Roman is right. All they have to do is edit the blood out and cut the scene with the double drill to the chest, and the fight should stay intact.
My first reaction to your second point was rage, but I waited a minute and I'm sober enough to make a rebuttal.
First of all, the anime is not Oda vision, the manga is. Don’t get mad at me for my statements about the authors artistic vision, in fact I agree with you. Unfortunately, that is not how the game is played in the entertainment industry. When Toei bought the rights to create the anime, Oda forefeited creative control of his work, and they can do whatever they feel like with it. Right or wrong, it’s their money!!! Toei has the right to sell their product to the US market and 4kids bought the rights fair and square. 4kids had to alter the anime for a variety reasons most involving possible copyright concerns, violent content, the programs length, and the edits that are unnecessary is not really worth raising a fuss about. I can list several examples of companies rewriting the author’s original work but what the point? It seems that providing overwhelming evidence is not considered proof nowadays.
As for my defense of the dub, its interesting that no one notices the times I’ve criticize the dub. When I do defend the dub it’s mostly to dispel all of these myths, false claims, misconceptions, or to explain to people why 4kids do certain things and I always explain my position. I’m not trying to convert anyone. You can criticize the dub all you want, just be accurate when you do it. I believe in the truth, and if it makes 4kids look good in the process, then so be it.
@CosmicDebris:
Sorry bro, as much as you think so highly of your little list, it doesn't prove a thing. Everything you listed was completely innocuous. Just read through all Cinder's comparisons and you'll see plenty more instances of how often and how badly 4kids makes unnecessary changes.
Yes, I read Cinder’s great work. If it wasn’t for her list, you wouldn’t know 80%, maybe even more, of those edits. And like I’ve said a million times (and repeat after me) most of those edits are not allowed on TV or so minor they are not worth getting all hysterical over. You asked for proof, I provided it for you. What’s the problem here? As for my precious list, I’ve listed twenty two incidents off the top of my head. If I really put some effort I can provide several more but that is not necessary. I’ve already proven that there is a pattern of behavior. If you consider: The tearful scene where Zoro ask for Kunia’s sword (except for Kunia’s death, the entire episode was kept intact), The tearful break up of the Usopp’s crew, Zoro apologizing to Luffy for not being the best. (Except for the suction cups, the entire Baratie arc was kept intact.) to name a few as innocuous then you are off your meds.
@CosmicDebris:
Why do you keep fighting this losing battle? Why not just go enjoy the dub alone instead of continuing to argue the same thing with me over and over again?
First of all, this thread is a Discussion where everyone comes to talk about the dub. You want me to stop voicing my opinions? Why? Are you suddenly afraid of the things I have to say? If you don’t want to keep arguing the same thing over and over again with me…then stop being wrong.
