Toughest Battle Yet?

What has been the most difficult battle for the Strawhats so far? My vote goes to Luffy's final showdown with Crocodile.

It's inevitable. Just like Zoro fighting Mihawk again, the Straw Hats fighting the Blackbeard Pirates, Buggy returning, etc.

Aokiji competly OWNED them, so that goes first

Luffy vs. Croc and Zoro vs. Mihawk

Aokiji wouldn't really count because Luffy probably didn't even know what hit him. Whether he wins or loses, it's how the fight goes, not how strong the enemy was.

That said, Crocodile and Krieg got him really badly. I guess Foxy and Kuro gave him a lot of trouble, too.

Although I agree Croc was the toughest (3 fights holy crap).

Even with Lucci around, I'd argue that Arlong was Luffy's strongest opponent. The guy shrugged off the GATLING, amongst other things. I don't think anyone to date has really been able to do that without the assistance of armor or technique. And he put Sanji on his ass with a palmful of water. But he couldn't really fight. He had a few random techniques and they were all beaten. So I'd say he had a long fight and got Luffy good, but never really stood a chance like he should have.

Yes, I noticed Arlong's lack of armour/DF powers. Yet he took a direct hit; he gets points for sheer strength.

how does it not count? he sent them running away with their tails between their legs. The fight went really shitty and aokiji was strong, they are tied together

It's like getting shot in the head. You died, but it wasn't a tough fight. There was hardly a struggle.

Crocodile vs Luffy, hands down. Luffy nearly died. Thrice.

Arlong… I don't see it. Sure, he gave Luffy some minor troubles, but as soon as Luffy got serious/angry, he kicked his ass with little troubles. Luffy was as pissed against Croc (fighting for one of his nakamas) yet it didn't stop him from getting his ass handed to him on a silver plate.
