@Hinscher:
if you reread the translation again
! Hancock: …...E... Elder Nyon... it hurts...... / pant // Am I......... / pant // ...going to die..................?
Nyon: ......... // Yes... you will...
Marigold: Wha... // What are you saying?!!! Elder Nyon, this is no time for bad jokes!!
! 17
Nyon: It was of this disease... that the previous Empress died.........!! / And as far as I am aware, it was the same for her predecessor.........
People: ?!!
Nyon: In truth, even I fled this island thanks to this very same disease... though I managed to survive it...
People: ...............?!
Nyon: We have a request to make of you. Will you at least hear me out?
Hancock: .........!!
Sandersonia: Now, wait one moment, Elder Nyon!! She is in no condition to be...!!
Nyon: It matters nyot......!! May I ask you all... to leave the room?
People: What?! But - !
Nyon: (...What incredible fortune!! Monkey D Luffy... have you actually managed to shift this mountain that no other could budge?!!)
She does not say that she is love-sick and that is why she is dying. She doesn't say that until way later after Hancock agrees to go with Luffy anywhere. Then she tells only her two sisters.
Also it seems many of you forget that the last 2 emperess' died of this love sickness and Nyou, which we don't know how many back she is (there have been 3 since her at least. 2 died of love sickness and now Hancock). Nyou didn't die because she left.
Why did the others die. Well they out on their adventures sometime met and fell in love with a man, but since their island is forbidden for men to ever enter adn they will be put to death. The man either came and died, or because of the rule the empress could not ever see her man and died cause of it. Nyou left the island, and managed to live cause she left to go find him.
I respect your theory but I don't think you understand mine :) I said the former 'former' empress is possibly Shakuyaku. Look at what she said regarding her.
"Nyon: It was of this disease… that the previous Empress died.........!! / And as far as I am aware, it was the same for her predecessor…......"
In the context she said it, its almost like she doesn't know if the other empress died at all but she is thought to be dead because the other Amazons said so. Plus we all know Shakuyaku must be fairly old too so it would make sense under those pretenses that she was the empress after Nyon left the island.
And than juiciest part of that quote you neglected to mention it was she said quietly to herself so that none of the Amazons could hear... She was almost glad Luffy had pulled off what he did.
Nyon: (...What incredible fortune!! Monkey D Luffy... have you actually managed to shift this mountain that no other could budge?!!).
In other words she is fooling everyone but the readers that this 'disease' is nothing more than someone falling in love. She is playing along to the amazons expectancies for this disease that had existed before. I am just really surprised some of you havn't caught this, its really blatantly obvious that she is actually happy this is happening to Hancock... if you want your theorys to be good you should examine why would she think it "fortunate" for her to get a 'disease' that would kill her unless everything she said before to them all was a lie to fool them. I said this in the spoiler thread. Don't take anything said to the Amazons, or by the Amazons, as fact. They know nothing of experiences with the opposite sex other than hearsay. Nyon is just trying to protect her and her sisters from the potential exiting Hancocks 'disease' might lead to.
