Why are people even debating this. Oda's idea is probably that magma is more "solid" then fire, and would be able to snuff it out or somesuch.
This isn't about what has the possibility of being hotter in the real world.
well some people need to rationalize things,, thats why i like OP…
Like I thought, you have no idea what you
re talking about and throw out words you don't understand. If you
re going to try to act smart, next time do it on something you actually understand. You don't understand a thing about those chemical properties of magma, and then you ramble about "elemental composition". By the way, Wikipedia doesn't go into extensive explanations about the elements/compounds that magma is composed of either, they just list them, your link is useless.Really? Do you not see how redundant it is to call something molten rock and then say "lava is molten rock + rock"? Are you that dumb? You just wikipedia searched and tried to explain yourself because you decided to add "rock + soil" to lava because you assumed it picks those things up as it flows, don't act like you were referring to its crystallization.
I have to go do some work, but enjoy your discussion on "physics" and how it pertains to a fictional story about a rubber man.
"lava is molten rock + rock"
i said magma + rock which i think is right as of wiki. and i said it because basically it does accumulate what it rampage through. i didnt explain like an expert you are pretending to be. i said it plain and clear, what is said there.
useless as it is i think it has more ideas about the subject that you.
as said previously, its not physics, as you said it much more than anyone here.
I save you some trouble don't ever use the anime when you are talking about the manga.
aren't they the same? its the same series.
lol @ the magma vs. fire debate using real life facts and science.
Anyway I'm going to guess the way WB dies is by his own doing. He'll capsize all of marineford like a ship would capsize. A quake so powerful ppl won't know up from down and then many marines will escape on battle ships as the pirates flee. WB will drown regretting he couldn't save his son, reminisce something about Roger and Shiki, his original crew, and some other sappy shit.
I say this happens like 5-7 chaps from now.
And I'll ask since I'm not sure, chap next week?
I don't really know about the whole scientific thing to Magma X Fire. But I always take elemental feature in OP with a grain of salt (lots of it). Its very simple concept actually. Just like Rock - Paper - Scissors. Paper beats rock just because it wraps over it??? WTF??? But still. Thats the rule, so when Oda says Magma > Fire. Than thats that
aren't they the same? its the same series.
yes, and no in certain aspect, they add and remove stuff in the anime which is in the manga….
This is like the rubber x lightning thing once again.
I save you some trouble don't ever use the anime when you are talking about the manga.
Except that he was talking about this scene, which goes exactly the same in both manga and anime.

yeah, its plain and simple… its oda's rule.

well, i hope anime dont let ace live. it would certainly destroy the momentum.
what happens if lava gets heated up a notch by fire? :ninja:
Huh? What's the big deal? Manga burns hotter than fire and magma consumes fire, nothing wrong about that.
And it's nothing like the lighting vs. rubber thing, because rubber is simply immune to lightning and doesn't swallow it.

Yeap. Oda is the law himself

wil it go back to being magma?

it becomes a slightly hotter lava
Look were not looking at the big picture here guys….what about Pandaman in all this? I think Oda is using all this ace/wb dying business to avert our attention away from the true mastermind behind every major event in one piece.
Man this is the typical genius that Oda is known for….get ready for the Pandaman Arc coming up right after this one…gonna be a bumpy ride
what do you guys think of this

Yeah, but maybe you missed the endless, pointless debates over it.
Now when are they going to start selling AKAINU KILLED ACE t-shirts?
Yeah, but maybe you missed the endless, pointless debates over it.
Yes, i did. I just woke up.
wil it go back to being magma?
it becomes a slightly hotter lava
a dead Ace…......... LOL i kid i kid
i accept both answers LOL
Gaiz, manga is like something totes seriuz so we shud have page after page debating whether or not magma can overcome fire ffff-
Seriously though, why are we even giving a carp? It's not like Oda can say "Oh, sorry! Pretend the last two chapters never happened due to fan logic!". XD
So basically, long story cut short, the 'One Piece-verse logic' goes like this: a) magma is stronger than fire, b) Akainu can handle his Logia abilities better than Ace, c) prolonged exposure to seastone weakened Ace's Logia abilities somewhat or d) those combination of reasons all at once or some others that I cannot think of.
Let's just take it that Akainu bested Ace, fullstop. Personally I tend to take fantasy stories with a grain of salt.
So. Nat's feelings and thoughts about this chapter:
…I feel so very very sorry for Luffy. The flashback where Ace is promising him that he won't die is so damn sad. I felt kind of depressed after reading it. Okay, scratch that actually. I was extremely depressed. >.>
Looking forward to see what happens next. Maybe Oda will have some flashback scenes of when Ace and Luffy were kids. I'm particularly interested about this Sabo-thingamajig Ace mentioned.
Or whatever really. xD It's how Oda decides to deliver the rest of what is to come that counts.
(Late post is super late. >[ )
Lava goes back to being magma when it streams back into the earth.
With all the unmolten rocks and the cracks with magma in 'em, Akainu really is a magmaman rather than a lavaman, in fact we haven't really seen any lava in One Piece so far… oh well, maybe on Little Garden.
I can't wait to see what the next chapter will bring us:
1: Luffy goes in a catatonic state unable to do anything and is rescued by someone (Boa) while Whitebeard start pwning marines.
2: Luffy goes SSJ ( sort of :) )
3: Luffy goes unconsious and we have a timeskip to after the war.
I'm betting one of those will happen :)
just hope garp would go all out and kill akainu…
Well Akainu really need one big punch into his face… BUT... He should be defeated once and for all by Luffy in the future and not now.
Maybe he will eb the first one to be killed by Luffy
just hope garp would go all out and kill akainu…
I just hope Akainu kills Garp for being a traitor. :ninja:
I pictured Luffy vs. Akainu mano-a-mano in the future as the best solution, with Luffy telling him "I'm not a rookie anymore, like that helpless me back then…" and with Akainu knowing it and seeing this in his expression.
Current Luffy wouldn't kill him nonetheless, but who knows about future Luffy... that's what makes Ace's death so great!
Luffy will punch through Akainu with gear 3 haki punch and break his back and smash his internals… and Akainu will be killed
Luffy: One down Nii-san...
More important how Sengoku will hold important meetings with garp and Akainu in one room
More importantly, will Luffy get a new vest colour? :)
Great chapter - like it needs to be said. I'll skip the whole magma vs. fire debate, since it seems like one of those things that people will still be arguing about in 15 years. There's no need to really dissect something like that in a manga where people do impossible things all the time. It's just Oda's world - if you read the SBS he tends to answer serious questions like that with a joke.
I remember him responding to the question "How far can Luffy stretch his limbs? Surely he must have a limit, as rubber can't stretch forever." with something like this:
"Ah, of course! You're right! Naturally he has a limit. 300 Mega-gomus. What's that? How much is a mega-gomu? Well it's obviously 1,000 gomus."
Anyway, I was really impressed with how Jimbei and the WB Commanders jumped into action to give Ace time - even if it was just to say something to Luffy. These guys are the most BRO Pirates since the Strawhats (that we've seen - I'm sure Roger's crew was up there.) And it was nice to see that Akainu isn't your typical overconfident bad guy - he realized that things had become a lot more complicated once Marco and Vista showed up using Haki. I'd describe him as being just as confident as he should be for his abilities.
Don't forget that Whitebeard called him "Magma Brat". Heh, maybe screwing with Squad's head to the point of betrayal and killing Ace was all because Old Man WB told him to go light a birthday cake.
Predictions for the future? I can only venture a guess - we've closed the curtain on Part 1 and Part 2 will begin with Luffy meeting Dragon finally. For a while, it becomes less about reaching Raftel ASAP and more about gathering the Strawhats again and Luffy deciding what's really important. I personally find it very unlikely that a guy as passionate and determined as Luffy is going to just shrug this off and forgive the World Government - especially the Admirals (Akainu most of all) - or even Sengoku. Blackbeard is certainly going to be on his hitlist too. All of those guys have massive beatings coming to them, express shipping.
What Luffy needs right now is to meet his Father - his real, blood family for once - and reunite all of his friends with a common purpose.
Alright, that's enough. I'll wrap this up and go listen to the Podcast.
Vote Akainu for Fleet Admiral
"JUST MELT IT"
Oda started destroying his beloved manga
Maybe he had an idea for another manga and want to end this one
Or maybe as i said before he's kidnaped and forced to draw this shittig die of ace
What are you talking about… seriously stop posting BS
The death scene is praised everywhere and Oda made an epic twist now an built something great now for the future...
Seriously... go and read bleach
after lookin thru alot of possible outcomes ive decided to post the one that seems the most ODAish to me
After the shit that luffy just took with his brother dying he goes SSJ succeeds to some degree(obv not enuf) WBs crew and the marines watch in shock of his raw and untapped power (will of D theory comin =X) boom he faints from overexertion -get taken somewhere to learn control of his power
heres where the timeskip falls into place-All the previous talk of his final arc as a 17 year old comes true as we are shown pictures of marine HQ recovering from WB attacks and the world reaction to it (throwing in a 3-6month time skip here MAX )over the past few months (include in this luffys recovering time and throw in a scene of dragon smiling his son shit on the WG so bad)
along with this we see luffy in newer more epic clothes (KAME insignia FTW)
now setting out for rayleigh
all else is open for discussion and yes i see tons of shit that seems less than plausible in this too but this is Oda here :ninja:
What are you talking about… seriously stop posting BS
Just because you don't like what he says it doesn't mean his opinion is automatically bullshit. Ok, he exaggerates a bit with the kidnapping part but overall I can feel where the guy is coming from. To me this arc had a foul taste several times already but this very chapter is by far the worst thing I've ever seen coming out from Oda's pen. It doesn't have anything to do with mindless hating I just really have the impression that Oda is losing his Mojo lately.
OK here me out this time iam on to somthing…
Now manny people are talking about luffy getting a power-up, now if he does because of anger then his is getting cheasy like bleach ( i hate the fact the ichigo "dies" all the time and some how gets stronger) so i think Oda is better than that now my conclution is that becasue Luffy and Ace have a special BOND and Ace died in Luffys arms something will happen with his "devil fruit" now i no many of people will try and flame me but please think about it like if luffy gets aces devil fruit like then rubber and fire luffy will be very powerful and probaly have anough power to beat ankiru (or at least inflict some damage on him, the reson for this is simply because Luffy has done F-all since shabondy archibelago (looseing to Kuma, maggellen,) and unable to save his crew mates , mr 2 and Ace. Luffy has a special bond with ace so i really think he will get his power
Also Fire is like a really good devil fruit to have i wont to see the elemental version of it like how enel went thunder element. After this war finishes with wat ever conclution luffy will most likly go see Dundan and train under him once agian to become strong and learn to control HAKI, his will also effect him as NO one major to him has died (like seriously Oda kills Ace but not PELLL??!!!) so Luffy will be much more serious in the second Part of the series
No, that won't happen. Being able to absorb someone's devil fruit power because they're dying and you love them sounds terrible.
Lawl, that would be akward <_<.
Nah, I just think it's gonna be a powerup for luffy where he learns haki. And maybe learning new gears ^^.
I'm more interested in the fact we saw Jinbei in the pannel and not Hancock. Hancock will not be a Nakama….
Oh well we also thought Ace wouldn't die xD. Oh well we shall see. I am looking forward to the AFTERmath of this fight 83
because some people are retarded
and feel the need to justify what happens in a comic in terms of real life physics
its just sad in my opinion
Not necessarly true, fiction or not, it needs to have some common sense or else people are bothered with it…
Lets say for instance Oda suddenly show us luffy who can use ice and fire bolts out of his ass...you would wonder how is it possible right?
Better one being, we know that if there is friction there is heat, therefor people get why Sanjis foot in manga sense becomes so hot (if we start doing physics we wouldnt be able to understand it...)
Its not about science its about common logic. And for me the most reasonable one is, Ace was solid on the impact and so he got burned...that comment Akainu made beforehand about superiority of magma above fire imo confused that common logic and caused a mess.
That is the reason I have said it then and will repeat it now, Oda needs to start explaining DF and haki fast, otherwise we ll be having comments in form of poo flying all over Arlong Park
I mwiss Him :(
16 Sorrows.
Let me explain to you guys, where magma is created from.
Our earth's inner core is presumably an alloy of mostly Iron and Nickle. Heat can go up to about 6000 degrees celsius, this is due to the extreme pressure, it is also solid.
Earth's outer core is made from the same substance, but due to the lesser pressure is in a liquid state. The temperature is about between 3000 - 6000 degrees celsius. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inner_core , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outer_core )
"In addition it is thought that some of the earth's heat continues to be produced by the radioactive decay of potassium-40, uranium-238 and thorium-232 isotopes."
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_there_n…earth%27s_core
Now, I'm not saying that Akainu is made of Iron or anything, but if and if he is a magma man, then perhaps his heat is not generated like that of Ace, the chemical oxydation of a carbonbased fuel.
No, perhaps his magma is created by nuclear fission at enormous amount of pressure, which is capable of creating heat of up to almost 6000 degrees celsius.
Now, I'm always against using real-life physics to explain things logically in comics. (especially manga) But if you guys wanna put it in this logical box, be my guest.
Or it could be Haki ofc. :P
On a side-note, say Ace was in his logia form, and the attack would have gone through him and wouldn't have harmed him? The attack would've killed Luffy for sure.
This is how it works, he sacrificed himself to save Luffy. Don't need to make up funny stories about how fire can burn.
iam wondering where ace`s DF ability will now show up…somewhere a new DF with the ability of fire has to grow.
iam interested if we see in the future a chara with this ability:blink:
I wouldn't think of it in terms of temperature. Magma is viscous and thus solid enough to extinguish a fire that is engulfed by it by lack of oxygen (besides the point that new fires would start on it's surface due to the extreme heat of the magma). And once the element is suppressed, a logia user (or the suppressed part) reverts to being flesh and can be affected normally by whatever touches him.
Ace's fire was probably weak against anything that could engulf him without getting consumed/vaporized, just as Croc's sand was weak against anything that could harden it.

No one can have more than 1 DF ability at the same time, no exceptions.
No one can have more than 1 DF ability at the same time, no exceptions.
Actually we dont know that, we just asume it based on a fairytale
Oh for god's fucking sake…
Look, which do you think would be hotter: setting your hourse on fire, or a volcano erupting right under your ass?
I'd sig this if I didn't already take all the space up. XD
Oda started destroying his beloved manga
Maybe he had an idea for another manga and want to end this one

I agree so much… This whole war was way too childish. We should have seen Luffy getting owned and not coming back from death for 100th time. Seriously, wtf was WhiteBeard doing? Buggy and Mr. 3 were way more helpful than him and Marco, he tossed some stupid marines in 2-3 screens and thats all. WTF, Oda?
And where the heck is Dragon? Exactly what kind of a "revolutionary" is he? Thats just the perfect chance for him and his army, yet he hides himself, what a worm!
Marco should have fought Akainu and Jozu should have fought Kizaru. They were perfectly matched opponents. Instead they got owned so funnily easy, I laughed my ass off. And Oda seems to have some problems with designing characters, I hope he gets over with it soon.
Damn, I'm pissed as hell, what a disappointment! Still, One Piece is by far the best manga of its time, so whoever is going to nickname me a naruto or bleach fanboy, can... yeah, you know what.
I can't help but wonder if there's not a way to revive ace at this point. There was "still life in him" right after. Alright, almost everyone thinks he's dying/dead (and the chapter's titled "Ace's death"!). But Iva has shown she's pretty good as a doctor and shonen mangas characters keep "pushing their limits" all the time.
I don't know if this would suck because of how much BS that would involve, or if it would be cool because I really wanted ace to be saved. I guess it would mostly suck. I'm waiting for the next chapter impatiently.

He's too dead to be revived without some sort of magical/BS reasoning. He is way too injured to be healed by any doctor and I doubt Marco can heal him either. Only way he comes back is if he for some reason never really died or some extremely bullshit angel comes down and tickles his balls and he suddenly gets revived.
Actually we dont know that, we just asume it based on a fairytale
Blueno: something something "grand line scientists" something something explode.

Yeah, if Marco really could healed/revived Ace, someone would've, you know, told them of stop wasting their time in the middle of a WARZONE with their final farewells and get out of there ASAP.
Yes a fairytale…
