Does anyone have the cover, you know, WITHOUT the scribblings on it?
P.S. This manga looks hawt.

@yokaiforte:
Aye. According to Wikipedia, Masashi Kishimoto (manga-ka of Naruto) has a brother who has a similar artwork to him (obviously cause they're brothers). The Narutards apparently constantly accuse him of stealing Kish's art style.
I don't even have to like Naruto to accuse the guy. 666 Satan is unspirited garbage.
Is this just the first time most of the AP members have heard of Hiro Mashima? Because it's not like Rave wasn't already massively similar to One Piece in art and design.
I have to check this rave out one day.
Zephos will probably disagree with me, but in my humble opinion if you look past the fact it's hardly original and can get through the first few volumes (either to Sieg Hart or to Gale Glory), I personally think Rave is enjoyable. Not exaclty the world's best manga but enjoyable.
and…...
I saw the raw of the first chapter yesterday..
Second pageVVVVhttp://img150.imageshack.us/img150/7910/fairygo9.jpgomg ROBIN!!!!!! XD
Prior to then I can't say I ever viewed his art has having a simularity to Oda's. I can now certainly see a simularity, but who's to say he's actually trying to rip off Oda? Perhaps it just so happens his natural drawing ability bares simularities. I'm sure that can happen. And I do agree, she does look like Robin.
Personally I am glad it looks like one piece :P I always LOVED Rave! it was very good manga..
Same here.
I'm not talking about elements, but story elements like kurapika/sasuke, hunter exam/chuunin, nen/chakra manipulation, gon kullia's realtionship/naruto and sasuke's.
Sorry, but those are IMO all fairly common things…
Kurapica/Sasuke - Characters like these appear OFTEN. Kurapika is one of the few which are done very well, but he's hardly the only or the first one.
Exam - Most of the Chuunin Exam is fighting and might as well be taken straight out of Dragon Ball. And those tests and stuff also aren't original...anyone ever saw the 3rd Asterix movie? The wholemovie is about tasks and tests and whatever! And I'm sure that movie (and the comic book it's based on) is A LOT older than Naruto or HXH.
Nen/Chakra - Now that is everywhere, really...Gohan also did something like that when he taught the others how to fly...Nen and Chakra never were original.
Gon-Killua/Naruto-Sasuke - The great hero and the good friend that doesn't know if he wants to be good or bad...Ichigo-Ishida, Kenshin-Saito and they all go back to Goku-Vegeta, Goku-Piccolo, early on even Goku-TenShinHan were kinda like that.
Well last time I checked a similar artstyle doesn't make a ripoff, its a copy of the story twisted slightly.
If it was about a group of pirates trying to be the best, the main character can stretch, and they all are looking for a treasure left by a man who was executed 20 years ago THEN we could call it a ripoff.
Artstyle doesn't make a ripoff, it could be possible Hiro got inspiration from Oda, or it could just be similar. Its still art, and hes still drawing it with all his heart, hes not tracing or some shit.
Its not a ripoff.
I hope to see this topic turned into an official discussion for FairyTail if possible, I never liked rave but I'm slightly interested in this.
I don't even have to like Naruto to accuse the guy. 666 Satan is unspirited garbage.
Yes. I'd also say the same about Rave. Well, it wasn't as bad….
Wow, calling this a ripoff is retarded. This author has always had this style of drawing.
I never read Rave, but it looked enjoyable. Something doesn't have to be original to be enjoyable.
I agree Carter, cause in this point of time almost everything has been done so I'm not saying original things still can't be done but its getting quite hard.
But like I said, a similar art style doesn't make something a ripoff. He probably enjoy this art style so he can enjoy drawing manga without it seeming like a major job.
Can anyone point me to the raw?

The Chuunin exam the forest of death=the island in Hunter to get the numbers. The written test is just liek the begining of the hunter exam. Nen is different because it has a sytem, not some super power boost Their are limits to the system and Naruto's training to find his element is almost directly from hunter x hunter.
Yea I would like to fully read a translated raw/ or just stare at the pretty pictures of a untranslated raw.
The artstyle is close to Oda's but if a person really thinks aboot it, there isn't that many different ways to draw a person, especially with a person's face.
Now Rave looked like an interesting manga, but I only looked into the wikipedia description of it. So my opinion on it can't be held close to a person that has read the manga. Maybe somebody could post a link to a site that has scans? Pretty Please?
Anyways, Oda has a great style of artwork and it makes sense if another manga artist would influence his artwork around Oda's style, then I would see nothing wrong with that. Doesn't this sort of thing happen all the time in Japan.
Please tell me where you can read it. I cant find it.
BTW i dont think its a ripoff

Human face is an area of art where artists has very diverse approaches. Actually it's amazing how many differant ways there are, and has been, to capture human face compared to other animate or inanimate objects. Just check out this –> ;-)
For all your RAW needs go here. If the owner of this site doesn't want me spamming this link around I'll remove it immediately.
But the first episode has been removed (only newest raws are posted on that site) replaced by the second chapter, which gives me a better pirate vibe then One Piece ever did (excusing the Jaya arc, of course.) Oda has some work to do.
Also, I don't care what her powers are or who she is, but She's my new favorite shounen female character. (Bottom Right Panel.)
This series looks pretty interesting and promising. Loved the little bar fight at the beginning of the chapter, then when things were about to get serious, the owner came busting in. XD
Can't wait to see this translated!

I agree with everything they said.

I completly agree. The idea of a man becoming the best of the best, say Pirate King or world's greatest swordsman is hardly new, yet I don't think I've seen anyone here, especally the ones saying Fairy Tail is unoriginal, comment on that fact.
oh yeah this is fun. But the scanslators will suffer greatly with the amount of pages this thing has per chapter :O
Thankyou for the link ninjuichi !
No problem.
I think the large chapter size is only for the introduction. Is Shounen Magazine a monthly publication? If so, that'll ease the worry of the scanlator.
Well i can uderstand chapter 1 being 80 pages, but chapter 2 with 49 pages isn't really a normal chapter for a weekly manga is it?
That's why I asked if Shounen Magazine was monthly, but if it is weekly, then I guess it is unusual.

do you know where to get the first chapter then?
also its about mercinaries or pirates…..
Okay, that girl who I suppose in the main female lead is fing hot! She reminds me of a Nami and Orihime twist, HOT DAMN!

For all those looking for the 1st chapter, here you go:

This series looks interesting and I don't want to hold it against the mangaka for having a style very similar to OP (I can also see a little Shaman King in there as well). I hope someone translates this but first I have to read Rave
I think it's weekly, because it's in the same magazine as Hajime no Ippo.
Steel Ball Run has really long chapters as well.
Mangas tend to have quite alot of pages for the first couple chapters, not just the first inorder to atleast get a chunk into the story. Atleast I think so.
I still stand by this thread being renamed to be the official thread.
If Rave is anything to go by, there's a chance the first four chapters will be longer than normal. The first Rave tanko only had four chapters in it and still had the same number of pages as the other ones (simular to the FMA tankos). Perhaps that's Hiro's style - have a long start to help him cover all the basics for the story.
Thank you for the links darktravis & ninjuichi.
actually this was just a 49 page special. This serial mangazine (マンガジン)has been doing this lately, I think in order to keep up with jump. before i left in Japan they were doing a lot of focus serial rotations in order to find a new series to get people interested in, while also having a lot of the series do an extended chapter in order to keep the readers happy. This is a pretty good series, i like how its pace is pretty quick, although the story so far seems pretty average but hey thats how all good series start out (although OP was way different for me it grabbed me from the first chapter) I can see why a lot of people think its a knock off from the OP style, but it deserves a shot kinda. Still OP beats it by a long shot in terms of writing.
also Steel ball run is in ultra jump which is the jump serial monthly magazine, thats why the chapters are longer
Is there a translated version of both chapters? I hate to ask because of the reply I might get but I can't read Japanese so at the moment all I'm doing is staring at the pretty manga pictures.
There'll be one soon :)
So far, ch1 is 80 pages long. Ch2 is 50 and ch3 is 30. Scanlator's nightmare, lol.
Yeah but from that its going down each chapter. Chapter 4 and up I'd imagine to be normal sized chapters.
I agree it sort of look like One piece but I just red I mean stared at the first chapter and I liked it, its awesome and I want to read the translated version already  but anyways great manga for now and lets see how it goes. That girl sure acts and looks like nami, sort of.
I wanna read it too but I'll wait for oceanizer and co.'s scanlation.
i am so looking forward to reading it myself XD
Once this gets popular I see Fairy TailxOne Piece crossovers in the future.
haha yeah probably… that could be interesting, hmmm

Don't you stop now or i'll show you nightmare:ninja:

Congrats on the release of the first chap.
Good stuff. Unlike Naruto, Bleach or even One Piece, the introductory chapter managed to wow me. I hope it keeps up the quality.
