By "just received the material", does that mean they just received the footage and scripts and such, and that no actual production for the movie has taken place thus far?
Which means they probably haven't cast Brook yet….

It feels like these threads reach 100 pages only an hour after the chapter is released….
Hmmm…I wonder if we'll get Future Voyage as the proper closing (when we get to that point), since this is a TV airing, and TV Japan got to see it....
Then again, the ending and/or opening sequences may be shortened anyway.
It's not outside the realm of possibility that Toonami could expand later this year. Perhaps that's why they're reluctant to decide when to start airing One Piece. If we get a mini-Toonami block weeknights from, say, Midnight to 2:00 AM, we could get five nights of One Piece a week, which would make starting from episode 1 much more palatable. Hell, maybe six nights a week. It depends on the deal Toonami worked out with FUNimation. I'm sure Toei is involved somehow, also. Five, uninterrupted episodes a week equals 260 episodes a year. That would get us to Davy Back nice and fast.
It was a Toei List mandate.
For the DVDs, FUNimation actually has license to the show so they can petition Toei to change aspects of their "Evil List", but for the Simulcast, Toei basically owns it 100% and FUNi are just the middle men, so they don't have the power to request changes to the terminology and HAVE to use EXACTLY what Toei dictates. Toei said to use "Second Gear".
That would explain why Chopper's rumble ball forms in the simulcast are "______ Boost", while in the dub it's "_______ Point".
Sanji said it correctly in the last set. Perhaps in this set they're all saying it so fast, it just comes out sounding different.
Hadn't they been saying "zone" in the dub up until this point? Am I truly going nuts?
I've heard two different pronunciations of 'Enies' thus far in the set, but it's been consistent among the characters speaking them. I'm willing to just pretend this is some in-world regional dialect differences, even if such didn't exist in the original version.
Side note, since I mentioned it earlier – when Dear Friends becomes the ending song, the opening credits change to reflect it, so I'm glad they were paying attention to that detail.
Lucci can't pronounce Zoan, either.
The French word for Navy is also Marine.
FUNi was definitely using Marines for the first three seasons (with occasional sprinkles of Navy here and there), and has transitioned into using Navy for season 4.
I think the reason they started off using Marines was to appease fans who were angry at how Navy-obsessed 4Kids! was.
Got it today.
They updated the English credits during the opening to now show "ETERNAL POSE" as the ending song. On previous sets, the ending song was left out of the opening credits due to the licensing issues.
I really wasn't able to tell whose voices were what while they were in costume. FUNi added a slight mask-like voice effect. Comparing Blueno now to Blueno in the bar, there's more than enough of a difference to satisfy me.
We get "Ohara" name-dropped by Iceberg for the first time in the dub, to my knowledge. Stressing the 'O'. Sounds a bit strange to my ears at first, but that's no doubt how the Japanese exactly pronounced it.
The more little extras they make, the better!
I'll be picking up my set tomorrow morning.
You know what would be an awesome troll?
…If Kuzan wasn't the shadowy figure after all, and someone else is still en-route to Punk Hazard.
I mean, why would Kuzan be traveling overseas on a giant bird? Well, I guess Robin did have her giant tortoise....
What I don't get… What is the symbol in Caribou's speech bubble
For some reason it reminds me of Vanderdecken. Is he trying to get back to Fishman Island?
Are we discussing the official Viz Shonen Jump release in the same thread here now that it's simultaneous?
Their translation has Buffalo saying, "I've got your back! I'm in the Don Quixote family. I ALWAYS perform my duty!!"
I officially signed up this morning, just in time for the official release today.
Whoa, a full 30-second preview???
I am intrigued. This proves that FUNimation not only HAS the video for this ending, but also subtitled it.
They're subtitled.
Hmmmmm.
If TV Japan wants to air One Piece in America…do they have to go through FUNimation, or Toei? I mean, it's obvious that Cartoon Network could approach FUNi and say, "We want to air your dub, let's work something out." Can an American Japanese-language network like TV Japan approach FUNi and say, "We'd like to air your Japanese-subtitled One Piece...let's work something out"? If so, and THEY can air a subtitled ending we can't get on DVD...maybe there's no problem with it airing on television, but Internet streaming and home video releases aren't allowed?
Or...just by sheer coincidence, FUNi finally worked out something for that song just before sending these tapes to TV Japan?
Apparently, TV Japan's airing of One Piece episode 207 has Mirai Koukai intact. Weird.
(TV Japan is a Japanese-language channel available on Dish Network and some US cable services. They're airing One Piece from episode 207, in Japanese, with FUNimation's subtitles).
How weird. I wonder if the ending song was subtitled….
lol good catch. Looks like even the animators were too distracted by the breasts
Clearly, she couldn't decide what to wear, and removed her top three times and replaced it with another top while we were focused on something else.
@Galaxy:
I've always wondered.. why did Funi cut the sound effects out of We Are!
The part where the crew attacks that group of pirates is muted.
Supposedly, the karaoke version of We Are! that FUNi received doesn't have any sound effects. They probably didn't realize one way or another that there were supposed to be sound effects, so they didn't bother to add them later.
Sixteen characters of What?? o.o
@Thunder:
Damm intresting so he's one of the elders sons or grandsons it looks
Where did this come from?
Even though we're now on the "proper" closing credits (albeit still in Japanese only), FUNi never updated the opening credits to include info on the closing credits. Wow, that's a confusing sentence.
I could have sworn Sanji said "any's", but I'm gonna rewatch it tonight. I agree on Any-Ehz.

Fix'd for you.
Most of the original episode titles have an exclamation mark after one of the title sentences, but not the other. FUNi consistently throws an exclamation mark after everything, whether it was there or not. Voyage Two was the first set to have a few FUNi titles with the proper solo mark, or none at all. It's something nit-picky I caught onto early on, and now I can't get it out of my head.
What about Enies? I believe Sanji says it in English for the first time while he's reading the sea train departures board. Sounded like he said a plural "any". From watching the sub, I thought it was more along the lines of rhyming with genious.
Oh yeah, another thing I noticed. Stephanie Sheh was listed in the credits as background characters in a few episodes. She has done work for FUNimation in the past, but I wonder if she's been cast as something a bit more important in an upcoming release. Unless she just happened to be in Texas to record on another show, and they just asked her to stick around be one of the 2,000 background extras you need for each episode.
Any special characters coming up that would require a female voice? Maybe
! Fukurou? Or a young Robin?
My apologies then, I must have been mispronouncing it in my head ever since I read it in the manga. I always assumed it was pronounced bloo-eh-no, like you'd expect in standard Japanese phonetics. So in this case, his name in Japanese must be written in such a way that it would be pronounced Bloo-no, but Oda chose to write it in English with this particular spelling.
I bet 4Kids! would've called him Bruno, and then we'd another Zoro/Zolo war on our hands.
Geez, FUNi. Spoilers?
! They credit the masked man as "Bluno" early on, misspelling the name. Then they credit Lucci later on in 240, before we know it's him. In 240, it's back to Blueno in the credits, but Franky and Kokoro call him "Bluno".
! BTW, Blueno IS disguising his voice in the dub. He sounds a bit bumpkinish.
Also a tad disappointed that, after a reprieve in Voyage Two, FUNi is back to throwing in exclamation marks into every episode title in existence….
My initial thought was that perhaps the heart Caesar is holding was his own. But yeah, it's probably Monet's.
I'll have the set later today.
I wonder if they already dubbed the songs, and are holding them to the side in case they get the go-ahead. I also wonder, if once they work out the rights issues, if the later season sets can retroactively receive the dubbed songs.
If you're still ripping, can we get the scene of Robin talking to the two shadowy figures in the dark room? Or at least a Blueno clip?
If Jason Liebrecht is playing Hattori, then I guess he's reprising his other role as well.
Better yet, how about a little Walk to Franky House?
Thank goodness, they all sound great!
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I like it a lot! But does he not have any kind of 'nmaa' before his sentences?
He does say "Well", which is how they subbed his "maa". So his speech quirks weren't overlooked.

Dear Friends sounds just fine in Japanese. I understand wanting it dubbed, but why care so much that it's your "biggest fear"?
I've always wanted to hear it dubbed for that episode…
Don't think I can read subtitles while crying like a little baby.
Oh god yes that was awesome.
I'm worried that, due to future song lengths and possible copyright issues, that we never again get any dubbed songs. It wouldn't surprise me at this point. My biggest fear now is that Dear Friends won't be dubbed.
OMG, HE HAS IT!!
I'm gonna jump into the shower. I can't watch this unless I'm neat and presentable.
EDIT - Oh damn. No dub.
I'm dripping with sweat and anticipation….
Stephanie Young says she's "glad to get through a certain character's arc". Meaning they're done with Enies Lobby? Or nearing completion?
Or she's talking about another show….
They could be casting Brook as we speak….
Well, I'm subscribing. We'll now have officially (and legally) English-translated/subbed One Piece manga AND anime, released near-simultaneously with Japan. That is…beautiful.
Zoro's a jerk. He didn't do jack in that scene.
Question: How does the man in the costume disguise his voice when talking to Robin? Won't we be able to guess who it is when we hear the voice?
Which man?
! Blueno? He disguises his voice with an accent when he's working at the bar. The other guy in the dark who speaks to Robin early on is Lucci, right?
notice that they started doing season 4 finally. yea slow on the uptake.
But only see DVD's of it. Is there no Blu Rays of this? Are we stuck with 480p for one piece or what?
It's regular DVD, but the aspect ratio is the appropriate 16:9, and the picture quality is SUPERB.
The Season 4 episodes being uploaded to the One Piece website have now reached
! the assassination attempt on Iceburg.
Right around this time, the episodes started opening cold, with a short bit of episode before the opening plays. I can't remember how long this lasts. Was it ever revealed why Toei suddenly decided to switch things around for these episodes?
I guess FUNimation hasn't burned all their stock images from 4Kids yet….
Looks good! Can't wait to see it full-sized.
What should be more important? The overall voice quality? Or the laugh, and ability to sing well?
