I'll be in the only country in the world that doesn't watch the World Cup up to the 16th of June.
Fucking America.

Why is is England in FIFA World Cup? I could not find England on my world map and its quite recent update aswell. I know I am typing english language text but cant find England on any maps.
Seriosly why cant England,Wales,Scotland and N-Ireland merge with UK team and they could even have a real chance of winning in this century.
uhh can`t await it…
luckily there are still CL and EL with german teams still in it :-O

None of the welsh, scottish or Irish players are good enuff to play for England or get in that "combined" team for that matter.
England have a great team, and have a fairly decent chance of winning it, although I fully expect Spain will be obviously, heavy favourites. Best team there…best midfield...no one else comes close.

The World Cup will be on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC in the United States.
Try again.
Semi-related: the US's warmup matches against the Czech Republic and Turkey will also be on the ESPN family of networks.
You don't watch the World Cup on TV. You watch it in a bar together with the local hooligans.
The funniest moment of 2006 was Zidane headbutting Materazi because of the parodies that followed.
Mqy_3YbSt_w
Awesome ^^
I remember that I was in Italy in the same year that happens and the little shops in the streets sold porcelain figures of that scene :D
in america, local hooligans are readily available only for NBA and NFL playoffs. it's kinda sad.
anyway, rooting for england (again). still haven't given up hope!
Fernando Torres can maybe not praticipate in the world cup..
on the one side sad to miss just a awesome player..on the other side still spain is the favourite without a doubt.
maybe so a another team has some chances against them :)
Well.
Brazil is always Brazil.
Argentina has the best player.
Spain is playing like Barca with Xavi and Iniesta in the center.
Its gonna be tough.
Awesome ^^

I guess they were mocking and thanking Zidane for giving them the the cup.

You have no idea what you're talking about.
You don't watch the World Cup on TV. You watch it in a bar together with the local hooligans.
This is completely true but you have to be certain that they're your hooligans. Case in point, my dad celebrated England's victory over Spain in Euro 96 in a Spanish bar. In Spain. Yes he's a moron.
I remember going to Croatia in 2008 and we had to stop at this campsite in Germany where a lot of other Dutch people where also taking a break. That night we all cheered on Spain in the Euro 2008 finale. There were a few German families there, all completely silent, while we were shouting and cheering and drinking.
It was brilliant.
realistically, this year is spain's year. unless the ref cheated them out of the tourney again.
i'm still rooting for england and hoping for the best, but like i've always said, england is like that hot, manly stud that every girl would want to sleep with – but can never get it up in bed.
England is in the same group as my country, luckily two teams get to advance, luckily for England :ninja:
As to the person who asked why England, Wales blahblah…
It is because of tradition and the "thought" that it was there football was born, they have the privilege.
I ll be cheering for:
Other than that a bit of roots will go in the way of
I'll be supporting Holland of course! Best forwards in the world!
And if we get no injuries, I honestly think we have a chance of winning.
I'd kill to see a match Germany vs. Holland ^^
And I hope Japan will kick some ass, though I highly doubt it
I will be rooting for…
1-Greece
2-African Teams
3-Brazil
4-England
I may not like soccer but i will be rooting for Portugal all the way, maybe we will beat England at penalties again:ninja:.
I was looking for a World Cup thread and found it!
Teams I am rooting for: US (my country), Netherlands and Brazil (great teams to watch play), Ivory Coast and Ghana (I'd like to see the African teams do well on their continent)
Teams I am rooting against: England (so pretentious; they feel cheated whenever they lose) and Portugal (for that terrible game against the Netherlands posted earlier in this thread)
Anyway, less than a month away now guys. Any bets on how many goals will be scored against North Korea as they face Brazil, Portugal and the Ivory Coast?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2010/fixtures_and_results ooh England versus USA on the 12th
should be good.
I'm rooting for England and Japan

S'alright, you'll get to laugh at us when you beat us (which is probably going to happen).
I actually agree with the statement apart from in Euro 2004 when we blatantly scored against Portugal and it was disallowed :getlost:
Yeah, we only sulk when we lose to Portugal in quarter finals.

I've never seen them play an actual fun match.
will be rooting for Nigeria and england.
I'm rooting for Germany, Spain and Japan.
The last World Cup was a really great experience - so I have high expectations for this year's Cup.
I'll be rooting for everybody that plays against Germany. As always!
I've been rooting for everybody that plays against Germany. As always!
Why? Are you our good luck charm, cause everyone does the opposite of what you want?
Did you root for Ballack not getting injured?!!
Btw, all Boateng siblings should be banned from the World Cup! (The german one only gets us into trouble anyway = penalty + red card)
Why? Are you our good luck charm, cause everyone does the opposite of what you want?
Nah, it's just because I like walking through the streets and laughing at all the people if their team lost. And since the German team has the by far highest support over here it's them I'm rooting against. If I'd live in any other country I'd be rooting against the respective team.
Did you root for Ballack not getting injured?!!
I did actually, because he's one of the most overrated players ever. Without Mr.
the German team is actually off far better since now everybody has to work hard on themselves to compensate a loss that actually is none.I guess we now know why Ballack got injured so easily.
He's been eating McDonald's Big Tasty Bacon.

Did you ever get beat up for that? :wassat: Last World Cup I laughed at Argentines for losing against Germany and they hunted me  they're hiding in my closet for four years now waiting for me to open it. So they can kill me.
I'm rooting for every minor or underdog team.
I wanna see them kick ass, rather than kick ball.
Hoping African team walk to at least semifinal though.

Of course not. Albeit people often felt the desire to do so.
Ever notice how Germany plays all team sport exactly the same?
They just passes the puck/ball/whatever betwenn them like robots until they stand before the goal.
actualy running at any point in the game seems to be a purely optional last ditch plan.

We all know that soccer is a boring game in 90% of all cases, but it's fun as long as your team wins, you can get drunk and you can hoist up the flag! (And i'm pretty good at guessing the final score, which made me win several shirts ;P -now that's fun!)

I don't consider him that much of a loss either, Adler missing is way more tragic.
Wolfwood is just bitter Sweden never won a world cup and Germany 3.
Strategic-wise the Germans are top-notch, and I like that.
I am rooting against the french, cause they didn't even deserve to be here.
The African nations all have my support and Argentina too.

This is exactly why I'm laughing at people when the team they support is losing. All this "we" and "they" crap has been pissing me off since I was very little. I for one like football because it can be a very beautiful game. And I've grown up during the time when Hugo Sanchez was playing for Real Madrid so I've been grown very attached to them. That however does not mean that I can't say that Barcelona should win for the awesome football they are playing. No matter how attached I might be to a team, the game comes first to me.
And during a World Cup this "we" and "they" crap grows exponentially. Women that are always complaining about too much football are out of a sudden dressed up in the team dresses, wave flags and go on like "we're the best in the world". Damn opportunists.

Never said they were bad, they just play like robots.
Seriously i watched the Germany-Russia hockey match a few nights ago and i seriously started to wonder if the German football team took up hockey during the off-season. I find it absolutley fascinating.

Haha, so you are the guy that keeps all the moments when the commentators say "That was one for the gallery"!
I was wondering who was in charge of storing those moments when this shithead Ribery played with his balls during the final against Werder Bremen when they were 0:3 leading and i couldn't care less.
Must be frustrating to watch soccer games and search for the "beauty of the game" nowadays. The last great game i can remember was Valencia vs. Bremen 4:4 and before that i don't even remember one.
Playing soccer instead of watching is far more exciting anyway.
The rampant nationalism is the best part of the entire competion.
It's a nice change from that one global culture bull that's around nowadays.

It's completely true. World Cup and European Cup is the only time I will go around be a crazy hooligan.
BTW German strategy is schwalbes till the 90th minute to then score one goal and win.:ninja:
Lol, that's like saying Holland's strategy is spitting mucus at the opponent, till they give up.

I find that kind of a ridiculous claim if you consider what beautiful football Barcelona is playing. Or do you watch only games that have German teams involved?

You serious?
Quite serious, but if it is like you say that things are starting to head back from the there are no borders globalization to good ol' fashioned nationalism then i'll buy everyone a pint at the pub.
Thanks, I've been considering to put you on my igno list for quite a while. Now it's finally settled. Bye, bye.
Was what i said really that bad?:ninja:
Ah well sorry to see you go, always thought you were a pretty nice guy Ivo.

I pretty much evolved from being a soccer fan, so i don't watch soccer games unless it's the finals or World Cup/European Championship/Qualification Games.
So i can't tell if what you claim is true or not, unless Barcelona reaches the finals and puts on a good show (and i care to watch).

Lol, I actually also pretty much evovled from how I was back in the day. But I accidentally stumbled across Barcelona this season and was really impressed and have been following them this season when I had the chance. It was really awesome football. Too bad that it had to lose against Mourinho's Anti-Football collective but I guess it's somehow justice if you consider how they advanced against Chealsea last year.
Ivotas, you can't expect from everybody to be transnationalists/universalists, some want the safety of borders, own cultural references, etc ….
I'd like to be seen as a world citizen, but for example when my country plays football I can't help myself to root for them even if they completely suck and the other team plays a lot better. If you understand what I mean.
