It has been a year; I mean what month did chapter 331-333 came out last year? If this or next month I'll like to ask a intersting qustion: when Usopp and Luffy frist split up, how did you frist react? I was here since October, chapter 340 was out and when I frist saw about this I was shocked.
How did you first feel about the Luffy Vs. Usopp fight?
-
-
Everyone on the forums was like daaaaamn. Few people beleived though that it would turn into such a hardcore pwning though. But it was cool – Luffy getting all hardcase for once. Has it been a year already. God this manga is dragging insanley.
-
I was sad, yet I knew it was coming no thanks to some spoilers. >>
-
(Ego sum original posterus et super grammatica, eh ? ;P)
The shot of Luffy in tears has been the only thing that had me shed a tear. In One Piece, anyway; and just about in all fiction besides
-
Yeah, I could not believe it. Two good friends turning against each other. When did chapter 331, 332 and 333 came out?
-
I kind of knew it was coming too because of people being careless about spoilers. I thought of it then the same way as I do now - it's sad and unfortunate, yet really great dramatic story telling. I think the only difference now is that I think I understand it a little better, and overall I'm more relaxed about it because of everything that's happened since then. It's funny, I think my assumptions on the characters motivations have changed, like 3 times.
-
I kinda went like this:
1. No, this isn't happening, if I close my eyes it'll go away (denial)
2. Sh!t, this is friggin messed up!! Stop it!! (anger)
3. God, please make them stop, I'll do anything you want (bargaining)
4. I don't want to live anymore after having seen this heart-wrecking fight.. (depression)
5. Alright.. it's still One Piece made by Oda, life goes on, it'll be alright (acceptance) -
I'm still wondering when are these two are make up or we have to wait untie next year? "Groan" Chapter 334-339 was desperesing and discouraging; chapter 340-349 was dark and shaky; 350-359 was heart-pounding; 360-369 was relaxing and dark; 370-379 was exciting and fun. The stroy-telling was very emotinal and twisting, I can olny hope Oda have Luffy and Usopp reunite.
In chapter 345, I was worried sick about Usopp, ever since I've been waiting for him to get over it and rejoin his friends and that goes for Robin. After chapter 359 I grew relaxing and today I'm still waiting for Usopp to reunite with Luffy with a relaxing feeling hoping Sogeking's mask is broken apart in front of Luffy. Please Oda, don't let them have an another long-assed dual if the reunion happens.
-
There won't be another duel.
-
Is there anyone here that remember when chapter 331, 332, 333 came out? I know I'm repeating myself but….
-
should be about 50 weeks ago, that means almost a year ago
Back to topic:
At first I thought: no way, Usopp's not gonna leave the Strawhats behind after all they've been through
Felt sad when I saw all those tears, let's see , Usopp,Nami,Chopper,Luffy, Merry cried -
First thought after the fight was damn Usopp did better then I expected him to do,then NOOO not Usopp.
-
i actually feel glad, because Ussop is out …... he know that GM can't sail anymore but he still fight his best friend for that ship ..... that's just stupid
i hope Ussop never join the crew anymore ..... Soge is cooler than him so let Soge join and forget about Ussop .........
-
I thought it would be very, very temporary. I was one of the people who thought that the GM would be destroyed by the fight and that would be the end of that feud.
I was horribly wrong and its forty eight weeks later. Oy Vey.
-

What?!? Do you hate Usopp? Oh come on he's not as worst as you think. I'm sure after this arc Usopp's brain will grow big for him to use it.
-
you could at least not make a mistake in spelling when you create a thread… frist just sounds... obvious...
btw, i wasn't sad when this fight happened. as luffy said at that time, if it happened, it had to, and one way or another, everything would turn out right in the end.

Yes. I'm looking forward for it. BTW when I qustion other people's spelling errors, do they accept what I did? I'm afraid not.

5. Alright.. it's still One Piece made by Oda, life goes on, it'll be alright (acceptance)Mmm… yeah, if I had to summarize what I felt when I had read that part... that's exactly how I felt... (it was my second round of Oda-cursing... lol... the first was when Vivi left... I'm still angry at him for that.)
But I bet when I'll see that ep dubbed here, well... prolly I'll shed a tear... definitely. -
Who cares what other people did. Other people steal. Does that make it okay then? Accept the constructive criticism and improve yourself.
Whatever, I actually was looking forward to it because I wanted to see how Usopp would fight, and I knew since it's a manga, it'd turn out good. Oda wouldn't disappoint his fans and in doing so, his pocket, by doing something a good many of them wouldn't like.
-
Yeah, I too was looking for it. It went pretty much like this:
Chapter 331 -
A week later -
Finally 333 -
I loved those chapters, and I still do. It was truly exciting for sure. -
@joekido:
What?!? Do you hate Usopp? Oh come on he's not as worst as you think. I'm sure after this arc Usopp's brain will grow big for him to use it.
well, you ask about my first reaction after reading that chapter …... and yes, i really hate Ussop at that time, but i change my mind after the conversation between Soge and Robin ..... that's just sweet =)
that's why i said "let Soge join the strawhat" =)
-
Never hated Usopp, but man, did I wanna see him get his ass beat. I was even annoyed that he stayed up for so long.
-
@_Vivi_:

But I bet when I'll see that ep dubbed here, well... prolly I'll shed a tear... definitely. It was a little parody of mine, those are the famous 5 stages of grief - presumably everyone goes through this when they find out they're gonna die soon, or to a lesser degree when they lose a loved one. You must really empathise with the crew if you went through all this =) I'm touched
-
I felt really sad (something like this can't be happening sort of feeling) that the story had to progress to that stage and I was hoping like mad to see Luffy and Usopp somehow reconcile after that. The next tank which still had Usopp under the characters list made my heart thump at the possibility of that happening.
-

One Piece is the anime that makes me cry like crazy, both when reading the manga and while watching the eps… prolly I'm just mad, but I really feel close to them, I can't bear it :D
Anyway, I'll stop there, these just seem to be the random rants of a OP crazy fan XD  -
not so much emotioned in Luffy vs Usopp's fight. It was sad and the final pic with Chopper, Luffy and Usopp crying made me really sad, but the only time i got really emotional in OnePiece was when Luffy hitted the bell in Skypea and his shadow got projected in the clouds, a little tear camed down. anyway… i felt that it wouldn't last... at least no so much
-
Never hated Usopp, but man, did I wanna see him get his ass beat. I was even annoyed that he stayed up for so long.
I knew Usopp was going to lose, but deep inside I was rooting for him. XD No offense to Luffy.
-
i was kinda hyped that it ushered in a new era of usopp badassness. i mean he held his own agains Luffy using dials and his own ingenuity and showed that if/when he came back he would be several steps closer to realizing his dream of being a Great Warrior of the Sea.
i am still confident (perhaps more than ever) that Usopp will rejoin the crew in one form or another when this is over, and that Yasopp will be damn proud when Usopp gets a bounty and is wanted by the marines
-
When 331 came out I was like "whats up with everyone saying "UUUSOPPP NOOO!"?"-Reads chapter- "WTF? You Idiot! How can you think that after Davy Backfight? Remember the Mark you made in Alabasta!"
I felt it was so wrong that I jumped onto the "Merry will sink!" wagon.
At 332 I thought "Okay, the situation can still be saved, Please please please!"333 had me shocked, not HBP-ending shocked, but still "…..NO!" shocked. Ep 236 rivals the Choppers Past episodes in sadness IMO.
-
I felt saddened by it, it was like the whole crew would just split up soon. :(
-
Since Usopp got beaten up by the Franky Family, I was getting kinda depressed. I mean, it's cool and all that the four others went to save him and getting all bad-ass, but Usopp looked truly pathetic at the time. That, though, foreshadows something bad is going to happen.
Yah, sure it was sad and all… I even went fanboyish at first, coming up with immature reasons to defend Usopp's actions. I must admit, though, that I at first saw more wrong in Usopp's side than Luffy's.
But then the Klabautermann appeared, and I almost cried T_T
Those chapters made me realize that I'm reading one of the greatest series in my life. =) Great writing, execution and all... I was kinda pissed that Luffy won in the end, but it is inevitable.
I really, really thought that Usopp is going to quit the crew forever. A friend's suggestion that he will "still appear in the cover stories" almost made me go ballistic. "How inconsiderate!!"
Up to now, more than half my reasons of reading One Piece is Usopp. I fear that if he indeed leaves, my interest in the series will drop down to the level of my interest in Naruto; almost zero.
P.S: Oh, joekido, it would be nice to follow phlemingo's advice:
Who cares what other people did. Other people steal. Does that make it okay then? Accept the constructive criticism and improve yourself.
-
when i first read the fight and the drama leading up to the fight i was all like yeah usopp kick that smiling heartless bastards assXD
then later on i begun to see it from luffys side but still hes a fricking retard who the hell smiles when hes telling your friends terribel news:stupid:
-
lol..well i guess he was trying to be optimistic as usual..and i think that oda sensei doesnt have the balls to let robin die, so i think its still usopp who left and will no longer be usopp, but sogeking and make his own crew that will one day rival luffys? or he'll rejoin with the strawhats and robin will disappear with the government makign the ancient weapons? who knows
-

No way, that would be totally going against what this whole story arc has been establishing. If Usopp left permenantly, then being nakama really isn't all it's cracked up to be afterall. ;)
-
well it woudl suck if usopp left for many reasons..b/c then if he left. the strwhats woudl consist of superstrong ppl cept nami. -_____-; kinda boring. idk.
-
If Usopp leaves, the sexiness factor of the crew goes down 90%!
-
hahahaha of course anyone falls for that long nose
-
optimistic ?
he was an ass pure and simple if some one did that to me IRL i would punch him in the face, lets compare it to a real life situation lets say your at the animal hospital with your favorite pet who means a whole lot to ya and the doctor sez it like luffy did,
-your dog has been diagnosed with cancer and its gonna die
dont worry you can always get a new onechrist what is wrong with luffy these days…..

Luffy would be putting his entire crew's lives at risk if he kept sailing the Going Merry when he knows it's gonna sink any second. He did the right thing. The dog analogy is majorly flawed. A better analogy would be if your mechanic told you your car could explode any minute now, would you get a new one or not?
-
He wasn't going it was more of like encouraging smile… >>;;;
-
I think it should be clear to anyone that Luffy isn´t the best person when it gets to put decisions in diplomatic words. However even though his wording sometimes isn´t adecuate it doesn´t mean that he doesn´t have good reasons.
And the fact stands that Luffy had a good reason to decide against Merry it was either going with the boat and putting the lives of the entire crew in danger or leaving Merry behind. Nobody says that it is a tough decision but it had to be done. The fact that Luffy´s way how he told it Usopp wasn´t very sensetive doesn´t mean that it wasn´t the right thing to do.
-
umm jackvance i think youve completly misunderstood it im not saying he doesnt have any good reasons just that the way he put it was fricking stupid,
and the car explosion analogy doesnt work at all cause luffy didnt tell it that way he said merry is gone/dead but dont worry you can always get another one and then he smiled so my analogy works better at that situation.and Ivotas specificly to you cause i like to adress you
have i said that it wasnt the right thing?
just that he was an asshole when he said it the way he did and smiled and that just a fact.people tend to put words in my mouth sometimesXD
-
and Ivotas specificly to you cause i like to adress you
have i said that it wasnt the right thing?
just that he was an asshole when he said it the way he did and smiled and that just a fact.I never said anything different. I just think that it should be mentioned before the discussion gets carried away on the "Luffy did the wrong thing" wave. It might have not been that what you´ve intended to say, but it may lead there so that´s why I wanted to say what I´ve said first.
-
Well, it does matter that Luffy was right. He made a right decision, why would he have to sugarcoat it? They're pirates, not boyscouts. He just announced that they were getting a new ship. It was Usopp who overreacted afterwards - as he admitted afterwards he already KNEW going merry was a goner too! Luffy was actually being nice because he was trying to comfort Usopp by saying "it is just a ship, we can always get another one." If you think this is being an asshole, he could have also said "shut the hell up, it's a captain's order and that's final". Urging your crew to think realistically was the good approach. Sugarcoating the truth to not hurt the brittle feelings of your crew is NOT how a real captain acts.
Don't forget that Usopp was already heavily doubting himself and his position in the crew after losing the 200 million beri. That is why he overreacted, which isn't Luffy's fault.
That's how I always looked at this unfortunate event.
-
that he was right doesnt change the fact that it was an assholish way to put it atleast to me,
he didnt have to sugercoat shit he could just have sat usopp down and showed him the damages and then telling him thats why it wouldnt be able to sail any further instead of ignoring all that and just stepping on his feelings by saying outloud that its just a ship and that it doesnt matter that its broken cause any old tub could replace it and then flash him a smile basicly giving the impression that he couldnt careless about merry.
would it have hurt his captains authority if he had went about it the nice way since he knew how usopp felt about it?
but i suppose that a real captain to you have to hurt his crews feelings even thought he could just as well have spared them?BTW he also said something along the line of shut the hell up its my decsicion later after usopp started arguing with him.
-
I really can´t believe that we´re having this discussion again. First of all as I already said it before, Luffy was never before know for being able to formulate dimplomatic speeches. Why should it here be different.
He said it in an assholish way to Usopp, that´s true. But Luffy always talks like that. So what did Luffy wrong that he didn´t do all the time before? Nothing. It´s Usopp who couldn´t cope with the assholish behavoir of his captain. All the other´s accepted it, he couldn´t. It´s not only Luffy´s fault. It would have been Luffy´s fault if the entire crew may have reacted like Usopp did. That would have been the best indicator that he somehow did something wrong. But if just one of them all objects while the other´s don´t do it then there must be a reason for that. And that´s that Usopp himself still isn´t the man that he wants to be.
When Luffy tells everybody to leave him behind at the gates of Rain Base Zoro is the first one to agree while Usopp is the only one who has a problem with it.
When Luffy tells Sanji and Zoro to let him fight Aokiji one on one both Sanji and Zoro listen to him while it is only Usopp who doesn´t agree.
And with the entire Going Merry thing it is again Usopp who doesn´t agree.Sorry Usopp is my second favorite Strawhat character, but he still has much to learn and he certainly doesn´t take it "as a man." This is not a sexist opinion I just had to say it that way since Usopp wants to become a brave warrior of the sea. He may have been proven to be brave already and he already fought strong enemies, but he still isn´t a man who could proudly look his own fathers in the eyes. At least not with such a behaviour. Just my two cents.
I don´t defent Luffy here, but as I said it´s not just his fault that it came that far. If it would be then he would have fought the entire crew.
And to quote some great Pirates;
Yassop:"Unfair?"
Ben Beckman:"Don´t be naive. You´re not fighting against holy man."
Shanks: "The ones before you are Pirates."Same goes for Luffy and his crew. They are pirates. It´s not like they are "My Little Pony" characters or whatsoever. So let a pirate captain talk like that. As I already said it, it´s not that Luffy changed his way of talking in this scene.
-
that he was right doesnt change the fact that it was an assholish way to put it atleast to me,
Luffy has always been very upfront and serious about the things he thinks are right and what he believes in. It's always what everyone admired about him.. but now that he does it to Usopp he's suddenly an asshole?
he didnt have to sugercoat shit he could just have sat usopp down and showed him the damages and that it wouldnt be able to sail any further
What would that have helped? Usopp admitted later (when he was with Franky) that he already knew about this. Like I said, Usopp was having a personal crisis at that time, which is why he overreacted. Under normal circumstances it wouldn't have escalated like this. Usopp was already thinking about leaving the crew because he felt useless well befóre the argument. (this was actually a pretty realistic set-up by Oda to work towards the argument they had) And I think everyone knows how unreasonable people can get when they get emotional.
would it have hurt his captains authority if he had went about it the nice way since he knew how usopp felt about it?
but i suppose that a real captain to you have to hurt his crews feelings even thought he could just as well have spared them? It's not about hurting someone's feelings or being nice. Luffy gave his captain's orders and Usopp freaked out and contested him on it. What was Luffy to do? He had to be resolute. As a leader you can't back out when one of your underlings starts screaming at you. This is also exactly what Zoro said to Luffy after the fight. It may be painful but it was the only way. As a captain you have to be resolute, how else can we trust you? Usopp KNEW going merry couldn't sail anymore, and he still contested Luffy openly questionng his authority. Try openly questioning the authority of your boss (if you work) and let's how "nice" he's gonna react to that.
I'm not saying it's Usopp's fault, he was having some problems (which Luffy didn't know), it was just unfortunate..
-
just as im not defeanding usopp ivotas
and jack you keep refering that hes always been that way before well to me he hasnt he has been firm and resolute without being an asshole just that this time he stepped over the boundary atleast to me.
and your speaking with knowledge of what he sez later on,
luffy had no idea if usopp knew or not so he could atleast have told and showed him what was wrong with it,
when franky did it usopp begun to come around so if they had done that in the begining they wouldnt have gone so far me thinks.what im saying why couldnt he just have told him whats happend and why they were switching ships i think that would have worked alot better than just saying im the captain and i say so.
and i dont have a job but i go to school and i question my teachers authority on a daily basis and when that happens we discuss it like intellegent people =)
and come to an agreement its never shut up im the boss. -
and jack you keep refering that hes always been that way before well to me he hasnt he has been firm and resolute without being an asshole.
Don't you think he hurt, say, Arlong's feelings by the things he said to him? The difference is just that Arlong is a villain so we don't care.
what im saying why couldnt he just have told him whats happend and why they were switching ships i think that would have worked alot better than just saying im the captain and i say so.
and i dont have a job but i go to school and i question my teachers authority on a daily basis and when that happens we discuss it like intellegent people =)
and come to an agreement its never shut up im the boss.Well, that's exactly my point, sorry if I wasn't clear. If they would have been discussing it in an intelligent matter, it would have been alright. But Usopp started freaking out and directly questioning Luffy's authority. You say that you routinely question your teacher's authority.. a teacher-student relation is different from a captain-crew relation, but the analogy could still hold. How do you question his authority? Say, your teacher announces a school trip, and you stand up and screaming at him it's a bad idea, how would he react? That's what I'm trying to say.. Usopp immediately made it a heated confrontation, leaving Luffy not much choice besides being resolute about his orders.
-
just as im not defeanding usopp ivotas
I never said that you are defeating Usopp. I just wanted to prove that what happened happened exactly because both of them gave their part. If only one would be wrong then the entire crew would have made that clear but it didn´t happen.
Besides I always say, if someone is acting like an asshole, the prove that you´re better then him instead of copying his behaviour. Usopp was as much an asshole in talking back as Luffy was in telling him about Merry. That´s what made that argument. Usopp already has traveled with Luffy for a long time. He knows him and he should have know how to handle him. But he is not that mature enough to deal with Luffy´s style of argumenting here. That´s how it all happened.
what im saying why couldnt he just have told him whats happend and why they were switching ships i think that would have worked alot better than just saying im the captain and i say so.
Oh come on, that´s the whole point I´m trying to prove. This is Luffy. He always talks that way. He is a pirate captain and his crew consists of pirates. This isn´t a childs game. Why should he talk to Usopp as if he was a sissy girl? If Usopp wants to be a pirate then he should have taken it as a man.
and i dont have a job but i go to school and i question my teachers authority on a daily basis and when that happens we discuss it like intellegent people =)
That´s the point jackvance is trying to make. Try to talk to your teacher like Usopp did to Luffy by saying "don´t say I´ve decided like your a real captain". I´m really curious how your teacher would react if you yell at him "don´t act like a real teacher" or something.
