Berserk

If those are indeed real then we may have just found out the reason for Miura's big breaks
No, not int he least. Just because thats the case with Oda, doesn't mean its the case with Miura. Berserk has ALWAYS had long hiatuses and slow releases, since 1988. We're 21 years into the property and its still only on what, volume 33?
Obviously working alone and at the insane level of quality he works at he's never going to keep a weekly pace like other authors, and even monthly is pushing it. If he'd been a consistat monthly artist from the start we'd be on volume 45 or so (with a volume release every 6 months or so) So no, he's always been on the slower side, producing about a volume and a half a year.
And like I said before, my initial excitement aside, considering those shots are apparently a year old, those shots are PROBABLY put together by a studio as a 30 second-1 minute demo reel to try and pitch it to potential backers. Thus, professional studio quality, but without any official studio announcement or early teasing, and so short and "in house" as to not be spread about.
It happens al the time. There's apparently an anime star wars animation demo make in the 70's that got passed on when DROIDS came out instead (uggh, what did we miss out on there?) and there's a famous studio Ghibli Little Nemo pitch thats circulating on youtube that completley blows out of the water the thing that we got.
Pitch seems the most likely. It explains the quality, how old the pics are, why there's been no official word on it, and why its so elaborate for just a "joke".
-
Well the guy who posted them over at GAF said they were screencaps from a year old trailer. So kishibevard is on the right track with the pitch arguement.
-
-
-
idolm@ster aside, the reason I said what I said was because Miura tends to involve himself in side projects, which would be a good explanation for the hiatuses throughout Berserk's lifespan (last time, I believe it was some sort of line of trading cards he was working on)

I didn't notice at first because I have avatars disabled by default, but darktravis that is quite the good one!
…
Sadly I come with very annoying news. It's not just Cartoon Network who seems to think people want live action, even "anime professors" seem to want it as well.
meh.

meh.
Barefoot Gen is an incredibly compelling and important work, buth as a manga and as an anime. I've seen it twice over the years, and its a hard one to rewatch. (Also, Grave of the Fireflies.)
That said… No way in hell they go through with making Barefoot Gen a live action movie in america. There's no audience for it. Nobody wants to pay to go see a documentary on Hiroshima, no matter how sad or touching. Or ESPECIALLY given how sad and what a downer it is. Especially since it would HAVE to be an all japanese cast. It just would. So no random american stars unless you get Jackie Chan to be the father or something, and even that is horribly horribly wrong on many levels.
And then given the american PR machine thats tried to put a positive spin on using the bombs for five decades... No one wants to see a movie where WE'RE the badguys and we shattered thousands of innocent lives tragically, only to then watch the surviviors sufferings in the weeks and months after.
No way it gets made, and if it does, no way it does well.
-
^what you said.
whoever wants to bring Berserk to hollywood will burn. With all of it's mature content, I thought the series was Hollywood proof.
well, maybe the troll rape scenes will be in the directors cut.

BUMP

YEP HE IS AMAZING, I don't really read this but it really can't be weekly?
-
More 307 spoiler pics.
! Next issue is out 10/9. It's the start of "Fantasia" Arc titled Elf Island. So it looks like 308 will bring the focus back to Guts.
! -
Awesome man, thanks. Looks like the dream is coming true and the nightmare is around the corner.
-
eclipse part 3 I'm assuming?
-
gah, another "scenery porn" chapter -_-
-
Waited 3 months to see a building appearing out of nowhere.
But at least we didn't have to wait another extra day for any translations to come out.
-
Where can I download a raw?
-
ha wow definately gonna take translators forever to translate, so don't expect a scanlation soon
-
There are like 6 sentences… So I assume that was sarcasm.
There's only a low quality raw out right now:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=480AT9Z2But it's ok just to look at. Not good enough for scanlations though.
Seems it's taking a while to get raws after Berserk being on break… or something. -
lollin at all the losers complaining about lack of pointless dialouge.
-
nice… welcome in Rome version bombastica (impending doom inclusive)
I guess there will be new chapters of berserk till I have grandchildren
-
has muira allways been break happy like togashi? or is this just a once in awhile thing?
-
has muira allways been break happy like togashi? or is this just a once in awhile thing?
He's Togashi except his art is phenomenal.
-
Im just hoping that the next chapter will move the story along. I dont think hes as bad as Togashi because most the time you know when the chapters will return but I think hes getting worse. I cant remember ever reading this many chapters without any dialog in the entire manga. Its like when he does return its just a few pictures. Hes not even putting out full chapters anymore. Iv learned not to get excited by news of new berserk chapters because I end up getting let down.
-
Next chapter will be the start of a new arc and probably cut back to Guts, so I guess its time for elfhelm.
-
"Berserk takes forever to come out like it always has for 20 years and the art is always amazing and shows the time that went into it, but I'm going to bitch about it anyway!"
Seriously. Its the way it always has been with this series, its the way it always will be. Its in a bi-weekly mag, yes, but if you just pretend its a monthly, it about works out to 12 chapters a year most years, (about 1 and a 1/2 volumes) sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. He's produced 33 volumes in 20 years, its just how the series is.
I especially like the griping about the last several chapters having little-no dialouge, when they've been full of amazing high quality double page spread of epic happenings, and Berserk has ALWAYS had very little dialouge for long stretches.
Muira has estimated, in a fairly recent interview, that he's about 60 or 70% done, so there's probably another 10 years or so to go. Get used to the idea, and stop griping about it not being done until you have grandkids. (I've been following the series since BEFORE the Eclipse or even the anime, so… yeah. Learn some patience, it is what it is.)
Or go read some novels and get used to the years between volumes of novel series.
Totally been spoiled by assistant filled Jump quality weekly disposable stories.
-
MHQ raw is up at MH. Nothing much happened just reaction shots to the kingdom appearing and everyone then running to it. Trans isn't out yet so I checked out SK. From what they are saying at SK.net, Apparently the Kingdom that appeared is called Falconia and is Gasieric's old capital that disappeared.

I've only been keeping up with this series for a year or so now, though it's really good. I hadn't read much seinen manga before then.
It always amazes me when people say they want to see a story end, the point isn't about the ending. It's about the interesting things that happen until there.
The art's good, yeah, but it's an extremely intricate style, which doesn't make it necessarily BETTER than simpler kinds just more complex. It looks nice but there are plenty of other really cool styles that work just as well. And just because they come out more frequently or not doesn't make something better or worse. It just may alter how much patience and dedication you need to have to it to enjoy it.
It seems the manga's finally done with the Millennium Falcon arc, I guess done with the whole Griffith takes over the world thing, too. It's very interesting how who is essentially the villain is depicted as a great hero while the main character is undergoing so many problems of so many different kinds. It's a really original story, the way it's done, (specifically, not from a general point of view).
By the way, if you haven't yet, you can get Evil_Genius's scanlation here:

but we are pissed because we don't like having to wait forever to see the story move at all. I mean sure i might need to wait 3 years between books in a series, but at least it comes out and i have like 300 pages to read. Waiting a couple months or a month to read 15 pages is just bullshit. You can't expect people to be excited about something when it is like that.
I mean i would have to not look at bleach for like 3 years to get like a decent chunk of new material.

Yeah I agree, I love Berserk and its probly my second favorite manga but seriosly Miura should pick up the pace…
I appreciate good art and excellent detail but if it takes over month for chapter then its not worth it...
I love this series to death but Miura could get better attidute with this, I heard ugly rumors that he had long hiatus because enjoying his time with Idolstar...
We have our rights to be critic towards series and I just hope Miura gets bit better attidute towards his series or even hire an assistant if its really this painful to him.
Damn I sound such a fuking whiner. I am too used for Oda's pace...

When you write and draw an epic story of similar calibur by working 18 hour days that's professionally published for 20 years and 33 volumes, then you're allowed to talk. Until then, you can't say anything about how long or what kind of effort both mental and physical it takes to produce what is being produced.
Or even, a single chapter of that level of quality.

Dude is dedicated to his exact vision and quality art. He's been doing it himself for 20 years, barring illness, he's going to keep going the same way, i would assume.

No you don't. Its important that a story eventually ends.

@VL7:

well yes i do want one piece to say end perfect and not be just a run on continually cause good ratings when it shoudl have stopped say a while ago.
but if the story can continue to entertain and don't feel tacked on i'm pretty sure that nobody would ever want a story to end.

Just because a story ends doesn't mean the world has to end. Tolkien, for example, had a lot of books about other people that didn't affect the main story of LOTR in any way, yet they still had their own adventures and achievements. It's the same with my favorite Author, Raymond E. Feist. Some of his side stories often feature common people who end up in situations that have absolutely no bearing on the main story, but are still great stories to hear and read about.
Even when Luffy's story ends, we may get something from Oda still set in the same world, only maybe in the future or the past.
-
Well, right now it's NOT on hiatus, and the next chapter comes out in the next issue of Young Animal. So, at that point it'll start a new arc and I'm sure plenty of plot will progress.
As long as it doesn't end up like one of those series that never got an ending like cyborg 009, because the author died. It's interesting to keep reading it.
And maybe that anime they think might be real will show up one of these years… -

This series needs a proper anime, I watched the first anime and wasn't at all impressed and I don't mean that by artwork.
-
i'm actually really excited how he will draw elf island
-
Yeah, Berserk deserves an OVA or at least an anime that is closer to the manga. And for those saying that the story isn't progressing, the last couple of chapters and this one is showing the effects of the emperor guy dying. The repercussions are so far reaching that the they can't all be fit into one chapter. It seems slow because the last couple of chapters have been so far apart.
-
What I didn't really get is if the dying emperor only looks like a glowing try for the time being and will he disappear OR did he really turn into that tree permanentally?
-

hey i'm not saying the last 10 chapters or whatever aren't great and are moving forward and need to be grand or whatever.
it think this topic speaks for itself though. 72 pages for a 307 chapter manga, that has been going on for some 20 years is it, and only the first topic. not 2, 3, 4 or whatever.
its clear because of how slow the chapters come out we all lose interest in it until the next one pops out and say a couple things about chapter then we done. Its like berserk is a holiday. You go to relatives for a few hours and catch up, then you dont' see or talk to each other till next holiday.
versus (bleach, one piece, fairy tail, naruto ect) are like football teams, or wahtever. We have a greater bonding to it and feel like they are a part of us. We want our team to win and feel connected to them and get pissed when they loose and celebrate when they win. Its like building comradery with the manga versus feeling distant with it liek i do with berserk
That is really all i'm trying to say. not that it is super slow and shitty like _________ or story not moving, characters suck, or art sucks or whatever you want to get out of my posts. I'm just saying you loose the connection with the manga (and it is a great/amazing one) becuase of the long breaks that happen frequently enough.
Hell I would prefer if it was like football where it had 18-20 weeks of a chapter a week, then a full 7 months off versus not knowing when we can expect chapters or breaks. I mean if having 15 chapters a year, woudl rather have them be all back to back and then 37 week break like its a season over spread out like now and hunter hunter is
-
Just read the chapter. Berserk never fails to send a shiver up my spine while reading. I'd like to say that One Piece is better but… Berserk is at least on par with it. The multiple plains are overlapping and Falconia has appeared! Has it been mentioned before? I can't recall.
-
when it comes to story I would honestly choose berserk over one piece
-
Honestly I want to read more about the comparion between Berserk and One Piece, Miura and Oda.
-
well i'm not gonna give it and I refuse to explain why I think so.
