Sub Crocodile has class. He throws out two insults in that whole exchange. One as a tongue-in-cheek display to the townspeople to keep up the facade of the 'big bad pirate' who's actually a hero. (which also, was a facade). And the second as a final parting blow after displaying his clear superiority to the other pirate.

Dub Crocodile, on the other hand, has all the elegance of a 6th grader at recess.
Bully: "You're a stinky head!"
Dub Croc: "I'm a stinky head, huh? I don't think so. Idiot bully."

…...So that's what you deduced he sounded like after hearing FUNi's dialog. Really? 'Cause I can tell you right now that that's not AT ALL what I thought when I heard the dialog, and I can testify for most of the others who have seen that scene as well.

I can give you that he sounds more "raspy" than sub Crocodile. But the dialog is fine. Certainly not at "sixth grader" level, but if you've seen any 6th graders talk like that, enlighten me. 'Cause I would like to listen to that tale.

And I mean compared to the real dialog, not your phony one.

-Rightstuf.com is the best place to buy everything anime related, especially one piece sets.

The FUNimation dub isn't above criticism. There is a change in tone in the dialogue that's pretty evident.

Except that you're an idiot.

How good or bad 4kids Croc has nothing to do with how good Funimation Croc is. We've spent the past few pages talking about how this DVD set means that 4kids is no longer relevant to the DVD releases, so stop being one of the most obnoxious parts of the One Piece community. Better ≠ Good.

On that note, I don't think he's all that bad, but I would have preferred a slightly more classy presentation. It's a really difficult balance you have to find for a character like Croc though, so I think Funimation did a suitable job.

I disagree. As far as I know, Griffith has a LOT more experience in acting in more media than Ryan does. It's just a different take on the voice. In fact, it's not his fault at all, it's how he's directed. I think people give Ryan a bit too much credit. "Watch out. You're gonna crash. Aaah!" But I do agree that Jason made Usopp in the 4Kids dub quite unlikeable.

And if I didn't know any better, I wouldn't be able to tell Ryan and Jason apart.

Jason is a great Sonic. At least post-Secret Rings.

How I see it: Post-SatSR Griffith > Drummond > Pre-SatSR Griffith

Charagon, I'm not getting what kind of "class" you were expecting from Crocodile. The man is a sadistic, arrogant prick, and a crime lord. The Japanese dialogue gave no indication that he was using any sort of fancy, or high-class mannerisms in his speech, and dub Croc was obviously voiced in the style of a western idea of a crime boss. What crime bosses have you seen in American movies and TV that were classy? Because I don't remember Tony Soprano being very suave and debonair.

Who do you mean?

Tails has started to grow on me, as of Unleashed.
Knuckles and Amy have always been fitting.
Eggman is perfect.
Only people who are still "horrible" are the one-off characters like Chip, Jet, and Werehog.

This is totally off topic… but the point is that Jason Griffith's voice acting on Usopp was horrible. IMO I do not like his Sonic, Shadow, and other character voice overs, there's just no emotion on the characters, although it all might be for the simple cause that 4kids doesn't know how to direct people doing voice acting.

The last time 4Kids directed the Sonic X cast was in 2006. Sega handles it now, but uses 4Kids' studio to record.

My opinions on the abhorrent topic of Sonic VAs.
-Griffith has VASTLY improved, although I still prefer Ryan due to nostalgia, as well as him being slightly more excited. And of course, Jun'ichi Kanemaru with his Engrish Sonic is amazing.
-Amy Palant is a good actor, but makes Tails sound REALLY feminine. Then again, none of Tails' English VG Voice actors have been good. So yeah, Japanese voices FTW.
-Green really hams up Knuckles, makes him sound pissed to some degree in most of his lines, and sounds like 90% of his other roles. Which isn't a bad thing, just that it doesn't really fit Knuckles. Scott Drier did a pretty cool Knuckles, though.
-Lisa Ortiz is decent
-Neither VA of Cream is that good, but the 4Kids one is slightly more annoying. Again, Japanese Voice FTW
-David Humphery as Shadow sounded PERFECT with a T. Jason is good enough, but maybe makes the voice sound a bit too emo. Then again, Shadow should have died at the end of SA2 anyway, so we shouldn't be talking about him in the first place.
-And finally, Rouge's 4Kids VA makes her sound like a 35 year old whore. The original voice was decent, but not great. Again, Japanese voice is best.

But yeah, back on topic, did anybody notice that when Luffy's saying the "WE'RE YOUR FRIENDS" line, the volume of his voice is lowered to the point where you can't really hear it? It's sort of annoying that a sound mixing error got into the DVD's, but the ep was still great.

I just re-watched Luffy Vs Enel Dubbed just to see J. Michael Tatum's Take on him again. It was godly, no pun intended.

It's so nice finally having a good dub!

Also, about the very next set. My YT account has been unblocked, so I can start uploading clips again. I know to get The Gum Gum Storm, that's a given.
Anything else people want me to get?

The fansubbers' translation was more appropriate, since in Japan it's WAY out of line to talk down to your superiors.

Viz was incredibly tame, but we're used to that.

The release date is March 18th. I suspect the earliest anyone will get it will be the week of 2/22 - 2/26, and that's pushing it. Mikey may get it that time, and all of us Rightstuff preorderers will start receiving ours in the first week of March, more or less.
