A stab wound and a serious health condition that has weakened him considerably over the years. As evidenced by him being unable to fight in this chapter due to it kicking in.

Yeah, I see it now. Even still, Luffy's island is huge compared to most of the Grand Line islands, and even Usopp's, which is fairly small, had another town on it, so it's probable there's one or two more towns than Windmill village there where Ace could've trudged around.
By the way, that Huge island extending from South Blue to the Grand Line… how come no one's mentioned that? If there's really an island like that, that's an easy way into the Grand Line...

I'm a little surprised more of you guys don't have similar sentiments since a lot of you(not necessarily you) thought when this war was going to go down that you'd get some definitive winners and loser, clearer ranks of tiers, and a showing of Luffy that he's among the best, etc.
Instead like I expected and said Oda's walked that fine line of just having start up fights, show off a few attacks and by the next chap the two ppl who were once fighting are on other sides of the battlefield only to get in to another one on one that won't last for long.
So even tho I expected these fights to go the way they have so far they aren't the greatest and could be better but I think all of us came in to this war knowing Oda wasn't gonna kill anyone but WB (and maybe Ace) and he wasn't gonna kill any of his other beloved characters or kill their character by having them be defeated by anyone.
If anything Luffy's been looking like the biggest loser so far but ofcourse that's excused cuz he's the main character /rookie/still getting stronger and by the assumption that he might be doing better if he didn't waste his time doing all that fighting in ID.

Never said it wouldn't be possible. I'm quite sure that there's more towns on Luffy's island.

I've mentioned it back then when I've first shared this photos. Back then I expected Marine HQ to be on this island since it would rule out that anybody but those guys that can already pass the Calm Belt could use an easier route into the Grand Line. Apparantly I was wrong.
But anyways, how many sailors would really use such a route to get to the Grand Line? It's by far the largest island we've seen this half of the Grand Line. I mean Arabasta already struck as one of the larger islands on the Grand Line no matter which island on those maps Arabasta is supposed to be, it would still be tiny in comparison. So you can imagine how long a journey it would be to get from South Blue to the Grand Line that way. That's not to say nobody would do it but I doubt that sailors would really be into thise things.
There's also the possibility that the environment simply doesn't allow for an easy access to the Grand Line that way. Anyways, I hope to see it explained at some point. Oda isn't not the kind of guy to make such a sloppy mistake here.

Same reason you can't go backwards n reverse mountain to get to Raftel immediatley.
Calm belts, sea kings, and log poses. You need to start from the beginining for the magnetisim and setting of the next island to work.
And anyone that couldn't take the start of the grand line would not do well that far into it anyway.

You don't need necessarily to do the islands in order to proceed. The Strawhats got cockblocked at Little Garden (Since there was a year log set time) and basically sailed around lost (because Nami got sick) and Luffy refused Robin's help (at the time). They found Drum Kingdom completely by accident, and then got to Arabasta by the Eternal Pose Sanji found.
As for the seakings and the calm belts, that was my point. it's an Island that starts in South Blue, and extends the entire length of the Calm Belt to the center of the Grand Line. Considering there were several cities on Sandy Island and it's nowhere near the size of that one, there has to be a couple cities on this massive island. It would be a land trip across the island to the port town on the Grand Line side, and boom, you're in.
As Ivotas suggested, it could be under military lockdown, however, or be impassable terrain.
I called it wrong, so long ago. I guess this needs to be changed.

they actualyy got a loc pose from the mr.13 and miss friday …
than nami got sick and they noticed that nearby has to be a winter island cause it was getting colder and colder(vivi described that they have to be near a winter island)
so finding it on exident isn`t the case...they more likely were lucky to have a island that near around.

I imagine if Ace gets free, Whitebeard, his crew, and his allies are just going to haul ass out of there ASAP.

for my taste way to less asses were kicked so far..
some charas like jozu and marco can`t be defeated now, cause they had so far near to no screentime and still those DF they have, need some more action scenes or else they would be wasted..

it isnt the creativity oda uses for his DF so far..so that shows me that they cant go down now, cause they still have to show a lot

after reading this chapter, I actually sort of want Luffy to succeed, considering if Ace dies, we'll probably see an emo Luffy for years to come. and that would essentially just be an ace clone, which no one wants.

We might get spoilers this week actually, but its hit and miss every year for early-early leaks. Last year we got the second double issue spoilers 2 weeks early (or the week following the previous double issue leak) but didn't get a raw till the normal release time. Basically we are getting a single chapter of One Piece within these next 3 weeks. When it comes out it comes out, but we won't get a new one other than that till like January 14th or so next year.
