This has the potential to be the sexiest thing ever made since… sex.
Or they could screw it up horribly. Again.
...at any rate, I just realized I get to watch Hughes get killed again, and that made my soul die a little.
Funny how people can get so worked up over a teaser that tells you basically..well nothing.
Regardless, I'm still very interested in this and I think it would be great if they followed the manga's storyline (if that is, in fact, what they're planning to do).
Wonder whats going to happen when the new anime catches up with the manga?(Assuming it follows the manga) Fillers or they'll stop temporary.

It shouldn't catch up with the manga if the manga ends at around chapter 100. Which would be around November of this year. Now its possible it may catch up if the manga ends runs longer but then the anime can drop to a 1:1 anime/manga conversion and that'll give them about 2 years worth of episodes meaning it'll finish at April 2011. At 2:1, they would have about a year's worth putting the final anime episode at around April 2010. The manga is normally like over 40 pages so there's plenty of content there for 1 episode a chapter especially if they add filler to the fights or add filler to the dialogue. As long as they don't burn through chapters like 3-4 a episode, the animators have plenty of time.
Except it's Bones, they never pass the 50-52 episodes mark.
Even at 50 that gives them a leeway period of 4-5 months.
They could possibly split the show up into seasons or something, like Gundam 00 did with airing its two halves six months apart. I don't know how likely that would be, though Chapter 51 does end with Al asking to be taken to Father, so it might work.
Except it's Bones, they never pass the 50-52 episodes mark.
Then this will be the first time they do. They found a fitting series to move new ways. ZEHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I hope the anime sticks to the Manga, but there are some parts that will have to be changed. What comes to mind in particular is when Lan Fan rips her arm off to fool Bradley, or when Scar blows off Marco's face. Not sure how they could edit them without changing the story, but hopefully they'll think of something.
A discretion shot. Though the original series did get away with a closeup of all the blood and crap blowing out of Grand's head, so if the timeslot is similar, they should fine there, though they may have to work around the severed arm. Maybe just show a part of it and not the stump.
That Sucks!!! I Want Completely Unedited And Uncensored!!!><

Yes, but having a detached limb is a little graphic for a kid's cartoon, which can be viewed by small children. The reason Shank's limb loss is kept in is that they don't show the limb being severed, nor do they show the severed limb in any capacity. But for Zeff's severing of his foot (and later eating it), they changed it to getting it stuck in an Anchor chain, and didn't actually show him doing the act of severing it.
Lan Fan's severing of her arm was never shown, but the severed arm is shown tied to a dog to fool Wrath/Bradley. It's just a bit too graphic to show that sort of thing and they'll have to edit it somehow. Same with Marco getting his face blown off; Scar actually blows Marco's whole face off and you see nothing but a bloody mass.
Regarding Bleach, did they edit Ichigo's severing of Yammi's limb, or the severing of Grimmjow's arm by Aizen? That would be the same sort of thing.

What happened to the good old days when an anime showed how Piccolo ripped off his arm because it was damaged pretty bad?

However they had no problem with showing Tesla getting cut through like butter.
Alright they're following the main plot this time!
BTW if the new chapter's out (MangaHelpers' new layout is so not as invigorating as the previous one), someone plz post its scanlation when it comes out.

That's different. The actual cut isn't the problem. It's showing the actually severed appendage/body part/torso separate from the rest of the body. They showed him getting chopped, but they didn't show his body sliding apart, did they?
Also, Piccolo is a regenerator, so it doesn't count. They also showed Freezer getting cut in half, but it wasn't graphic or anything. I don't think it showed his organs hanging out of his body or a huge amount of blood when his torso got severed from his legs.
When Greed gets his limbs repeatedly severed by Bradley, they'll probably show that since he's a regenerator, but it's a little different since Lan Fan is human.

Huh, it pretty much looked like his body begins to slide appart. And his hand was even severed. No matter how I look at it, it was pretty much graphic violence.

Being a regenerator or not doesn't count. The point is that it was visibly shown how he ripped his arm out of his body. It was also only afterwards that you realized that he was a regenerator, so the innitial shock of the graphic violence remains.
The difference is that Piccolo is a green plantmonsterman, and Freeza was an okama alien. Showing them getting dismembered isn't on the same scale as showing a normal human getting chopped up.
It's like how while violence against robots on American TV is perfectly acceptable, even punching a human is a no-no.
This racist, speciest, mineralist trend must stop!

My biggest question is why they're doing another TV series. Couldn't OVA's work as well, or do they need the additional sponsor money to make the thing profitible enough for all parties involved?
Well, there's more money in a TV show, and it's pretty much guaranteed to get ratings. Both from the pissed-off manga readers who were irked by how the original anime went off-track, and the anime fanthings who want to see more of Ed's sexy sexy ponytail.

Power to the people!
Since this new anime is going to air in April,I'm guessing that it will replace Soul Eater anime.

Living flesh is living flesh. No matter if alien or not. Argumenting on that level (with which I'm not refering to you but to the animators who most probably really argument on that base) are using nothing else but double moral since the display of graphic violence is basically the same.
It's like how while violence against robots on American TV is perfectly acceptable, even punching a human is a no-no.
For me personally this is the same example of double moral. But I must admit that this is easier to be defended then the above example since robots can easily be explained to not be real life forms since they aren't organic.
I mean, I would argument against it, but this would be on a philosophic level which is far above the avarage kid's understanding, which is actually the target group that people want to protect from graphic violence. So while the avarage kid gets the basic concept of organic = living being, not organic = no living being the concept of a machine being alive thanks to developing an own awareness is above their understanding. So, while on a personal level I find it silly to draw a difference here I can at least understand the reasoning. But for other organic life forms I can't call it anything else but double moral.

I don't see how this is a big deal when the old series had stuff like people getting impaled. At worst they could just make it off screen. Also I don't really see the point in this new series unless it follows the manga. We'll see though.

The actual act of her severing her arm was offscreen and was never shown. But the severed limb was shown tied to a dog and was central to the plot because it was used as a decoy to get Bradley away from her, not to mention the fact that she returned with an Automail arm. There's a bit of a difference between someone getting impaled with minimal blood to having someone's severed, bloody arm dangling around in plain view. You may not see a problem with it, but little kids may not take that too well.
Has it's time slot been confirmed yet? A later time slot will probably give them more leeway in what they can show.

Fullmetal Alchemist is a show about two brothers who try to resurrect their dead mother using alchemy. It fails, and one gets their limbs blown off while the other loses his whole body. That doesn't sound like a show for little kids to me.
And Afro Samurai had someone get decapitated almost on screen, and we see the decapitated head roll and land and then someone picks it up. Afro Samurai (even though its not that great of an anime) isn't really aimed at a much higher audience.

Age-wise, it is. Afro Samurai is seinen, meaning that it's meant for mans to watch. not babychildren. Hagaren, on the other hand, is shounen.
And then you can add the fact that Hagaren got a prime-time broadcast TV timeslot, while Afro Samurai aired on a satellite channel in the wee hours of the morning.

FMA is published in Shonen Gangan. Shonen means "Young Boys", Which means it's for a younger audience. Afro Samurai is published in Nou Nou Hau, a Dojin publication. You can't possibly compare the two. They have completely different audiences.
Raw and translation are out, the shit hits the fan.
What a chapter!
! Olivia goes on a rampage and starts chopping up the top brass, one of the top brass goes nuts and activates the "blank soldiers", Father knows that Hohenheim is coming, and Kimbley frees Pride from his prison. On a lighter note, Sloth finally gets a well-deserved rest.
Just a random question, what chapter number are they at right now?
90. Only 10 to go, sadly. It's such a great series.
Ah, thanks.
Guess the new anime will be going all the way through without making any shit up, then…
Tomorrow people, we know moar!
Erm question, where was it confirmed it will only be a 100 chapters?
By Arakawa, in an interview. You'd have to look for it, I think it's somewhere in the thread.
Ah, thanks.

There's a new anime?
Ok now im confused.
Yeah, someone just posted the trailer up on the previous page.
It starts in April or thereabouts.

So what about the other anime, is that gonna be gone now and replaced with this new version or something, or is it like a spin off of the original anime.
someone, please inform me.
It's like a reboot. It looks like they're going to follow the manga from beginning to end this time. So, it's not a spinoff of the old series, so you won't be seeing Red Stones, Homunculi created from dead people, or incestuous overtones.

So, I have 2 questions.
Well, I'm sure FUNI will be all over this given how successful the first series did. I'd say that them dubbing it will be a given, but there's no official word yet, and there probably won't be for a while.
As for which series to buy, it's really up to you. The first series diverges from the manga quite a bit halfway through, and although they did manage to sneak in a few manga elements towards the end, it is a completely different story really, especially with the villains. In the manga we have a being who wants to sacrifice a country so that he can access the Gate's true power, while in the anime we had a nymphomaniac who wanted to live forever and pursue incest with her stepson when her previous lover dumped her (I am dead serious).
Really, it's up to you, though I'd recommend at least getting a feel of the first series to see what you think of it, at least, though the manga, and thus the second anime, is really the way to go if you're only going to go with one.
Gosh… does this mean they might have to find a new voice for Alphonse?
Just got back from the chapter. All I can say is, someone's been watching zombie movies lately.
cool..if a new series comes out, i bet its gonna be better..
oh boy things are not looking up for Al. Not looking up at all.
Yay for flesh eating zombies with family issues! I feel bad for Lion King though.
Kimblee must have one heck of a good hearing to be able to hear that morse code though.
Also if I could vote Olivier/Olivia will definatly have my vote! Sorry Ed, but you're not #1 in my heart anymore.
@Miss:
Kimblee must have one heck of a good hearing to be able to hear that morse code though.
Kimblee didn't hear it. Homunculus did. That's why you see the scene of Pride beating the stick and then it switches to Homunculus (and sleeping Sloth)
looooooooooooooooooooooooooooool! Ed makes me lmao.
!
Wow, I totally forgot about the latest chapter until I checked this thread. Anyway, I just read it and I must say this is one of my favorite chapters in a long time.
Loved:
-Ed tricks the guards
-Armstrong pwns more dumbass generals
-Zombie spawn pwns more dumbass generals (oh and that reflection in the glasses. Epic)
-Barry the Chopper! Too bad he's…you know...dead.
-Ling/Ranfan moment:wub: And incidently, +rep for Hohenheim.
-Pride's little trick (hope Heinkel isn't dead though)
10 more chapters people!
Hey,I just back reading FMA again, and I want to know where did people got the information that the manga will end in chapter 100.I missed a lot of things since I dropped this manga for a while.
