Chapter 543 "Straw Hat & Black Beard" Discussion
-
-
Now I know I'll be crushed for saying this but regardless, after Hannyabal's touching speech do you think Luffy will help the ID staff and re-capture some of the prisoners? Yes I know Luffy is a pirate and he has to save Ace, but he is also too nice of a guy and loves to help people.
-
@dirt:
that said, Ivan-chwan will turn them into womenfolk
I'd hope not. Imagine the Fanfics. Think of the children!
-
Would be funny if Ivanka turned Sadi into a guy in their fight, just to see his/her reaction. Hopefully it would make up for us missing out on that hot wax fight mentioned a while back.
-
Everyone somehow forgot to mention the fact that Crocodile and Blackbeard are in the same room.
..Crocodile and Blackbeard are in the same room.
One Piece could just end right now and I would be still satisfied.

So that it doesn't get lost on the previous page:
Here's a Ch.543 Scanslation

Jazzfeezy, I can't imagine Luffy would directly go around and capture people for that reason. But indirectly if the really bad guys somehow escape and run amuck around the world, maybe the other straw hats will whip them good on their journey back to Shabody. Who can say really, but if allot of prisoners do get out, chances Oda will write them right back in.
Pigeon man, I was thinking the exact same thing! The man who replaced Crocodile, and they are together in the same room!
-
you're saying that as if Blackbeard stole Crockpot's seat right out from under him when Teach only took the empty one that Crikey used to have.

Thanks so much for this, dude! I'm glad I didn't go to school for my morning classes; I can't download things from my phone.
So, awesome chapter. I love Iva without a giant head and Hannybal is really becoming a sympathetic character somehow XD
Next chapter I expect to see Blackbeard throwing us a curve-ball. Maybe he'll take away Hannybal's powers and let Luffy go through, but at the same time, I rather expected that we'd get a big fight coming up here. Seeing as Blackbeard's here now, I don't see how this can happen, unless BB melts into the shadows and watches, or if Luffy fights Blackbeard, but that fight would only last a chapter at the longerst because of the massive difference in power and would make it more difficult for Luffy to fight anyone else.
-
If Magellan is on his way where everyone else is I wonder if there will be another apperance from Shiryuu (granted that nothing happened to him)
-
Hmmm… 12th cover story. Shouldn't this be the 11th? CP9 was the 10th, right?
And, damn, I thought the BB Pirates were fighting Shiryu while the captain has gone after Luffy. I just hope Shiryu will not become some fodder and we discover he was beaten in the blink of an eye... Magellan aside, ID is looking WAY too weak (really, it's just like the only thing that prevented it from being rampaged by pirates before was the Sea Kings outside), at least Shiryu has to show something.
-
the problem with this chapter is that I don't know whether to tell Luffy to keep running for Ace or to face off with Blackbeard
-
If Magellan is on his way where everyone else is I wonder if there will be another apperance from Shiryuu (granted that nothing happened to him)
Well he is sure to appear one way or another, to at least explain what happened between him and Blackbeard.
Anyway, absolutely awesome, awesome chapter, I can't believe it's been nearly 30 volumes since Blackbeard and Luffy's last encounter!!
I'm curious about Crocodile as well, how will he react in front of his successor?
(and poor Sanji lol) -
if Luffy fight Blackbeard right now, he will get stomp! Luffy is not ready yet in my opinion. ><
-
This post is deleted!
-
I don't believe there will be a Luffy/Blackbeard fight either, there is no time for a fight as huge as this, and Luffy would probably lose anyway

i think its
10-CP9
11-SH./Animal coverstories
12-SH Island adventures.so this should be 12th

No, Oda does breaks between cover stories all the time. Those covers with the Straw Hats BEFORE THIS ONE were just normal covers.
-
Great chapter due to Hannybal's speech. We'll definetly see Shiryuu later on to see what happened to him. I don't see see Blackbeard and Luffy fighting next chapter. He'll probably leave once Magellan arrives and the rematch starts. Wonder how long each SH cover story is going to be. If it's only a few chapters then we might get them all done before the MHQ war is over. Or he might make them long to flesh out what happened to them instead of having dedicated flashbacks to what they were doing when they eventually join back up.
-
Oh man, anyone else feeling another Sky Island-type royal rumble soon with all the main players now on the same floor? Magellan and ID remainders vs Blackbeard Pirates vs Luffy and his jailbreak crew.
-
Whoa, 5 double-pages in one chapter? That's awesome. Gotta love Croc's raised eyebrow on the 16-17 spread.
Poor Hannyabal though; he's fighting to protect the weak, then gets curbstomped himself.
-
Great chapter. I still think Hannyabal did a good job, he took some heavy and powerful hits from Luffy and was still standing in the end. And also liked his speech, there aren't that much characters in the marines or government that have a real sense of justice. At least he wasn't finished of as a joke character.
Next chapter is going to be so fuckin' awesome. Luffy and Blackbeard meet - I hope there is going to be a epic speech again.
And I really hope Oda isn't going to take too much time to reveal what happened to Shiryuu. -
don't know why people are feeling weird about the prisoners at impel down being freed since it's likely that the marines are gonna get taken out and pirates will go crazy around the world anyway. plus luffy ain't the one who freed the pirates it was iva. i still wonder if somebody powerful is gonna show up at impel down right as luffy and the jailbreak crew leave the prison. at this point the situation at impel down has become critical and the marines definitely need to do something about it even if whitebeard is about to attack. maybe an admiral will show up? perhaps even akainu? i can see him requesting to go since he seems to be a guy that is all about absolute justice. have him take down a huge number of those escaped prisoners and then have luffy and his own little jail break crew escape on a ship while the admiral is rampaging.

You're post reminded me. Croc didn't really do much this chapter, until the end. Isn't it weird that he was suddenly put into focus at the end of the chapter? I think something is going to happen involving all the big players in this rebellion team.
Oh, but the Blackbeard vs. Croc ideas are poorly thought out. BB took "Croc's" (or more like the first empty ) position by coincidence. There's no connection between the two character at this point.
-
Yeah, it seems I was right, BlackBeard came for Luffy !
Looks like he will propose him to save Ace if he accepts to join… -
Oh sh*t, poor Sanji ! :-D
-
Gotta say that this chapter was pretty awesome, but yet again, it's just setting up for something even bigger! Luffy and Hannyabal's fight was short but sweet. I could really sympathize with Hannyabal and the cause he was fighting for against all odds. And finally, Luffy finally confronts Blackbeard and is made clear of who he is and what's he's done. I can't wait for the next chapter. Oh, and LOL at the cover story. Poor Sanji just can't catch a break. XD

my thoughts…croc has something against WB, so BB is more on his side than his villain:happy:
-
this chapter really does make me sympathize with Hannybal, and made me hate BlackBeard even more for stepping on his ideals just like that D:<
I wonder if this fight between luffy and blackbeard will be for another time or if it can even be put on another time. because it looks like luffy is just about ready to kick his ass, although he may need some help from all the badassery behind him (croc, jimbei, iva, ina, bon).
I doubt BlackBeard will be defeated right now, he'll just spill out his plan to luffy and leave luffy more pissed off than ever.
-
I don't understand people here,
how can any of you think blackbeard would lose to luffy at this state in time. Is this the first chapter you've read since jaya?

My guess is a minor scuffle at the start of next chapter, some exposition on Blackbeards plans (very ambiguous though) than he just teleports away, meanwhile Ivan will calm Luffy down and reason with him that there is no time to waste on Blackbeard :P I seriously doubt there will be any major confrontation at all. Blackbeard doesn't seem to want to fight Luffy that much, and he has a lot of other people that can bring Luffy to his senses. And than have the chapter conclude with Magellan appearing on the scene right at the last moment >.>
Also Hanyabal definitely seems like the type of character that has either mini-story chances and/or will eventually appear later on as a good guy to help the strawhats later. His conviction, even if a bit theatrical (like T-Bone), shows that he really isn't a bad guy, just too "ambitious" for his own good (wanting to be warden). He is also a LOT tougher than he seemed from the spoiler pics earlier. People thought there he got taken out by a single jet gatling, but he actually survived that + Jet Pistol and Jet Bazooka and still remained conscious and steady to his duty. Badass way to end Hanyas struggles. Couldn't have asked for anything better than that.

If Croc figures out what Teach is aiming for he'd have every reason to follow him. After all, he teams up with Luffy who as someone who wants to rescue Ace (a Whitebeard Pirate) so Teach would be much more fitting his taste. I actually see Teach beat up Crocodile as he did back then with Ace.
If he gives him the same speech about Newgate's time being up and "join me" I see no way how Crocodile wouldn't join if he receives the same beating (meaning comprehending Blackbeards strength). The only problem I have with this though is that I don't see Crocodile joining with Teach now. It's to early to doublecross Luffy's team. Perhaps later on at Marineford after he chewed a bit on everything.
-
I think croc was put in focus in that image because Hannyabal was telling Luffy that there are evil man in the world and that there is need for a place like Impel Down to protect the ones that aren't strong enough to stand up for themselves. And Croc is just that evil for Luffy. Luffy had no choice to go against his will in freeing Croc for getting out releasing Croc in the world again after all he has done in Alabasta for saving his brother… Croc was there as an example to what evil Luffy is bestowing upon the world once again

i think we can be sure that croc will betray luffy and his gang..but iam with you that it seems now a little bit early to do so..
but yeah thought also about the chances that croc will team up with BB..
my opinion is that croc will join him now\or later for a period–lets say the end of the Waaar!!...can
t imagine croc (and probably than also mr.1) in BB`s crew for any time longer...
croc will team up and have a good fight later in the WAARR! and than his ambition to stay with BB will get lost in my eyes, cause than his deal with WB will be done. -
That is…actually a good point flandrian. This is probably the worst thing luffy ever did in his pirate career. Luffy and his crew are always the good guys, but just now he freed a lot prisoners who deserved it to be in jail. Of course, he had no evil intentions, It's just his stubbornness.
And I also wonder how Crocodile will react to Blackbeard and vice versa.
Wait a moment...I just realized that Luffy, Blackbeard and Crocodile are in the same room.
If Urouge would jump out of nowhere, my head would explode. -
If Croc figures out what Teach is aiming for he'd have every reason to follow him.
Suddenly, I got this weird mental image of Croc thanking BB for bringing Whitebeard so close to the prison and exchanging buisness cards.

Discuss about Mr.2(bon clay)
:getlost:

^^ he`s fighting brave so far unknown guard…gooo!!!

I'm sure this has been noted quite a bit, but I do like the detail in having Ivankov's portrait in the cover story.
-
Wow, this chapter was awesome!!! Totally blew my mind away. Regards to what Blackbeard's plan is, has anyone ever considered the reason Blackbeard joined the Shickibukai was to immediately leave it after?!?
Allow me to elaborate. Blackbeard first gets himself the status and in the meantime convinces the World Government that they're strong enough to take out Whitebeard when they're probably not. He starts a war which neither side is really prepared for and acts like a complacent sheep giving the World Government some insurance. However, as soon as the moment of war is nigh, he betrays the World Government and lets it fend against Whitebeard. And why would he do that? Because Whitebeard is not his only enemy. Blackbeard is seeing the bigger picture. Even if he takes out Whitebeard, the World Government and the Marines would still be an obstacle for his conquest of One Piece so he tricks them into fighting Whitebeard and then abandons them increasing the chance of both sides (Whitebeard and WG+Marines) to be seriously damaged. That way it would make it easier for Blackbeard to crush both! And as a side-benefit, he'd have the opportunity to steal one of the Marine battleships and invade Impel Down to boost his forces making it easier to defeat both White beard and the World Government and become Pirate King. man if this is true, Backbeard would have come up with the most awesome and ambitious plan ever.

If Urouge would jump out of nowhere, my head would explode.Actually, I think you and some other people are taking Hannybal's words too seriously, they're influencing too many people. Although, this following post is influenced by Blackbeard so…well hear me out.
Yes, Hannybal's words sound good, but they might not be as right as they sound. I think that scene was meant to show us how passionately Hannybal believes in his cause. But really, what is releasing these prisoners going to do? There are countless pirates already on the sea, and since the WG couldn't capture them they're probably more dangerous then most of these guys. Luffy's adventures have also shown us evil people with evil plans are already on this sea.
So, I think Blackbeard's "that ain't no answer" holds far more weight then Hannybal's words. Though, the fact that BB is bashing Hannybal's head helps make him seem more correct, but still. What's going to happen when these guys get out? 70% of them will probably get their asses kicked by fighters at the WG's disposal. Amongst these prisoners, I only see Croc as a threat, and maybe those pirates Iva mentioned. That's less then 10 people.
The consequences of Luffy's actions aren't are evil as Hannybal is making out. It's more like he believes he's good and Luffy is evil.
-
^^@thousand lion: i don
t rly think that was his plan from the beginning..i mean he hadn
t planned to hand over ace to the WG..he said he wanted ace to join and also was behind luffys bounty.. i think he is right now playing his cards optimal…he hasn
t planned to give his status as shichi right away but the time is right to handle so he does it..it was already clear that his plan wasnt to become JUST shichi..he wants to be PK and the strongest ..nothing else! and now his two biggest enemies for his dream (WB and the WG) is fighting each other..just perfect for his plans..and we don
t know right now...in the end BB will also have some fun at the WAARRR!!(i think going against his old captn is something he
s looking forward to proove he`S the strongest) and will test maybe some of his new members :) -

Well, other than killing Whitebeard, we don't know Croc's true intentions yet.
I'm not saying he turned over a new leaf, but from what we've seen, he has changed a bit.
For one, he didn't want to join the Baroque Works prison break, despite having an easy opportunity to and knowing (presumably) he was going to Impel Down.
He also didn't care whether or not he could escape unless it involved Whitebeard. For whatever reason, Croc has a vendetta against Whitebeard.
And when Luffy appeared, he doesn't seem to harbor any ill will towards Luffy or Alabasta, saying it's all in the past. Whether or not this is the truth is unknown, but Croc has always been a bullshit artist, so knows?
The point is, I guess, that Crocodile's plans other than killing Whitebeard are unknown. So whether or not he's "evil" anymore is all up in the air (technically, killing Whitebeard does inadvertently put him on the World Gov's side).
-
Why worry about Luffy tarnishing his image by freeing evil prisoners, how many of them do you really expect to even escape? A ton are dead or severely wounded, plus Magellan and an explosion of poison is still ahead of us.
-
that's it… that was really short.
-
I wonder what was going through Croc's mind with that face when BB dropped in. His reaction is priceless.
-
He was like who the hell is he?
-
What do the characters on Shiryuu's jacket mean?
One looks like "dog".
Hey guy, I know where you're going with this and you need to stop before it begins guy, seriously.
