Different Cultures!

Aussies are all happy, tanned blonde people who go "G'day, mate!", wearing hats with corks swinging down from strings, riding on a kangaroo.
-
Americans never watch anything that requires subtitles, cause they didnt go to the movies to read.
-
@Karate:
"Chavs" are knock offs of american "Wiggers" to begin with.
Nope
I'm so glad there are no german stereotypes …
German humour at its best.

What exactly is a Chav anyhow?
-
It's a difficult definition. Even I, as a person living in the UK, don't fully understand it.
Just look at the wikipedia article.
-
Well, here's a textbook chavette from british TV

A question I got to the Greeks around here:
Is it really true that shaking your head is a sign of agreement and vice versa nodding means disagreement in Greece? Would be hella confusing for me!Some gestures from other cultures are quite funny for me.
I remember when I watched an Anime back then, I think it was Ranma 1/2, and one of the characters put his arm up and placed his hand on the crook of his elbow.
Now I know this gesture means "Yosh, let's get to work!" in Japan.
But I stem from Tunisia and for us this gesture means "Up yours!" in bright shining letters. LOL -
Hoodies, tracksuits, sovereigns, Burberry cap, skets, skol, white lightning, Mayfair cigs, teen pregnancy, benefits, shit car, shit music, ASBO Etc.
A few things associated with chavs.

I am an American and thus do not know enough about you FOREIGNERS to stereotype you except to say that maybe you have pet dragons over there or something.
And I know education is boring, but I wanted to make sure of something real quick.
In sixth grade (figure out what that is for your country yourself), a co-worker of mine had moved to the states from a Catholic boarding school in Lebanon, and was shocked to find himself doing basic math and such when he had been doing more advanced classes and even chemistry.
What were you guys learning during the equivalent of US 6th grade?
-
German humour at its best.
Thanks for acknowledging it. ;)
What i always wanted to know, is there really such a great difference between the north and south of the US? Regarding things like tolerance, racism, etc.

You're absolutly right, we should stick to stereotyping the americans.
What were you guys learning during the equivalent of US 6th grade?
Trying to pick up chicks.
Nah but we didnt get around to chemistry and all that until around 7-8th grade.
-
I was in a gifted program, so I learned Chemistry and Geometry and all that in middle school and younger, where most other people in my high school didn't learn it till late high school.
But the public school system where I live caters to the dumb kids.

Is it really true that shaking your head is a sign of agreement and vice versa nodding means disagreement in Greece? Would be hella confusing for me!Get on msn and I will show you! XD To answer your question 'no' is shaking your head and nodding is 'yes'. BUT to say 'no' we also use one more way: Just one curt, upwards movement of the head (and we usually say 'Ohi', the greek word for no, along or just 'tsk'). :3
@Al: We started learning Chemistry at the first class of Junior High (Gymnasium). In Elementary we only had 'Environmental Sciences' and we just did a few experiments there. But some subjects they used to teach back then, changed and everything is more complicated so I don't I know what they do in 6th grade now.
-
So a twitch means no in Greece? I hope someone with epilepsy never visits there.
-
facedesks Not exactly XD; lol

Hey, I'm American, I'm allowed to make sudden often insulting remarks about other cultures.
-
But…that wasn't insulting. More like silly

'Xept if Ohio is in France and I am THAT clueless about Geography, then no? :ninja:

Good job running me into a dead end.

Thats not what we where talking about ;)
The US school system works perfectly fine for "gifted" childs and for those who where lucky enough to enlist to a good school - these kids get a top notch education (far better than in almost all european countries) und still:
The prejudice is not about the amount of knowledge its about the lack of awareness of the foundation of this knowledge. This ain't help you getting a job and you won't ever be able to buy it (and most europeans aren't even able to comprehend this root) but it is something beautiful…Few years ago i bought a chinese chest - a truly amazing piece of furniture made at the end of the 19th century - and had to discover 4 small magnets in a cheap plastic framework (for approx. 40 ct a piece) which kept the doors in position.
Whoever did this must have though that the spoiled europeans would rather accept the magnets of a distorted door, in short: He took me for a spoiled kid unable to comprehend the meaning of history, and this is the one thing i miss in modern education. We are producing millions of students who fit best in certain fields of businesses but are lacking the ability to learn 'useless' but beautiful knowledge. You ain't reading Cicero because you have to, you read him to understand who you are…
aww, please pardon my meager english, its been a while...
-
Good job running me into a dead end.
You know you like it ;D lol jkjk
Hey, what other large chains of Fast Food restaurants are there in America or any other country in the world besides McDonald's, KFC and Burger King? We have Goody's in Cyprus and Greece (there aren't any BK restaurants in Greece btw and KFC is only in Athens - Cyprus has all 4)

that had nothing to do with my question
Chrissie: Dairy Queen, Arby's, Carl's Jr. (though I think this is a west coast thing), Jack in the Box, Wendy's, and yes, there is even:
Fatburger
-
Hmm welcome to Fatburger can i take your order, yeah i like the sound of that.
Hey, I'm American, I'm allowed to make sudden often insulting remarks about other cultures.
Speakig of being offensive, Greeks are absolutly disgustingly hairy creatures. Yes even the women:ninja:
-
Fatburger XD Omg lol
^ TRUE! BUT I am lucky~ My British genes keep the unwanted hair blond and unseen~ The rest I simply shave or wax
You forgot to say this about Greeks: They won't shut the hell up. They can talk you to death. Chrissie included. Though I am relatively quiet with people I don't know well. :ninja:
-
I went there a grand total of once because I'd never seen the place before, and was curious.
I ordered a fatburger - it's like their basic burger, just a cheeseburger - and all of a sudden the chick I'm ordering it from shouts out FATBURGER~! and then the rest of the people in the kitchen behind her go FATBURGER~!
It was edible, but not exactly appetizing, and I think it was bigger than normal … but I ain't going there ever again.
-
Forgot one: Neither the German nor the Swiss or the Austrian are able to learn english to the extend of a fluent useage of the language.
Lol we've had lots of German exchange students and they've all been able to speak enough to get by, but compared to other exchange students they've had a harder time picking up on slang or any other really informal terms.
And I figured chavs were whiteys trying to act black, everytime someone gives me an example thats what it looks like.
And the US education system only works for gifted RICH children. Most public schools do not have the standards of a lot of the private schools do, and many public schools have half the standards of the average american school district.
Gifted and talented only works if you're completely gifted. Lets say you ace 2 subjects, have 1 you do decently in and one that you suck in. You maybe the top of your class in those 2 subjects you ace but you will won't be in GT.

That sounds horribly degrading and humiliating.
Why do people go there?

Better shave carefuly, dont wanna see a blonde mustache on you
And I figured chavs were whiteys trying to act black, everytime someone gives me an example thats what it looks like.
Funny i thought they looked like Italians with bad teeth and pasty skin.
Yeah ive got time for another stereotype this time a positive one, the polish women are obscenely beautiful.
Its like once you go polish….then most women dont seem as attractive or something:ninja:
-
Better shave carefuly, dont wanna see a blonde mustache on you
Women wax their mustache, they don't shave it silly :silly: And I don't even have to do that often. Barely got any after all But I do shave my legs (or wax them D;).
Oh hey! I thought the really beautiful women were the Swedish ones! O:
-
Oh hey! I thought the really beautiful women were the Swedish ones! O:
Thats what THEY want you to think:ninja:
But nah there is nothing wrong with Swedish mamasitas, Atleast not with their looks.
Its just eh how should i put it, swedish girls almost never act like girl girls.
-
Are there Subways (as in the sandwich store) in other countries? Subway is delicious.
-
I thought German chicks were supposed to be hot too.
IS IN MY BLOOD.
-
Dont be revolting my dear Al, hearing a girl moan in german would kill the libido of any man.
Ps we've got subway, its delish but oh so overpriced.
-
Very true.
Which reminds me.
Girls, go for the German men. ohgawdthosevoices

My grandma's family is made up of Jewish people who fled Nazi Germany. I have a genetic fear of the Germans.
-
I'd go for a Jewish guy so long as his hair's curly.
I wanna make curly-haired babies.
what?
-
Omg Al. I like the way you think more and more. Curly-haired babies rule >3< It's as if their baby cuteness multiplies 100 times more with curls~
-
