RE: v4.0 Wish List
I would like an option on the home page to "mark all threads as read". I used to use that a lot.

Two straight weeks of no Skippy reviews has me feeling empty inside.

RE: Chapter 1057: The End
Considering the past world-building chapters that took place at the end of Wano acts, I can only begin to imagine what we're in store for next week with the first post-Wano chapter.

RE: Chapter 1106: On Your Side
I felt that the artwork in this chapter was the strongest since Oda's eye surgery. At least, definitely the strongest since that flashback chapter that wasn't finished in time. I greatly enjoyed it.

Seems like a crazy waste to have cast AmaLee as Uta, and not have her dub the songs. Makes me think FUNi believed they would be dubbing the music, only to get shot down by some combination of Toei/music label/Ado to promote her in America. It's going to terribly break the immersion for her to suddenly start singing in another language.

Just finished Wano Act 1. Was very pleasantly surprised to see that Mike McFarland directed the vast majority of these episodes!
I was tickled pink by the sprinkling of "shit" throughout the second set of episodes. Appropriately, only spoken by characters like Kaido and Shutenmaru, where it's very in-character.
My favorite was Shutenmaru turning down Jack's offer to join the Beast Pirates, leaping at him in anger, sword drawn, and screaming, "In that case...I only have one thing left to say.... EAT SHIIIIIIIIIITTTT!!!!!!!"

Gabe Kunda was Fisher Tiger, IINM.
Glad to see Major Attaway returning. Guess he'll definitely be available for Urouge, should he ever return to the story....

Eps 929-940 dubbed are now up for streaming on FUNimation.
Episode 929 has an audio issue. Audio is only playing through my center speaker.
EDIT - 929, 930, and 931 all have the same audio issue so far.

@Kitsune-Inferno said in Funimation DVD Discussion IV (Please Check First Post for FAQ):
@RomanceDawn I'm still going through the dub myself (in early Wano), but my understanding is that Funimation more or less gave up on Dub Piece after Fishman Island, but after the merge with Crunchyroll and at Toei's behest, the dub was continued from Punk Hazard and has been running at breakneck speed ever since, to the point we are now ~33 episodes behind the native release and likely very soon to be 20.
The dub itself hasn't really changed too noticeably, but I would argue that the quality of the dub has dropped in some respects -- nothing noticeable with the main crew as much, but incidental characters with one-off lines can sometimes tend to sound weak and directionless.
There's also some inconsistency with terminology. The biggest offender is the pronunciation of Urouge's name, and possibly Bege's.
In Sabaody, Urouge was pronounced "oo-rooj" and I think (do not quote me) Bege was pronounced like the word "beige".
In Whole Cake Island, Urouge was pronounce "oo-ro-oo-geh" and Bege like "be-ji" -- I think this is more accurate and sounds better for Bege, but it's absolutely not for Urouge. (Bege's kana suggests 'bejji', but Urouge's suggest 'uruuji')
In Wano, Urouge was then pronounced "oo-roo-ji" last I heard it.
It's nothing earth-shattering, but it's one of those things that nags at me. Otherwise, it's a good time and I'm thrilled to see the catch up.
Personally, I don't think there has been any major departure in dub quality since the "takeover" by Toei. Even during its prime, the FUNi dub suffered from occasional inconsistencies depending on who was directing the episodes. Bege's new pronunciation is certainly better, but Urouge is definitely a step down. Could be something that was forced on the directors by Toei.
To me, the biggest downside of the Toei era is this ridiculous lack of credits. I hope someday we get an explanation on this.
