it's also a show. would you rather he went through 30 episodes of garbage ala Inuyasha style to come to that conclusion. they had like half an episode left to fit it in.

@Thousand:
My problem with how Ed sacrificed his alchemy to get back Al was that it was stupid. Not the idea itself but the fact that Ed only thought of it after 30 seconds of rushed thinking.
Nothing built up to it or anything, it was just "Crap, crap, crap, what do I do now!?! UGH>< Oh yeah, I could have done this all along! Doh!"
If it was something he planned to use as a last resort from the start, it would have been fine but what we got…was stupid.
(Not to mention the plot points of Ming's alchemy and Ed somehow getting Al through the door which would be opened during the ritual not going anywhere...).
Weird. I hadn't thought anything about it. I was like that's actually pretty cool, giving up alchemy for his brother. I don't really recall Ed having well thought out plans anyways, he just sorta tries it on the fly cause he's under pressure. The chapters/episodes before it they were dealing with a demigod and trying to drain him so he couldn't make more stones and nuke people. I'm alright with having an epiphany the way he did and the timing of it. But I was on such a rush after the "Mustang is on deck" and people going, "Oh crap!"
-
I still find that final fight so hilarious.
Soldier 1: "We could just shoot Father right now.. but let's allow a 14 year old to fight him alone for kicks. Not like he can make a miniature sun or anything."
Soldier 2: "YEAH!"
-
They WERE shooting at Father. What are you talking about

They stopped once his final stone ran out. Then Ed got up and said something like "Let me show you the power of the human race" and then fought him to death.
-
Well yeah, at that point Ed could pretty much school him
-

I'd rather such an integral plot point was built up so it didn't come off as forced and contrived, yes.
-

They didn't exactly know what was going on. It's entirely possible that they saw that he was surviving every gunshot and just went "Well… Ok, we're clearly not helping... but we're not alchemists, so let Fullmetal handle it."
-
It's true though, the "We'll use the Promised Day to our advantage" plot point pretty much died, since Ed could have pulled his final solution earlier on.
STILL BETTER THAN NAZIS THOUGH LOLLLL

Could anyone link me to or post here the translation of the text on the very last page of volume 27, the one under the panel of Trisha and Hohenheim silhouettes holding hands?
It would be really appreciated.

I recently bought an FMA alchemist pocket watch.
It's pretty cool, it even has "Don't Forget 3.Oct.10" engraved inside.
it's only 30 bucks too, I love subtle anime swag.

I like to think that thousands of years into the future when people dig up relics of us, people will be perplexed when they find these watches with all the same date. And then weird theories and studies will be conducted to figure out the meaning and they won't think to look for information from an anime lol.

So it looks like FUNimation is finally putting Collection sets out for FMA:B, starting with the first one later this month. I've been waiting for these.
Anyone have any insight on how they might go, though? As I understand it, there's five normal sets for Brotherhood, and Collections are generally two sets in one. The first Collection has 4 discs, according to the Amazon page. Has there ever been a similar case in the past where FUNimation put out a Collection for a series with an odd number of sets? Would the second Collection have all six remaining discs, or would the series have two more collections of three discs each?
-
Nadia at least was a case where the second set had more disks than the first, but that was ADV and that was years ago.
But. Precedent all the same.
-
The first Collection is the complete Parts 1 & 2, with half of Part 3. The subsequent Collection contains the rest of Part 3 and the complete Parts 4 & 5.
Also the Sacred Star of Milos movie comes out in two weeks:

http://www.amazon.com/Fullmetal-Alchemist-Brotherhood-Theater-Blu-ray/dp/B007BMIGQ0/ref=pd_bxgy_mov_img_bThis includes the 3 OVA's as well as the "4-Koma Theaters" found in the bonus features of the Japanese DVD's based on Arakawa's 4-panel comics at the end of each volume.
Neat, the whole series released before summer's end!

Something that always bothered me in this series is that Ed says "there is no God" to Rose…. but what on earth did he consider Truth to be?

Not God. In the sense of Rose's perfectly just God, that is.

I get what you're saying, but why don't you elaborate for other readers of the forum. lol
I just find that weird, Truth literally is an unfathomable being. He made Ed's head feel like it was about to explode from all the information he crammed into it and that wasn't even everything.
The guy literally controls the gate and equivalent exchange.
After meeting a being like that in this series, you'd think he'd be a tad bit more agnostic.
-
I am called "Truth," or maybe "the universe," or maybe "God," or maybe "All," or maybe "One."
And…
I am you.
That's a far more ambiguous spiritual overlord than "Sun God to whom I must pray in order to resurrect loved ones." So while Ed did indeed meet a being who could be called a "God" of sorts, he wasn't meeting his maker. It was a reflection of himself.
-
Found some dub clips for Sacred Star of Milos, out in around a week or so:
-
Saw it in theaters. The story would have been better served as a miniseries, methinks. They crammed way too much plot-twisting and backstabbing until it became overwrought and downright ludicrous.
-
I pre-ordered the Blu-ray a while back. I haven't seen the movie yet but I heard it was good nonetheless.

This all depends on the definition of god. We haven't been given any indication that the Truth is a creator or divine being, merely that he's a manifestation of the world's subconscious' (and souls I guess). Given the nature of how the world operates, and what effect having everyone on earth die had on the Truth, they seem to be 2 sides of one coin. A balance or something.
Ergo, The Truth only exists because people exist and vice versa.
Berserk spoiler from lost chapter
! So the Truth is like the Idea of Evil in the berserk universe… except more chaotic neutral than Idea's chaotic evil.

Yeah. You should put 'Berserk spoiler for 'lost chapter' that was removed because the author considered it too spoilerific at the time there….

I'm not buying the Truth's just a reflection of the person that views it thing, I thought when he said, "I am you." he meant he was the essence of all living things.
If he was a reflection of the actual person viewing him, then he wouldn't have punished Mustang for "attempting human alchemy", since he would know Mustang didn't really do it.
Because he made that mistake, I think Truth is this actual alive jackass, unless I'm misunderstand what you guys are saying. Truth may be a being from the inside of the gate that actually made it out like father, but it seems Truth can control the door and equivalent exchange.
My actual point wasn't that God necessarily exists in the FMA universe, I just thought after meeting something so bizarre and out there that Ed has no place telling anyone what really exists or not. After all, he couldn't even fathom all of the secrets of the universe Truth crammed into his head. Egh, kinda hard to say what I mean here.
That said, Rose did need to move forward so I can't say Ed's words didn't serve a purpose. And yes, Rose's prayer was empty since you can't bring the dead back to life.
tl;dr Truth makes my head hurt. I give up.
-
It's like how not even two believers will agree on what exactly God is like, or even what the word itself means. There's an entire philosophical concept based on the premise "The word 'God' holds no semantic value," called igtheism.
Ed had his scientific pride, of course he wouldn't be inclined to refer to his encounter with Truth as a divine encounter.

I've heard so much good about this manga, so I've decided to give it a try. Which site has the best translation?
-
I think the English translation is the same on every site, but I always use Batoto.net. Hope you enjoy the series, it's one of the best!
-
Lol at my post on igtheism

The Heroic Legend of Arslan (アルスラーン戦記 Arusurān Senki?) is the title of a Japanese fantasy novel series. The author, Yoshiki Tanaka, started writing Arslan in 1986 and is still writing it as of 2008, with the current number of books at 13 novels and one side story in the official guidebook Arslan senki tokuhon. It was made into a manga (which went ahead and came up with an ending on its own), two anime films, and a four-part, unfinished anime OVA.
I've never heard of the novel before but given the manga-ka who's adapting it, count me in.

It's a fantasy war epic loosely influenced by Persian legend of Amir Arsalan.
The novel series is by the author of Legend of Galactic Heroes and Soryuden, and on going since the 80s.In the 90s there was a short OVA based on it.
.
Arslan's voice was Usopp's VA btw, lol. -
Does this mean Silver Spoon is ending? Or are they gonna run simultaneously?
-
Although Silver Spoon's story seems to be moving to a climax, I doubt it's anywhere near ending.
She'll be running a weekly and a monthly simultaneously. -

-
Nah, it was just a short digest for novel readers.
Doesn't really shine as a standalone OVA.But if Arakawa's version does well and gets animated, that's a different story
-
Yes !
I know a bit about the Arsalan tale and enough about Arakawa to highly anticipate that manga. -

This. I'm looking forward to it.
-
There's many things about this that are whetting my appetite. Thanks for letting us know, Blue One. It's an amazing combination.
-
This is the hypest
-
Perfecting timing. Just about to re-watch brotherhood; here hoping it's going to have the same quality as FMA. Try reading Silver spoon but never got into it sadly.
-
I have to catch up on Silver Spoon one of these days (stopped reading after the first few chapters). But this new series sounds pretty ballin'.
I still haven't read/seen Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

Favorite anime of all time yo, everyone deserves logh.
This is a real dream matchup for Arslan

Is Arakawa just doing the art? Or is she also writing for it?
