Just saw movie 5-god it had potential-but coolers guys just HAPENED to find em,of all people on earth,and they didnt even know how Son Goku looked.And then it drags along till Cooler fights with em,says he can transform oh so much,but does it only once and is wiped out after a few minutes,even though Son Goku said that he has "a double aura then Freeza had in his last transformation"-and if Goku was back on earth,that would mean that Cold was dead,but Cooler said nothing of his father being dead.His father wouldve told him that they found and rebuilt Freeza and then he couldnt come to earth so that Goku could be there.I mean,they found Freeza only a short while after the explosion of Namek,cause they managed to heal and rebuild him and then go to earth even before Goku.With the comunication technology they have your telling me Cooler wouldnt of learned that his brother "died" sooner or that he was found?Not to mention the bad flow-couldnt they waste another 6 minutes to actualy make him arive on earth and search for him properly ,instead of just bloody meeting with him in one damn random place?
DragonBall is underrated

The movie is supposedly a what-if. The best interpretation is that it happens if Goku had just defeated Freeza with the Spirit Bomb and left for Earth, which is evidenced by the fact that he cannot willing go Super Saiyan. That would also mean that'd he'd only know Freeza's power at 25-50% (can't remember) of its full potential. Cooler didn't say he could transform a lot, he just said he had added an extra layer to his power dampeners than Freeza did, so he had 5 forms, with the 5th one being his final true form that we see in the movie. Going by what I said earlier, it's likely that Cold never came to Earth, and Freeza was never revived, because if he was defeated by the Spirit Bomb, there'd likely be none of him left. Of course, it'd probably be easier to say that Cold just wasn't introduced yet when the movie came out, though I'm not certain of that.
As for the rest… don't feel like commenting on. I don't know why I'm defending it, I didn't even enjoy Movie 5.

I think the only films even worth watching for free are the first three and #12.

Yeah, those and movie 9.

I didn't like how they felt the need to edit roshi's shirt to have random letters on it.
Bulma's tits are ok, but japanese is too scary and foreign for the american viewer

If you mean during his first appearance… That shirt had poorly-imposed random letters in the original too.

Really?
because it looked tacked on like "Road Rage's" Stop sign in Kinnikuman, so I wasn't sure.
-
I'm a fan of movies 1, 6 and 12. The rest I can take or leave. Interesting ideas, lousy execution, imo.
-
Dragonball Movie 4: Path to Power is the best movie. It's better than all the Z movies put together.

There are some days…where I just smile.
It's so awesome being surrounded by kids who just genuinely enjoy DB. There's no debating, they just enjoy it and use it in daily jokes and routines.
Whenever someone's being chased in the classroom, the victim usually spins around, puts their hands on their face and shouts 'Taiyouken!' then spins back around and tears off. The goddamn funniest part is the receiver of the 'attack' usually flinches too.
Then the other day when I mentioned one of my co-workers might be heading to America, they were imagining how they could get there with no money. Out of nowhere they suggested, "We could always just Tao Pai Pai it. Knock down that tree and hitch a ride after we hurl it."
They're not nerds either, just kids and it's a blast to see them just genuinely enjoy it in contrast to a lot of the, "Well that wasn't canon so EH!", bullcrap.
YEAH there is that too. Oh God is it ever! But we're talkin' about normal kids and it's really nice.
-
Indeed. DB is just awesome like that.
While we're talking about how many people love DB, I encourage everyone to visit daizex.com and listen to the weekly podcast where anything and everything DB is covered. It's such a great show ran by people who absolutely love the DB franchise. And it's run on one of the oldest still existing DB fansites. So yeah, props.

@Tokoro:
I want the DB kazenbans when they come out next year but I'm sort of afraid they'll just keep Viz's usual edits.
I don't think those were even confirmed as happening. o_O;
-
I don't think those were even confirmed as happening. o_O;
I sort of see it as wait and see. I like DB (DBZ is another matter and I doubt I'll get that) and want to see at least the kazenbans released in a respectful matter. If it has similar edits, I may take it as "wait and see". (or look into the Japanese kazenban releases)
-
I don't think those were even confirmed as happening. o_O;
It was confirmed at Comic-con 2007
@Viz:
Viz Media opened its panel with the announcement of "Viz Big," an omnibus line that collects long-running series into three-in-one volumes. This new US$17.99 format offers new illustrations on paperback covers with gatefold flaps, color page inserts, and a larger print size (5.75 by 8.625 inches, like Vagabond). The May 2008 launch titles under Viz Big include Rurouni Kenshin, Dragon Ball, and Dragon Ball Z.
It doesn't actually say the kanzenban releases, but with new artwork and stuff, it looks like it's heading in that direction. Plus when Ruroni Kenshin also got such a release, it's looking very possible.
Edit: While I just mentioned the Daizenshuu EX podcast on the last page, I want to make one mention of a specific episode. If podcasts aren't your thing, I want you to at least listen to one snippet. It's episode 47, specifically at 52:30. What Vegetto EX says is basically how I can sum up DB fandom in North America.
-
If that's the case, I wouldn't bother. Viz's editing tactics have gotten ridiculous. Especially when they have no problem Goku's thing, yet have to put a bra on Bulma when Kuririn pulls her top down so Roshi can gush blood on the Invisible Man.
Then you have the Artificial Humans later on in Dragon Ball where they remove #17 gun to eventually turning a robber's gun into a lazer rifle (ala Zatch Bell) during the Great Saiyaman chapters.
Plus you have the usage of "Hercule" instead of Mr. Satan, Android instead of Artificial Human, and my most hated…Vegerot.

Hopefully, they'll have sense to leave it unedited. And the whole "Vegerot" thing is stupid, but is pretty sound translation. Vegeta+Kakarotto= Vegetto Vegeta+Kakarot= Vegerot. Basically the same thing, just worse on the ears.
But yeah, I really hope they don't mess with anything and at least rate it for 13 and up.
-
Alot of Viz's manga are rated T - 13 and up, though. Yet they still make these kind of edits.
-
HunterXHunter is rated T+ but it still had an edit with those pregnany stones.

Oh I know that site. It
s good, but it
s no Ultimate DBZ Information. Man that site rocked!Hey, I remember that site, it was my bible when i was in 8th grade, seven years ago, wow I feel old. Too bad large portions of it don't exist anymore. Do you plan on ever rehosting those, especially the complete character guide and attack guide pages, they'd be really interesting go over again now that I took a few years away from anime and then rewatched the entire series last year.
The size of those two pages alone was astounding, how long did that take you translate from the daizenshuu and the GT perfect files?
EDIT: Nevermind, i found them, they only work if you go to the frames option on the entry page, you might want to take down that no frames page if you have a chance, since all the links on it are dead.
-
Too bad large portions of it don't exist anymore. Do you plan on ever rehosting those,
Actually, every last word and image on the site is hosted to this day. The HTML is just pointing in the wrong direction. It's just a matter of me changing every link I ever wrote.
-
^That makes more sense, i edited my other post. Although, the stuff you're missing section does seem to be gone, i can't find a way to access the page
EDIT: And again I am wrong, i just have to manually type in the link since it goes to the ultimatedbzinfo and not thegrandline though the pictures arent working for me
-
That's because you don't know the URL where it's currently floating in cyberspace unlinked.
Someday I'll get around to it. But I refuse to work on that site until at least after I finish the SH crew update ;)

Dude, you do thegrandline website? Holy crap. I absolutely loved reading everything on that site, especially the One Piece stuff. I hope you can get back to it again!
Anywho, it's a matter of supporting the Viz manga. Don't buy their bullshit if you don't want to support those edits. I would think after all these year that Viz/Funimation would realize that you just can't fuck with the DB fanbase. Whatever numbers they're getting now aren't anything compared to the numbers they would be getting if they had it right. Remastered DVDs my ass.
-
Well aware of where the name "Vegerot" comes from, it's just that that's not the character's name. :P It's accurate, but it is indeed a name change that shouldn't have been done.
-
I hope you can get back to it again!
There's a thread where I monitor progress on it in the Manga section.

I feel that Dragonball is overrated. If the series was released in this day and age, I think it would die really fast. This is just my opinion, please do not flame me.
-
Yes,dragon ball was a good comedy/fighting series with an interesting array of charactes (Tao Pai Pai is one of my favourites) ,and even the beginig of DBZ-until the progress of Namek was good,however afterwards,cause there was originaly not meant to BE an "afterwards",the storyy begins to fail and development is given to 2,3 characters,while the other Z fighters,even though included in the "mainn group" really dont get even the slightest and when they ARE shown,they end up like yamcha- totaly f*cked up.
-

The hell're you talking about? People are eating it up like there's no tomorrow, regardless of the quality.
Except today, it's called Naruto and the plot's changed. Something about a wizard trying to be a ninja.
-
naruto = DRAGONBALLZ
Don't think I've ever seen that one before
-
Dragonball and Naruto are only similar in the fact that both are the most popular anime everywhere besides Japan(One Piece beats Naruto there. Even though dragonball is still king), and that the main characters wear orange.(and possibly not being as good as when they started)
Similarities end there really. The overall tone of each series is completely different.
I also agree that dragonball z would be eclipsed if it were released today, but that can be said about any manga from 15 years ago, since different generations like different shit.
-
Dragonball is still popular in Japan.
-
I moreso meant Naruto, since both dragonball and One Piece overshadow it there.
which is why I edited.

Son Goku: A strange boy with extraordinary powers and a past that was mostly kept hidden from him until an enemy revealed that Goku was not an ordinary human as he thought he was but was an alien that could transform into a fearsome beast. Goku's abilities have increased more and more, pushing past his limits when no one would have imagined he could obtain such power. Goku's gi consists of a blue undershirt and an orange shirt and pants. Goku is also capable of having golden hair.
Uzumaki Naruto: A strange boy with extraordinary powers and a past that was mostly kept hidden from him until an enemy revealed that Naruto was not an ordinary human as he thought he was but had a demon beast inside of him and that if his seal was broken, he would transform into a fearsome beast. Naruto's abilities have increased more and more, pushing past his limits when no one would have imagined he could obtain such power. Naruto's hair consists of a blue shirt and an orange jacket and pants. Naruto also has golden hair.
Vegeta: Goku's rival who grew up among elite warriors and believed that those born of higher power could achieve excellence and those at the bottom of the barrel would remain there. Originally, Vegeta could not stand Goku, especially when seeing how Goku was becoming more and more stronger than himself. In his past, Vegeta has lost his entire family and people due to his planet being destroyed. Before the destruction of his home planet, Vegeta was taken into the care of a entirely white skinned man who would later become everyone's enemy. Vegeta's wardrobe consist of white and blue and has black, spikey hair.
Uchiha Sasuke: Naruto's rival who grew up among elite shinobi and believed that those born of higher power could achieve excellence and those at the bottom of the barrel would remain there. Originally, Sasuke could not stand Naruto, especially when seeing how Naruto was becoming more and more stronger than himself. In his past, Sasuke has lost his entire family and people due to his planet being destroyed. Before the destruction of his home planet, Sasuke was taken into the care of a entirely white skinned man who would later become everyone's enemy. Sasuke's wardrobe consist of white and blue and has black, spikey hair.
Muten Roshi (aka Turtle Hermit): A wise, old martial arts expert who has been revered for his talents back in his youth and then some. His fighting style is named after an animal (turtle) and his training of pupils involves said animal (use of turtle shells that vary in weight to be worn on the pupil's back). Although well respected, he is also an incredible lecher. The student he's trained that he has had most interest in has gone above and beyond his expectations and continues to get stronger and better with time.
Jiraiya (aka Toad Sage or "Perverted Sage"): A wise, old shinobi who has been revered for his talents back in his youth and then some. His fighting style and his training of pupils involves an animal (use of and summoning toads of various sizes). Although well respected, he is also an incredible lecher. The student he's trained that he has had most interest in has gone above and beyond his expectations and continues to get stronger and better with time.
Freeza: An incredibly dangerous villain who has been unstopable and has cause nothing but havoc where ever he chooses. His entire body is a pale white color and his fighting techniques include using his tail as a weapon and wrapping it around his victims like a snake. He took Vegeta under his wing after destroying Planet Vegeta and had him do his bidding while granting him power to do as he pleased. Freeza went in search for the Dragon Balls in order to be granted immortality. Freeza's primary goal was to become a supreme ruler.
Orochimaru: An incredibly dangerous villain who has been unstopable and has cause nothing but havoc where ever he chooses. His entire body is a pale white color and his fighting techniques include using his body as a weapon and wrapping himself around his victims like a snake. He took Sasuke under his wing after killing Konoha's Hokage and had him do his bidding while granting him power to do as he pleased. Orochimaru is in search for a way to be granted immortality. Orochimaru's original goal was to become a ruler of Konoha.
I could go on, but I feel that's descriptive enough.

@Sandai:
If nobody said it already DBZ is far more underrated though some might tell it a bit more differently.
Please explain how it's underrated. If anything, it's overrated. I mean…it is one of the most popular manga in the whole freaking world and basically made anime popular in the West.
-
Most people tend to argue that start of DBZ is where the DragonBall franchise went down hill others might say that the Cell & Buu saga is where
the series went wrong, furthermore most people who've read the manga tend to call out the anime in regards to the filler (which they all seem to think is bad eventhough it's not) but reassessing it a bit DragonBall must be really underrated if they're pulling the same shit they did with Lord Of The Rings & Star Wars in regards to the live action movie based on the series
(which will be filmed in Mexico.) -

And uh…Star Wars started off as movies.

I'm talking about the Sequel to Prequel cliche
ex:The Hobbit=Lord Of The Rings
I had heard about the location of the filming, though I didn't get all of it,
on Attack Of The Show's Feed Bar (though it's tends to have mispelling issues here and there.) -
Yeah here's the article.
http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=6499
Not sure what the hell this is about though
Dragon Ball Z is about a young boy called Goku. He faces Evil Vegeta, who tries to destroy the hero to prove that Goku is not the legendary warrior many believe he is.

Thx for the assist

They have tried before to make a movie of "The Hobbit", but it got logged down even before Jackson got the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and its just now finally getting somewhere to be made.
The whole purpose of this thread is that DB is a massive franchise but is still slightly underrated in its concepts and characters because of how famous/infamous it is and how bloated it became.
-
I believe in the exact oposite.

-
Long Post I didn't read
If you actually read both series, you'd notice how different the series are.
Dragonball never layed on the angst nearly as thick as naruto does.
and the Saiyan thing was obviously added on later, unlike the Kyuubi thing.
-
Only good filler was the infamous driving episode. Other World tournament was decent too.
-
@Really:
Only good filler was the infamous driving episode. Other World tournament was decent too.
Other World was bleh, driving was funny I guess…
But Dragonball/Z filler was just...urgh..
I mean two epsiodes spent on namek of Bulma dropping a dragonball in the water, going after it with an aquatic vehicle, and bamboozling two of Freeza's soldiers into getting eaten by a crab monster or something.Also, I loved how In the manga all of Freeza's troops were dead after fighting the Namekians in Dende's village (except for one guy) but in the anime there were like ten billion guys on freezas' ship who kept showing up as filler fodder.
-
The filler was pretty much 80% horrible so I don't know what point you think you have here.
Only in the minds of people who can't tell the difference between good filler & Bad filler I really shouldn't have drop names on this.And all things considered the fillers actually did the series a favor by deepening the story and fleshing out characters.

Even so it still had to brought up, there's no real point in presenting
a story like the ones I mentioned earlier then a few years down the road later
givie us another story that tells us how things started even if we already know part of how the story unfolds later on. -

Please to offer examples.
