It's not that bad. I mean when you consider the cost and all you can't have it all. I figure if they adapt it one to one the demons are going to cost a lot. I like it. I especially like the ambiance and the choreography/action sequences stood out because of how good it was. And I don't mean industry-standard good, I meant Kenshin/old kung fu movies' level of good. OPLA choreography is...okay but that's mostly because the stunt side couldn't keep up. This? I thought the scene was over but then it proceeds to go even harder and harder. Shit was brutal. Every time I watch something like this I'm reminded to want to kill myself halfway through a Hollywood action film because the dogshit camera cuts would kill me first if I don't.
I'm a little annoyed at what they left out and what they changed but honestly, someone who hasn't watched or experienced YYH would love this and I think that is more than good enough. The only issue I have is the final episode where you really have to suspend your disbelief to accept the conclusion to the fight. Both Toguros stole the show, Yusuke actor was great and wasn't overly dramatic. The wig on Kurama still looks bad. Kuwabara was great and I wish they used your average joe face or someone that is not conventionally good looking to portray him instead of another pretty japanese face. But he's good so that's fine. Hiei....uh, I don't know, he's there, I guess. Keiko? Damn, the added content was really good for her character and I love her actress.
I mean I'm sure if they wanted to, they could end this on the suzaku arc and cliffhang it with Toguro and make enough change to make it climatic yet leave the ending open to season 2 but I could see why they didn't want to seeing the insane production value that would make Dark tournament work and be good.
Other than that, this was obviously a product that had a lot of love poured into it.
