Hey 'E', you aren't secretly a spy… are ya??
Hmmm….
@People:
I think so too. Did i said that ALL is better in manga? Your trying to make me wrong?
Y'know, being wrong isn't such an awful thing.

I've got a few.
But I'm waiting for the right time.

I could think of a few names.
Although none are suitable for polite company.
Manga has better art….....and no fillers.....
Anime probably does better for fights and character development and characterization...but both are excellent....
My first choice is manga, however.
Have you ever read a arc in the manga and it's been brilliant and even more so in the anime or vice versa?
Manga.
You should had made a poll at least.
I started with the anime, but I have to say the manga is better overall. I mean, animation in One Piece fluctuates so randomly and the style changes at the worst possible times. What I do love about the anime, though, is that the music and voice acting are SUPERB, and they add that signature One Piece epic to the show. Sometimes after I read a chapter, I go to the existing anime episode just to watch it, just because the tracks in the OST are so awesome.

The Drum Island arc comes to mind.
I enjoyed it in the manga, but it was all kinds of epic in the anime.
Particularly Hiruluk's last stand. There was not a dry eye in the house.
I prefer Whiskey Peak animated, since it reminds me of the old cartoons I used to watch in the mornings. There's some really great comedic timing there. And as I mentioned before, Amazon Lily's later portions are more bareable to me in the anime.
I find it weird that this is posted in the Anime section, but it's a "Anime vs Manga" discussion.
It should be moved to the General One Piece.
Both. Reading it an imagining the panels in between is awesome, but sometimes, it's just more awesome hearing the voices of the characters. And the great music.
its not even worth to discuss anymore.. it
s sure a personal choice afterall but when you actually bought all volumes and dont have shitty taste as a chronical illness you always will decide for the **FUCKING MANGA !!!** c
mon the anime isn`t so great after all, just look at better examples like "ghost in a shell", "cowboy bebop"..hell many animes!
the manga stands without a doubt under the top mangas ever created in every list you will find…
so a manga who is topclass against a anime who is maybe middle class and also has shitty fillers here and there.
is it rly that hard...just because you started with watching the anime and so "yeah thats how i was introduced to the story and so i prefer that"...uhh just buy the volumes..read it and you will see!
Wait wait wait…are you saying the Cowboy Bebop anime was bad?
GTFO
No hes saying the opposite. IN clear, there are a lot of animes better than One Piece, in term of animation, which is true. So to say noobly "one piece is a good anime" c'mon stop it. One Piece is a good manga, the story and all is awesome. The story and all of this is the same in the anime, exept for fillers. THE ANIMATION is not as good compared to a lot of other animes. So, to say that OP anime is better than OP manga, it's a shame, because it just mean that you prefer a crappy animation (since it's not very good, you know, weekly episode), than the awesomeness of OP manga.
Fortunately, these people are a minority.
@Vegard:
…Say, have you ever heard of this thing known as
PERSONAL PREFERENCE?
Because it sure as hell doesn't look like it. Just because you apparently think the manga is the epitome of perfection that can never, ever possibly be matched/exceeded by the anime, that doesn't mean that everyone who disagrees with you is automatically wrong.
Usually this is the case, but this isn't one of those times.
People who like the anime better need to be genetically scrubbed.
Even when I am reading the Manga, in my head I am envisioning each scene being animated complete with voice acting and music.
So it takes you 40 minutes to read a chapter?
So it takes you 40 minutes to read a chapter?
So it takes you 40 minutes to watch a 23 minute episode?
lol, did some dude on the first page seriously describe that pastel shitfest with smudged backgrounds as "VIVID COLOR". ahahahaha
Wait wait wait…are you saying the Cowboy Bebop anime was bad?

There's no point in trying to communicate with anime preferers. They are missing half their basic motor functions and cognitive abilities.

Most fans of Naruto (in my country at least) actually prefer the anime. Heh who knew.

Well, with panels like this, can you blame them?

Ahaha! Please tell me that was photoshopped!
So it takes you 40 minutes to read a chapter?
Ummm… I usually take tea before reading so everything is fast-forwarded in my head... but it still feels the same!
Ahaha! Please tell me that was photoshopped!
Nah, just awkwardly paused during a fluid moment.

On the thread topic, I'd have to say, manga. There's a certain feeling in going straight from Skypeia to DBF without any awkward interruptions.
If the anime's director is Oda it would be the best anime.
Oda is genius, the anime makers aren't.
Manga.
Anime version is not as artistic as the manga version.

:wassat:what?

That's my mistake. I read it that you thought the Bebop anime was inferior to its manga counterpart. My apologies.
I can't choose.
I prefer Oda's original depictions of the characters in One Piece as opposed to the sometimes rushed-looking artwork in the anime. Oda's a very talented artist.
On the other hand, I love the voice-actors and the musical score in the anime, too. Seeing everything in action is great.
I love both and couldn't imagine one without the other. ^_^
You're pretty much just as bad as he is.
ARRRGHHHH TYPICAL ANIME/MANGA FAN, TYPICAL TYPICAL TYPICAL TYPICAL TYPICAL
head explodes
…You make me wanna take a shit.
ANYHOO.
I suppose I'm more a fan of the anime, than the manga. I guess I could say the manga is more constantly good, since the anime does muck up some moments. But most of the time it does good. Sometimes even phenomenal.
Manga. I prefer Oda's artwork over the anime's.
Well I am a fan of both and I think the two mediums have their strengths. The manga is really top notch and when you consider the pacing, art, and lack of filler to get in the way of the action. reading the manga is just a great experience.
The anime is something i really look forward to every week not because I expect the art to amaze me (although sometimes the animation is great) or because the filler will flesh out the story (it almost never adds anything of real value.) I watch the anime because I appreciate seeing characters I enjoy being infused with a little life. Things will be changed from the manga but I dont think its worth getting to worked up over those changes. So long as 4kids doesnt get their greasy paws on the anime again I will be happy.
Anyway enough rambling I need some sleep.
Before Enies Lobby: Anime
Enies Lobby and up: Manga
The anime's great, but once it gets to Enies Lobby it takes a huge nose dive and it's never truly recovered from it.
The Manga is much better than the anime. All arguments have been said.
The End.
The manga is WAAAAAYYYYY better. The anime is plain annoying.
This has got me wondering whether or not Ace's death will be one of those moments when the anime is brilliant and the animation is very good.

I really hope so, because that is one of the BIG moments of One Piece (and there's gonna be a million of flashbacks of this scene in the anime) so it has to be brilliant.
But it's probably gonna be REALLY dragged out.

Personally I think it improves right after the second half of Thriller bark. Lots of good episodes unlike the heap load of crappy episodes between Davy Back Fight and Enies Lobby.
When I read Enies Lobby the first time, I was pretty exited. Lots of destructive scenes and impact. When I watched it over the summer last year,I felt like I would have dropped the series. It was slow paced, filled with boringly painted backgrounds, and still shot "animation." Even the epic 2 page spreads didn't have the impact… I was bored.
Then we get to the second half of Thriller Bark. I regained my hope again. Not only did the animators try to stay close to Oda's fast paced style, they even added some nice scenes. Sanji kicking Oars in the foot, Docking, Ussop vs Perona 2nd half, , the whole episode where Oars gets beaten and Moria goes apeshit, and 2 minutes of Zoro vs Kuma(I didn't like the rest of the episode afterward, but it was nice while it lasted). Even Soabondy was consistently exiting to marathon.
As for the anime being better than the manga... No way in hell. The anime has it's moments but they cannot match to Oda's 2 page spreads.
I will fight anyone who likes the anime better in real life.
It's really hard to pick one because both have their strong points, though it usually comes down to the manga solely because its usually not full of retarded, longass filler and is of course the most faithful to the author's original intentions. But there are many anime who are very very faithful adaptions of the manga (ie Hellsing Ultimate) to the point they outshine the manga.
I really prefer the OP manga better, only because a few parts of the series were drawn out insanely long (Enis Lobby), which made me lose interest sometimes. I do enjoy seeing my favorite scenes from the manga animated however. Otherwise I like them both equally, though until they got to Impel Down I definitely read more then I watched.
@JERK:

I guess its pistols at dawn then.
the anime because i love the voice acting, fights are better and music to accompany it. Adimittadely it has its moments where their is terrible filler (mr 3 & buggy)
Anime for action
Manga for plot/storyline
i like the anime more its shows more detail i think like i never knew how croc got his clothes in ID saw it on the anime very clear. the action is more kickass in the anime. just think how the war will look in full color and action! i love the manga but love the anime more
