Luffy's bounty doesn't even matter to me anymore. It's gonna explode. I'm more interested in the others to how big they can get by the end of the story

RE: European Politics Thread
Putin is going to take this as a huge political hit and probably not last long (maybe until Russia has 100% control over most of the key areas of Ukraine)
Are you talking about the future sanctions on Russia ? I don't really get your point though
Turkey will in the highest of likelihood block the Bosporus (encouraged by the West) at some point to place strain on Russian access to the Mediterranean/Black Sea, which will force Russia to start a war with Turkey as well.
Turkey isn't Ukraine, and is part of NATO. But I'm curious about how Erdogan's stance will evolve, as of now he just condemned the invasion.
@Monkey:
Xi is (unlike Putin) very interested in international stability.
What makes you genuinely think that ? Aren't Taiwan and HongKong somewhat threatened ? And the south Chinese sea thing.

RE: European Politics Thread
Ursula von der Leyen declared that the Ukrainian refugees are "welcome". Let's see how the governments of each countries react to that… IIRC, the same thing was said about the Afghans (by von der Leyen).
Also, I wonder how the 100k Ukrainians (more like millions imo) driving away from Putin's bs have crossed the frontiers while normally people are usually getting stomped for doing so.
Ukraine isn't part of Schengen.I mean, hopefully they all get safe. But I feel some hypocrisy there. Of course, it's been a while since there was a war at Europe's frontier, so maybe legally that changes everything. Don't know enough about that. But even then, if I'm not mistaken, legally speaking, governments have to recognize that such country is at war in order to welcome their refugees.
Looking forward to how NATO and all the others will react...

RE: Side characters
I think Oda missed something with Koza. He should have made him as strong as Wiper. Anyway, it's probably my favorite "side" character.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The guy who asked where Roger hid his treasure, he's the one that started it all.
Wonder what the WG did to him..
lol, I can only imagine.
I mean, even though it's anime only. This guy became a meme

RE: European Politics Thread
From what I hear the far right can basically never win a french election at the moment. Not without majority support. The way french elections are structured, they will probably do well in round 1, but after that everyone who hates the far right will vote for the other guy (macron). They hate Macron, as french people always hate their president, but they hate the far right more. Most french still hate the far right and the structure of french elections favors centrists.
Yes the French elections have two rounds. But it's not 2002 anymore (second round won by Chirac with 82%), the far-right has been getting closer and closer to sit their ass at the government in the past years. Just have a look at the last elections in 2017, and compare the numbers with the current campaign's polls.
Lepen went up with 10% more votes since 2017 for the second round.Anyway, the very last polls are favoring Pécresse over Lepen for the second round. Which may imply some stuff that I won't judge on this quickly.

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
I don't get it. No one had mention any pronoun when you wrote your first comment, it was just "Oden".
So you speak Japanese but you don't wanna enlighten us ? Or you just have some basics in linguistic or Japanese ? Or maybe you're saying that there is a "we" and we should do some exegesis on the text to figure out stuff ? I'm really lost.Anyway guys, all this is fun. But Oden during the flashback wasn't at any moment considered to be an apprentice on whatever crew. I think the flashback is a more tangible source than the interpretation of a pronoun in chapter 820. But again, that's just my opinion and I'm not trying to jeopardize the job of paid translators…
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
wtf, "Oden" was just not written there. As for the pronoun thing, I've said that we should wait for a Japanese speaker to enlighten us.
And to be fair with the other translators, it sounds more like "Viz vs the rest of the world". But whatever I guess.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Viz added Oden's name in the volume release for context, in the weekly release it was just "he":
[HIDE]https://i.imgur.com/IgWXA0j.jpg?1[/HIDE]That moment when the existence of a pronoun written 4years ago changes the whole theory about Yamato's role in the crew :ninja:
More seriously, we'll have to wait and see for someone fluent in Japanese to show up because every other translations say "we" (Neko+Inu) and not "he" (Oden).
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Strenght simply has nothing to do with it.
And this is where this conversation should have ended pages ago. Agree to disagree.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
I have it
Thanks, doesn't seem to be mentioned to me. I mean it's not, lol
Kozuki Oden 光月おでんedit: I hate to do this though, the whole translation and wording stuff
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Nightgrinder and Cookie are correct about the translation:
[HIDE]
https://i.imgur.com/nrqVXji.jpg[/HIDE]Well, yeah it's the viz translation right ? So, they didn't even bother correcting I see…
Anyway, every other translation I saw do not even mention Oden in that bubble, wether it's other English translations, French or Spanish. Even in the anime I can't hear "Oden" at this moment.Quick google search and, it seems like during the Oden flashback this chapter has been brought up and speculated among the fandom.
I mean, if someone could find the raw and look if Oden is written. That'd put an end to this. I searched and couldn't find the Japanese version.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Inuarashi is just making a comparison, "in generational terms" he says. But Yamato is older than Luffy. Also, this translation there completely contradicts the story where Oden was commander of the second fleet of the WhiteBeard pirates and then becomes an apprentice on the OroJackson…
That's funny because Inu and Neko were the actual apprentices.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
I just checked and Oden isn't even mentioned there. There has probably been a correction. Inu is making a reference about himself and Neko, not Oden.

RE: Chapter 1,034: Sanji vs. Queen
According to the wiki, Ifrit is arabic…
And here I was scratching my head at my lack of French vocabulary…
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
What makes you think that Kaido "didn't need" to be apprentice on Xebec's ship ? Maybe he wasn't strong enough, who knows. Nothing says that he was a natural monster like Bigmom.
Same thing goes for Marco. I don't know what memories you kept from the flashbacks, but he was never seen fighting against Rayleigh… (unlike in the anime where he gets obliterated)
There is no reason at all to think that apprentices can go toe-to-toe with yonkous...
-
RE: Chapter 1,034: Sanji vs. Queen
Just noticed that the BeastPirates have a huge harem on Onigashima… This or I forgot something, which is likely too.
-
RE: Chapter 1,034: Sanji vs. Queen
Because Sanji had repeatedly told him not to. They may be enemies trying to kill each other, but that doesn't mean they can't show respect. If I was the grandson of Hitler and had my name legally changed and you still called me by it (after I asked you not to) and constantly brought up Adolph Hitler, it would be fair to be offended.
I would be pissed too to be part of that family. But what Queen said isn't wrong in itself. And calling it "evil" isn't quite correct. Lots of people in real life say that line without being "evil" or anything close to it.
But I guess that depends on everyone's moral values.Anyway, this here, and the stuff about Jinbei calling Who'sWho a racist. Oda is going all political these times. (not that it didn't happen in the past)
-
RE: Chapter 1,034: Sanji vs. Queen
https://i.imgur.com/Tkve1lr.jpg
So Queen is that type of villain? Okay that's evil alright.
For context: Queen associated Sanji with the Vinsmoke name, which he is, and then Sanji got offended…

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
@Zik:
The Golden age ended with Whitebeard's death.
The story is currently in the New Age of piracy.
Whatever you're naming it. I'm talking about the "great age of piracy" then, maybe it's better wording. Which everything after Roger's execution is part of, and will be until the endgame of this series.
Maybe there won't be any more pirates after the Dawn, but that depends on how 900years of history will be fixed.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Rereading some of the arguments, and still don't get why Yamato is seriously being discussed as a future apprentice. People seems to think that apprentices in pirate-crews do an internship to learn navigation, navigation and navigation. Because let's be honest, folks are being very unclear about what her role would consist in. Finding treasures… something that none of the SHs did since 2003... I'd love this idea to be necroed, but it's been so fucking long, I don't even believe in it anymore.
As for "ship guard", as said above it would exclude Yamato from a lot of adventures. And I feel like it's time for the Sunny to have his own soul like the Merry and to protect himself somehow... I hope Oda hasn't forgotten this idea.
Concerning the gag of Yamato being too strong to be an apprentice and this being great, well, it would quickly become redundant imo. And it's not a joke/gag if it's a permanent status (at least permanent until x event as others say). The comparison with Jinbei being a helmsman doesn't even work I guess, I mean I can't remember anyone saying "wot mate, is this warlord a mere helmsman wtf????" Maybe I missed it though
@Zik:
Whether history ends or not piracy will still exist after the dawn or final war.
At least, the golden age will be over as there won't be a OnePiece anymore. And of course that depends on how this manga ends. But neither of us know this.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
To be fair with you, except for the OnePiece itself, the last time I heard about an actual real treasure in One Piece was when Shanks proposed a map to Buggy to find whoever's treasure it was during the Marineford war…
Bigmom was already sailing before Rocks and had at least a bounty of 500million. I doubt she was an apprentice. And nothing says she was. Whether it's by strength or "piratey" attitude, she wasn't an apprentice.
Please, make your point instead of trolling. This or you're drunk af considering your entire post
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Everything that can bring a sequel forward in time (yeah, I'm excluding time-travel lol) is to be banished imo, just like the idea of a journal of the SH crew kept by Yamato. It'd mean that someone will one day read that journal and follow Luffy's path… Anyway, I'm also saying that because I feel like the whole "Dawn" stuff sounds a lot like "ending history" as some writers think that history has an end.
Now watch me getting trolled for having brought up such a subject to this forum.
-
RE: Chapter 1,033: Shimotsuki Kozaburo
I meant it more like : when he'll become the World'sStrongestSwordsman, he'll be bored and will need some hobbies. Just like Mihawk is spending is time gardening.
But now that you've said this, a sequel with Zoro traveling through time to fight strong swordsmen (or why not sword-woman) would be fun. Anyway, Onimaru being his companion of travel is more likely

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
@Zik:
Knowing the difference between the crow's nest and the starboard side.
You mean vocabulary ?
You know, how to operate and function on a ship.
I'm sorry but I'm not quite getting what you guys are trying to get at. All that matters is strength to be honest, that's why Bigmom wasn't an apprentice but Kaido was.
Then more piratey things from looting towns to searching for treasure.
The SHs never did that, except once on Shandora.
-
RE: Chapter 1,033: Shimotsuki Kozaburo
The only "book-smart" in the crew is Robin. Who is also "street-smart" given her history of running away from the WG…
Being wise is not the same as being smart.
Maybe not, but what would be the difference for you ?
-
RE: Chapter 1,033: Shimotsuki Kozaburo
Zoro is not a moron lol, there is just this gag about his sense of orientation (why he's being called a moron in-universe most of the time) + the joke posted by Jabra.
Also other gags I guess that made him look dumb like the moment when he was stuck upside down in a chimney in WaterSeven. We've actually discussed this on a French forum like years ago, but–- do I really need to dig up all the moments when Zoro was insightful and/or acted like a right-hand... just because he can't differentiate right and left ?
-
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
Kaido and Bigmom definitely need to die at some point.
And to be honest, Kaido's immortality is getting ridiculous. Now that we know the bit about CoC. Couldn't the person who captured him and tried to execute him just imbue some CoC in their blade before slicing his neck or whot ? -
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
What basics though ? What makes a competent pirate ?
-
RE: Chapter 1,033: Shimotsuki Kozaburo
Do you think that one-day Zoro will eventually retire and become a swordsmith ?
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Yamato isn't more inexperienced than Chopper or Sanji were. And even other members to be fair…

RE: European Politics Thread
All the candidates for the 2022 French presidential elections are now known. Very quick presentation of some of them from center to far-right:
-Macron, current president, despite the Gilet-Jaunes protests he can still do the splits –-- he's still favorite.
-Valérie Pécresse, LesRépublicains (LR), wants to get the centrists back on her party.
-LePen's daughter, everyone knows her...
-Eric Zemmour, alias the Z (another Far-Right-winger), is the phenomenon of this campaign. He thinks Pétain wasn't that bad and all kinds of crap. He could very-well pass to the second round of the elections. You'll notice that I'm not even bothering presenting the left, aaaand that's because they don't stand a chance getting elected (for now).
You can check out the latest polls on the wiki here.

RE: Onepunch-Man (redrawn version)
What to say about this chapter ? Great I guess, as usual. Quality is always top-notch. Makes me want start reading Eyeshield 21, but damn, 37 volumes really ? I'm too old for that shit
Ok, if Blast is actually there with Saitama and Flash, I have no idea what's going to happen. I just hope Platinum S is not already down. I think it would have been a cooler scene if Platinum S at least "noticed" Garou coming even at that speed, but didn't manage to evade. But no, it feels like he actually didn't even realize what was going on.
Feel free to say Platinum Sperm like in the story dude

RE: Chapter 1,033: Shimotsuki Kozaburo
I'm kinda curious though. If the Ashura state was also a form of his king haki, does that mean it was perking up back in Enes Lobby?
For me, what happened there is confusing. Was it ashura ? Imbued king's Haki on his sword ? or just Oden's sword ?
Might be the three of the above.
IF Ashura is in CoC territory, then it means that Oda introduced us to stands AND that Zoro awakened before Luffy. But took way more time to control it (which he technically didn't do yet).
If he unconsciously imbued CoC on his sword, then cool I guess.
BUT if it's only about Oden's sword then it sucks ass.

RE: How Would You Write One Piece Differently/How Would you have wanted it.
By the way, is Imu confirmed as being the hidden treasure of Marijeois ?
-
RE: How Would You Write One Piece Differently/How Would you have wanted it.
Stop making characters run from point A to point B. And just get straight to the point, lol. Be creative and put your main-character in a giant snake for instance haha.
And yeah I'm here because I'm a OnePiece fan of course. But just change the whole writing skeleton and make each arc different in their structure. That'd be great. I have to say though that Zou was different (my favorite arc post time-skip) and so was at some extent the WholeCakeIsland Arc ( everyone runs away ).
Losing against the main villain 3 times before defeating him is redundant as hell.Try to not offscreen fights. The art of off-screening/not-showing stuff is very hard I think, and sometimes it's just not great when executed. Like Jack's defeat for instance is bad. But other moments like Shanks stoping Kaido not shown are needed I guess because Oda doesn't want to spoil what the (new?)world rulers can do yet.
About characters being cut out as mentioned above. I wouldn't cut any, because I enjoy reading series that are a mess character-wise. It's one of the longest mangas in history, not a 90min long movie that has to cut scenes for broadcasting purposes (and sometimes money).
Actually hinting at the existence of Imu SOONER than at Doflamingo's speech about the hidden stuff at marijeois. And maybe the gorosei boomers should have been named by now, since we're reaching the endgame apparently.
Make Bigmom send an assassin to kill Zeff because Sanji didn't care enough about him at WCI.

RE: Chapter 1,033: Shimotsuki Kozaburo
i wonder if Oda had that concept of swords having personnality when he introduced the cursed swords in loguetown.
When I first read the logue town arc (more than 13years ago…), I had thought that Oda had something like Bleach (for bankai) in mind.
I'd say that yeah, he probably had that somewhere in mind. But it's always hard to really understand a processus of creation throughout 20years and more...--- Update From New Post Merge ---
I don't see what is confusing. He made the promise to Kuina ans she was a close friend. Why are people puzzled ?
I think we just want to know if it's Luffy, because that's sweet to call him his best-friend, lol

! Nah, about Saitama vs Garou. Murata will just drop two chapters of 100pages and that'll be it

God Enel isn't close to be a SH I think. I mean, is it because he makes goofy faces ?

What's the estimation of transgenders again ? Something less than one percent in the UK I think (just quickly googled it)
But I'm not sure that "gender-neutral" is for transgenders but more like "non-binaries" and whatnot. Not sure. And what is TERF Island ?
-
RE: Chapter 1,032: Oden's Beloved Blade
It's so obvious that I'm surprised it evolved to a discussion matter.
The matter is more about "if the WG sent CP0 to Baltigo then the CP0 must be insanely strong". There was Dragon + Sabo, and afterwards there was at least Teach + Doc Q + Burgess (and maybe Shiliew and Lafitte).

What scares me about the child recruits are all the sequels that are gonna come out of it after One Piece. Carrot is at the limit I think

Sanji (sky), Zoro (land) and Jimbe (Sea) are already there.

RE: American Politics: A Brand New Day
I'll try to answer this, and will miserably fail.
My entire comment was prefaced with the fact that I'm an immigrant.
Yeah, an immigrant to the US. Which means an American citizen, unless I misunderstood. Anyway, the point is that Americans have the reputation of wanting to show the way to the world. Even master Obama.
and one of the core reasons was because of the ideals that it stood for.
I don't think immigrants read the US constitution or its history before going there. I mean, that's what we're talking about right ? They pretty much know the US via songs and films like most people. Sometimes the media.
And, is writing "stood for" instead of "stand for" revealing something ? I don't know, I might be reading too much into this."FREEDOM" is one of the parameters taken into consideration, yep. But only one about many if we're being fair. Especially today when there are republics, secular countries and "equality ideals" here and there. To cite a few, language (English/Spanish) helps a lot, geography (people from Latin America for instance who don't have much choice I guess), cultural soft power and so on.
How do you suggest we judge a system of ideas? I'm a pretty simple person and if they sounded good in the 18th century and they sound good now, they seem pretty timeless and great to me.
To be fair, if today we compare two countries that have undergone a revolution inspired by the French philosophers of the 18th century + Rousseau. France and the US. Then, one must wonder where it fucked up badly. Did they make it that hard to reform from the start ("founding fathers") or is it only "from the past decades with the EVIL right-wingers" ? My point is, how I see it, the founding fathers are the ones who gave to the world the USA. That's a way to see it.
When there is a revolution. The affects of the people goes up and down for a lot of time (generations). That's how I see it. That's so strange how the US "resisted" to all that with their super Constitution that people still worship today. Which brings soo many questions, but only few "answers" I have.
Sure, they can say that. But they can't force any citizen to say that. And they can't nakedly make policy with that view. It will be challenged in court, and be struck down. Atheists in this country have objected to saying the "one nation under God" line in the pledge of allegiance, and their rights have been recognised and protected.
But they shouldn't. It doesn't really sound like any separation with the church was successful to be honest, especially when campaigning candidates usually go out to meet with religious figures and ask for the support of their church(es). And what you're saying implies that the top of the state isn't secular but citizens have the right to believe ? Sounds like a foreign policy problem… I wouldn't write a praise on secularism about a country that grew up on "manifest destiny" and still does.
And for an example much closer to now, the European legal system still has room for wackiness that is burqa bans. Those would never fly in the US.
Yeah, burqa is such a great thing, isn't it ? Also, you have so much freedom and so much cults in the US. What a wonderful life.

It's really interesting how the chosen people view themselves. After all, everyone's fReE to write their own history :ninja:
America as an experiment is such a unique blend of values that have stood the test of time.
Not sure it's a great thing.
separation of church and state.
"God bless America"
-Every US presidentsIt is the culmination of the entire European age of enlightenment in one perfect document.
damn, might as well skip philosophy class and study the Constitution.
The country has gone to war multiple times to protect these ideals, even against itself.
No, I don't think that censored
But the ideals behind the country are sound and some of the greatest ideas to ever base a country on.
I wish this thread (and others) wasn't a safe-space…
Europe doesn't compare at all. Most of your continent hasn't even properly separated church from state. And there's the weird thing you have where one family of humans are somehow superior to all others.
Why are Americans always comparing their country to a continent (/Europe) though ? Instead of a country. Is it because of the word "Union" ? But like, it's far from being the same stuff.
Also, there are many different kinds of separations from church and State as there are secular countries I guess. Not every country has to be the same.
