maybe everyone should flag/delete the dub clips and not watch the show itself if they do keep their's alive and our's dead.
EDIT: So far i only found opening 1 taken down for the openings.
That seems to make somewhat sense.

Do you spose Dub Piece and related parodies will be next? Cause if it is, then someone else is gonna be pissed.
FUCK AL KAHN, and I thought this was just an ansumption.
Last I checked, Dub Piece is still there.
I'm still not buying that this is really 4kids at work here. I mean, not providing nor everrr planning to provide an uncut, enedited version is one thing, but to go out of the way to remove anything One Piece that isn't the English version? Judging from past reports made by 4kids, I would think that they don't really care that much about One Piece anymore.
I'll inquire them on this issue later.
~ Sir Stupcarp
How do 4Kids in any way have the rights to the openings and ending videos of the Japanese/Subbed One Piece?
How do 4Kids in any way have the rights to the openings and ending videos of the Japanese/Subbed One Piece?
Dude, this was explained already. When 4kids bought the license for One Piece, that included the opening and ending animations, as they're part of the episodes. They simply chose to chop them off when they started airing them and put in their own things.
-500 POINTS FOR INCORRECT INFORMATION
They didn't purchase it. They would have to buy rights to the music in order to issue cease-and-desist orders.
it seems other dub companies are following suit
Sunrise in paticular
I merged these two topics together, they're basically the same thing.

Who's giving out incorrect information? Me? I never said the music was purchased. I wish you would quote people =p
Quotes = no.
Anyways, I sent an inquiry into the issue:
@Sir:
To whom it may concern:
A few people who use the website "YouTube" (www.youtube.com) have been wondering what has happened to some One Piece clips on the site. Apparently, people accessing some content have found this message in place of the content:
"This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner 4Kids Productions, Inc. because its content was used without permission"
This content includes, but might not be limited to:
- Japanese episodes that have been subtitled into English
- Clips of the Japanese episodes, subtitled or otherwise
- Japanese episodes ("Raws")
- Opening and Ending clips from the Japanese version
- Anime Music Videos (AMVs)
- Foreign-language dubs besides the Japanese version (e.g. Spanish)
The users have also noticed that episodes from the 4Kids-produced dubs have remained after the removal of the Japanese content. This has lead to some controversy saying that people are posing as the first party (4Kids), but others think that this came directly from the company. I would like an inquiry into this issue to see if this was official or not.
Have a good afternoon.
Nice message UNKNOWN, you're quite profressonal.
Well Youtube sent me a lovely email today, one many of us have already seen.
See it here if you haven't.
It sits in my inbox, snuggling itself with my other spam. I think I prefer the viagra spam more then this one though.
For those fearing they take down the Dub Piece Parody, good news. They can't as it's protected by Copyright law, people have tried to sue those who made parodies, but they don't have a legal leg to stand on.
And AMV's, while not illegal, can be removed if the producer of the material you used doesn't like it. It happened recently at AMV.org, so they can remove the AMVs.
As for subbing groups, I can't find anything saying it's illegal, nor protecting them. But I'll keep looking.
Edit: Just found this on a site talking about Fansubs and the legality of it.
"According to a recent panel at Otakon '97, this may not be true. According to this panel it is perfectly legal to distribute translations: However, it is illegal to distribute tapes with the transltions on them. I didn't quite understand their explanation of how this works, so if somebody could provide an explanation of how this is or is not so, I'd be quite appreciative. The panelists were Steve Pearl, Neal Naddelman, Sue Shambaugh, and her husband who's name has slipped my mind."
So theoretically, so long as ADC, KF, GS, don't distribute the fan-subs, it is legal for them to translate it.
Found something more concrete, from ANN.
"The Berne Convention is what binds the US and Japanese copyright laws together, although it is not the only treaty to which both are signatories. It enables Japanese companies to persecute people who make unauthorized copies of their works in America and many other countries.
The only notable distinction in the Berne Convention is in Article 2:
"Translations, adaptations, arrangements of music and other alterations of a literary or artistic work shall be protected as original works without prejudice to the copyright in the original work."
This does not mean fansubs are original creations – instead, this means that the translation found on a fansub may be considered an original creation. The video and the audio remain copyrighted as far as the Berne Convention is concerned. In other words, translations created by groups may be considered independent of the anime they've translated. However, this would be the only original part of the fansub that might possibly be distributable.
Depending on the content of the translation, as well as its accuracy to the original Japanese script, the translation may or may not eventually be considered a unique creation, independent of the anime being translated."
So in short, they can't legally force Fansubbers to shut down their productions, as they're original works and thusly are protected.
And I believe the same could apply to AMVs as well.
EDIT EDIT: My bad, just read the end of the article, and when you get down to it, it still is illegal, however what I said before hand still is true, they could be legally protected, however I wouldn't push it unless you're relaly sure.
Well, I just looked for my favorite AMV, (One Piece turtle power) and it was gone. To bad, in my opinion, it was one of the more well done amv's. Oh well, at least Usopp runs away is still there.
So in other words, youtube is breaking our legal rights so they are at wrong here?
So in other words, youtube is breaking our legal rights so they are at wrong here?
To be honest, youtube is acting within it's own best interests. Production companies and rights owners have clearly approached Youtube and asked them to remove the content that the companies believe they 'own'.
If Youtube had chosen to ignore the companies requests then they would leave themselves open to court action and major fines. It could even see Youtube taken down all together. If you see it from Youtube's point of view, then you can see that they had to make the choice to comply.
As for who is actually to blame, there isn't anyone at blame. I've already explained Youtube's reasoning. The production companies own these clips really, they rely on people watching their programs on television so they can make money. Imagine if you were a shop owner selling sweets but then somebody decided to take a load of the sweets without paying and then went outside the shop and decided to hand them out for free to whoever came by. That shop owner would have every right to stop that guy from giving out the sweets.
The person most at blame would be us. The people who put these clips on youtube, there are copyright laws out there for us to read and follow but yet, we still continue to put up one piece, lost, saturday night live etc….
I was saying how according to what ModernRomeo was saying, 4kids and other companies have no legal right to order YouTube to take down fansubs.
To my knowledge, yes, they have no real right.
However, I'm not entirely surprised they did, as it's a somehwat obscure law, under an even more obscure Convention (meeting of countries to discuss policy and such). But again, for all I know they could have updated it recently, though I doubt it as companies don't really lose money over the Fansubs, they would actually gain more viewers and money if people imported what they liked.
now this is going to far

I just tried to re-upload these after they deleted my old account permanatly
there is no HxH english version / one is a music video…...WTF
Must have caught the attention of some unsavory people if they're taking down anime music videos. What strikes me as odd, is why they're removing AMVs. From an article I read today, AMVs actually help advertise for their show, and occasionally the trailer you see for anime is actually done by an AMV maker.
Also, TMS Entertainment went on a deletion spree for the Sonic X videos on Youtube. Not limited to english, japanese, and french versions.
Jeez, now they are stopping the stuff while its being uploaded? Guys, I swear, I sense a disturbance in the force. I wont be surprised if an Otaku war does break out across the internet soon.

I'm not an Otaku, but I'll fight. This reminds me of that Civil War thing.
It sucks that one of my favorite One Piece AMV's got deleted, mine better not.

If our clips or episodes get taken off YouTube, then that's that. We can just post them elsewhere. Besides, even though 4Kids does not own the rights to those videos, someone affiliated with them (Toei Animation) does for the animation contained within the videos. Also, I would like to point out that Youtube has the right to remove anything they find infringing to avoid getting their asses sued off.
Also, copyright laws suck.

I wish a director would upload One Piece episodes…

I wasn't merely talking about our stuff being taken off YouTube. I was talking about the entire "our rights" crap. But really, I agree with you. Its their site, YouTube can take down what they wish.
Argh, the DMCA. X_x They need to die.
I'd like to point out that while you lot are asserting "4Kids has no legal right to take down fansubs", YouTube has a right to remove videos from its website at their discretion. The same goes for any sort of server that hosts fansubs, fandubs, scanslations, or any material of dubious legality.
If you guys have a beef with the removal of these videos, do not address 4Kids, attack YouTube. My suggestion would be creating a sort of "code" flag that only Arlong Park members would know (such as, oh, x72hf32) and having people search for that. Label at OP related media with this code and YouTube will have a harder time finding it.
My thoughts exactly. While 4kids can send a Cease-And-Desist letter to them, YouTube is responsible for removing anything they think will screw them over. Thusly, it means you gotta find some other media site to upload your videos onto from now on…
http://www.dailymotion.com is a good site very semilar to YouTube. It allows vidoes up to 150mb in size and has no time length.
Only downfall is its not very well known. So hense not everything you're looking for is up on it like YouTube.
It's better if it's not well-known, as not as many people will visit it, and thusly be harder to track down for 4kids and all them.
sigh i wish someone would buy legal rights to sub OP and distribute _
maybe if we gather donations….. nah, it wouldnt be possible >_<
why wont 4kids drop OP already? doesnt it cost a lot to edit the way they do? how do they make profit :wassat:
personally, I wish 4kids would go bankrupt, and they're licenses would have to be auctioned off

Nice avatar, UsoppKing.
I don't think 4Kids will ever give up OP unless they really do go out of business. The show's keeping them in business, so why give up something that keeps you under the roof of your house?
It's like a stack of cards; They keep knocking them down and we will keep on stacking them back up.
…and your asses will be sued to pieces! :(

If someone were to upload the episodes there, there'd be a good chance we could keep them there for a while…

Yeah. I'll upload Little Garden sometime there.
You know, I'd understand if the English eps were being removed too, but no. 4kids is just having the Japanese episodes (Including the songs, which they didn't license, along with filler arcs) removed in order to force people to watch their version. Why else would the English dubs still be on the site if the Japanese ones are being removed?
Still, at least when one episode goes down, another comes up, so it's not the end of Japanese One Piece on the site. It just jeoparadizes lots of accounts. (I still think Toei should have some say in the matter if it was possible to contact them, even if they're not the original American owners. Why did their contact link stop working?)
Whatever, at least Water 7 seems to be safer than other arcs, and those are the ones most people come to see.
Oh, and let's not forget that they only remove subs! Even amvs are being removed for use of clips and songs that 4kids doesn't even own. Honestly, they're constantly having Sayaendo removed and claiming ownership to a song they didn't license. (Yes, I know this post is late and that this thread is possibly dead)
You guys haven't realised yet? 4kids aren't the ones removing them, its pricks who are pretending to be 4kids or state that 4kids owns One Piece that are doing it.
Its most likely dubbies who hate how bitchy subbies are.
Also, if you bothered to read all the Law mumbo jumbo I posted like 3-4 pages back, it doesn't matter if people impersonated 4kids and had that removed, the material in question WAS illegally put up. Yes, I know YouTube is full of it, but it's still the fact that YouTube values their own ass over some sub-titled anime, which I'm not surprised at.
Well, I don't think any of this matters now, You can still find just about any episode on YouTube. Even if it's removed someone will just upload it again.
Yer a little late to the party here nduns :P
Did anyone consider putting OP episodes up under a title and description totally unrelated to OP and to be shared amongst fans?
Did anyone consider putting OP episodes up under a title and description totally unrelated to OP and to be shared amongst fans?
Yeah; I suggested using a number code, but no one seems to want to listen. ~.~;
If I can't download them I go to youtube. you just have to know the right User* to go to. :P
so um…My account got banned and all I uploaded was Opening and endings with one AMV
All of one piece of course.I also got a email saying Toei and copy rights etc.
A lot of accounts has been suspended for having op and sonic amvs for some reason walt disney is taking sonic stuff off and some one piece stuff….weird
I myself had a couple of my One Piece AMVs up on youtube, but I've made people who also have copies of mine up on Youtube take them down, so my own account doesn't get suspended.
I just don't want to take mierda from Youtube. If Youtube wants to remove anything OP related, then that's their choice… none of us have any say in it.

Small, but hopeful, information for a release of One Piece uncut (In Australia anyway). Madman releases all of the anima in Australia, and they always talk about upcoming releases at conventions. This tidbit came from a Q+A session at Manifest 2006. (These are not word for word, but close enough)
Q: One Piece Uncut?
A: Would love to, but Japan is sitting on the rights, going to talk to Toei.Sounds hopeful, but it seems like Toei can be a pain, going on some other Q+A
Q: Sailor Moon, will we ever see a uncut version?
A: We would like to do box sets, but Toei has put it in licensing hell. This could be due to something else though… But, from the sounds of it, 4Kids doesn't hold the license for the original version. Lets hope Madman gets a deal with Toei, so we can finally get the real One Piece legally :3
Just thought that would be helpful.
