Oh geez it's only visible for a second but I just noticed the reason that guy's going "The fuck?" is because the girl's top came off when she fainted.
rewatches in slow motion
Oh my, you are definitely correct on that. :ninja:

@Blake:
You mean they like have the background that’s in the original? I think I remember there being one instance where they did that. No idea why they don’t all the time.
Yeah, and it also starts zoomed in higher on the screen, and then slowly shrinks toward the bottom. I wonder if the "box" was harder to remove because of it moving in the original, so they kept the box and just replaced the text inside for once.
Presumably, they remove the box in most cases because the English text needed to replace the Japanese text would not have enough room.
EDIT - Actually, I just checked the original simulcast footage. The English text follows the Japanese text perfectly in how its presented in that scene.
still catching up
Huh…in episode 670, FUNi got fancy with their English on-screen text for Lao G.'s introduction box. But only in that once instance.
This episode was SO hype, so well directed, truly elevating the source material. I haven't watched an episode of One Piece since shortly after the timeskip, and how cool for it to have been this one.
The buzz TV Wano has been getting sounds completely earned.
Go check out episode 957, too. lol
More moments that I loved:
-The viewpoint looking up through the table as the Akazaya Nine discuss their plans. The way Kin's hand has presence as if touching the invisible table in our faces, and the little details like the half-obstructed faces of the Nine moving throughout this scene, especially Raizo's facial expressions.
-The cute girls swarming all over Orochi. Their faces and behavior took me out of One Piece, and made me feel like I was watching a slice of life anime. This one part of the scene where two of the girls are laying on Orochi and talking to each other, and the girl on the right has her mouth obstructed by her arm…I don't know why, but that was just super cute, and it stood out to me.
-During the "music video", King walks by outside the dance floor and rolls his eyes. LOL
I'm going to rewatch the episode later, and I'll probably catch even more details during repeat viewings.
Holy shit, man. This was incredible. I particularly fell in love with the last scene—which really makes me feel like we’re going to war here in a way the manga didn’t. Beautiful stuff. The music video scene, too, was phenomenal. I can’t wait for the dub for that one.
I'm legit saddened after watching this episode that Brad Venable (English voice of Apoo) isn't with us anymore.
This episode was phenomenal. I think I liked 952 a tad more, but that's in no way knocking this one.
Tu is officially the only one who can animate Queen dancing. lol
I love love love LOVE the little details peppered throughout. Like when that Queen fangirl passed out, and the random lacky nearby glances down at her. The synchronized dancing, Fukurokuju denying the offer of sake while listening to Orochi being drunk inside…lots of life in the little bits.
Lord…I'm catching up on the dub eps. In 666, Doflamingo calls Kin'emon "Fire Fox" instead of "Fox Fire".
@Blake:
Clint did a small thread about it
I don't know what to take away from that. Clint is saying they weren't referencing the old dub term at all? It was just some odd coincidence that the script was written that way?
God, I can't wait for Saturday night.
Did staff come out for 982+?
I mean, we now know who's directing 982, but nothing's been posted here in a while.
I too was browsing Twitter, except I was away from home and not at a computer, and saw Twitter exploding over the episode. I didn't have a chance to watch it until this morning. For the third week in a row, I actually watched Skippy's review before I saw the actual episode. lol
Well, that was amazing. I don't know how the aniwan community's outpouring of support reaches Toei's eyes as far as the amazing sakuga we're getting, but I hope Toei also understands and appreciates that the staff changes made for Wano are producing results that are really energizing the community.
How have One Piece's ratings in Japan been since Wano began? Or is there perhaps another metric that Toei might be looking at as far as eyes on each episode? Streaming stats? Hashtags on social media?
Awesome!!! I love it when openings update as the season progresses.
Good episode. Gave me the feels.
I don't think it's changed, it's just crammed into one line instead of two. In fact this could be the first episode title with just one line?
There may be others, but episodes 86, 92, and 96 were also just one line, instead of the usual two. Or, one sentence, I should say.
It's possible that episode 974 was the first one-sentence title to actually be squeezed onto a single line on-screen. Maybe because it was a direct quote.
Very solid episode.
@Elektrik:
I just got Collection 25, didn't realize there were no commentaries or special features on these sets. Kinda disappointing, that was sorta the appeal of owning them physical for me. Oh well, looks like the next collection will have the Panel video on it at least, plus bluray
While we have no confirmation, we believe the lack of commentary tracks on the recent releases have all been COVID-related. So hopefully that will change by the end of this year, or early next year.
Just popping that out a little more so it doesn't get missed.
I don't know that I've seen that theorized around here.
Eh? What's this all about?
I had figured the credits would be on the Blu-ray’s and they just didn’t have time to put them on the digital releases. (They should make the time, of course.) but the fact that the credits aren’t even available on the releases is just plain insane and asinine. I’ve never heard of this happening before in such an ongoing-policy way.
I'm convinced it has to be some bizarre edict from Toei.
Mike Pollock liked my Twitter post regarding him being in One Piece, so I'll take that as a confirmation as well, despite it being rather obvious already. lol
My eyes have ascended to heaven.
Episode was…okay. Covered the content well, but wasn't all that pretty to look at.
@Blake:
Heres a curveball, they pronounce Corazon "Cora-zone" as apposed to the more commonly heard "Cora-zahn". From what I can find, how the word is pronounced is largely dependent on the type of spanish, and in the sub most of the time it can be interpretted as either. So not technically incorrect but still jarring when I first heard it.
I would only have ever imagined it being pronounced "Cora-zone", which is also how the Japanese pronounces it, so I'm glad that's what they went with.
What a great episode. Now for three weeks of terror and depression.
If they add Gan Fall it could create a plothole later. its best that they dont.
I remember Gan Fall talking about a pirate named Roger having visited Skypiea, but was it stated that they never met or something? Didn't Gan Fall say they were a lively group?
Oh my god this episode was great.
And I have a feeling I'm going to cry next week.
Wow, One Piece has staying power on this list!!
I'm apparently mentally in-tune with Tekking101 now, because he just posted a video on this very topic!
Something's been bugging me.
We know the old hag has the Clone-Clone Fruit. This was confirmed in the manga. And yet, despite the rules of the fruit being such that you must touch your face in a certain way to change identities, the manga never once showed her touching her face, and now the anime has followed suit. When Bon Clay returned during Impel Down, we were re-taught how the fruit works (for those who were new to the show). Yet here, we see the fruit working in a completely different way.
Maybe I'm reading too much into what might just be an oversight. But I don't think so. The whole crux of the fruit is that you must touch the person you wish to copy, which is why seeing someone like Shiki in her "memory" is so interesting.
I still think the mystery guy is Enel. And if the other guy saying that «the lost history is a banished word or smth», it could be that Enel found a link from the moon directly to Wano. And he’s here now, also recovered mentally yup
It does look a LOT like Eneru to my eyes. Would be a shock (heh) if it actually was.
LET'S GO!!!! I've been waiting years for this eventual fourth box set!!
Hypothesis: Do you think they're adapting 1.5 chapters during the flashback because they're afraid of viewership dropping if the episodes don't contain Luffy at all? So they're pushing through it faster? Wasn't that the reason given for why they stopped adapting the cover stories?
Attack on Titan is on Netflix?
I'm going off on a limb here, but I think they originally "toned up" the language a tiny bit just to satisfy the "hardcore fans" still hurting after the 4Kids! debacle. Then they decided to tone it down, because it wasn't necessary, and was perhaps preventing people from enjoying One Piece with their kids. It would seem they eventually had a language rule in place, because they even bleeped a number of "shits" during a commentary once (despite commentaries being unrated).
Now it seems they've slightly loosened a bit, but I don't think we'll start getting S-bombs again (nor am I advocating for it), unless it's under a character's breath, like Sanji's was. Although now that I think about, I'd kinda like to hear a really, visceral, angry Luffy shout it out in a moment of frustration….
LOL Episode 645 features what I'm pretty sure is the first-ever use of the term "dick-head" in One Piece. XD
Another good episode. Next week should be really special.
Season 11 Voyage 2 is now streaming on Funimation, folks. Enjoy! Can't wait for the next one. Fingers crossed they announce it soon, but really can't be too mad at a slightly slower delivery considering how much has come the past few months.
Thank you for the reminder! I'm off to watch!
Thank you for providing these continued updates.
Oh man… I'm so STUPID!! That scene with the girl and the News Coos, and the distraught people...THAT WAS ALABASTA!!!
leaves the fandom
I just finished watching episode 207 on the live stream. I just to let everybody know that Ending 14 is skipped over to Ending 15 on the Pluto tv stream for The Davey Back Fight arc and early Water 7 arc episodes.
Darn, guess that still isn't resolved.
I think the most impactful scene for me was the one where the News Coos were dropping newspapers all over this poor-looking village, and the little girl was astonished by the sight, and happily running around. But it was slowly overtaken by the sounds of adults sobbing over whatever horrible news the papers brought, which is still a mystery to us.
The other scene that stood out was during the current Warlord recap. The transitions were amazing. I really liked the part where they showed the Straw Hats, frozen in pose during Dressrosa…then it cuts to a zoomed in shot where it focuses on Law. Everyone else is still frozen, with Luffy in the bottom right corner not moving an inch, while Law comes to life, turns to the camera, and starts to open his Room. It's almost like the scene is saying, "The Straw Hats aren't important here. Focus on me."
EDIT - Wait, I need to add more! More bits that I liked:
-Doflamingo's glowing eyes subtly remaining, long after the scene in his cell faded to black. Very creepy.
-The atmosphere on Coby's ship while he was secretly trying to communicate with Drake. I especially liked that shot from the hallway, where we can somewhat see Coby sneaking a peek through the door window to make sure no one was around. It was quiet, atmospheric, moody and a bit creepy.
I wonder if Crossword will have to create a special 6-star rating just for Megumi Ishitani. lol
I just finished watching S11V1 on FUNimation. When does S11V2 hit FUNimation? End of January?
God, I was so sad when this episode ended.
Did Morgans knock out the government agent in the manga, too? I could've sworn Morgans shot him originally.
Ouch…he was amazing as Apoo. I imagine his voice coming out of Apoo when I read the manga. I was looking forward to someday hearing him get some more action as Apoo during the current manga events, as well as repraising Daz in Attack on Titan for the final season.
RIP.
It's not moving, but it looks well animated. lol
@Johnny:
Is there a break this week?
A Shonen Jump break, yes.
@Blake:
Watching through the episodes,in 643 Doffy calls Issho a Vice admiral. Okay like… I can almost sorta get when a vice admiral is called an admiral, since the former is strictly additive to the matter, but how in the hell do you make the opposite mistake?
Ha! Way back in Jaya (the first episodes FUNi ever recorded), Doflamingo called Sengoku "Admiral" instead of Fleet Admiral.
Maybe the dub made up a quirk for Doflamingo where he "demotes" officers of the Navy as a way of talking down to them. haha
Great episode! And greater episodes are coming….
I love the way the anime opens and closes the acts.
Maybe just a side effect of her recording equipment? (Assuming she's recording from home.)
