Well, I think Oda had said that he was drawing wings and whatnot on his characters just for giving them different designs. But I feel like he could at any moment drop some kind of retcon on us and say "yeah, the winged people have super powers and whatnot"

RE: American Politics: A Brand New Day
That's because we went through 5 different republics, 2 empires and various kingdoms from the first revolution to 2021 (and also through the Vichy regime :ninja:). And there are lots of people going around like "this is how DeGaulle wanted it". I guess it only works if it's an unifying leader figure though. Robespierre doesn't work that well.
-
RE: Chapter 1,032: Oden's Beloved Blade
While I absolutely agree with the overall "show don't tell argument" you guys defend at least on the bolded part I think it's fair to say that if the Revolutionary Army is concerned the WG will not get the Marines involved as they jurisdiction have to be the seas, respectively keeping piracy in check. So dispatching CP0 would make more sense as ithat seems to be their jurisdiction.
Okay but would the CelestialDragons send the CP0 if they had no chance against Dragon + Sabo ? That was my point, and why I compared them to an admiral. Fujitora and vice-admirals were sent on Dressrossa to protect Doflamingo (or whatever was their goal I can't even remember) from the SHs + Law alliance. But to Baltigo, it's just CP0…
-
RE: Chapter 1,032: Oden's Beloved Blade
Of course, since it has been off-screened we can barely even talk about that Baltigo incident. That's the core of the problem, for me. Everyone can speculate and speculate about what really happened. But as a matter of fact, CP0 was sent there and not admirals, also Dragon said that "CP0 got really powerful in the last years". So yeah, I wanna see what they're actually capable of.

RE: Official Wano Thread
Not going to go through 70 pages…but what's the consensus on the idea of the Mugiwara fleet showing up in Wano at some point? I just re-watched the episode where Sabo made a vivre card for Luffy...so it seems like it would be feasible for the fleet to head over once they hear about stuff going down.
It was probably a foreshadowing for something even bigger. Since the beginning of Wano, we've been many to say that there are enough allies in Wano to take down Kaido.
Moreover, it would take days to get there while there is only 5minutes left before Onigashima crushes the flower capital…So they're either coming to prevent the marines "to arrest" everyone, or they just don't come
But yeah, I don't know what Oda had in mind when he foreshadowed this. The endgame war "that will engulf the entire world" ? Of course the fleet is gonna be part of it, I expect literally anyone on the planet to take part on it, lol

RE: American Politics: A Brand New Day
Imagine living under a Republic driven by "Manifest Destiny" for over 200years… of course people will sculpt the giant heads of some of their presidents on a mountain.

RE: Chapter 1,032: Oden's Beloved Blade
You mean Akainu?
If I were a character in One Piece I would run from that guy as well. As fodder, as top commander, hell even with Yonkou powers I would think thrice and then still flee. The stuff he did was just way too graphic for me.
Or are we talking about another incident? I don't remember Teach ever clashing with CP agents.
I'm not talking about the moment when Jewelry Bonney was captured. But about the "Baltigo incident" that has been off-screened. IIRC, Dragon and Sabo were there, Teach and Co showed up, the revolutionaries ran away and then the CP0 minions showed up AND THEN Teach and Co. ran away.
Depending on how many they were and the non-importance of the fight, I understand why Dragon retreated. But Teach, is he that much of a coward or are there people as strong (or stronger) as Marco in the CP0 ?

RE: American Politics: A Brand New Day
Who's Sam Hyde and why do we care if he's defending himself?
I'm pretty sure that this is a meme.
-
RE: Chapter 1,032: Oden's Beloved Blade
I'd rather see those goons fight supernovas instead of Robin and Brook. As I said on the spoiler thread : I wanna see what the CD minions -the same ones who supposedly made Teach and his crew run away- are capable of. But I guess all of that will be cut

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
You misunderstand again by assuming that I'm implying 'friendship'.
I'm saying that what I wrote, doesn't suggest anything about any kind of friendship. In other words, I wrote 'they must have hit it off' but that doesn't imply anything about friendship/closeness. Simply that Blackbeard recognized something in Shiryu that would/could be beneficial.
Oh ok, fair enough then. I can agree with that.
I always thought that the expression "hit it off" was like the triggering of at least a friendship. Appears, it may not be the case
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
I may be wrong, but I didn't think the "you can't" referred to any specific person, instead it was more likely a figure of speech.
It's even more unlikely that it referred to you, since the poster wasn't even quoting you.
Just because this is your topic doesn't mean every single post we make is addressed at you.
Yeah pretty much this. I mean, this part of my post was me speaking generally
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I trash talk my closest friends more than anyone else.
Even when they’re dying on an ennemy’s island ? I mean we all do just like Sanji/Zoro, but maybe not like Shiryu
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Nothing about that suggests anything about friendship unless you assumed it does.
Yeah I think it suggests a lot actually. Especially the Thatch incident. But as wolfwood said, maybe there is a difference with the original crew and the ImpelDown crew
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
I'd love to see everything after Wano cut away from the manga and only be a live-action series thing
About the time-skip. I wish there won't be any. But Oda can change his pacing style yeah
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
We've gone from Luffy defeating a corrupt scientist, to a black market king Warlord, to an Emperor officer, to an Emperor in the New World. Gonna have to up the stakes somehow in the event of going to Elbaf.
Well, that's one way to see things. But I'm more of the opinion that Loki will be an ally as soon as possible. Like, they could get there and discover the Kingdom or whatever it is. And then Luffy can have his fight but more like a friendly fight I guess. There is "no time" (unless there is) to have a whole arc of years about Loki being evil and all the exposition about it, also have a crew-threat bigger than Kaido to be elaborated, and finally have Luffy lose 3 times and him running around all over their island for 30chapters before finally defeating Loki…
Also you're missing that all the NewWorld until now has been pretty much about building up Kaido (except Bigmom territory + Vinsmoke arc). So yeah, I can't see Oda rising the stakes for Loki when we've had Caesar, Doflamingo and Kaido before... the next big threats are Teach and the WG.
imo, Elbaf is going toward being an arc like Zou or the Davy Back Fight...

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
About the color spread of the right-hands. To me it just seems that Shiryu is the second by strength and maybe not by hierarchy (if there is any).
"they must have reeeeally hit it off" -> In my opinion, the whole BB crew are only together by interest and not friendship. Like, they probably even dislike each other. It's maybe far-fetched but I'm basing this on Shiryu's reaction when Burgess called Lafitte for help in Baltigo. But not only this, I don't remember if this was against Ace OR during Marineford when getting the Gura Gura no mi, but some crew members were wondering who would be the captain if Teach died. It gives you the vibe of the crew…
It just goes to show how opposite the SHs are to the BB pirates in terms of values
I wouldn't be surprised if BB's crewmembers were sometimes literally fighting each other. Or even defying their own captain in a battle to get his place.
When you look at what Teach did to Thatch. And when you know that everyone knows it (because that's pretty much one of the elements that triggered the marineford war). You can't just think that there are any friends in BB's crew

RE: Dexter
! Oh yeah, I had to google it to understand what it is. So it's kind of the same thing that happens in Rebel Without A Cause, right ? Except that it's boats, and they are heading on each other.
Hum, IIRC he headed on the other boat even though the other dude had changed his trajectory. It's a very douchey move, but like, did he just kill that boy based on one sole testimony ? It seems so. But afterwards I don't know, this series may be a little bit more fucked up that I used to remember haha -
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
There probably won't be a villain in Elbaf. They'll eventually befriend the giants I guess
-
RE: Dexter
I don't know why they revived it. Like are they expecting the same fanbase ?
I watched the first episode and
! maybe I didn't pay enough attention but did he just kill someone who's not that bad ? Anyway, I was 13 last time I watched this show, so maybe I misremember stuff

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
I wish I could!
But we just have to be patient, I bet in 10 or 20 years the computer-generated imagery will be so advanced that we won't need actors anymore, just the legal rights to their faces.
!
The CGI is already that advanced. At least, they say it is. There has been a project of resurrecting James Dean in the last years. Rights for the movie were bought and all. But I don't know where the project is nowadays. Covid probably slowed a lot of things. It's frightening though

Nah, we'll only get to Elbaf in the sequel. It was only mentioned in One Piece for world building.

RE: Chapter 1,031: Warrior of Science
As you should, what I’m talking about (and you know it) was your sketch of being a sommelier of jokes
I didn’t «know» anything.
And that wasn’t remotely my intention. But yeah I guess calling Bergman «poop» is funny because

RE: Chapter 1,031: Warrior of Science
uh oh guys the Fun Police is here
I’m just reminding the hypocrisy of this moderation. Keep having fun
-
RE: Chapter 1,031: Warrior of Science
Yeah, that was the point. It was just an easy pun, with ironic connoctations Id say, since Bergman is a very accomplished and regarded author.
I dont think it was personal, Mr Grown Up.Wolfwood was right, the art film crowd didnt take that joke well.
You don’t know what a pun is
Bore-man would have been a punAnd again, someone has been treadbanned from the entire spoiler threads for making this kind of comparisons with Oda

RE: Chapter 1,031: Warrior of Science
And YES I'm comparing my "Turdman" joke to The Onion, I just woke up and I'm feeling sassy.
What's even the joke? wtf. At least the onion is satirical, this here just feels meaningless

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Pretty much confirmed in Volume 100 with its cover.
I don't think it confirmed it. But that's slightly suspicious yes

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
Imagine being in the cast and having to read a thousand chapters of the series to be taken seriously by the fans, haha. I mean, yeah, what else ?
-
RE: Chapter 1,031: Warrior of Science
I remember a poster being "warned" for using weirdly romanized names on this forum. Because "it was making fun of the Japanese accent/pronunciation" apparently…
More like Ingemar Turdman, as I've always called him.
Sounds dumb but whatever I guess. This is "the best rubber-pirate forum in the world" whose average age is beyond 25. Dizniy > melodramatic cinema, amiright ?

RE: American Politics: A Brand New Day
Is there room to be a normal right-winger in the US ? From what I see Trump roped the entire GOP in the far-right
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Yeah, I wonder how many SHs will have chosen Haki by the endgame. Luffy and Zoro are confirmed. Next will eventually come Ussop. If Zoro has it, Sanji will need to figure out a way too. And there is Yamato who is on the way to joining…
-
RE: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part II: Do the Dio Walk!
So Stone Ocean will have. PT-Br dub. Dunno how to feel about that.
What does that mean ?
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Jinbei may have been "too strong" to join right after the war. But now, it's alright. Oda probably knew this. Like, why didn't he join right there and dealt with his problems while being in the crew ? Just like Robin and Sanji ? Because Oda wrote his story to make him dramatically strong
-
RE: It's been so many years and I am still baffled by Oda's weird sexism
Hey, but do kids care about how LGBT people are portrayed in their favorite manga ? I guess someone had to introduce this question, lol
Because by the time the story came to Iva's kingdom I was like 15 and slowly getting outta the main target of "OnePiece" I guess. Don't really know what I would have thought 2 years earlier that.
What I thought about Bonclay when I was 12 ( I think I was more or less that age ) ? I thought he was bizarre, and also couldn't care less about this character even though his power was cool. Same when he came back in prison. But hey, it was supposed to be a villain right ? So what was I supposed to think as a new middle-schol boy ? And during the prison arc, I somewhat started to like him when he became "good" and befriended the main character. Because for me it's only at the moment when he was dragging poisoned-Luffy in the snow (still in prison) that he became a "good guy". Before that during Alabasta at their departure, I couldn't understand less what had triggered their friendship. Like maybe I missed something super important, but I read One Piece only once (yeah, unlike some of you I don't have the determination to read it multiple times haha…).
Yeah, let's do some introspection everyone ! -

RE: Chapter 1030: Echoing the Impermanence of All Things
Imu was bound to exist. But the seniors of this forum spent like a decade despising the fact that the WG had a huge role to play in the final war, that now it became "bAd wRiTiNG". I mean, apparently it still is a worldwide super-secret, just like the name of the gorosei dudes. And maybe Imu is a redherring, who knows. But I'm glad we're done with the persons insulting others for believing that the WG had a leader of some sort, wether it was one of the gorosei dudes or something someone shomewhere…

RE: It's been so many years and I am still baffled by Oda's weird sexism
Yamato didn't struggle against Ulti in the manga, and Luffy had to resort to Gear 4th (if Yamato hadn't intervened) because he was grabbed by a tight dino grip, which is totally fine. Nothing more than that.
We have the eternal habit of thinking about power levels as single numbers which are measured against each other like a "Top Trumps" game, but every practical confrontation is more complicated than that. Luffy is obviously much stronger than Ulti and should beat her 999 out of 1000 times, of course, which doesn't mean that Luffy can casually get away from her grip if he gets caught in it.
Yeah, but, why was he even grabbed in the first place ? Also, it kinda makes you wonder what Luffy is worth without his Joyboy DF there.
I know people on this forum will pretty much all disagree. But at this point it's not a matter of power-level conversation but just continuity. It's day and night
As I said, I'm really looking forward to what will happen to Page-One and Ulti -
RE: It's been so many years and I am still baffled by Oda's weird sexism
It feels like Oda's opinion has somewhat changed since Kuina complaining about her chest. I mean, I was 10 back then when reading Zoro's flashback. And I had kinda laughed when I read that because yeah, that's not the reason why women are usually physically weaker, lol Oda. I mean, is it ?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Ulti and Yamato also seemed pretty strong even without using their devil fruits.
Looking back at it, this Ulti really didn't make any sense though haha. Like, a few minutes later you'll see the same persons struggling against Ulti actually hurting the-strongest-beast-in-the-world.
I mean, maybe they've been introduced as future recruits for Law or Kidd's crew. But otherwise, I don't even get why she was there along Paypay. Getting one-shot by Bigmom and scarring the weakest of the SHs ? wow
-
RE: Random News Article Discussion II

Let's take what I've said with a grain of salt though. I don't know how the law is applied across the ocean :ninja: and all that....

RE: Random News Article Discussion II
Well, I haven't followed and scrutinized the whole story. BUT, as far as I know Alec Baldwin isn't going to jail. The assistant director and the producer of the movie are more responsible

RE: DUNE (beware book spoilers)
Well, I felt like only a third of the first book was covered. There are many charismatic characters in the film. But many "disappear" or die too early.
Timothée Chalamet was good for once (for me, again). I felt like he was getting out of his confort zone a bit. Especially in the "futur" scenes, where (yet he doesn't talk) but looks more like a charismatic-leader. Overall I liked the movie, maybe because it was dark compared to StarWars movies. Chalamet has more work to do I guess for part two, especially on his body. He's supposed to be a warrior iirc, but he's slim though. I'm not asking to look like a rugby player, but putting on a bit of muscle mass would make him just credible.
! The whole point is to transform him into a charismatic leader and the subtext is kind of about the danger of having charismatic leaders in real life. Like, I can agree on that and disagree too, it depends on the mentality of the leader in question. When Herbert wrote his books, he obviously had Staline and Hitler in mind. And not Nehru/Gandhi, Ho Chi Minh or Thomas Edward Lawrence.
But why is the character of Paul shitting himself when he has those visions about his future, like " oh no, not the djihad"(Villeneuve -or someone else- turned the word "djihad" into "holy wars" because political correctness I guess…) Dude, wtf, it's you or it's not you ? I don't remember this in the books, but I might be wrong-- not sure.
About part two, I've read somewhere that Villeneuve was thinking about making it a trilogy (at least, because there will be tv-shows too). -

RE: James Bond Thread
! and there is absolutely no reason why the man named James Bond can't have a competent female co-star whom he doesn't have sex with for once.
! There is also Ana de Armas in the movie. Anyway, Bond was in love in this movie. And had sex once (with Léa Seydoux at the beginning of the movie in Italy) I guess.
I know I'm not answering to anything here, just commenting… -
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
@Devil:
Sadly people who think that “Yamato is too strong” think that way. Yamato joining will threaten their favorite characters (this case Zoro/Sanji).
It just makes sense though. And enough of this rhetoric of "haha Zoro the virile man is so fragile compared to a trans character" It's so edgy and cringe-worthy, we really don't need that.
And I'm quoting this post but it's far from being the first time I see this kind of post.Anyway, Oda seems to be giving to Sanji and Zoro proper power-ups in this arc. So, we'll see I guess
-
RE: Movies that don't deserve their own thread
I'm not sure, but I think one of the trailers shows the longest scene with a sandworm. This one here (at the end)
except that the scene is longer in the movie. I don't think there is any other scene where we see an "entire" sandworm. It's the money shot of the movie I guess haha (at least for sand worms) -
RE: James Bond Thread
I'm not sure of where they're going with female 007. Like, it's not James Bond anymore, so… wut ? This last years we've been getting more and more strong female characters in the movie industry. I don't think we need to touch to James Bond.
