I hope "The Last Mission" is 2 hours long. It seems to have an interesting premise and I want it to have room to breath. I hope it takes place after the Chairman Election but I guess we'll see.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I read the news and it has me super excited! I'm really glad to see that Hunter x Hunter will return even if it's for only 10 chapters as long as we start getting somewhere in the DC arc.
A timeskip IMO would be really awesome and the Dark Continent arc seems to be the best place to do one. Yu Yu Hakusho had a few (even though each were only a few months aside the final one which was a 2 year later finale) and he pulled them off well there using the time to not only have a way to build up the characters stregnth's but set up mystery's pertaining to their training methods that were slowly answered in the arc (he did this before as well in the minor TS from Heaven's Arena to York New with him hiding how Kurapika got so powerful in such a small amount of time before it was revealed later in the arc to have had several conditions to it). Anyways I really hope he does a time skip and I can't wait to see if it will happen or not.
(Not to mention it will make things easier on Madhouse and they can end the anime at chapter 339 and come back a few years later with Hunter x Hunter Z when they have a couple more 100 chapters in the can lol)

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I find Gon's rock, papper, scissors attack to be pretty unique compared to other attacks in shonen, to be honest.
He has a Ki blast, a charged punch, and a sharp cutting technique. I like Gon's ability but I won't say they're exactly original.
This isn't even bringing up the fact that the moves were inspired by one early Goku used either.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Kogome? You mean Keiko?
Come on, his role model was Raizen. That's to be expected. But "love of battle" is generic shonen protagonist trait, so yeah, of course there's something they would share.
I find Gon as comparable to Yusuke as he would be to, say, Goku or Naruto.Oh my god I was watching Inuyasha when I typed that so I got Kogome confused with Keiko lol.
Well I noticed they have similarities in that way but if you don't see it then alright whatever characters are up for multiple interpretations anyways.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I see barely nothing in common between Gon and Yusuke. I prefer to see Yusuke as Ging, if he got older and had a son. He would definitely be a terrible parent.
I don't think you've seen to the end of the series if you say that because last storyarc Yusuke would make a great dad. He does share some of Ging's hate of responsibility in the anime though because he takes 2 years before going to see Kogome again but other than that he'd be a model dad.
I said Gon isn't like him in terms of outward personality, Yusuke is rebellious and violent, Gon is kind and sweet, but when it comes to their cleverness and love of battle they share a lot in that regard.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Togashi and Kishi are good friends though, and there's been blatant naruto signs in the manga so it's safe to assume togashi got some inspiration.
As much as i hate it i can't deny that Kurapika and Sasuke are pretty similar regardless of the trope.
Actually Naruto was inspired by Hunter x Hunter not vice versa.
I didn't say it was fun to look at the influences to start a forum argument btw ._. I really thought it was fun to do.
And yeah the four main Hunter x Hunter characters are pretty much the four main Yu Yu Hakusho characters with Gon being Yusuke if he were more cheerful but still had his love of battle and heroic heart but the rest are pretty carbon copies in personality. That's not to say they aren't good characters but still.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Has anyone gone back and watched any of the series that Togashi said were influences on Hunter x Hunter?
I've been rereading Dragon Ball and the original series has a lot of really noticeable things that bleed over into Hunter x Hunter (Gon's main special attack JaJanken being the biggest one because Goku has a move with that same name that works differently), Meruem basically being Cell if Toriyama had tried to further develop the character beyond being "I'm the most powerful being ever!" into "I'm the most power being…But why? And how should I use my power?" and the foxbear cub scene from the first issue of the manga also shows a lot of influence from a similar scene in Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind which Togashi cited as an influence for Kurapika's character.
Just something fun to know.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Money rules the world. Before they would change timeslots they would censor the shit out of it. Changing timeslots means simple one thing. It didn’t earn enough profit for it to remain in the expensive Sunday morning slot.
But it consistently made it on the Top 10 ratings list…
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
So, what happens to the kids that actually watch this on their Sunday morning? Will they air a cut version or do they just get a message "Sorry, only for adults lol"?
I don't know why they're moving it because as its already been stated the worst of this arc has been shown but the kids who watched it weekly will always have the DVD's especially in Japan where rentals is still a big buisness. The only problem is the DVDs are 2 to 3 months from broadcast episode but they also come out sooner because they come with 4 episodes…

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
This episode was really awesome. The art style was at its best, animation was fluid and it was action packed. Seriously worth the wait. Also I loved the added scene where Phinks went out of his way to protect Kalluto from being in the range of Feitan's attack on the queen. It was just really sweet.
Seriously it was an awesome episode 10/10

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Random but I think Chapter 339 will be expanded on and done while the credits roll and the full version of the opening plays in the last episode of the 2011 anime. Just calling it now.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Een if they couldn't just wish the King and Royal Guards away I don't see why Killua couldn't have wished that all the Extermination team members had power level potential close to or surpassing the King. Could Alluka grant a wish like that?
Anyways I came here to comment because I'm so excited for next weeks episode <3 Finally we're on the Phantom Troupe chapters! So excited!

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
@Purple:
Chapter Black was the second to last arc in YYH, the climax of which basically marked a steep decline in quality in the story.
Actually depending on who you ask that was probably YYH at its peak. I admit I didn't like arc at first but I began to appreciate introduced concepts such as territories and the amped up stakes. Not to mention Sensui's final speech (especially the anime version in which he planned everything from the beginning including being defeated so he knew human world would have been saved which makes irl easier to have sympathy for him) being as emotional from any major moment from The Dark Tournament and some awesome fights and we have a winner in my eyes.
Also I found Three Kings to be good as well but that's not for here.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
For those who say Togashi doesn't at least even plan during his breaks I was reading the Chimera Ant saga again and I like how the Kiolas characters beliefs in reincarnation were foreshadowed very well in 189 before being fully shown in 397 it even hints at his redemption showing he is one of the kinder ants and only collects humans for the Queen and will only kill directly if he has good moral cause to (killed the first time to help the girl escape the cycle and not become an ant and the second so the guy could be reincarnated with manners. He even says if the guy wasn't so rude he would have let him go.) Oh and he's one if the only to stay with the queen after the king is born.
Just wanted to say that. Also I'm not sure but I think that aspect of the character was lost in the 2011 version which will make his redemption seem a little weird.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I think Kurapika and Leorio meant nothing to Killua. He didn't even remember Leorio's name. They were just "Gon's friends" to him.
I agree about the last point thought.
In the 99 version and the manga he kept saying "I want to see my friends" not just "I want to see Gon" even if he didn't remember their names he still had a bond with them that make a lot of other scenes make more sense. (There's no "I don't know about them but I'm making sure you and me get out of here" by Killua during the trick tower in the original) and because of that it also makes sense that Leorio would even think Killua was trying to help him during his fight but if he didn't care about him at all that wouldn't even be a debate. One of the greatest things about HxH is the bonds between the main cast and for it to have taken longer and basically bonded in fire in the 2011 version takes a bit of that away.
Thanks for agreeing on the second part though.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I don't know who wrote the 2011 version of the Zoldyk arc but I hate all these two changes. The fact that they made it that Killua only was interested in seeing Gon again in the 2011 version as compared to the manga and 99 where he wanted to see all his friends again really made me mad because it was like Kurapika and Leorio meant nothing to him when that wasn't the case, he just wanted to see Gon more. A small change like that goes a long way even if the fact that they kept their friendship the same in York New and Kurapika and Killua's scene in Greed Island should make up for it.
Also Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio were supposed to each be strong enough alone to open the gate, not having to work together to do it. I can understand why because it makes it a friendship type moment but the fact that Leorio could open the most gates gave him a small moment of awesome before he got overshadowed in the next major storyarc York New. Just bothers me…

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Am I the only one who thinks a timeskip right before the Dark Continent arc would be a good idea? It's the perfect place for one and it'd allow for the characters to get stronger before going on the great expedition that is the Dark Continent. It wouldn't even have to be a long one just like 2 years to allow Gon's nen to get stronger and maybe give Leorio and Killua an excuse to tag along (Leorio can be finished with his Medical training and go with Gon to the Dark Continent to find rare medical ingredients and Killua can get an excuse as well) Kurapika would probably stay in the real world still dealing with the Troupe but those guys could come and it'd make the whole journey more fun.
I get a feeling this is going to be an adventurous story arc like the first one in the Hunter Exams except with a lot more action and more fantasticness than beforehand as well. I honestly think the Dark Continent arc will be the arc that lets HxH be the series it was trying to be early on with a feeling of adventure and fun featured throughout it and a story that will rival York New and Chimera Ant in quality. Really excited.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I mean the original version stops after Greed Island, from what I learned.
And yeah, Greed Island was also good in the 2011 version.
Here's a couple scenes:
Gon vs. Razor:
Gon vs. Genthru:I haven't seen the original anime yet, so I can't compare properly. I'm sure the original has its moments as well and I'll be watching it. But as someone who watched the 2011 anime first, I've enjoyed every episode thus far.
Both the 99 and 2011 versions of the series are of excellent quality but two different experiences all the same. The 2011 version has a love for the work and shows it in it's accuracy/justice done to the original and the 99 version also had that love and showed it through trying it's best to do the series justice and expand on the universe Togashi gave them to play around with. Things like Ging's achivements and the fantastic world they lived in were expanded on, some changes for art direction for the better were seen (When Illumi told Killua he doesn't deserve to be Gon's friend you see Killua surrounded in darkness until only his sad eyes remain) and the music was really fitting and went from adventurous to mysterious at the drop of a hat. It's a really amazing anime series and one to be experienced even if you've seen the new one. The popularity of the original series long after being completed is the reason Madhouse felt confident a remake would do well after all.
Not to mention where they stop at in Greed Island (right after they use Accompany to get to his father) is the perfect open ending for the series and if you remember that the anime regularly made changes you can just assume that here Gon found his dad after using Accompany and everything else got finished off screen at another time. I highly recommend the 99 series.

RE: Jaco The Galactic Patrolman by Akira Toriyama
Am I the only one who wishes he had made a standalone manga instead of another DB related project? I mean I love Dragon Ball but I was hoping to see something new from him. Maybe they could have put in light tie in's later on in the run if it were longer but to get yet another short manga from him and then have it be DB related really saddens me…

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I don't even understand why they even showed Gyro to begin with. He's not coming back into the story because it ended already. I mean They didn't show kite early on because of god knows what even though it was obvious he was going to be relevant later on but Gyro? really?
But the story isn't over and Gyro is going to be back before the series is totally over so…
Also Gyro has an importance to the finale of the Ant Saga as one of the Ants love for Gyro as his king is another reason Muruem was brought to his downfall in the end. And some of the ants go looking for him at the end too and there's no way both of those parts can just be taken out. They're going to show the revelation he's still alive no avoiding it.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Really now? If kurapica gives up chasing the Phantom Troupe it would destroy the character IMHO. Furthermore what are the things the Kurta did that the Phantom Troupe was justified in murdering them all? I've read the story and I don't see it.
I just said the Kurapika history volume hinted at it "We reject nothing so take nothing from us" that's the same thing members of Meteor City left before they suicide bombed a city in retaliation for killing one of their own for something it was later revealed he didn't do. This is in York New in the manga btw both anime adaptions skip this part. It was extreme but that's how the people of meteor city are and a strong hint that maybe the Troupe and Kurta's battle wasn't as one sided as we had been led to believe.
My personal theory is that the Hunter Association had something to do with it and either tricked or convinced the Troupe for whatever reason to kill the Kurta, and the Troupe holding a grudge against the Kurta agreed as long as they were allowed to take their victims eyes as payment.
Theory has a few holes I know but I'm working on it.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Aside from out of the main cast sans maybe Leorio either being pretty fucked up individuals/still being able to reap the benefits of having a Get Out of Responsibility Free badge it's never really been an issue for them to seriously object to.
From what little we do know about the internal workings of the Hunter Organization it just strikes me as something of a True Neutral type of guild/global power thing.
All four of them are likable characters so I wouldn't go as far as to call them "F-d up" but Gon and Killua's morals are the most middleground I've ever seen in a Shonen protagonist since Yu Yu Haksuho which Togashi also wrote. They're not ones to judge people on their actions unless it directly affects them and even so they can easily forgive in most cases. It's not like they don't have beliefs in good and evil it's just that they choose not to live that way and follow whatever they find interesting at the time. That's why they'll and try to help the Chimera Ant Queen from having her child because it would end in the death of millions yet would heal The Bomber because they feel they can't hold things against someone living at the end of a battle. Heck if Kurapika wasn't his friend he probably wouldn't even hold the Troupe massacring the Kurta against them either.
It's an different way of doing things and it's also really interesting to see a hero of such a young age with such gray morals.
And if you're going to say Kurapika's goal in life is to kill the Troupe by the end of the manga I don't see him keeping up with that goal. Ever since the Heaven's Arena arc they've been saying that if he keeps up with that goal he'll end up destroying himself in the end and the York New arc even showed his disgust at having to actually kill Uvogin to the point of digging a grave for him. Added with the fact that more than likely the Kurta did something to anger the Troupe (hinted at in the backstory chapters) and more than likely Togashi was lying about the "All the Phantom Troupe die" in the movie handbook I could see his goal being thrown out the window by the end of the series after he reacquires his peoples eyes.
Leorio isn't in need of any defense though because as you said he hasn't really done that many morally questionable things.

RE: Project Versus (One Piece x Dragon Ball x Toriko), new videogame?
well, and here is Gon. Who has the most boring Nen, with the most basic abilities, and probably will be the worst character to play.
His inclusion, while ''necessary'' due to the concept of the game, makes me demand for, at least, more 2 characters per series. One of them could be the main villain (when needed).
That may be how you feel but I love Gon and I've been awaiting the announcement of his inclusion ever since this game was announced, I can't wait to play as him and Yusuke as well.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
So the translation of the movie synopsis text is here already and uh…
"The strongest Hunters that once existed in the Hunters Association were split into “light” and “dark”, and each walked down their respective paths. The “dark” side begins moving in order to massacre all Hunters! What actions will Gon take when the many crimes of Netero and the Hunters Association are unveiled...!?"
Oh my. This movie sound like its going to be heavy.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
New film announced in Shonen Jump, Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission. Premiere on 27/12/2013.
[qimg]http://thumbnails104.imagebam.com/26928/d30420269272409.jpg[/qimg] [qimg]http://thumbnails102.imagebam.com/26928/6905fd269272422.jpg[/qimg]
EDIT: kaze1028 posted clean scans.
[qimg]http://thumbnails104.imagebam.com/26927/d6d890269268645.jpg[/qimg]
The coolest thing about the movie by far is the fact the the writer of the original Hunter x Hunter series and OVA's (Nobukai Kishima) is going to be the writer of this film. The only problem is that this doesn't say if the original director will be back and it was a mix of the writers love for the work and the directors shared dream to do it justice that the 90's series turned out so great. Guess we'll just have to wait and see when the movie comes out how good it will be then.
Gon and Yusuke have been announced for that new Jump game
[qimg]http://www.gamekyo.com/Webmasters/Images/10115620130807_111729_0_big.jpg[/qimg]
Yay! I knew it was only a matter of time until they got announced but its really good to see they were in an early batch!

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
So the birth of the Chimera Ant King was really cool, they did a good job showing off his terrifying power in this episode and it was a really interesting one because of that as well. I'm really excited for the next episode because it has a few scenes I've really wanted to see animated "I will protect this child…" and each episode inches us closer to the Phantom Rouge's villain episode chapters as well. So excited!
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I haven't seen the movie yet. It's canon right?
As I also said pages ago the movie is Canon and it fits neatly between York New and Greed Island. Togashi was apart of the production of the movie for goodness sake. I'm sorry if I seem like a jerk here but its tiresome repeating information that was said pages ago especially when other posters seem ignorant to this as well.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Movie- All I could think was:
! In the manga they wouldn't charge in without a plan to the enemy base
In the manga we would have gotten a couple of better dolls
In the manga Omokage's skills wouldn't have been so broken
In the manga we would have this arc after Gon and Killua had a little more experience and a fucking hatsu
In the manga Ritz story would have struck a chord, it should have been touching
In the manga the Full Ryodan wouldn't meet Kurapika and just "walk away"In the manga… we will never have this arc because of Hiatus x Hiatus
Alright at this point it seems all you guys are doing is accumulating the negatives of the movie. While it did have flaws a lot of the stuff you guys are complaining about was explained in the film. How did Omakage make a doll of Illumi? They say he can make dolls from other peoples memories. That's why he has Ritz and her doll follow them.
Why would the Phantom Troupe just let Kurapika walk away? The same reason they left Gon and Killua alone during the Greed Island prelude. If they kill Kurapika their boss will die as well because of the Men chain placed in him and the whole journey and effort to have Hisoka find an exorcist would have been wasted.
The only real problebm I had was how broken Omokage's powers were and even that was made up by the fact that he was an interesting villian that's probably the most anti villian of the troupe so far even seemingly feeling bad for the Kurta Massacre enough to try and bring one back to life. (Actually I haven't even seen any discussion at all on these pages about Omokage as a character so far besides my own post)
I know we waited a long time for the movie and its more fun to be negative rather than talk about how glorious something is for some reason but complaining without any logic behind it or about things explained in film is really bothersome.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
It seems to take place after York New, but before Greed Island. It's just about the only place in the timeline where it would fit, and the evidence is in favor (for example, Gon and Killua don't know the nen techniques they learned at Greed Island).
So overall I thought the movie was OK. Not bad or boring, but not spectacular. There is one thing I'm confused about though.
! What was the point of the eyes Omokage collected? His puppets seemed to be able to move and even see just fine without them. If he really needed them for whatever reason, why not just take them from some random shmucks instead of antagonizing the Phantom Troupe? After all, he made an Illumi doll, so he clearly doesn't need possession of the person's eyes to make the doll work. And if Retz was already capable of seeing, why did he bother to search for more eyes?
! The puppet of whoever the basis person is has only 1/3rd of the originals strength when first completed and it needs both the eyes and the person to be dead so it can acquire their soul so it can be 100% if it only gets the vessel and one or the other it's only a 2/3rds strength which is why Hisoka was able to beat the puppet of Chrollo so easily and then mentioned "This is as strong as you will get without eyes and a soul."
That's what I came up with anyways based on what Hisoka said at the end of the movie. I wish they had explained the conditions for his technique to work in the film because the fact that he didn't have any is the reason I was saying he was overpowered…
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Is the plot canon or not? I'm going on the assumption that it's not canon.
The plot appears to be canon, it doesn't overwrite anything said before and it fits neatly into the training period between York New and Greed Island. Plus it was based on scripts and manuscripts written by Togashi so there's that too.
Was it ever explained how Hisoka can be a fake member of the Phantom Troupe?
That actually had me confused the first time I watched York New and Heaven's Arena but they knew he was the original #4, he managed to take his spot for killing him and became the new one. The reason he was fake was because they knew he wasn't really apart of their group because he agreed with their ideals but just for his own unknown purposes.
Guys I can't believe no one is talking about the pressing matter of how overpowered the villain was. He could have beat the Chimera Ant King himself if he had enough time to make the vessel he needs and get eyes for him. Seriously he was that strong.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
do you have a link for the subs? Just the script if possible since i downloaded the raw already.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/tljwtv94wh5xr05/phantom%20rouge%20subs%20%202.0.srt Here you go, boss.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Subs for Phantom Rouge are out and I thought the movie was really amazing, defiantly up their in quality as York New and Chimera Ant and in way less time than either one.
The villain of the movie may just be the most sympathetic and understandable of all the Phantom Troupe members and it was really cool to see the true 4th member after all this time. The only problem is his Nen ability was overpowered despite being really awesome with no real conditions to how it works being given. Still an excellent movie though.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
@Monkey:
Question: I hear this a lot, but What are exactly are the "shonen cliches" that HxH desconstructs, with examples from every arc, and how would HxH be if it followed the generic shonen formula?
Not every arc deconstructs Shonen tropes but a lot of them tend to subvert the epic finale battle that close off most major story arcs. The one in the Hunter Exam is just brushed upon, York New doesn't end with an epic battle between Kurapika and Chrollo, they take a third option to end things, and Gon doesn't battle the Chimera Ant King at the end of the saga because Chairman Netero does it and even then the battle doesn't go exactly the way you think with it's ending in a third option as well. Despite that all three examples are really well done and the only thing it really messes up is having fighting games based on those arcs because well, no epic battle at the end of them (but you could pull off a game with the final battles of the Chimera Ant saga again you just won't be playing as Gon)
Oh and also I checked the Wiki and Hunter x Hunter is back to doing 3 and 4 chapters per episode. I guess the writers have just accepted the manga won't be back before the anime ends so they're just trying their best to end it with good pacing and the same quality it has had throughout.

RE: Nardo and Bleh Thread III: Naruto is a terrible terrible manga
So I've been attempting to rewatch the first Naruto series recently to see why I liked it so much and man I don't see how I ever did. The animation is pretty awful, the pacing is poor, and there's not even a lot of fighting. Like literally every time a single punch is thrown there's Seven reaction shots and more than likely a 5 minute flashback connected to it as well. Even if it's only 135 episodes of canon material that could be easily reduced to 78 if they did a Kai type job with it. Maybe the animation would look better as well. Don't get me wrong there are still some small redeeming qualities and the manga as I remember was nowhere near this bad but I couldn't imagine myself watching this now and enjoying it as much as I did back then.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Huh that is pretty neat
"When's it our turn?", or something like that, I believe was what this title page in the manga had on it
Yeah that's where it's from. I never expected the page to be addressed but here it is with official anime coloring and everything which is really awesome. It didn't show up in the episode tonight but I hope we will see it soon enough. Makes the wait before we see Leorio and Kurapika again just that much more easier…I hope we get something similar for the Hisoka x Chrollo x Nen Excorcist page as well.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Nice to see this manga page is going to show up in the Anime in some fashion. -
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
@Holy:
Super easy lame answer, but I feel it's safe to say that the answers all lie in Meteor City. Everything always seems to come back to Meteor City, even Gyro supposedly.
I figure when the time comes, it'll tie into most loose threads and the few remaining arcs I figure we'll get for the series will piece more info to it until the time comes to hit it up. It feels like the stage for the climax of the series.
That makes sense. I don't know why but I get the feeling that the Dark Continent arc will lead directly into the finale and the final epic battles that conclude the whole thing. Something like Gon and Ging go to the Dark Continent and when they get back they find out that Gyro has taken over the world or something and the Phantom Troupe's subplot is mixed into somehow. I don't know why but I just get the feeling something like that will happen.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
What do you guys think of the implications in the Kurapika side story chapters that the Phantom Troupe had more reasons for killing the Kurta than just obtaining their eyes? "We reject no one so take nothing from us." What do you think they meant? Could the Kurta not have been as innocent in the whole conflict as we thought? I don't approve of them basically committing genocide but the more we got to know about the Phantom Troupe the more we started to understand who they are. I came in the series expecting to hate them after finding out what they did to Kurapika's family in episode 1 but the more we got to know them the less evil they seemed to be.
The Chimera Ant chapters even showed they only kill for revenge most of the time and to give back to their city that is treated like it's non existent to the rest of the world. They even mention disgust in having to deal with some of the Chimera Ants with them even mentioning "I hate having to do the killing that leaves a bad aftertaste" It's almost like they show no sympathy for the rest of the world because the world didn't care about them so they don't think they should care about them.
I'm not trying to justify Genocide all I'm saying is the Kurta may have not been as much of a innocent random target as we originally thought and I can't wait until we find out what really went down.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
As I have a hard time imagining why anyone would change the text for that I will assume that it's safe to say that any change that happened is on the translation side of things.
Maybe you're right. It's just the way the tone of the line came off made it seem like a definite statement and not a question but honestly I don't know any Japanese and it seems like you do so you may be right in this situation but it doesn't really matter much.
Now I can be concerned about more important matters like when this hiatus will end because I just read the most recent chapter and I regret doing it because oh my god it seems to be building up to all types of awesome. Gon, Ging, and Pariston all in the Dark Continent with Beyond Netero and his crew. Seems exciting~
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
@Holy:
What he meant was only the fansub translation changed it. His "real" dialogue is the same as the manga.
But I got it from the Cruncyroll subs which are the official ones…
You know alright whatever.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
?, that's actually besides my point… I didn't really care for how much of a deal it is for you. I mentioned it because your phrased your complaint in a way that gives blame to the original source and pointed out that that's usually not the first place to go for such things.
Point was this, any disappointment you have is to be taken with the translation.
Because in japanese it's still a question. Doesn't matter where the translation comes from, although I wouldn't say it's wrong because the point gets across I guess the nuance is lost judging by your point.Come on dude, there is no reason you have be so so aggressive in your response. It's just an anime. I didn't say the one line being changed utterly ruined the series I just said it was disappointing to see it changed even though in the long run it will be no big deal. It's not the first time the Madhouse adaption changed the meaning of a scene by changing dialogue or facial expressions around (Killua seeming angry that Gon changed the mood around during his fight with Hanzo despite just looking neutral and surprised in the manga and 99 anime comes to mind) and it won't be the last. I just wanted to say I wish they had kept the line the same but there's nothing I can do about it so it's not something I should worry about.
And besides as I said before, I enjoyed the episode despite the change.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Too lazy to double check the raws, but in the episode netero is actually asking playfully [[I]あいつワシより強くねー?].
So dunno as a general attitude taking these fansubs as a basis to criticize something of that nature isn't advised.
Or rather any criticism regarding formulations should always directed at the translation first.I said it wasn't a big deal. And I got the translation from the Crunchyroll subs which are the official ones. And again I said it was no big deal.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
So they changed Netero's "This one…could it be stronger than me" to "This one is stronger than me" and made it no question that Pitou was stronger. Not a big change but it disappointed me.
The rest of the episode was really awesome though, especially seeing Bisky again.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
@Holy:
The old anime is pretty bad and it has terrible art. It's like the worst kind of old obligatorily done shonen anime adaptation. It's from like the latest of the 90s or early 2000s and looks like some bad 1989 thing half the time. Granted I've barely watched it, but it's lame basically is what I'm saying.
The new anime, on the other hand, is basically super close to the manga and has a lot of strength in all the departments necessary. I started watching it uhhh a month or two ago and it's basically everything I would want in an HxH anime, let alone a lot of other series that deserve an adaptation like this.
I know this is old and you guys have already had a discussion on it but the 1999 version of Hunter x Hunter is excellent and better than the 2011 version in some regards. If you actually watch it you'll see they have a love for the work in the adaptation they tried to do for the series and did their best to expand the world Togashi gave them. They even added things that were basically skipped or glossed over in 2011 and the Manga like the fighting tournament at the end of the Exams which actually showed the fights in the 1999 version and they would use the filler to give character's more development and such (Gon and Leorio meet each other before they get on the Ship in the 1999 version and you see them bond earlier because of it). It's a really amazing series and is right up there with the new version. The only major complaint I have is that the original director left after the York New OVA's and the Greed Island OVA's had a major decrease in quality and love for the work because of it…
Also unrelated but I couldn't help myself and I read the Phantom Troupe Chapters of the Chimera Ant arc. It may have come out of nowhere and somewhat slowed down the progress of the arc but it was really epic and I'm so pumped to see it animated!
Oh and a question, what was up with the random prose box storytelling during the last 40 chapters of the Ant arc? I have no problem with it because they did it in older comics all the time and I always have loved the way it reads but it's addition was really random and it wasn't repeated during the Chairman Election Arc so I've always wondered if Togashi gave a reason for it.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I've been rewatching the earlier Hunter Exam episodes of the 2011 version of the show and I have to say while the series is still of excellent quality I wonder how much different/better the show would have been if they had kept the adventerous tone the Exams had throughout the entire series and the excellent dynamic Gon, Leorio, and Kurapika had to each other that Killua who while I will admit is awesome and I love his character, kind of ruined.
I always imagined the show would be about them going on crazy adventures, fighting fantastic villians and creatures and focusing on their subplots more slowly rather than giving them arcs or reasons to leave (Kurapika's Phantom Troupe subplot really only got dealt with in York New and Leorio just left to be a doctor and never really got to do much Hunter stuff I mean). It's still an excellent series regardless and I love watching it every week but watching the early episodes reminded me of the anticipation and speculation I had of where the story would go and I felt like sharing.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
If any American comic book writer tried this they'd be out of a job pretty damn fast.
Being fair here, an American Comic Writer only has to write 1 issue a month while Togashi has to do a weekly publication.
Sometimes I wonder if the new anime was a blessing and a curse. It got the series a lot of new fans (myself included) and possibly was the reason Togashi decided to just let Gon go ahead and meet Ging to get that plot point out of the way but at the same time it is probably the reason he hasn't written a new chapter in over a year now because he feels that he left such a perfect ending point he can just wait until this show is done to publish any new chapters. It's a real Win Lose situation…

RE: YuYu Hakusho
So I've been watching this recently and I have to say despite my love of Hunter x Hunter…the Dark Tournament arc trumps everything done by Togashi before and after so far. Chapter Black hasn't compared even slightly to it's awesomeness. It was action packed, had a lot of great humor, and very touching at times too (I don't know who wrote it but the TV Tropes article really misleading and made the how out to be about an unlikeable jerk when it wasn't)
Just small scenes like Jin the Windmaster flying up in the air and looking down at Hangneck Island and seeing what could be his, Shishiwakamaru telling Genaki he has fallen in love with her and wish they could have been together in another lifetime, or Kurama hoping his enemy will find a noble way to live if he can ever find his way to stay in the human world hit me harder than scenes that I see in anime that try bluntly bring out the emotions.
Another thing I loved is the focus on all the main characters which is something Hunter x Hunter fails at. Literally all the main characters regularly show up in every story arc and they always have a place in the story as well. He even focuses well on the female characters without powers and it makes a more interesting show because of it. If Hunter x Hunter is so awesome with him giving his minimum effort imagine how much better it'd be if he put his Dark Tournament YYH effort into it! It'd be even more amazing than it is now and probably more popular in the states rather than just Japan as well.
Really glad I watched this.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
That was a really good episode. Kind of slow paced at first but it picked up dramatically in the second half.
And I don't want to open old wounds but you guys made it seem like the children's deaths were just random and unnecessary when they actually ended up being very important to the plot and added to the sense of dread the second half of the episode had as well. Still didn't stop me from gasping in horror at their fates but I understand why Togashi did it now.

RE: Young Justice RETURSN OMG
I preferred Season 1 anyways so I actually wasn't as annoyed as other fans when they cancelled this show.
They did the timeskip way too soon for my tastes because the pre timeskip versions of the characters still had a lot of potential and they never got to fully use it either. Coupled with the fact they not only tried to do way too much in the new season with not only the timeskip but also the ALIEN INVASION plot line and the introduction of way too many new characters at once it was a dud in my opinion. Shame too because the series had a lot of untapped potential…

It would suck for a lot of people if tomorrow was National Random Drug Test day.
