in the Muppet Movie...., but not any of the PatF guys?
2. I went to New Orleans. Wow, that place is crazy. They had St. Patricks Day parade, and I got a few beads. Also, beignets are AMAZING! I bought four boxes of beignet mix.
-
They will probably incorporate the new characters in a future parade, they don't just throw in new characters in the middle of the season usually.

Takes time to integrate new characters into parades when there's a theme going on. The Celebration Block party would be difficult to integrate PaTF IMO. Horse carriage rides are easy though and can easily fit in Spectral, but they may be planning to make a float. Muppets though are easy to integrate into Celebration Block Party since they were there before PaTF.

You went to French Quarter right? I agree, the beignets were great.

Yup, normally they don't but they did have them in Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party. Tiana and Naveen was there to promote the movie though.
Don't worry, they'll have them soon.
-
and that…..huge brown monster guy that they forgot in the Muppet Movie
Sweetums.
Anyway, they'll add them soon enough.
-
Oh, you were in town? That's cool!
I used to live around there. I miss being close to Disney, but I don't miss the heat.
Although I went to Typhoon Lagoon, and it was breezy. They heat the wave pool.
I always went to Downtown Disney/Disney Marketplace. Why didn't I know how AMAZING Earl of Sandwhich was before I moved away…...

You're right.
I have a hard time believe Spectral Magic would have something new anytime soon though.

Yep! I even went down Bourbon Street. My God people are crazy.
I saw a chick randomly pole dance next to a performing band just because it was her birthday.

I want to do Mickey's Very Merry Christmas again, but my family seems to prefer the Halloween celebration.
Mickey's Very Merry Christmas comes with free cookies and hot chocolate, damnit! I don't like hot chocolate, but those cookies were SO GOOD!
Sweetums.
Anyway, they'll add them soon enough.
Sweetums! That's so it!
I always remember him from Muppets 3D in MGM and his part in the movie.

My friends love Earl of Sandwich because it's cheaper and more filling than regular Disney counter-service.

I hope I can go again this year at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas. Last year was great since it was my first time going.
I loved the hot chocolate at VMC was amazing! It was everything a hot coco was supposed to be.

I tried a hot tuna melt without cheese.
It was so good, I almost died.

It's amazing that they give those things for free. Granted, the VMC ticket isn't cheap, but neither is the food they usually supply.

True.

Saw this in the theater and bought the Blu Ray today… my job here is done Disney. Ball's in YOUR court.
-
Ooo! It's out!
Our mission is clear, people. The people failed PatF at the boxoffice, we MUST make the DVD into a bestseller!
-
Bought one, and made two of my sisters each buy one for their household.
I saw it with another sister, who hadn't seen it. She cried so much at the end.
Speaking of crying, I saw "Everybody's Fine" today.
-
It's still out in the cinema here, so no dvd. Might go and see it again, I kinda want to see "friends on the other side" again.
It doesn't seem to have done too bad in the cinemas overall. Obviously not up to par with the nineties, but it made a profit.
-
Except that all the Disney CEO fuckheads will see was their movie not making profit in the domestic market while Avatar broke records. Fucking Avatar.
-
Guys, let's not forget that Disney movie boom financially when released on DVD.
What is the movie generally aimed for? Children. Are parents going to take their loud children to see a movie when the movie tickets cost more than the DVD now-a-days.
Besides, 'supportas gon support'! The saw the movie in theaters twice with at least three other people each time. I even convinced my sister's to buy the movie for themselves instead of borrowing it from me.
-
Got it on Blu-ray today.
Combo pack. 16 bucks + tax.
Had a 10$ off coupon.
-
Keep them sales going via word of mouth if you have too… I want more new Disney movies like this dammit. And I am SOOO getting Beauty and the Beast on Blu Ray this fall it's NOT even funny :V
zDMfpbdbHWg
-
sigh So looking forward to that Beauty and the Beast release later this year (2-disc DVD for me). I haven't updated my BatB since the original VHS, so I'm excited for the pretty pretty. _
And naturally, I've bought the Princess and the Frog DVD too. I've already peeked at the deleted scenes; I actually really like the other introduction to Louis, and would've been okay with it too.
EDIT: There's a small teaser for Rapunzel…er, I mean Tangled (eesh) in the Sneak Peeks section, along with the Toy Story 3 trailer, The Black Cauldron, James and the Giant Peach, and a quartet of Miazaki Special Editions.
....Man, I'm gonna be giving Disney ALOT of my money this year.
-
Interview with Anika Noni Rose. Quite a bit of Frog Princess related stuff in there, and other things.
-
I bought the Blueray/DVD/Digital disc pack today. AND I also bought Ponyo.
The ball is in your court, Disney. I've done my part, now do yours. (Snow Queen!!)

hmm well finally saw this about a week ago, and i was dissapointed. was it a good movie and fine plot and all that, yes. but it was missing the main thing that all most disney movies that i like have, and that is the music. I HATED the music.
jazz music just doesn't seem to fit for being sing along music in a disney movie. nothing against jazz music, and not saying i hate jazz music or anything, and being jazz music fit the theme of the movie perfectly, but it just didn't feel right being jazz music as the sing along songs for a disney movie. or a sing along at all, not just disney.
-
I really loved the music personally…It's not like it's the first Disney movie to incorporate Jazz songs (Aristocats, Lady and the Tramp, Jungle Book, 101 Dalmations)
I mean, who can deny the catchiness of these jazzy classics

ok post a bunch of clips from movies i have never heard of or even seen
when i'm talking about disney music i'm talking about lion king, tarzan, hercules, aladdin, little mermaid, mulan, beauty and the beast, pokahontas, and others i'm sure you can think of. and hmm maybe its just the jazz music not a huge fan of i guess. those 3 posted above jungle book, lady and tramp, aristocats are good and fine movies, but just like this movie princess and hte frog just weren't top tier disney movies to me.
they were good, but not great.
-
Those are all movies from the Disney Renaissance of the 90s, you ignored 50 years worth of movies and music. There's a lot more to Disney than just the 90s films.
-

did you ever think that jazz wasn't in those films simply because jazz doesn't fit in with Africa/the jungle/ancient greece/china/the middle east/etc? Whereas New Oreleans is THE BIRTH PLACE OF JAZZ
frankly, if you haven't even seen The Junglebook, much less the Isle of Music, I'd have to say this sounds like a big fat case of IT WASN'T AROUND WHEN I WAS STILL POOPING MY DIPER SO I'M GOING TO BE EXTRA JUDGEMENTAL

You're entitled to your opinion about the movie, and Jazz music…but saying there was anything wrong with having Jazz music in the soundtrack is plain ignorant. Besides the fact that as Taboo mentioned, there isn't any other musical style that would even FIT in a 1930s New Orleans setting, Disney has a rich history of Jazz soundtrack music.
Might as well say something like "I didn't like it because It's 2D animation, it just didn't feel right to have a 2D animated Disney movie because all I know and like are their 3D style movies."
And if you don't think Jungle Book and Lady and the Tramp aren't top tier movies...I can't even respond to that...let's just knock Snow White, Bambi, and Cindarella while we're at it. Forget all the classics that made Disney animation famous, only the 90s count!
-
That's two mods and a senior banding together, whoo! Isn't the kind of unity that Classic Disney can bring together beautiful?
-
Hinscher's got a point, though. While I personally liked most of the songs, they're more like vehicles for the narrative rather than "singable" songs you could take out of context of the film and whistle on your way down Main Street USA.
Most of the Renaissance songs were not culturally specific toward the film in general, save maybe two, Hunchback and to a lesser extent Mulan. They made up for this by having the same overall structure, song specific metre, and a recognizable melody. In PATF, even my two favourite songs "Friends on the Other Side" and "If I were a human being" lacked most of those three features, and didn't even have a chorus.
Technically though, all of the "classic" Disney shows had jazz music by default. Jazz was the popular music of the 1940's - 1960's, so if you heard something in them it was usually jazz music because rock hadn't risen to prominence yet. There were some folk-song exceptions and elevator music for some Disney shorts but those still incorporated jazz elements.
PATF's jazz is more like…stereotypical big band swing jazz and some dixie, two smaller subsets of a larger broad genre.
