Also, I suspect it's a woman, and Garp's lover (and thus, Luffy's Grandmother). Otherwise, why would Garp just have a friend living in the Mountains near a hole in the wall town on the East Blue side of the Red Line like Windmill Village.

Remember, there are no gender pronouns in Japanese, so Garp never specified if his "friend" (Dadan) was male or female.

This chapter shows Ace in a town/city much different than Foosha/Fuchsia Village. Not to mention we know Fuchsia is a small village. Or how come Luffy had to be taken to live with Dadan and Ace, and furthermore (apparently) didn't know who they were? Doesn't add up to me. To me living in the mountains strikes as a valid assumption considering Makino's statement in chapter 0. I just gave me the impression since Garp needed to return to his duty so he most probably went to the mountains to meet Dadan and leave Ace in his/her custody (sp?).

dadan shouldnt be related to luffy..maybe dadan is related to garp but i think more in a friendship way, cause who would say to his woman..cmon raise that child to a taff fighter in the woods ….well by this family we never know

Well forests tend to grow on mountains too, no? Also a mountain is pretty much a good spot to have a look at the ocean no? I mean, I know that panel 1-2 on this page looks as if the environment could be near the shore. But at the same time it could be a high mountain view of the ocean don't you think so? I think it's possible.

That's not to say that the town is too far away BUT I don't think it's close either because I would expect that Garp would have entrusted Rogers son to some sort of hermit that likes to live isolated rather than someone that frequents with a lot of people.

Fair point. But it's also possible that people went to Dadan in order to complain about his brat beating up the towns hoodlums. Also of course it wouldn't be too far away in order for Ace to get there. What I'm talking about is the concept of living in the mountains being a space of privacy in the way that even if you can see the town from up there and it isn't that far away by geometric distance it is actually far away in your own mental map.

It's hard to explain it actually, but I've witnessed that with my grandparents. Both my fathers and my mothers parents lived on the countryside not too far away from the town (my mothers parents even lived on a mountain^^). In fact going to the town and back from their houses by foot wasn't a large geometric distance at all. Sometimes I've wandered those ways several times a day. It was really nothing. Yet, to my grandparents the town seemed to be a place very far away they've visited very rarely and only if they really must. Whenever they said "I'm going to the town" it was as if they would prepare to go on a long journey. It was just their way of living.

And somehow I expect a similar situation to be the case for Dadan. Not too far away from the town but definitely a safe distance for him to enjoy his privacy

According to the Color Walk East Blue Map, Windmill Village is actually on the Red Line in East Blue. That said, it's not impossible that Dadan's Residence is situated between two different towns, one being the smaller Windmill and the other being the town we saw Ace wandering around in. Higuma had never been to Windmill Village before, so it's probable that the Mountain range extends fairly far. Even in Syrup Village, which was on a small Island according to the color walk, there was another town nearby, referenced by Merry regarding the glasses Kaya had specially made for Kuro. Also, Gosa and Cocoyashi (and Arlong Park itself, for that matter) were within a relatively short distance of each other on Nami's island.

So, that's probably the simple answer here.

Well, I looked back, and it appears Oda contradicts himself in a way, but I guess it isn't a big deal. He initially explains the power via Brook. Later on, however, there additional comments that imply strength coming from the shadow. The Rolling Pirates, for example, give a slightly different explanation than Brook did. At one point, it is crystal clear that all the physical strength come from the host, while all the skills and personality come from the shadow. Nightmare Luffy and Shadow's Asgard contradict that though, I think. Anyway, here are a few lines…

Brook: Their personality and fighting prowess belong to the owner of the SHADOW. But the zombie's physical power depends on the mario's musculature. The stronger the body and the stronger the shadow, the stronger the zombie soldier their combination will create. That is why Moria seeks the shadows of bountied pirates.

I don't see any contraction. Brooke was talking about zombies. Luffy is a still living person. Its reasonable to assume Zombies wouldn't get a power increase because it takes more energy just to keep them animated. Luffy is already alive so all the strength simply gets added to his own.

Penguin Sanji is the only oddball from TB. Even that can be explained that that zombie takes little energy to animate and with Sanji being so strong it gets a straight power increase.

No it's not. The Color Walk Map of East Blue has zoomed too much in so that you miss the fact that Fooshia Village is actually located on an island. Here's maps with a more distant perspective:

As you can see, the CW Map does show a pretty limited view of East Blue. You don't even see Loguetown or Reverse Mountain on it.

Unless of course it is right inside Reverse Mountain and can only be accessed trough a path that opens only once every 20+ years, which would be why only Roger found it so far.

I was speaking of it happening near instantaneously, meaning he wouldn't be able to help Ace much.
