@Naisho:
For Nakama - I prefer KF explanation and cannot say more.
For Haki - it have too many meanings in original and to boost it still dos not explained by Oda. To keep everything solid, and not fail consistency check from next frame up to end of series I prefer it untranslated.
Look a page or Two back, Dythm, the Head of Kaizoku Fansubs himself admitted the group was, at least in part, wrong about their Original use of the Word Nakama, and have drastically cut down. Their Original Explanation is now Moot.
Here's the quote from Dythm.
@Dythm:
We at K-F know that using the term "nakama" directly is not a perfect compromise. We decided to use it back in 2003 to express Luffy's line after destroying Arlong Park. At the very outset, I expressed concern that the term would get overused, and since our other co-owner left, we've been working in more English translations of nakama in contexts of lesser importance, but still leaving it in where an emotionally charged term is called for. I know that not everyone will agree with it, and that is perfectly fine. All we ask is that people respect our decision.
What he basically says here is that he admits the group was wrong about the way they originally began to handle the word when they first started leaving it untranslated, and that they literally only used it because they had trouble with ONE LINE, and just kept using it out of consistancy. He himself was worried the word would get Overused, which is exactly what I'm saying has happened.
This is coming from the HEAD OF KAIZOKU FANSUBS HIMSELF, you can't say "K-F's Explanation" anymore.
Haki means Ambition. that's it. It doesn't have "Too many Meanings" but it still hasn't been explained by Oda, you're right. However, Oda used the Japanese word for "Ambition" for a reason. It NEEDS TO BE Translated. If not in the dialog itself, then AT LEAST IN A TRANSLATION NOTE!!
Certain groups, but most especially Franky House haven't been translating it at all. AT ALL, even with some kind of Note. That's wrong, anyone will agree. I'm serious. I'm asking this RIGHT NOW, Does ANYONE out there think groups should be leaving ANYTHING completely untranslated? And By completely, I mean Without ANYTHING, even a note.
@Naisho:
I don't understand something - scabbard is thing, you insert blade in /after use/ to not harm youself??
Pretty march same can be said about Samurai/Knight.
Sorry, you're right I've been up all night and in my tiredness, I've mistaken the word Scimitar with the word Scabbard. Sorry.
A Pirate's sword is either a Scimitar or a Cutlass. (Cutlass being a different kind of Sword that is also used in Maritime combat)
Japanese Sword (The Kind Zoro uses) - Katana
Pirate Sword (The Kind Shanks uses for example) - Scimitar
@Naisho:
Its not right. Alcohol is C2H5OH 100%, while sake, vodka, whisky is 40% C2H5OH + 60% of water. But other I agreed.
Now you're just being weird…
By "Alchohol" I meant that Sake means an "Alchoholic Beverage"
In Japanese it refers to any kind of Drink that can get you Drunk.
We now use it in English to refer to the specific kind of Japanese Drink, but in Japanese they would use the word to refer to anything, even Rum.
So if you see a character swinging around a Bottle that says "RUM" on it. Or for that matter, any drink that isn't in the normal Sake Jug, isn't clear and isn't drank from the little sake Bowl, it's not Japanese Sake, so it should be translated.
