Morikawa's probably saving that for Takamura's ultimate Heavyweight match. He's never faced a guy stronger than he is, what better opponent for his final match?

Chapter 844 is out. Will this be the conclusion to Miyata vs. Randy?
-
wow. such an improbable comeback. I am very disappointed in the "good guys always have to win" direction. I guess it's not as bad as "revenge for the fallen good guy" direction, though.
So what's next? The Takamura match? probably will be 5 panels long.
-
I want to get into this series but seeing as how it's 800 + chapters long, that's a bit discouraging

It is a bit daunting. It took me about a week to catch up with just casual reading. I will say, that when you get into the chapters with really good fights, not only does the pace quicken, but you can lose track of time trying to finish that fight because it's so well-written.
-
I did read the first volume but I just can't remember at what chapter that left off of…I think it was 8?
-
I read the manga, never watched the anime but I won’t let the Takamura Vs Hawk escape me when it gets animated, the greatest fight in manga’s history, I still remember when I read it I was so hooked I couldn’t stop saying “only shit”.
I also am really looking forward to this match being animated. It is the best match in the series.
-
Can someone here write a detailed list of all the arcs that come after episode 35 (or the chapter that covers 35)? Might start reading the manga, but once I finish w/ the episodes

Chapter 846 is out.
! Miyata's fight is FINALLY over. While it was a good fight, it was stretching a bit long. Here's hoping Takamura's fight is good and flashy.
-
! I'm also glad that the fight is over

does anyone like this series i personally like i think Ippo's soo cute =)
SummaryMagunochi Ippo is an ordinary high school student in Japan. Since he spends most of his time away from school helping his mother run the family business, he doesn't get to enjoy his younger years like most teenagers. Always a target for bullying at school (the family fishing business grants him a distinct odor), Ippo's life is one of hardship. One of these after-school bullying sessions turns Ippo's life around for the better, as he is saved by a boxer named Takamura. He decides to follow in Takamura's footsteps and train to become a boxer, giving his life direction and purpose. Ippo's path to perfecting his pugilistic prowess is just beginning.
p.s. i searched and couldn't find this topic so if its out there plz show me

This second series is reported to be 90 episodes long, so hopefully we'll at least get another 40 volumes worth.
Is this true? I hope so, I was wondering how long this new series would be.
-
That was an old rumour, it's only 25/26 episodes it seems..
-
I want to get into this series but seeing as how it's 800 + chapters long, that's a bit discouraging
I'd advise you to watch the anime first and then continue reading - i just can't get used to pre-anime sendo and ippo.

Heh, i didn't remember Sendo used to look that dumb..
That's from 1990 though, cut it some slack. We all know that hairstyle was THE SHIT. -
Lol. God, HnI's artwork used to be UGLY.
And I love Sendo's hair. It's a baby mullet.

I continued woth the anime (now I'm on episode 12 of NC), and I really like it a lot. What was really surprising though was that this guy named Nao turned out to be Yamada.
BTW, does anyone know when Ippo starts going w/ the world championship thing, of course the chapter since I doubt they will start doing it soon in the anime. If so, does he lose his belt by losing or another way?

He hasn't officially started down the path (yet) and Ippo is going to vacate his featherweight title.

I just saw the new episode of New Challenger (24) and it was awesome, the best fight they have done in the anime, so far…also in ANN there was an article that says there would be more episodes
So...where is Ippo now ranked in the WBC thing, or whatever it is called?
-
I was coming to bump this thread right now. Holy crap, episode 24 was amazing. Well, the whole Takamura vs Hawk was nothing short of incredible.
-
@Jedi:

According to wikipedia he's a single digit ranker.
-
According to wikipedia he's a single digit ranker.
If thats the case then thats good…BTW, I just saw the other day there and saw that they already covered nearly 400 chapters in the anime (if oyu count the old ofcourse and the new).
I wonder how long we will have to wait for the next season...probably when the first season of Challenger came out
-
This serie is one of my favorites.
It has over 800+ chapters but I have read it through twice, fights are just great and intense and every fight this far has been very intense and awesome (except perhaps one)
Main char is very likable too. It has +800 chapters but when you start reading you hit current chapters in no time
About latest chapters I am really excited about this fight, I guess Ippo will get some serious pounding or he will show some of his improvement, either way I am waiting some epic match.
-
I like the fact he's walking in expecting a miyataesque challenge.
-
Hello everybody, new here.
I heard some rumours that Hajime No Ippo or Hajime No Ippo NC. Is going to be licesed by Funimation. It was a rumour at the New York anime fest. What is true about this rumour? I will be very happy if Hajime No Ippo is going to be redubbed. Because this series deserve a second chance.
I'm also enjoying the Ippo VS Woli in the Manga, Hopefully Ippo will withdraw the belt and goes fight against the strongest fighters in the world.
And this fight must be the new Hajime No Ippo movie. If they don't do it, I will be very disappointed.

These Ippo fights are so damn repeative, I like Ippo's charecter but he still is very slow and underdog in every fight.
Its like every Ippo fight is about getting brutally beaten in most of the matches then Ippo pulls comeback with knockout in last rounds.
Its starting to get bit boring and predictable. I wonder when coach stops Ippo's endurance trainings and starts teach him about agile movements instead.
I think best growth for Ippo would be that he would lose this match again, it would open his eyes about his flaws and slow movement.
-
well he's STILL suffering. :/
So this arc still sucks. because it shows that he's learned NOTHING.

You can see alot that Ippo has learned of his previous matches. Like doging the Flicker or use the Crossarmblock. But Woli use a strange boxing style, that Ippo is totaly not used to. I think this guy said it best on a other forums:
! This is a LONG and DETAILED post, but read it if you'd like.
! I don't really agree with these comments because think about it. Woli is being compared to the likes of Bryan Hawk due to his unpredictability and natural talent. Hawk pushed Takamura to the edge and it has been stated that Takamura and Ippo are not the same in terms of genius. To expect Ippo to be able to just overcome this with his past experience would seem to go against Ippo universe consistency.
! You guys want him to be calm and devise a plan to overcome Woli, but that's exactly what he attempted from the start of the match. But even professional boxers get drawn into their opponents rhythm when their gameplan fails.
! Ippo methodically took apart Karasawa and that showed his growth from the national level. Before that he never had an easy match. This no longer the national level though. I think it's too much to want him to be able to do the same on the OBPF level with so few OBPF matches under his belt.
! It's hard to fight against something you're not used to. In the Pac/Cotto match, Cotto said that he had a hard time because he didn't know where Manny's punches punches were coming from. It's the same for Ippo here.
! Lastly, you DO see Ippo's growth in many ways during this fight:
! 1) He starts the match calmly observing Woli and doesn't get overwhelmed by his fast punches (seen here: http://www.onemanga.com/Hajime_no_Ippo/866/06/ ) which looks just like the start of his fight with Karasawa (seen here AND the following page: http://www.onemanga.com/Hajime_no_Ippo/583/09/ ). He even goes onto analyze that Woli wasn't showing his true strength.
! 2) He uses the cross arm block to stop Woli's double upper (seen here: http://www.onemanga.com/Hajime_no_Ippo/866/11/ ) which is reminiscent of his fight with Sanada who used two uppers (Tsubame Geishi) and he defended it in the same way with the cross arm block (which he learned from Kobashi). So two levels learning for Ippo here.
! 3) Once Woli is in Freedom mode, Ippo tries to do his standard outboxer strategy of pushing them into the corner without them noticing with slow but determined advances. He even realized Woli's pattern from the first round and that's how he tries to corner him (seen here: http://www.onemanga.com/Hajime_no_Ippo/870/07/ and here: http://www.onemanga.com/Hajime_no_Ippo/872/10/ ). This shows that he's better at analyzing his opponents patterns and habits. And just to empahsize that point the translation on this page says the same thing ( http://www.onemanga.com/Hajime_no_Ippo/873/02/ ). I quote, "Controlling the opponent you're facing by noticing their habits…this is something you can only pull off with experience."
! 4) When Woli uses the flicker jabs, he knows that he has to push forward from his experience with Mashiba (and to a lesser degree Saeki) (seen here: http://www.onemanga.com/Hajime_no_Ippo/871/05/ ). He doesn't even take a single flicker.
! 5) Woli uses the rope grabbing trick the first time, but even after being surprised, Ippo doesn't start swinging wildly. He tries the same plan again to find out what happened. It's only after his second failed attempt and actually seeing Woli change direction in the air with no explanation (since he Ippo can't see his arm holding the ropes) does he become panicked.
! I think that's a natural reaction. If someone in front of you seemed to magically change directions in mid air, I think we'd all be caught off guard to say the least. And to Woli's credite, once Ippo does get flustered, he starts laying on all of his techniques at once. He starts jumping, adding sways, and does his rope tricks at the time when Ippo is just starting to lose it.
! And I can't say for sure but there's more signs of Ippo's growth in this RAW.
! 6) Ippo doesn't fall for the rope grabbing trick a third time at all. He aims to hit Woli where he stalls which shocks everyone (Woli, Miguel, and Kamogawa). The overhead/vertical punch, intentional or not did change the flow for that short period of time. And I will bet you that it plays a key role in Ippo's comeback.
! 7) Ippo corners Woli finally and tries to go forward with his initial gameplan, the same one he practiced with the coach before the fight. In the corner he doesn't throw huge punches, he throws three punches that don't look wide at all. I think they are short concise punches just like with Karasawa to keep him in there now that he's finally gotten him there. He knows that he's struggled to get him there in the first place and he's not going to create a wide opening to let him out. This was the exact strategy with Karasawa. Unfortunately, Woli's speed and rope trick proves too much and he gets countered during his 3rd punch.
! People keep saying that Ippo is swinging wildly the entire match but that's totally wrong. If you all go back and read the entire fight in one piece, you'll know that he doesn't do that. It's only for a little while after the 2nd rope stopping trick (874 and 875). He doesn't do it in the 876. So the fight starts at the end of 865 and it's up to 876. Of those 12 chapters two of those have shown him swingly, a small amount of the fight.
! Sorry for the long post, but I think you guys just aren't catching the subtle (and not so subtle) examples of Ippo's growth. Morikawa is showing exactly that, he's also just showing that in the world there's some things that your experience won't prepare you for. Hell, even Martinez was caught off guard by Date's Heartbreak Shot the second time around even though he defended it the first time.
! ~PaikI hope you now understand why Ippo is having a hard time against Woli.
-
The new series is missing some of the pimp music from the old series, which is part of what made it excellent. Watch the intro to champion road:
!
tell me the new series can stand up to that soundtrack; when Sendo winds up that smash and the guitar kicks in? Still sends shivers down my spine, years after I first saw the series. -

Would you rather him over power everyone he faces? His power is second to none. Anyway A. He's far from a punching bag, You see him Dodging a flicker, and just two matches ago vs Scratch J he did not take a single clean hit. And B he's not capable of dodging like an outboxer and that's what you seem to want him to do. Better to focus on his strengths then to make a half assed band-aid.
And to sum up Kiekerjan post Ippo really showed that normal outboxer's don't stand a chance against him. The fact of the matter is Woli is only boxing in the sense of the fact that he's only punching. It's not that he learned nothing, it's simply that this fight goes against everything he knows about boxing.
-

I'm pretty sure I know why I was just complaining because, this happens in EVERY fight he has.
For just once I'd like him to go out there and 1 hit KO some one in the first few seconds of the first round.
-

But the problem is look who's he's facing. National champions. They not exactly push overs. Plus the best part of ippo is the fights. A one hit KO would be cool, but lets face it it be a huge let down in the long run.

three fights this little monkey fuckers had before fighting ippo, 3.
Even iff Ippo hasn't seen they way he moves before you should still no how to react after seeing it, why? Becasue of experience.
he looks like a lost puppy in the ring, he really does!
And so what if they're champions!? Miyata takes care of those kinds of people in every match and only had trouble with the first match and randy, in between that time he's been nothing but raep. And the same can be said for Takamura the ONLY time he struggled was against Hawk. every single other panel that takamura fights in he's a beast.
But I'm not asking for Ippo to turn into that, all I'm saying is why can't we have one moment, just one where Ippo dominates and is superior.
Did you not see how confident he was going into the match? it pumped me up so much! I thought to myself "man this is gonna be a great match, Ippo looks ready to win!" and then we get "omg he dissapeared!" and " Ippo looks like the challanger here tonight!"He sure as hell DOES look like that.
-
I don't have any problem with Ippo struggling in a match. Hell, it's practically his MO. No one really complained that Rocky got worked over in most of his matches.
Plus he wasn't hurt by J at all, dominated Hammer Nao, and beat Hayami in 30 seconds. 3 slaughters out of 20-something fights.
My problem is how lame Woli is. I don't care how many times Takamura says it's talent, that shit is not boxing. It is just boring to see Mr. Flubber bouncing around the ring. When this ends, hopefully soon, it better be decided with just one punch. And then have Woli retire and go back to his tree.

And in those three he became the champion.
And you point out takamura and miyata taking on champs with ease. Name once.
Taka vs jap champ. Takes an counter and almost loses from pure shock.
Taka vs hawk you mentioned.
taka vs eagle, heck eagle handicapped himself to make it fair.Everyone else has been a chump.
Miyalta vs jimmy got beaten to a pulp.
vs the aussie champ took a bunch of nasty counters
vs randy he was behind the whole timeEveryone else below champ level.
Anyway did you forget who this guy is being compared to. HAWK. He just a smaller nicer version.
You got to remember this isn't one piece. In most manga you can afford to throw in weaker opponents purely for the image of the slaughter. It's been two years since ippo's last match. I don't know about you but I didn't wait that long for a one chapter match.
-
I'll just leave this here.
This is a worse black eye for the 'boxing' aspect of this series than even the karate guy having some decimating punch no boxer could stand up to. Though not as bad as the heartbreak shot, being hit with the outstretched glove, or the disregard for the brain damage these fighters would have by now.
I have to say the crazy little dark monkey dude was the only thread that kept me saying while the real life situations are ridiculous, the idea of boxing itself was taken slightly more seriously than Ashita no Joe.
This fight is really helping ruin such a great series.

Takamura was several classes below his normal weight, dealing with a guy who was just as good as he was((Hawk)), but even better during the match since he was in his natural weight class. He was every bit as strong and even faster than Takamura, and to top it off Takamura had to worry about over heating and possibly dropping dead. He damn near got knocked out several times and at one point he wasn't even aware of what direction he was facing.
None of that was present in the Eagle fight. The biggest worry in that fight was the damage to his left eye and dealing with Eagle's clean boxing ability. He had to try, but I'd hardly say that was as big a fight as the one against Hawk.
-
Eagle could have gone for the TKO, but decide to play it fair. That pretty much cost him the match. Yeah it wasn't as one side as some of ippo's or the hawk match, but it was far from easy.
-
I'm pretty sure I know why I was just complaining because, this happens in EVERY fight he has.

I'm with you here, man. Been reading this for… God I don't even know how many years, and I've never been this disappointed.
Although for the record, Ippo DID have one pretty easy knockout and that was versus Ponchai Chuwa-whatever, his comeback fight after losing to Eiji.
Of course, the fact that nobody remembers said fight speaks pretty poignantly about the value of 'epic'-ified, long, drawn-out shitfests to HnI's fanbase.
Really though. Awful fight.
-
Yeah this fight is getting boring.
-
Would appreciate it if the comeback comes sooner than later~ Woli interested me at first, but it's just dragging on at this point. This stuff could have been handled in half of the chapters used… The earlier Ippo fight against the magician dragged on as well... sigh
-
I know they are going to do a third season for this manga, but I wonder when. Could it be it will air at the smae time the 2nd season started?
The episodes that so far covered the first and second season covered I think 400 chapters is this true…ok maybe not that much, somewhere around 382-390
-
I think best growth for Ippo would be that he would lose this match again, it would open his eyes about his flaws and slow movement.
I had to double-check the address bar to make sure this wasn't the proboards34 forum cause damn if the complaining and suggestions regarding the plot doesn't look familiar no offense.
But I'm not asking for Ippo to turn into that, all I'm saying is why can't we have one moment, just one where Ippo dominates and is superior.
The Karasawa fight comes to mind.
@Capt:
His power is second to none.
On the National circuit or in general?
-
Well after reading the new chapter I really don't need to add anything, other then, "WOW DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING."/sarcasim
-
New chap out. My synopsis:
! Sweet title, grip of bullshit. Again.
-
Well I expected him to actaully fall, but he didn't, so I wasn't fully disappointed.
-
Could you two just get lost? No one wants to watch a lame fight where Ippo crushes Woli like a bug except you two.
-
@Thousand:
Could you two just get lost? No one wants to watch a lame fight where Ippo crushes Woli like a bug except you two.
No ?
and you're fucking crazy if youthink it's just us two. O-o
-
You're the only two I see bitching about it consistently every week. If you have nothing constructive outside the same "this chapter sucks because Woli isn't getting one-sided by Ippo" then don't say anything at all.
-
Ok, but hear me out, what if instead of woli getting knocked out in the first round, he instead, still got knocked out in the first round wouldn't that be cool? :|
Boy, I could talk about this all night, couldn't you?
