Greg, was there any moment(s) where Shiki thought how similar Luffy is to Roger (like many who knew Roger have done)?
ONE PIECE: MOVIE 10 ~ Strong World
-
-
@Battle:
Just to add -
It took 400 million yen from 188 cinemas beating out the recent Harry Potter movie's first day. It's one of the biggest openings for a Toei distributed movie EVER, since ''otoko tachi no yamato" (Men of Yamoto) in '05, also one of the large advance ticket sales for a Toei movie ever with 296,449 over a 6 day period.
Theatre owners have rushed to open more sessions to meet demand, with more late night sessions, and GET THIS it has already eclipsed the total gross of nearly EVERY One Piece movie to date all on one day.
JUGGERNAUT BITCH!
Okay, that is news.
-
Now is the time when I curse that I am not in Japan right now, watching this movie for the fifth time instead of eating for a week.
@ZeArmyOfHalen:
And how they came up with "nosebleeds" when that (well, not that I know of) doesn't even happen.
I've seen it happen with my own eyes.
Funny as hell, I tell you. I could barely believe it.
-
Greg, was there any moment(s) where Shiki thought how similar Luffy is to Roger (like many who knew Roger have done)?
! Yes and no. Similar? I dunno if he actually said similar, but at the end, he was devastated that this was the SECOND time he was losing to a man from East Blue.

Strong World beat Ponyo and Harry Potter…and shattered some more records.
@Anime:
One Piece Film Strong World, the 10th One Piece anime film, opened with 1.038 billion yen (about US$11.7 million) this past weekend . By comparison, Ponyo took in 1.025 billion yen (US$11.55 million) during its opening weekend last year. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opened on 844 screens in Japan this year with 990 million yen (US$11.2 million).
One Piece Film Strong World opened on 188 screens throughout Japan. 68 of those screens had sold-out showings throughout the weekend. The film's per-screen average was 5.52 million yen (US$62,200) — the record for a nationwide release in Japan.
On the first day, the film made 553 million yen (US$6.24 million), and it made 485 million yen (US$5.47 million) on the second day. In all, the film was seen 820,000 times. Part of the reason for the huge audiences was the One Piece Volume 0 manga that was given to the first attendees. Toei has decided to add another printing of 1 million copies.

Aren't you happy that Greg's here? Not only does he know the news before ANN, he knows the reasoning behind the news before them too.
-
So, Movie 10 is to Japan what Spiderman 3 is to the U.S.? Or am I missing something here?
-
I finally got to see the movie today (mainly because every showing close to where I live has been sold out, and I didn't have an easy way to pre-buy a ticket). Where else but Japan will you see a sold out showing of an animated movie early on a Monday afternoon when the main target audience is in school (or supposed to be - I saw quite a few high schoolers that were probably skipping class to see it). It is definitely the best OP movie in my opinion, and it greatly exceeded my expectations except for one very annoying character.
! Was it really necessary for Dr. Indigo to pass gas every single time he took a step? I could have accepted it if it was just in one scene, but it happened every time he showed up and got old very quickly.
! EDIT: Thanks to Greg for clarifying that it was just the sound of his footsteps, not actual farting. My Japanese is only good enough to understand about 70% of the dialogue. At any rate, the sound is still annoying and almost ruined a couple of scenes for me, but maybe it's just me. Still that's the only real complaint I have about the movie, since I am not one to mind suspending disbelief in animated movies. It was also great that they printed more Vol. 0's, otherwise I probably would have missed out on it. Anyway, if you are in Japan and haven't seen it yet, I would suggest going as soon as you can. For the rest of you, good luck waiting patiently for a raw.
-
Holy shit, to outdo Harry Potter's opening like that with significantly less theaters is crazy.
I'd hate to imagine how crowded the showings are.
-
Interesting review Greg . I was hoping for a bigger marine involvement but whatever .
I do wanna know what kind of movie 11 turns out to be . I dont know how they could top this .
Also , does anyone else seem to not be able to make an apostrophe or copy any text from this page into the reply window ?
-
greg,
thanks for all the stuff you did for us fanboys. i just have a quick question regarding the film. did shiki or luffy display any haki-based attack or was there any incidence of haki-use, whether accidental or not?
thanks.
-
Guys…
1rnye7_FeIQ
SHIT JUST GOT REAL.
-
-
Shiki's Fruit question!!
! He can't levitate living things, can he levitate himself only by the swords?if so, how could he get to the heights that he needed to taunt Hanybal in chapter 0?
-
-
Sakura Destiny:
! He wasn't farting, those are the sounds of his footsteps. Shiki said that when he first showed up.
Fanservice:
! Nope! Despite a Belly Match card with Movie 10 Luffy that states a Haki attack, there are no signs of Haki in the film.
Maxter:
! He was wearing clothes though ;)
-
greg,
! That's kind of odd. For him to be able to pick a fight against a younger Garp and Sengoku as well as Roger himself and not display any haki-abilities against Luffy is a huge plot hole if the film is indeed canon. Even if 20 years have passed, I still can't fathom how Luffy can just defeat him w/o any haki-based attack of some sort.
! But then again, that would spoil how Oda would progress Luffy's abilities in the manga.thanks for answering the question.
-
yea.. i'm kinda pissed of how easy luffy beat shiki… He's one of the legends.. legends shouldn't have lost too easy to rookies.. even if the rookies is our beloved hero.
im kinda hoping an ending where shiki steps back behind the mist and dissappear again and not to get a KO hit.. with a stupid face and all
but that would be weird too...maybe after knowing who luffy really is and see the potential behind him as having a blood of a really strong man, which is dragon or roger himself.. he then put a light smile, and while licking his bleeded lips.. he quickly step dissappear the shadow XD
but after think again, shiki isn't the type of elegant criminal at all.. it doesn't suit him..
2nd possibility.. luffy find out shiki's weakness.. or something like the anti-electricity against eneru or the blood thing against croc...
and then it wouldn't be too strange that luffy could "finally" beat him....
-
Well, there's a certain reason Shiki might not be able to control things as well as he normally would, but still, it's takes a bit of suspension of disbelief.
Again, that's me watching it as a 26 year-old. Not a kid. If I was watching it as a kid I'd be going bonkers.
-
WHA….. what a line.... ^^;
but if I was living in Japan, I would be standing at the line too I guess XD -
cant wait for the movie! 1 billion yen on its debut weekend is crazeh!
greg: Is japan THAT strict on copyright laws? surely you wouldnt go jail just from a small camera clip? and i doubt they could prove it was you who done it anyway so i wouldnt worry :)
-
greg~ first of all i want to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH for all the information you provided to us, we really appreciate everything!
u know,i was compare this movie to Hayao Miyazaki's masterpieces, lol~and my question is how long does the movie take, i mean the running time of the movie?
thank you again!
-
110 minutes. Stated many times already.
-
Looks at BO numbers, sees the waiting lines,
Holy Crap, just holy crap, that is all. I mean we all expected it to do well but no one expected this.
-
other anime movies of one peace wasn't a bit thrilling comparing to the manga for me
maybe this one will be differentasking again but where this shiki-luffy fight is located in timeline comparing to ace rescue attack of white beard, how long before or after ace incident
-
Looking at how many people went to go see this movie, there HAS to be ONE person who filmed it…cmon ONE PERSON!!!!
I check everyday for a leak....and I hope it comes real soon.
-
**Even if they did film it, the quality would probably be shit.
Just meditate under a waterfall and wait for the DVD to come out, it should be well worth the wait. I hope.**
-
As of the past year the quality of camera rips has gone up alot, I found one of Ponyo I couldn't tell at all was a cam version until some people stood up in front of the camera. And the one that came out for FMA a few years back was semi-decent. Now if the camera rip was off of someone's cellphone then yeah, it would be really bad.
I'm not gonna be heartbroken if I have to wait until a dvd rip is out, or Funimation brings it over here. If it's as great as everyone is claiming it to be, it will definitely be worth the wait to see it in higher quality.

Aw, that sounds good ^__^ hopefully the someone will record the movie with this quality ._.'

I don't want to wait until the dvd is out as well, because as far as I know it will release in japan march 2010 and that does take much to loooong x_X x'D
-
Well, if we do find a good quality camera rip-off I'd be happy to watch that.
-
… That's only 3 months away.
And who knows, we could get lucky and Funimation could announce they intended to release an english version of the movie, which could come as fast as a bit after the Japanese DVD release. It's a bit of wishful thinking, but it could happen.
-
come on! funimation! you got to be keep your eyes on this movie~
becasue this movie is special~
movie 8 and 9 those ain't movie just recap~
we count on you!by the way… what it is wrong with yibis? they haven't update for long time~~
-
@sheng:
becasue this movie is special~

we count on you!Movie 9 is a horrible "recap", considering how much it changes.
-
First off, thanks alot Greg for all the information you've given us about the movie and that cool vid of going to watch it. ^^
Secondly, at this rate, Movie 10 will soon be in my top 3 OP movies. Movie 6 and 9 being the current top 2 and Movie 2 barely keeping the third spot. XD As for Funimation bringing it over…I'm all for that, but I'd like them to maybe release Movie 9 first since we just got Chopper's arc in the anime in English, and then they can go back and start releasing the older ones. What I still hope for is a movie screening (soon followed by an eventual DVD release) in America of Movie 10 (even in limited theaters), I'd definitely look it up and try to go see it! ^^
-
i actually compare movie 10 with Hayao Miyazaki's movies~ hahaha~
before it release to theater i really think maybe it can achieve to Hayao Miyazaki's level…
i know i am a bit crazy~if movie 10 is on the same level as Hayao Miyazaki's movies..then no doubt it will be on world wide theaters, because i really think one piece and Hayao Miyazaki's movies are somehow similar....
they all about fantasy~
they all take bits of pieces from those fairy tales stories and historical fantsy novels~
one piece actually contains the shadows from lots of old fairy tales~and to be honest, i really think one piece movies are much enjoyable than some of those disney animation movies~ don't you think?
how can those PG rating disney animation can release on worldwide theater and one piece movie can't?i know, because of the fame.
but with that been said, one piece is far from that kind of success yet, not even historical pokemon has this kind of success... none of those japanese animation series can achieve Hayao Miyazaki's legend, except "lupin III", it directed by Hayao Miyazaki~ lol~ that lucky bastard~yeah~ yeah~ i am still dreaming, don't plan to wake up~ lol~
-
I wish Movie 10 would be shown in our cinemas as well (Germany) but with the original synch xD German one isn't so bad, but I love the japanese voices ^^
And the newer Disney films really aren't good I think…I don't like all those 3D movies >_> But I really like the old ones :) Like Lion King xD hehe
-
sorry but movie 9 was shit, so much so that i actually havent finished watching it.
8 was just lol and i think number 6 was the last decent one piece movie to come out (especially since its so different). -

8 was just lol and i think number 6 was the last decent one piece movie to come out (especially since its so different).well~ at least movie 9's background music are so good though~
but in my opinions moive 8 and 9 are not moives, sort of like tv specials~ they just high quality recap~
i know a lot of japanese animation series likes to that too, like eva and dragon balls~ they all have the "recap movies" on some point. -
I wish Movie 10 would be shown in our cinemas as well (Germany) but with the original synch xD German one isn't so bad, but I love the japanese voices ^^
yeah i wish they'd at least show the movie at some cinemas .. i'd travel to another city to see it ^^''
but to be honest .. if they ever did that .. and they chose the german sub … i'd rather wait for the japanese dvd release.
the only movie i really loved was number 6 __ that one was great.
-
I only bothered to watch 8 because they have the funimation dub in Red Box. I need to see some of the other ones. I kinda wondered why they went and did movie 8 (the big alabasta recap >_>) dubbed in the first place…
Hopefully they'll go ahead and do this one as soon as they can, since it'll probably get the most attention of any of them. If its as good as it sounds the series might get more attention.
-

yeah~ i love lion king too for my childhood sake~ lol~
but to be honest, those disney animations are so childish~ only suitable for children~ and they can hit worldwide levels~ because of that, they gets the translation dubs from every country~ even the songs as well~sadly one piece movie can't hit worldwide… the premiere only in japan~ and we have to wait at least half year of times for the dvd torrent~~
by the way~ we are in 3D era now~

We could make a number of interesting fan theories about what is possible or what he was thinking, but it's still hard to swallow, especially considering what status he's supposed to have for instance:
! If he's a legendary pirate that had brass ones big enough to go fisticuffs with Roger, even if he was a bit crazy, he should be made of tougher stuff than to go into 'deer in headlights' over someone that's a tough enemy. Especially since he was basically owning Luffy to that point aside from a few punches here and there.
Again, I'm not cutting Oda any slack because I'm watching the movie as 'Greg the Adult' not 'Greg the Elementary Schooler' which is mean of me because he made the movie for kids but…he also writes the comic for kids too and it still manages to blow me away.
I'm probably the only person who will react to the movie this way and in a short while people will probably be saying, "Greg, what were you thinking?"
I calls 'em as I sees 'em.
Also, my wife as a casual fan said it was easily her favorite OP movie that she's seen so there you have it.
I agree with you! And that´s what I actually meant to ask in my last question, about how you think Oda handled Shiki´s legendary strength in his fight against Luffy…
But oh well, Oda probably already has an explanation for the SBS (I think somebody will ask the question, or are all Japanese fans "that blind"? =P)Thanks again for all the info ^_^

yeah~ movie 6 is some sort of creepy~ but it is so unique~
it responsed lots of the dark side of adventure and strawhat crew~
movie 6 told us the true terror in grand line and what it needs to take to survive in there~ actually this is what we always expect to see from the legendary grand line~ you know~ not always comedy and action pack fighting but some real true terrors!
that's why movie 6 is so unique!and it is so funny. becuase before i watch movie 6 i watched the trailer first, the trailer actually gave me the "beijing olympic ceremony" feel, the trailer showed all the strawhat crew members are playing, drinking, eating, having fun, fireworks all over the sky~ but nobody knows something horrify are going to happen, this is what we called "surprise!"

Can anyone find out what Japan's weekend box office gross was? I want to know how Strong World compared to the movies that opened in the US over the weekend.
Here are the weekend Box office ranks. No surprise, Strong World kicked ass! Now I just want to know how much the movie made over the 2 day weekend period. Opening day was record breaking but how much has it made overall? If anyone can find that information I will be eternally beholden to you. bow
-

The Alabasta arc was the one that occurred immediately before they took over syndication, so it makes sense to bring over a recapping of those events with the new cast.

SHIT JUST GOT REAL.
SWEET MERCIFUL CHRIST
This movie is absolutely running shit in Japan.
-
I kinda wondered why they went and did movie 8 (the big alabasta recap >_>) dubbed in the first place…
From what I heard, Toei pretty much forced them to.
-
toei gotta force them again for movie 10~
that would be way too nice~~ -

someone already said earlier. i made over 1 billion yen over the weekend beating harry potter and a ghibli movie. Funny thing is, it made more in 2 days than movie 9 did in total.
EDIT: found the link

Ahhhhh ok. that makes sense, I really don't keep up with the english releases at all. If I ever get the money I will, but I'll save off buying the dvds until they get to Water 7.
LOL and not too surprised this beat Ponyo, but the fact that it beat a Ghibli/Miyazaki film is pretty epic.
-
no another recap film, we don't want another recap~
water 7 in tv series are already good enough~
we want brand new imagination and fantasy for the movie adventures.
