What if Sakuraba was thrown into the mix? Since most American football players are tall, they might need a tall receiver? No? Not even as a tight end? No? Ok.

I know that we've been used to the playing both ways Deimon Devil Bats players, but I'd be mildly shocked if they don't build up some depth on this Japanese team. (i.e.: Use Gaoh for D-Line only, use Shin as Linebacker only, etc. etc.) I'd expect most of the Devil Bats to sneak onto the team as some form of backup.
(I'm mildly surprised some of ya'll haven't delved into the starting 11 for Japan's Offense and Defense.)

I refer you to my post, The second to last post on page 92.
And thought of a thing we all have been overlooking, Coaches! a team gotta have atleast some coaching if theyre going to evolve to the next level in time for the america game. Id have the twinblades coach them with Gunpei on defense and Doburoku offering general training advice, helping the line with special emphasis on the TE. And id leave the general offensive planning to Hiruma since thats what he does best.
Spoilers are out! the lineup excluding those we allready know is for now is as follows
Linemen : Gaou, Kurita, Yamabushi, Banba, Ootawara, Mizumachi
Safeties: Riku, Marco
Receivers: Sakuraba, Tetsuma
Quarterbacks: Kid, Hiruma
Tight End: AkabaFuck yeah can i call it or what^^
and theyre going to have an open tryout for more players, And Gaoh puts Agon in his place.
-
Awwww, no Ha-Ha love? And what about kickers?
-
Well it seems Kotaro is in, Its not certain but according to a translator Akaba tells them that he will only play if Kotaro is on special teams. And there are plenty of places to be filled, They seem to be in agreement that the more players there are on the rooster the better.
Other than that Hiruma returns to japan and lands a fighter plane on the field with premade figurines of the exact teamline up without being told before hand, Panther utterly humiliates Morgan in a one on one showdown and i think he is thinking something about Apollo, and Gaoh has some serious problems with the concept of paper doors
-
Chapter's out and two characters definately stole it: Panther (for utterly embarrasing Morgan) and Gaoh (For…well, everything he did). Though the idea of a tryout for the rest of Team Japan...heck, with that, pretty much any other character who wasn't already selected could make the team! (or even those who never played football before, who knows)
-
Ohh according to the scans I read it wasn't kotaro as Akaba requirment, but Kotaro or musahi depending on the situation.
Man I wasn't sure about this at first, but this arc is really shaping up to be great.
-
I'm… really pumped now, though to be honest I was really pumped before Teikoku too.
Still it's hard not to be excited about this. Almost everyone I like is in here. We got Kid, Tetsuma, Sakuraba, Marco, and a bunch of other awesome guys, but I miss my classics. Juumonji... he just HAS to make the team. Here's to hoping he makes it during the tryouts. Yuki too. I just... I love Yuki.
Wonder if Taki will remain Tight End. The only other Tight End I recall was Akaba but he's declared himself a special teams player only. I feel like I'm forgetting a major tight end though. Regardless I'd love to see who gets Tight End or if that will go to someone special.
EDIT: Oh and can we all give a major w00t to Panther? That's just... epic right there. Fantastic pose, drawing, and execution. I'm excited to see the rest of the American team now.
-
Awww, I love Panther. He has such a good heart. And some broken abilities. (although the quasi-racist stuff seems to be on the rise, not that Japan would really understand all the subtleties of depicting minorities . . . .)
Hell yeah, try-outs! I definitely want Juumonji to pass, although now that it's try-outs all 3 Ha-Has might make it. Taki has a shot, Yuki . . . . . probably won't. He's a dear who has as much heart and spirit as anybody, but the plain fact is that his abilities just aren't up to snuff.
-
I was sort of hoping for the series to end already, but I'll have to admit with this lineup the match has the potential to become the greatest ever.
I'm just hoping one of the players selected at the tryout isn't some kind of a cliche "genius new guy who has never competed in any league before yet has superhuman abilities to rival the American team" new character.
-
If we get one he should be on the cupids.
Really though I think we have more then enough talent already. Maybe some middle tier person taking himself to the next level for the tryouts though.
-
Personally I sort of want to see a combination of new blood (players that played in Tokyo and Kanto but that we as the readers never got to experience because Deimon didn't) and old favorites from the tryout (it seems obvious from Sena's intention that he wants Takami to pass, perhaps leading to at least another tactician QB and the addition of the Everest Pass to their strategy). I say we just take next week with open minds since…well, it's down to "the rest".
-
I don't like the NFL superstar :(
I feel a hint of stereotyping.
Just a hint.
-
What was your first clue?
@Capt:

Well, it's as they said themselves, for a World Cup tournament they need as complete a bench as possible, as well as substitutes in case of injury. So this tryout will be to find the remaining bench and anyone who can step up in a pinch.
So I could see, say, Juumonji being selected for the line (the dude is the only lineman in the whole tournament to make a touchdown! That has to count for something), and the remaining Ha-Has taken in as subs. Same for Taki, and Komusubi. Yuki . . . . unlikely.
So, lets list the current roster:
Running backs - Sena, Yamato
Receivers - Monta, Taka, Sakuraba, Testsuma, Ikkyu (I think, didn't Agon want him?)
Safeties - Riku, Marco
Linebackers - Shin, Agon, Akaba (although seems to be limited to kick plays by request), Yamato? (I forget what Yamato's actual position is)
Line - Gaou, Kurita, Banba, Yamabushi, Ootawara, Mizumachi, Kakei
Quaterbacks - Kid, Hiruma
Kickers - Kotaro, MusashiSooo . . . yeah, that's a pretty big roster, but again, safety in numbers, I guess. As for new characters vs. old, I'm betting the Tokyo tryout will be all characters we've seen, and if we get any new they'll come from the Kansai area recruited by Yamato and Taka.
-
what could it hurt to have Yuki on the bench? That he could read into their plays and pull of the he sucks so much we dont even have to try trick against Agon with his god reflexes and Ikkyus air skillz and actualy have it work against those two. just shows that its basicly a one time only fool proof touchdown
And id wager Ikkyu is going to play CB with Taka, and im pissed that Akaba fucks up my dream team by not participating in the regular lineup. And i suppose Kakei could be moved to the line if Yamato edges him out, but i prefer him as an LB.
-
No he was just saying that the team couldn't look down on the kicking game. I'm sure he be on the starting line.
I think Agon, might double as tight end himself. He was only linebacker in that game so he could take on sena.
-
Agon is an all-rounder player, but I put him with the linebackers since I figured that's where he's most likely to start.
-

Kickers - Kotaro, MusashiWasn't Kakei a Linebacker? I might be confused but I thought he was. Also I have to assume Ikkakyu will be a corner back. Why make him a receiver when he's only a mediocre catcher and ridiculously short? He's been promoted as the best cornerback, so that's where I figure he'll stay.
Also it sounds like Akaba is solely going to be Special Teams which makes sense. There's still no designated Tight End however. I'm guessing that will be someone from Yamato & Taka's recruiting. And yeah Agon will play defense. His quick reaction makes him perfect for it.
-
Yeah officialy he is a Linebacker, but i think Satsuki is already well aware of that and just thought that in a lineup where there are plenty of superhumans LBs and fewer linemen he would work better on the line with his height/reach and blocking skills.
-
Well, Kakei can be either Linebacker or Line, but I put him in Line for now.
And yes, Ikkyu was a Cornerback, I forgot that. I just got so used to him going head-to-head with Monta that I forgot his technical position.
Yeah, no Tight End yet, but I bet someone can fill it, Kanto or Kansai.
-
I'm sure Akaba will be the tight end, he just saying that he won't be on a team the ignores the imporantence of kicking.
Afterall other then lead blocking for kick returns there nothing he can do that others can't do better.
-
I guess Agon and Akaba can be Fullbacks, a position the mangaka neglected all this time.
-
He (in my compete lack of football knowledge most of which comes form the manga or wiki) just tends to use runningback to cover both full and halfback. Yamato will most likey be doing that though.
-
@Capt:

Yes, but until this point the very thought of Special Teams was unheard of and you weren't a Safety or a Cornerback, you were a runner or a receiver on defense. We've seen that as the series continues we've been getting more and more detailed. I wouldn't have thought early in the manga that they would have mentioned Tight Ends and just said "receivers block sometimes!". They may start mentioned Fullbacks differently, in which case I'd assume Yamato would take that position.
Also I do believe Akaba will only play Special Teams. If he wants to prove a powerful kicking team is necessary then it makes sense for him to be there. Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds like he's just going to be playing on Special Teams which I have to say fits like a glove.
-
In deimons case there hasnt been any pure defensive player, Because they have no real defense. But in other teams there have been plenty of safetys and cornerbacks. And Akaba was pegged as fullback/leadblocker back in the bando game. And it cant be described how much loathe Akabas i only play on special teams deal, Your ruining a good thing ya jerk
-
Lol I want to see what the author thinks American linemen are like, seeing as how even Japan has a 5m tall highschool cave man in their line. They'll probably be like 15 meters tall and 10 wide and have two heads and eight arms or something. Receivers can probably fly and that Clifford guy is gonna teleport the ball straight into their hands.
CUZ BLACK PEOPLE HAVE SUPERIOR MUSCLES NO JAPANESE MAN CAN EVER RIVAL
-
Chap at onemanga and what a wild chapter.
! Kanto and kansi total number of passers: 4
! From kanto a unknown person wearing a bandages like a mummy. Takami and Juumonji were both mentioned by the chairman of coming close though.
! From kansi Achilles, Herc(my favorite member of the team!) and A MIDDLE SCHOOLER! Who's on the offence LINE! And he seems to be a sena fanboy.
! Other things of note no sign of akari, but Kid was QB so they had tetsuma as a extra reciver.
! Oh and for some reason Agon seems to want to bring Takami and the rest of demion with him the US?Now the question is who is the mystery man? Himura seems to know him and he was shown as a strong runner.
-
Interesting that we have a mystery player and a middle schooler (and future Deimon player) going…but I'm a bit surprised Achilles made it. Heracles makes some sense but Achilles really didn't impress me in the Teikoku game. Though...it's too bad Juumonji and Takami didn't get on.
-
The idea of the Kantou tryout had potential to be interesting but this chapter was really pretty boring after all, imo. Just a couple of really short scenes and no one we know was even selected.
Did Achilles and Heracles (and the quarterback for that matter) ever do anything in that Teikoku game? I can't remember because all the focus was on Taka and Yamato. Achilles at least I recall being tackled by Sena or something, I can't imagine him being very good. I'd prefer Juumonji anyway.
And of course they had to introduce some new characters, I guess it couldn't be helped. :/ I hope the mummy and the middleschooler (lineman, what the hell? Guess he has some weird techniques since he really can't be strong enough) will at least be mildly interesting.
-
Heracles was more interesting before the game when he was a goofball cosplayer. In the game…well, he was mostly the voice of the team while Yamato & Taka did the dirty work.
-
I'm disappointed to see Juumonji out, but we'll see where this Agon thing goes.
This new line man bothers me though. He needs to impress me because I don't like the idea of some random kid jumping into my line. Damnit the front five are what make the team! At least in the case of Deimon.
Wow, and Defense (or should I say DEFFENSE?) looks… awesome yet boring. There's not a single Deimon character there, and no one to really relate to besides Shin and Riku. Still, I'll be excited to see how things go.
I miss Juumonji already...
-
The fact that the chairman mentioned both Takami and Juumonji (still top players in Japan, just apparently not quite up to snuff for international) makes me think that they will have more of an impact that people think.
I'm sad we didn't see cooler tryout (one chapter!?) but I was definitely surprised at the end. Mummy guy? Middleschooler? And ALL 3 Ha-Has, Onihei, and Komusubi!? Dayum.
Who knows what Agon is thinking. He may just be using them for fodder so he can get that NFL spot.
-
Given Hiruma's reaction, I'm guessing the mummy-man is Habashira Rui.
-
Ooooo, good prediction!
Although I'm disinclined to think so given the shape of the face, but it's still possible!
-
Seeing how "ordinary" and "hard-working" he is to Hiruma and the others, I think it's going to be Agon's older brother.
-
Given Hiruma's reaction, I'm guessing the mummy-man is Habashira Rui.
I would soooo dearly like to believe that. And also Agons going to bring Onihei fuck yeah:happy:
The rest of the lineup looks perfect. I cant see how anybody could get past that defense.
-
Man I forgot how fond I became of Habashira, I would love for it to be him. Heck it been over a hundred chapters since we seen him last, he deserves a comeback.
My first thought was the sphinxes QB, but that was purely because of the mummy thing. Deep down I doubt it's him. It's probery a newcomer, but we can hope.
-
I thought of Rui Habashira,too, but I guess I am too late…
I didn't see Musashi anywhere. Did he make the Japan team? Or was he with Agon and the others who didn't make the tryouts? Haven't seen him...
Okay, so the world cup really will consist of teams all around the world. For some reason, I thought that it was just going to be the game Japan vs. America, and then it'd be over.
No. Now I have to most likely sit through another 200 chapters of football games.
Don't get me wrong, I like the series, but the 30+ long chapters of playing can be very tiring, epecially if you read them weekly. I like the in-between gag chapters the most, with some Sena/Suzuna and Hiruma. -
Few thoughts:
1. I really wished they showed more characters we know of outside Deimon's and Takami in the tryout. It's like no other characters outside the big "characters" had a chance. At least give them one last hurrah before throwing them aside.
2. Not too many characters in this series are known as "hard workers"…outside being someone new, my best thoughts are either Yukimitsu (but he really couldn't have improved that much) or Usui (since most of the main Shinryuji characters are on and he may want to teach Agon a lesson)
3. Inagaki said there probably are approximately two years left...in my head, that means outside any wild cards, most of the teams outside the Americans won't be shown as that major threats and the games will mostly be short-ish. -
2 whole years! Thats is something along the lines of 100+ chapters, Thats just about everything that happend from the end of the naga game to the present. thats beyond awesome. A really long game is at most 40 chapters, and an average one is about 25 or so we could be looking at about 3 deimon matches and a few skimmed rival games.
And im definitly intrigued by the russians and want to see them go far team. Cant really tell what the middle one is supposed to be, China prehaps? Or south korea? And the indian team is going down big time
-
Seeing how they are still in war fatigues, i'm gonna say Iraq. :p
And I figured out another reason why I'm gonna stick to my "bandaged guy is Usui" idea; the bandaged guy doesn't have long-ass arms.
-
I think this tournament actually feels natural. What with how Panther's arc is being tied in and Hiruma's past as well as the arc surrounding the Americans, I think it works.
However, I'm not sure how this whatshisname, the white American player…dang, I don't remember his name, however I'm not sure how he's going to be any different from any of the other arrogant ducks.
-
Clifford doesn't seem that bad, he just seems a little too starry-eyed with what Morgan can offer. Besides, if Homer becomes the American Team's backup, then that's at least one more good character to stand up to the jerkwad coaching them.
-
Clifford, that was the name!!!
-
I wonder if anybody got around to telling Inagaki that almost nobody in America names their kid "Clifford" anymore, partly because it's become synonymous with a big red dog.
-
I never met a clifford in my whole life. And Chuubou or whatever the little new guy is most be something. I mean he was put in the offensive line without question
-

Clifford doesn't seem starry-eyed at all, if anything I get the feeling he is rather disgusted with Morgan, and he and Panther seem to be almost friends. He seems to be a pretty intense competitor, and I wonder if he's an old teammate of Yamato?
-

Clifford seems more accepting of Morgan than Panther…but Panther's coach was dropped from an NFL team cause of that jerkwad so there's a difference. Personally I just wish that Team USA would just get rid of Morgan before the series ends...but then they'd need a real coach.
-
Well it's pretty clear form panther's improvement that apollo could do. Heck who is japan's coach going to be? Prehaps the chairman?
I wouldn't say accepting as much as realistic. Morgan is the coach so he deal with it.
-

Is Morgan the coach? It was said that he was the chairman of the world american football youth league or something like that, but i've never heard him being refferred to as coach.
