^Uh oh. Underage=Sanji. Not good.
New official Viz media topic V2.

-
I think Sanji's safe because he could pass for an adult, easily.
-
@The:
According to O-chan on Tz, volume 36 of Naruto got edited.
3 guesses as to which scene….looks at pic, then tries to make out the speech bubbles
Is he smoking or not? :wassat:
-

Well, our smoking age is 18 and Sanji's 19, so yep, he should be fine.
-
Really? Whoops my bad. Thought it was 21. Silly me.
-
I had a feeling they'd axe Shikamaru's cigarette….
-
They've been running anti drug ads in the magazine for a while and Sanji still has his cigarette.
-
Sanji's cigarette has been around since before the anti smoking ads. They can't get rid of it since he has it every hour, on the hour.
-
This post is deleted!

I just saw the June release date for the next volume. I should just learn Japanese. I could probably be fluent in it well before volume 51 is (ever) released in the US.
-
Amazon.co.uk doesn't have vol 20 yet, and they usually ship it a week before release and it's out tomorrow. It hasn't been delayed or anything has it?
-

For that reason, I'm kind of surprised that his smoking passed muster in the Japanese version of the anime. Usually, Japanese broadcast rules say that nobody acknowledged as under 20 (the age of majority) can be shown smoking. Maybe they get away with it because his age is never explicitly referenced on-screen. :wassat:
Of course, this rule has never applied to Jump…

I said years ago that while he is referenced as 19, Rainbow has reported him as to be 20, so who knows whats going on?

Same deal as high-school–based H-anime that are suddenly in COLLEGE when they get brought over to North America? (Not that I'd know anything about that…)
If Sanji really is the victim of censorship-related age shenanigans in the anime, that kind of annoys me, but I suppose it would be more troublesome if it affected the age relationships among the crew. As I recall, he's the oldest of the bunch aside from the three who are 30+ (Robin, Franky, and Brook), although it does slightly throw off Sanji and Zoro's rivalry. (If Zoro's a full year younger than Sanji, that kind of puts him at a disadvantage, doesn't it?

Luffy's younger then Zoro and yet look at their fight at Whiskey Peak.

I just got my Vol 20 from Amazon yesterday. It's pretty nice. Even the Diggy Diggy or Mutt Mutt did not bother me too much. I have a question though. Does Kenpo=Karate?
Anyway, it's pretty solid….

She's 28, isn't she?
yeah Robins 28.
Since Narutos site is focusing on shippuden now.. would that mean viz may switch to shippuden chapters or is there alot more Naruto chapters left in the series?

.com… I preordered it sometime last month.
Ah right.
I ordered mine from amazon.co.uk and they haven't sent it, and they usually send it out a week before release. Yesterday they still had it listed for May, but they've fixed it now and they say it'll be in stock in 7-13 days.

Their dispatch depot probably hasn’t even received the imports yet due to the hazardous weather in the UK at the moment.
Be patient.

Usopp's Pirate Gallery gets even more pathetic this volume with a total of one page. They don't always include it anyway so they should just drop it entirely.
-
Was Shikamaru smoking?
-
I must've been falling out of the sky or something at the time … And I dunno if it's a VIZ thing or not, but I don't want to make a new thread about how I'm considering getting this for my nephew's birthday.
But does anyone have this book or even know what it would have in it?
-
I've never seen that one before. But I have seen books from the same series (Mysteries and Secrets Revealed) about other manga. I remember seeing a Dragon Ball one, Fullmetal Alchemist one and even owned an Inuyasha one. Basically it's just a FAQ book about the series. (In this case One Piece)
-
Thinking about it now, I kind of remember a Naruto book that might have looked like this one. I might get it just because my nephew's 11 and he honestly needs something to get him interested in reading more. Since he likes One Piece too, it might be perfect.
-
I saw that book once and flipped through it. Whoever translated it….I didn't know what to say when I saw Spandam referred to as Morgan, and that Robin ''punished him heavily''. Do people not proofread stuff anymore?
-
Then it must be obtained for lulz. I could go through it with a highlighter for fun.
If it is that bad, I'd rather not give it to my nephew - no matter how wrong the spoilers are.

ICv2 has listed the top 25 Manga properties of 2008. Looks like One Piece finally reached the top 10 with the number 9 spot.
-
That is very pleasant news, although seeing as manga in general was in a bit of a slump this year, it's not as pleasant as it could have been. The manga/anime craze in America seems to have leveled out. But still, it means that on the level of manga, One Piece is doing very well, even if it and every other manga aren't doing as well on the global scale. The real shocker here is that it did so well despite only getting 3 volumes released in 2008. Perhaps this will make Viz realize that releasing 4 volumes a year and going back to one volume every 3 months would be a lot more profitable.
-
Or people just bought the earlier ones (unless those lists don't count that stuff).
-
Even people buying the older ones is good, if not better, for VIZ.
A lot of people who have been buying the One Piece volumes probably already have volumes 1-19 (or 20 if they've gotten to their local bookstore). If they are counting the older volumes, this means there are new customers in the market. New customers who may want to catch up to where Viz is now, and new customers and who will continue to buy as Viz releases 21 and beyond.
-
We have the apparent success of the Funi DVDs and the ever spreading word of mouth to thank for the VIZ sales. Maybe soon they'll translate the series like they're supposed to.
-
Its safe to say they do indeed check the overall sales of the entire series when they put these list together as Death Note Volume 1 has appeared numerous times on their monthly charts.
-
Can Viz now go by Zoro?
16 obvious nube questions
-
With Naruto being pretty much caught up in the States, I'm hopipng that Viz's other properities will see some love. It's pretty painful only getting 3 volumes of One Piece a year.
-
I just finished my volume, and I thought it was pretty solid. Aside from Barchan, they kept all of Crocodile's attacks foreign, and they even kept in Chopper calling Mr. 4 a daruma and they even slipped in a hell, even if it asn't being used as a swear. So aside from the usual neutered language and the Diggy and Mutt fruits, pretty good, as usual.
The June release date for Vol. 21 pisses me off knowing that they only have two chapters left to publish in the magazine however. I really, really hope that this accelerated schedule carries over to some of Viz's other series. Like One Piece, of course.
-
The Viz Media Panel at Comic Con was today. Outside of flapping their gums off about all the shit they're doing with Naruto for the umpteenth time the only news for the Jump Magazine was that Ultimo is tentatively starting in the July issue.

It also says that Yu-Gi-Oh! R is starting in October, I don't know if it means in the magazine or not. Not really worth being in the magazine with GX already being there.
-
YGOR? Heck yes. Really want to read that one.
-
Quick question that has nothing to do with Viz, since there are 2 or 3 users that go anal over bringing up the appropriate topic. When is Volume 52 coming out in Japan?
-
I read the latest releases of Naruto manga, they edited the cigarette out. The smoke came from the cigarette on the ground. The lighter was thrown instead of a lit cigarette. I cant remember wat they did for the Asuma becomes smoke thing, that might have stayed the same. Either way, Viz did everything they could, even withstanding awkward looking hands, to keep kids from seeing Shikamaru smoking. I dont like smoking personally, but it had sentimental reasons for it.
Also, One Piece is on the 4 month release schedule, next ones in June. I swear to God, Viz, all you do is release more stuff for Naruto. And for the love of God, STOP USING THE WORD FIEND!!! Its getting really annoying!
-
Even more Naruto? Ugh. Guess my hopes of One Piece getting some love have been quashed.
-
And for the love of God, STOP USING THE WORD FIEND!!! Its getting really annoying!
Random. . .
-
Well, if they keep the four chapters an issue, we may see an accelerated schedule.
-
I don't see that happening especially since they're adding more series to the magazine. Unless they decide to finally drop Yu Yu Hakusho and Bobobo-bo and they don't just replace them with others.
-
Yu Yu Hakusho is going to end soon anyway. So, perhaps, we may get at least another chapter a month after that.
-
Unfortuantely Viz really doesn't care as much about shonen these days than they claim…unless it's Naruto. Somehow I'm surprised it took them this long to get YGOR over but...I think they're running out of properties and this is one of the few ones left. But hey, at least Jump is doing better than Sunday...which still hasn't licensed Kenichi, ZKC or anything from there recently but already has licensed "unknown, unnamed, not started yet Rumiko Takahashi series". (I don't mind her BTW, I just feel scarred over her getting preference due to Viz's history and success with Ranma and IY)
As for OP...yeah, hopefully it could still get accelerated this year and throw us past Alabasta and Skypiea and up to at least a more recent arc like Water 7...or Thriller Bark. But that's hoping for too much from Viz.
-
Well, if they were to accelerate, it would be at Water 7, if they assume we've already seen most of Skypeia because of the show.
