Singing Mountain, pretty please… ;___;
New-Content II looks most promising to me. Is this thing, first seen in the video the so called "Dimension-Distortion-Dungeon"? Looks really nice. Takes the kid out of me again, kinda.
And the thing seen in the New-Content III Video is most probably the "Monsters-Arena", they were talking about. Seems like you can battle as a monster, you wish to be, against another preferred opponent.
The other way around, it could just be an "Let's see what happens if monster-X battles monster-Y"-thingie.
Enjoy the clips!
wow! that is a lof of NEW content. now I am interested in this re-release. (I already got the SNES and PSX version, so I wasn't too interested in this one, if just for one dungeon)
New-Content…eh, it looks good.
I've heard of this game for YEARS. So if I ever get a DS I guess I'll finally get to play it.
10 days til US release!
OK quick question, how do you guys feel about spending $40-50 on an NDS game that is basically a port of an SNES game but with extra content that are made using the same SNES hardware?

For Chrono Trigger, a reportedly amazing game that I've never before had an opportunity to play in any capacity?
…Where do I line up to give them my money?
if i didn't already own the game twice, i'd spend it. I'll wait till I can find a cheep used copy.
Is it true they removed Frog's old english way of talking?
I believe they redid it or something like that.

Im Renting it (thats if the item doesnt run low a day later like a few of my rental list games did.)
but then when i have the money, im buying it. I never played this game before so i dont want to miss out on this game this time around
If you want to play the game (JP ver. has English language option and the ROM is out), you'll need to apply a fix or patch for it to run properly.
oh that's so gonna hurt the NA market.
No it won't.
I'm just incredibly curious about this new boss.
! If it's really the Time Devourer and gives us the opportunity to rescue Schala (as some screens have suggested), then that would be incredibly awesome but also open up a can of plot-worms between CT and CC. Whatever, I just want to see these new dungeons myself.
Got the game today, along with the preorder bonus (mini cd with orchestrated song and orchestrated medley).
oh that's so gonna hurt the NA market.
Game's out on Monday(in the US) so there's no point in importing it, it won't hurt NA sales at all. Hopefully my local store will get it on import.
ah i didn't know that.
Just got to Proto Dome, game is awesome, though I would've preferred the music to be remixed or 'Orchestrated'
Other than that, X-Slash FTW.
have you played it before tizoc
I've been playing the Japanese rom (Didn't feel like waiting to get my copy on Monday). I like the new DS control layout, though it would appear they changed the script up a bit. Frog doesn't speak with thy anymore, mystics are called fiends now, and a bunch of the items have been renamed. Not that big of a deal though. I'm up to the Tyranno Liar (fighting the T-rex boss right now actually). It's been quite a while since I played CT, so I'm really enjoying it.
I do wonder about one thing and it has to do with the alt-ending and new dungeon. Does the game make it obivious where it is? I'm aiming for that, and I don't know whether they'll have it as like one of the side quests (such as the Rainbow shell, robo helping out with the forest), or something else?
I think the final new dungeon is accessed by checking the bucket after you've already defeated Lavos. At least that what the internet is saying.
I'm still floored by how ridiculous some of these new weapons are. Crono's new sword has a 90% chance to critical hit. WTF
And I thought the Rainbow/Frenzy Band spam-hit combo was overkill. 90% ? Yeesh.
why did they have to make it easier? it's not like it was a hard game in the first place. does this take away from the game?
Boss fights still seem the same as in the original version though.
How do you get the 90% Critical damage weapon BTW?
The list I have says "Completion Bonus: Time's Eclipse." I think that means you get it as a bonus for completing the new hidden dungeon's final boss.
Oh yeah before I forget-
In the Antiquity era, the books Order is Water, Wind & Fire.
DLing the Orchestra music now, hope Frog's theme is one of them X3

speaking of that, look what i found.
i watched it cause I'm not buying this game any time soon. It left me with a lot of confusion. I dunn know what;s going on.

Well I'm almost done beating the game, just one more sidequest, then I'll do the Ocean Palace in its remaining periods and in New Game+ I will try to get the other endings.
Never played Chrono Trigger, but I've heard great things. I may be picking it up this weekend.
I've finished all of The Fated Hour sidequests and I just finished the Black Omen. Yay for Charming speed tabs/capsules. Before I beat the final boss I'm going to check out these new areas.
In my file, I already am at the completion point sans Black Omen (except I never finished all of Lost Sanctum and don't plan on it until after I beat Lavos).
Ending so LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG
Alright, beat the game when I was in the Black Omen (Queen -> Lavos).
Anyways, it gives the normal ending (cats go in gate), the chrono cross playstation ending, THEN a new DS ending credits.
I blindly bought this yesterday for christmas….I love rpgs to death, but haven't played one in a few years. Is this one a masterpiece?
are you living under a rock? :) Chrono Trigger is THEE RPG!
Haha is it that amazing? Glad I bought it then
ill be playing it tomorrow if the mail service isnt delayed tomorrow
whats the 2 player stuff?

"Pikachu! I choose you!"
I swear if I have to climb ****ing Mount Emerald one more gorram time then I might have to choke a bitch.

Why does everyone complain about this?
It's so easy, I've never had any trouble and all the people I know in real life never complain but ONLINE…
Well, I have 1 vortex and I need to complete the Lost Sanctum.
All of my other things (except items at 75%) are in the 90's percentage wise.
After I complete those two areas and get all I can, I'll breeze through a newgame+ and get the endings.
Currently beat all the Final Hour sidequests, and I'm going through the Lost Sanctum stuff before I take on the Black Omen (one of my favorite parts of the game, don't ask me why. Maybe it's that awesome BGM). I like that having Magus in the lead of your party gives him some god damn dialogue in this place. Mah Boi got so few speaking lines in the original after he joined… Hell, the people in Guardia Castle in 600 AD never reacted to him! It's nice to see him get a little more fleshing out. Plus, I hear word he gets some focus in the new final quest (which supposedly ties up a few loose plot points that bridge Chrono Trigger and Cross, including what the EFF happened to Magus).
Also, I'm loving the new, more accurate translation they gave this game. It also seems like they refer to Magus himself as being the enemy of the war moreso than the old translation. War against the Fiendlord now, war against the Mystics then. I like this better, but that just might be my love of villain spotlighting talking.
I gotta say, though, I'm not overly fond of the mapping in the Lost Sanctum areas. I dunno, it feels less polished than the original areas. Like maps in an RPGMaker game using Chrono Trigger graphic rips.
^
He's got a lot more lines in the new areas than he ever had in the original game.
Actually, a lot of the characters have cool new lines now (which makes me mad, because some of those lines are VERY dependent on who is in your party and there is no save location so that you can try out the different combinations to see what their lines are).
Getting ready to play the last vortex now…
damn, maybe i will have to pick this up. all this talk of new dialogue
In an unusual move, the Japanese version of the game includes the English script as a selectable option in the settings. The game will automatically start in English if the DS console is set to that language.
No shit? Well, guess what I'm buying on the way home today.
^
Greg, the language switch can be done ON THE FLY in the options menu in the game. You just go to the settings and can switch without changing the region settings in your game.
Alright, beat all of Dimensional Vortex and got the new Magus ending and it FUCKING TERRIBLE IT BLOWS SO HARD!!
! Schala got trapped in a new form of Lavos named Dream-something (can't remember) and is trying to kill the Magus from that dimension. He gets knocked out and you have to beat the damn monster which is verying annoying because you have to use pure physical attacks and it does an annoying confuse move everytime you hit it that takes like 200hp from everyone. Anyways, after it's over, she tells you that there is no going back for her because she summoned it….AND SHE DIES. Magus says there is no point for him to live anymore so he makes himself lose his memory and leaves on a journey for a purpose until he's in what looks like 1000ad and feels like he forgot something he was looking for. He then sets out to get his memory back
It was really bad, but the new sword is awesome.

I beat the new end boss a few days ago, so I suppose I'll explain. It's pretty much there to tie Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross together better. After you defeat Lavos his remains fuse with Schala in the abyss beyond time and they eventually turn into the Time Devourer - which the whole story of Chrono Cross revolves around. You end up fighting them as the Dream Devourer, before they've fully transformed into the Time Devourer and Magus fails to save his sister and as a result looses his memory. This I believe is to probably set him up as Gil/Guile in Radical Dreamers/Chrono Cross. It's pretty annoying, not even really an ending. Just a bridge to Chrono Cross, and it's not worth $40 to play it.
Edit: The extra dungeons 'n stuff are not that great either. They're badly designed, and needlessly annoying. I do not like go through a long purposely super windy trail with several forced fights on it 20 or so times. It's just frustrating, and seems like an after thought.
Okie dokie, guess what I won't be buying on the way home.
Just buy it, it's just one fucking ending among a dozen many of which are more awesome than the one RuNa got.
…and really though its not like we've never played games where the ending wasn't interesting or disappointing despite how good the game plays.
Eh? There's new endings other than the Dream Devourer ending? I was under the impression Greg played CT when it came out, and thus had played to see all of the original endings. The only new stuff in the DS version is the Pokemon-like Monster Battle minigame, and the dimensional vortexes (with the one new ending).
Get it if you like Chrono Trigger, but aside from the new items, they new content is really all that great (the gallery items are cool, though).
I'll just have to put this in here on what I wanted from the new ending:
I don't like Chrono Cross. It's dumb, the plot is stupid, it should have been called something else. I was hoping that this ending would be an alternate look and possible set up a true sequel to this game but it does not and it's bad as it is.
Well, I'm getting ready to start going through the Lost Sanctum and then I'll have to level a character to 99 so that I can fight Red Spekkio and then I'll be at 100% for everything (besides the endings I get when I newgame+).
New stuff:
Arena of Ages: Train a monster to fight fights; You send a monster out to train while you play the game and come back to see it's stats level up. Fighting is like a less controlled pokemon. You can get some rare items here, but the new ones are Tier 6 and are accessories (cool, just found this out)
Lost Sanctum: Make the Epoch/Silbird and these will appear in 600ad and 65,000,000 bc. The reptites have survived, are nice now, and give you missions to do to earn new things.
Dimensional Vortex: After beating the Black Omen/Dream through 12,000 bc (and got the ending) you will have access to these vortexes in 12,000bc , 1000 ad, and 2300 ad. These vortexes are semi new areas (you have to go through seemingly random old areas first) in which you can earn the new ultimate weapons/equipment for your character. You meet Dalton and fight him again as well as fighting clones of Chrono, Marl, and Lucca in their respective locations (Marl and Lucca's bedroom and The Millenium Fair). After clearing these, you can access a "new" boss in the same bucket as Lavos and unlock a new ending and Chrono's Ultimate weapon.
Gallery: Keeps track of your data showing the endings you have unlocked, full monster data and how many you have found, full soundtrack, all cutscenes, Treasure Atlas with COMPLETE MAPS of the whole game, artwork, Technique info including your percentage, and full item data.

This is the new stuff and it integrates all of the playstation cutscenes in the game while showing the original ones with no load times on either.
Offers new ways to play using the touchscreen as well.
