Just thought I'd ask what people think is better, the One Piece anime or manga?
Which Is Better: One Piece Anime Or Manga?
-
-
I think comparing to other japanese cartoons like Naruto or Bleach. For manga, One Piece has its best but for anime, it can be better.
In my country, people usually get OnePiece hooked by reading manga not watching animeI'm really anticipating for one piece ova, recap to come and give new hope.
-
manga hands sown this is the case with most series that were origanaly manga then get turned into anime with few exceptions
-
It's one of the best animes in my opinion. Though it' probaly the best manga out there.
-
I'm not going to lie. I think that there definitely are times when the anime makes certain parts more enjoyable for me. There are some parts, mainly the dramatic parts and action bits, that are greatly improved with the addition of voice acting, music, and movement. I think if there's one thing that we all can agree on with regards to the anime, it's that it rarely lets us down when it comes to the big moments. And also, with all of the little additions and expansions that they've added during the past year, it's certainly become a different viewing experience than it was in the past.
And to be honest, right now I'm enjoying Impel Down a lot more in the anime than I did in the manga. And of course, I commented on at length how the ending of the Amazon Lily arc was noticeably rushed in the manga, while in the anime some of the dumber moments were more tolerable to me, there was some beneficial padding that didn't make it seem as rushed, and then there's the infamous bit at the end where they made it seem like the love bug was contagious or something. Fun stuff.
Overall, the anime does make me laugh more than the manga does. Both have their strengths; the manga naturally has more consistent and detailed artwork, a faster pace, and some powerful images, and the anime has a great cast and OST, as well as plenty of creativity and some noticeably improved artwork as of late. Both have their downsides, but in the end they're both respectable products, deserving of the praise that they receive.
-
I love the anime more than I do the manga.
But that's the way I got into One Piece first, so I'm kinda biased.Everything just flows better for me with the anime, voice acting, motion, comedy, music and most importantly colour. The anime really brings the manga to life.
Of course I still have tremendous respect for the manga, without one their wouldn't be the other.
but in the end they're both respectable products, deserving of the praise that they receive.
Took the words right out of my mouth.
-
Manga. That is all.
-
it isn
t even worth to argue about it for the 3456792950200 time.. everyone who know both the manga and the anime should instantly now the right answer! [hide]ohh, c
mon you know it![/hide] -
Although I started One Piece on anime, I can say that while both the manga and the anime have their own strong and weak points, the manga is certainly much better.
-
That was what i pointed out. Ppl saying that anime is better are wrong. OP read experience is A LOT better. PPl saying that anime is better does not buy the volumes, they don't know the real OP experience. They have a preference for the anime because it allow them to avoid an disadvantage: too lazy to read, or they don't buy the manga so they stick on the anime. A guy who have all the volumes can't say that the anime is better. He know that the question does not even deserve to be asked.
-
Manga. .
-
The answer is not always consistent for me, but is most often that the anime is a better experience. You can only do so much with manga, and Oda has definitely stretched the limit. The anime presents Oda's vision in vivid color, it's able to bring each panel to life, and it presents some of the finer points in the series even better than it can be done on the page. For example, the sadder moments of The Drum Island Arc flashback had a real emotional impact on me during the anime, but it barely resonated with me in the manga. Even when referring to recent events, you have to give the anime a shot at it before you can judge. Perhaps the anime will rip out your heart even more than the manga did.
The anime has two things that make it a better experience, in my book: first, the seiyuu are the best around. The voice acting is so beyond superb that it'll make you see each character on an entirely new level. Though, for the most part it's harder for the English dub to live up to quite that level, they do a fantastic job as well and have made some uninteresting scenes much more fun to watch. Second is the music. Kohei Tanaka has brought One Piece onto an entirely new level with the original soundtrack that One Piece has, and I'd say it's probably one of the, if not the, best television soundtracks around. For me, just that makes watching the anime first worth it.
All this is not to say that the manga isn't more concise at times (The Davy Back Fight was an entirely new experience in the manga, and it's fun getting to go straight from Alabasta to Jaya, for example), and seeing Oda progress into the masterful artist and storyteller that he is today is a fantastic experience. I'd recommend the anime first, but definitely give the manga a read during or after you watch it.

…Say, have you ever heard of this thing known as
PERSONAL PREFERENCE?
Because it sure as hell doesn't look like it. Just because you apparently think the manga is the epitome of perfection that can never, ever possibly be matched/exceeded by the anime, that doesn't mean that everyone who disagrees with you is automatically wrong. -
People Call Me Ego up and about again I see.
-
@Vegard:
the manga is the epitome of perfection that can never, ever possibly be matched/exceeded by the anime,
This. You explain better than me.
Really, the one saying that anime is better, started with it and does not have the books. Thanx god i started with the manga and then i checked the anime. What a surprise to see how slow and boring it is. Exept few part of course, exeption always exist.
Animes are for lazy anyway. -
Good god, who let this anime fan (well , actually, manga fan in this case) in here?
He's the kind I hate the most. Just… look at the way he speaks. Ugh, it sickens me.
-
You're pretty much just as bad as he is.
ARRRGHHHH TYPICAL ANIME/MANGA FAN, TYPICAL TYPICAL TYPICAL TYPICAL TYPICAL
head explodes

Will somebody please ban this moron.
He has posted the same trolling shit in about three threads now.
Its starting to piss me off. -
hey Darkstorm, how's it going?
-
I personally prefer Anime. Even when I am reading the Manga, in my head I am envisioning each scene being animated complete with voice acting and music. Plus I think even the fillers were quite good in one piece so I really don't mind them. So, all in all, to me Anime is much better, of course no disrespect to Manga.
-
Do you buy the manga, kmohyudin? Be honest.
-
I wonder what Oda thinks is better, does he think that the anime is a poor adaptation, about the same or better?
-
I wonder what Oda thinks is better, does he think that the anime is a poor adaptation, about the same or better?
Well I hope he has pride in his own work. But he has commented in the SBS before how much respect he has for the anime adaptation.
-
From what I've read in some of the recent interviews and stuff involving Movie 10, it sounds like Oda's quite satisfied with it. In the Vol. 22 SBS I think it was he talked about it and was quite positive about the staff.
-
hey Darkstorm, how's it going?
None too shabbily today.
I wonder what Oda thinks is better, does he think that the anime is a poor adaptation, about the same or better?
Well he has the voice actors on his sbs and round his house, so I assume he likes it to some degree.

Ummm… no, its not available where I live, and since I don't understand Japanese, I have to settle for translated versions. Therefore, I have to download the volumes (and chapters) from the internet.
Same with the anime, doesn't play on any TV channel we have (other then a TERRIBLE, terrible dubbed Hindi version that was available for a while), so I have to download the subbed versions...
-
-
-
that's great.
oh that's right… I suppose I should say which I like.
hmmm... I like the manga better. However when you've got a free night, perhaps some drugs or some beer... then nothing beats watching the anime with your friends.
-

Well, i personally don't consider a scan read as a real OP read experience.
It's interesting, does people saying that anime is better than manga have really read it?
Kmohyudin, you say that anime is better. But you didnt buy the books. So you don't know what is it.
Did you read all of the volumes on internet or did you stop because you don't like scan, then you stick with anime? In this case you are saying that Anime is better than scan, we agree? -
I'll just add to the stream of pointlessness with manga.
-
Both. I feel like I didn't experience One Piece correctly until I read the manga and watched the anime.
That's about it.
-
@People:

I am saying that I have read all of the manga AND watched all of the anime and that I prefer the anime for the reasons I have stated earlier in this thread.
This may come as an alien concept to you, but other people have opinions that may be different from your own.
Trust me I did psychology for three years at University, I know these things. -

Did you read all of the volumes on internet or did you stop because you don't like scan, then you stick with anime? In this case you are saying that Anime is better than scan, we agree?I started watching the anime and when I caught up with it, I started reading the Manga. At that time, I used to download a complete volume, print it and then read it… I never thought it was boring, in fact I enjoyed the fast pace of the manga a lot. But, like I said, even though I was reading the manga, in my head I would keep envisioning the anime episode. After I caught up with where the anime had animated the manga, I briefly stopped intending to see the anime before I read any further. Pretty soon my curiosity got the better of me and I started reading the Manga. Even now, I enjoy watching the anime more then reading the manga.
Now, I believe this thread is focusing on personal preference. If you like manga more, there are plenty of people who agree with you. I understand what you are saying. However, I don't think it would really have changed my opinion had I been reading original volumes all this time. I just enjoy colors, voice and music, thats all!!
-
dan2026, did you read the manga or did you read the scan? Can we really compare OP manga and the scans on onemanga site? Do you enjoy OP the same way sit in front of your computer, your eyes hurting because reading the text, than in your bed, confortably, with the book in your hands? books which contains SBS??????
I think some ppl are mistaking anime is better than SCAN, and anime is better than manga. -
I honestly believe that both are really excellent, and we all have to remember, without the manga there wouldn't be the anime, but I'd have to go with the anime. It's in motion, it's in color, there's voice acting, and there's Music. It makes a big difference with fights and emotional moments.

I think some ppl are mistaking anime is better than SCAN, and anime is better than manga.I read the tankōbon volumes, while sitting comfortably in my chair, and yes, I still prefer the anime.
SHOCK , HORROR! -
This may come as an alien concept to you, but other people have opinions that may be different from your own.
Trust me I did psychology for three years at University, I know these things.you make it sound like you paid for common sense. But i'm glad you're up to speed.
Hey People Call me E,
can I put you on ignore?
-
Dan, you are lying, i know it.
-
you make it sound like you paid for common sense.
Sadly, you aren't far from the truth.
@People:
Dan, you are lying, i know it.
That's it I give up, I'm not going to respond to you any more.
Its not worth it. -
@People:
Dan, you are lying, i know it.
So… why do people call you E??
-
So dan, you buy the manga right?
If you decide to buy the manga, bare in mind that Viz's translation can be a bit hit and miss at times.
As a personal preference I'd stick with the anime, as manga adaptations go its pretty damn good. One Piece really comes alive for me with colour and motion. -
So… why do people call you E??
I don't know… most people around here call him "people call me e"
-
I've bought all of the English releases so far, read the actual, physical volumes in my hand, while sitting on my hand, and guess what? I still think the anime manages to improve some moments and make some bits more satisfying. Whether you read the scan or the volumes, it doesn't change the fact that the events, pacing, and plot points still remain exactly the same across formats.
Wonder if E will call me a liar next.
-
So… why do people call you E??
The E stands for Egotistical. I believe it was Darkstorm that said it.
Oh, and btw, people call me E, I have every english volume of the manga so far (38), and I don't prefer one over the other. One Piece is One Piece.
If I read one thing, it's not gonna be different from when I watch the SAME EXACT thing animated.
EDIT: and yeah some things are even done better in the anime.EDIT numero 2: And all i've seen you do is bash the anime and say how god-like the manga is. Why?
-
I don't know… most people around here call him "people call me e"
So, People Call me E, you should change your nick to "People call me people call me E"… but then people would start calling you "People call me people call me E" and you would have to change it to "People call me people call me people call me E"...
On second thought, just rename yourself 'E' will ya??
-
Crossword, i trust you. But you didnt said that anime is better than manga.
Same goes for badass…
@Badass:things are even done better in the anime.
I think so too. Did i said that ALL is better in manga? Your trying to make me wrong?
Oh, my name is particular i know. I don't want to say more about it
-
So, People Call me E, you should change your nick to "People call me people call me E"… but then people would start calling you "People call me people call me E" and you would have to change it to "People call me people call me people call me E"....
now you're getting it.
or you could just say P.C.M.E
wait a second…. I see his game here
-
well, the only things I don't like about the anime is the pacing and a couple of eps, otherwise I do believe the anime is more enjoyable, but then again maybe because I don't like reading that much.
