The new episode is up.
-
GOD DAMN that last "oyaji" completely did me in. :cwy:
-
Wow Mato-san, Toei gave you two b-bombs AND an s-bomb?
Great episode, overall. I loved all four segments, and Lt. Stalker is hilarious. Hancock (and that little girl from last week) should really join the crew!! Oh, and Mr. Piccolo's been captured by the World Government!! Save him, Son Gohan!!
-
Zoro's segment made me laugh harder than Sanji's piece. That was not easy to do.
-
Kyaa!! She got him to BLUSH!!! XD Have we ever seen him do that in the current storyline (him at 12 doesn't count)?
Loved most except the bit with Brook… and Ace really sounded broken up. You just don't get that in the manga, folks.
EDIT: Wait, episode 318 with Zoro babysitting… just saw it on YouTube... but I don't know if that counts because it's filler, though what was in this episode was sort of filler-ish. Hmm... >_>
Oh yeah, and I was a little surprised at the language.
-
Okay, I am seriously ranking Zoro's story as number 1 and Brook's as number two.
This episode was awesome. VERY awesome. The best filler out of these 5. Art and animation was well-balanced, and both stories were well done and balanced between the two, unlike last episode.
Zoro's story is just as I suspected - Perona trying to enslave Zoro to do her bidding. I seriously lmao'd when Perona cuddled up on Zoro-Kumacy's (official spelling for the bear now?) stomach and he looked like he was going to cough up blood or something. What interests me more is that she seems to have a lonely side that she doesn't like to show. Maybe she will end up following Zoro back to the Straw Hats to escape the island?
As for Brook, while shorter than Zoro's, it was still just as good. The music was perfect for the scenes, and the way Brook lustly looked at the girl and then the music stopped when he asked for her panties was a good effect. I also lol'd when the men showed him there underwear. "Wow. The guy's don't need to show me there underwear!"
Now, back to present, we finally see all the scenes we've been waiting for. BUT, did anyone else notice a little BONUS?
Look closely at the assembling marines! Jonathon and his men from the G8 arc are there! Does that mean they will also be attending the war in the anime version?? If so, that is awesome for me, because he is one of the best filler villains. Maybe they could give him a little screentime in the war.
So a month of cannon then we turn back to filler. For those of you who don't know, for an entire month we will be seeing Movie 10 anime specials. I'm not sure if they tie into the Impel Down arc or are a seperate random time skip arc like with Bleach, but it should be interesting. It will feature Gold Lion and his involvement with ID.
-
Just watched the episode, both cover stories were really good, but the best part was the Hancock and Luffy scenes. Am I the only one who finds anime Hancock superior to manga Hancock

I don't know, but somehow I find Hancock's antics in the anime funnier than the manga, so you could be right about that.
-
I wonder, will the Impel Down arc's first handful of episodes before the Movie Ten Specials cover up to Luffy's defeat and treatment? It'd certainly be the best option, I think, but alas…
-
Hancock in this episode seemed more… her daydream this time was just kind of sad. I didn't like it as much as the others. The marine thinking Luffy's laugh was attractive was funny though.
I feel kind of bad for Perona after this. She's lonely. Three kinds of crazy, true, but lonely all the same. It really made her seem like a real person and made me enjoy her character a lot more. And the barrage of negative ghosts on Zoro helped too.
-
another episode that will have people changing their avatars with bear zoro. XD .peronoa is more likeable in this. she would make a good straw hat. brook fasination with women's undergarments will lead him back to the crew I just know it
-
@Yuugi's:

Nah, no way that's possible in just 4 episodes.
Read the spoiler to see which point it ends at before fillers:
! The first quarter covers from the start of Impel Down with Buggy and Luffy to the point when Magelen is introduced. Maybe Magelen starts talking to Hannybal about Gold Lion and how he was imprisoned before, being the only one to ever escape. It's possible and would make a nice prelude to what Luffy is about to do.
First quarter of Impel Down will last till November. Then from November to December the movie 10 specials will air, with Movie 10 premiering at the end of December in theaters. I'm psyched.
List of episode titles for those interested:
! 11.10. #421: The Crewmate's whereabouts: Negative princess and the Devils' King (Zoro & Brook)
! 18.10. #422: Intrusion with Death Risk! Underwater prison Impel Down (Chapter 525)
! 25.10. #423: Reunion in Hell!? The powerful User of the Bara Bara No Mi! (CHapter 526)
! 01.11. #424: Break through Crimson Hell! Buggys great Uproar Plan (Chapter 527)
! 08.11. #425: The Prison's strongest Man! Introduction of the Poison-Man Magellan (Chapter 528 )
! 11/15 426 Movie Special- The 'Gold Lion's' Ambition Moves Forward
11/22 427 Movie Special- 'Little East Blue' is Tartgeted
11/29 428 Movie Special- The Amigo Pirate Crew's Vicious Assualt
12/6 429 Movie Special- The Decisive Battle! Luffy VS LargoHancock in this episode seemed more… her daydream this time was just kind of sad. I didn't like it as much as the others. The marine thinking Luffy's laugh was attractive was funny though.

LOL at "Lieutenant Stalker". It sounds even more funny towards an English audience.
And yeah, I like Perona a lot more now somehow. It showed her in another light aside from her usual bratty self. A combination of cute, bitchy, dominating and vulnerability along with enough kindness to not let Zoro die somehow makes her more a more attractive character when you see her from all angles in a short period of time.

Just like Luffy's number one priority is food, Brook's is panties. He obviously places panties above his friends. xD

What exactly are these Movie 10 Specials I keep hearing about?
-
@Super-Franky:
What exactly are these Movie 10 Specials I keep hearing about?
Before the movie comes out there is going be a series of episodes that are meant to lead into it. Four, I think.
-
OH cool, the last movie special airs on my birthday. But i'll probably be at the casino gambling. Finally old enough to legally start my gambling addiction.
-
I liked the episode (despite the fact that FUNimation's Video Player was acting up and I ended up having to restart it a few times.)
The Zoro part was good. I didn't expect her to dress him up as the zombie bear. That was hilarious… And then the Brook part. Well once I knew where it was going (when Brook spotted the girl) I laughed.
And then the canon was really interesting. Glad we're finally able to move ahead now! (not saying that I didn't enjoy seeing the Straw Hats. Given the future events I've been hearing about it sounds like we won't be seeing them for a long time.)
-
Alright, I saw the episode. And it was good!
Hancock's fantasies are getting a little sad, but at least we saw the return of pimp Luffy! Zoro and Perona was so funny; I can't wait to see Sabat do that part. Brook's part was short, but it was good though.
"Um….I don't need to see the guys' underwear.... Wow." xD
Ace sounded weird and I thought Tashigi was colored wrong.
But next week is Impel Down and Buggy! So I'm pumped!

Well of course Ace is going to sound weird. He's locked in a hellish prison where he's been beaten and treated harshly. A person sounds different when they're in severe pain.
I can't wait to hear the Funi version of Zoro's part either. Can't wait for next week either.
-
Anyone know if they are doing more chapters per episode?
-
No it's one chapter per episode again.
Overall this will be just fine. Remember, there was so much packed into each chapter during this arc. I would say only for the fights they should do 1.5 or 2 chapters, but up until then one chapter is perfectly fine. I would honestly like to see a little stretching out of each level and Buggy's antics.
-
Why are they doing that though? Isn't the manga an arc ahead of ID? We don't need anymore filler, and things will go at a sluggish pace like they did in Amazon Lily.
-
Not by much, and ID is a pretty short arc.
-
I thought the pacing was pretty good at AL, excluding the arena moments. It's better than most episodes animated in the past.
-
I'd like to see if the anime incorporates anything that Oda might have cut from the comic run of Impel Down ('cause that arc was speedy)!
-

More than likely they will. Should be interesting.

Is 401 still available to watch online?

I'm pretty sure. They haven't removed any of the episodes.
-
Not to open them cans of worms, BUT.
Got a little tired of the whole FUNi did this that and the other thing wrong shtick, so I went straight to someone that would probably know more about this than me.
Or could at least ask for me.
@FUNi:
The term “Second Gear” is on the approved term list we received from Toei. The licensor decides how terms are used in a show.
So, at least, it's not a fault by FUNi.
Just idiots from Toei.

Yeah, and when the whole Haki thing happened, Mato told us that because the Simulcast is of episodes FUNi doesn't have a contract for yet, Toei gets final Say and FUNi doesn't really have a leg to stand on for getting things changed back (Like Zolo getting fixed)
The situation on the DVDs for all this stuff will probably be different, especially since Luffy's mouth moves like this when he Activates Gear 2nd. "Gi-a… Pause... Se-kan-do"
It would look REALLY weird trying to fit "Se-cond... Gear" into that. -

Maybe. I've asked about subs and the dub for clarification - mebbe I should've mentioned it as the DVD subs and dub instead.
This should at least take off some people's cry of "FUNI DID THIS WRROOOONG" because I was sick of the unfoundedness.
-
But people already have the torches and pitchforks.
-

well, now they can find fun places to stuff 'em
-
Whether or not FUNi uses these changes or not, that's not a legitimate reason to stop watching it. I'm not saying anyone here has said this, but I'm saying this in advance for those angry enough to stop supporting.

Nobody's truly angry enough to stop supporting this over that, they're just trying to find excuses to go back to their HD fansub downloads.
-
Of course, it's not a legitimate reason, but people HAVE dropped FUNi's simulcast because of things like Haki and Second Gear.
I just can't remember who are the whiners and who actually did this, so I won't name names.
Except that they are whiners.
-
"They?" I thought it was gets shot
-
They're all whiners no matter the end result.
I don't discriminate.
-
@dirt:

This is why dirt monkey AL rocks. Sort of.
-
you're not whining are you
-
I can't say "Second Gear" bugs me a whole lot but it's nice to know that there's a decent chance that it'll be fixed for the DVDs. Not that it would stop me from watching the simulcast and/or buying the DVDs anyways.
-
Meh, all this talk about Gear Second. I'll be fine if they maybe left it as "Second Gear" for the subtitles, but it would be slightly awkward with Luffy saying the number of the gear prior to the word "Gear". Think of the scene when Luffy was preparing for Gear Third before Blueno passed out. I know it's supposed to be obvious that it's another gear, but if he says "Third…", it'd just be awkward, but that's just me. They could go the route some were saying and possibly interchange the terms. Who knows how it'll all go down until we see it.
-
"Gia Sekando" is five syllables. I could see them adding in something else (like "Now Gum-Gum!" for "Gomu Gomu no") like "Go-ing Sec-ond-Gear" or something like that, not like that's a good example or anything :D
-
What I've always found funny about this lip flap thing is that they've so far done well with "Gomu Gomu no" into "Gum Gum". His lips aren't always on screen anyway.
Also, number of syllables doesn't equal number of times you open and close your mouth.
-
@dirt:

If I had a nickel for everytime FUNi Luffy said "Now Gum-Gum…!"
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, just pointing out that FUNi has been using a work around in order to match the flap.
-

Isn't that four syllables or am I saying it wrong?
-
"Now Gum Gum" - 3 Syllables
"Go-mu Go-mu No" - 5 Syllables.
Still doesn't match entirely. But it works. -
I know this isn't a really smart thing to ask but what did 4kids use to fit GumGum so-and-so? Did they just alter the footage so it would fit or what?
-
Well they did change most of his attack names;
Gomu Gomu no Shotgun
Gum Gum Double Barrel -
4Kids would usually just stretch out Gum-Gum
Gummmmmmmmm-Gummmmmmmmmmmm BLAST!
Or make him say other stuff in addition to Gum-Gum to fit the flaps.
Or sometimes it just works out. It's not like the lip movement in One Piece is particularly detailed.
-
"Now Gum Gum" - 3 Syllables
"Go-mu Go-mu No" - 5 Syllables.
Still doesn't match entirely. But it works. But he says Gomu Gomu so fast, unless it is one of the really detailed high budget animators, chances are there are only 3 flaps anyway. (one for gomu gomu, each gomu only lasing like .5 seconds, not even.)
