Yanno, we've never seen S'panda actually fight before, just get hit in the face a number of times by a guy that can toss up galleons with one hand and a kid with a bat. Course I don't think it should be that easy for a Cipher Pol member to get caught offguard, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have any deadly techniques up his sleeve. He may surprise us and actually turn out pretty damn fearsome!

I wanna see Chopper vs. Lucci maybe, and Sanji/Paulie vs. Calipha. Those are the fights I most look forward to. By the way since S'panda seems to rely on a rapier in battle, do you think that increases the chance of him being defeated by Zoro? Usually when an opponent happens to be a swordsman, Zoro is the first one looking for a duel.

The only disappointing thing is that there are all these revelations - but we've already guessed so many of them:

Spandam is the big boss of CP9
Chopper saves Lucci and Pauley
Franky built himself into a cyborg from ship parts

My observations:

I guess Icey and Kokoro really were drinking partners!
Icey and Franky's reunion was so touching!
They are holding on the blueprints just so that Robin doesn't get a hold of them. I wonder if CP9 knows this?
Franky's "I will never get off this island" reminds me a lot of Sanji's "Leave this ship? Go to hell."
On page 12 in ocean's translation: "Even townspeople answers ambiguously when I asked them about him." This kind of answers the question as to whether the townspeople are turning a blind eye or just plain stupid.
I wonder if Lucci and the rest of CP9 know what actually happened with the Battle Frankys…

My predictions:

Perhaps Usopp will (with the help of Luffy?) come to Franky's rescue.
Kaku's last lines "If I remember correctlyyou're from 'StrawHats'...One of them..."(ocean's trans) will be answered by Usopp: "Not anymore", or something along those lines. To which CP9 will respond that it doesn't matter because they're all dead anyway. And we know what happens when Luffy thinks his friends are dead...
Maybe Sanji went to Eneas Lobby?

My analyses/speculation:

Since Chopper saved Iceburg and Pauley, the people will listen to him, at the very least. Chopper may try to explain what happened. Of course, we can't know if they will believe him. If they don't, we can hope that Icey or Pauley wake up to back him up.
Usopp may continue his campaign to prove himself by trying to rescue Franky. He has to prove - at least to himself - that he isn't useless.
The Luffy/Usopp situation somewhat parallels the Franky/Iceberg relationship. Will any of them reconcile? (Icey wanna kiss and make up? :wub: )
If the main action moves from Water 7 to Eneas Lobby, the crew won't have to wait the rest of the week for the log to set...

My questions (rhetorical and otherwise):

What happened to Tyrannosaurus? Is he okay?
What did Franky mean when he said that Icey is taking care of World Government ships? Is there anything to that, or is it just a surface remark?
doesn't mention Sanji -_-

yeah! Finally a very very shocking chapter!
now all the flashback about Tom, gets a new aspect! it wasn't only to show us, who Tom was, and what he did! it's also to introduce "Spandam", a character that I thougth was a really dumbass, and instead has become the head of CP9! I'm still thinking he's a dumbass, and probably it's also as weak as 8 years ago, but…I'm not sure, Oda's unpredictable!
Moreover, i'm starting hating Usop! He's too coward, in any situation! And we still don't know, what CP9 did to him! They've realyzed he was with Luffy, so probably, will kick his ass (I hope! :P)
Now things can get even worse! Chopper, ice and pauley are very weak, and probably, the two of them, won't be able to explain anything, so, citizens, won't know the truth about Ruch and the others! moreover, aqua laguna should be very close!!! And, last but not least: Sanji?!?!?!
Guess he's with robin, but this is also a speculation, because she is disappeared too!
Too much thing to know, too much time to wait...till next week!!!

On Franky fixing himself: I think that when he got on the ship, he only rebuilt himself enough so that he could live at first. Everything else (weapons, etc.) he just added on a later date.

There are just so many questions: Where's Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Robin? Will Usopp try to fight CP9? Will Iceberg and Pauly clear the Strawhats? What is the fate of Going Merry? And what about Scarecrow's brain?

I think you're being a little rough on Usopp! For one thing, he has no idea who these guys are - but they're obviously very strong.
He doesn't know what their beef is with Franky, but Usopp is plenty aware that Franky's responsible for some not-so-nice things.
And even if he is being a little cowardly, I think it will be to his advantage.

Mark my words - CP9 are making a BIG mistake ignoring Usopp.
They brush him off now, but that's gonna come back and bite them in the butt, I tell you.

Spandam got freaky and a tad hawtter. Jesus, Franky rebuilt HIMSELF >_O GOD. I cannot get over his badassness. This chapter was great, made me wanna doodle immensely. Wondering if Icey and Pauly are gonna be out for a while though, thus extending the problem of the townsfolk hating the strawhats. Oda usually doesn't do stuff like that though so I'm not sure.

Am I the only one who thinks that Spandams coolness level has shot through the roof? The last picture on page 14 nearly erases all his previous clumsiness and wimpiness from my memory. He looks aristocratic now- Like a man in the iron mask/Hannibal lecter crossover.

Thought 1: Spandam talked about inner rage- perhaps his anger with Flam ( or Tom maybe) gives him strenght. Perhaps the stone faced CP9 use surpressed anger while fighting…
Thought 2: Enias Lobby seems to be some sort of medieval fortress, judging by Spandams quarters.

And for all You "Usopp is a wimp people"- pretty much all his fights have started off with him being cowardly, and he's even trying to flee during his battles (He nearly abandoned Chopper to the mr. 4 pair. Not very brave, or nice).
But he has always won his battles in the end- Jango, Chuu, etc.

Spadam is looking like the sociopath Leathermask with that mask…

You know, I must have missed the part where Franky said he runs on cola. I hear everyone talk about it, but I can't think of where it came up in the manga. Can someone tell me what chapter?

I think what Franky meant about the goverment ships, is that he's building government ships as well as any other. He just doesn't turn anyone away (even pirates). Franky was objecting to Iceberg doing anything to help the government. I don't think there's anything more to it than that, but I could be wrong…

And now, my big fat Usopp commentary.

And as for Usopp, oh ye of little faith. Just be patient and watch what happens. I guess after that awesome Franky flashback, people are forgetting that
1)Even though they sort of reconciled, all Usopp knows is this is the guy that stole their money, beat him to a pulp, not to mention threw some very hurtful words his way.
2)Usopp is still in really bad shape from all the previous beatings
3) We saw what happened when LUFFY tried the head-on approach. What makes you think Usopp would do any better?

Ah, guess I'll repost what I posted at Ocean's forum before the thread was locked.

This is the first time I can recall that Usopp was in danger completely without any of the other strawhats around. I think he has a lot of things going through his head. These guys are higher-ups in the world government. He just caught wind of something really big and top-secret is going down. If he gets involved here, this could be the point of no return. Usopp keeps saying that he's a pirate at heart, but if that's true, maybe he really needs to accept that being a reknowned pirate means being hounded by the government. He also says he wants to return to his home in the East Blue, but does a real pirate ever "go home"? I thought they are at home at sea? Captain Kuro couldn't handle it...can Usopp?

Thank you ocean for the chapter.

Anyway, on to my thoughts on the chapter. A great chapter overall. Like most of you, I feel relieved somehow that we are finally back to the current arc and it was a good way to end the flashback, though there are some mysteries here & there but it might be told later. I like how Calipha looked back then, who knew about her true nature. :lol:
Spandam, now that's both predictable yet unpredictable at the same time. Who knew he would make another re-entry. As for him being a leader of CP9, you got to hand it to him though, even though he's not strong but he's got a brain as sly as the snake.

As for Usopp, I think that this situation is somewhat new and Oda is trying to stir something up within Usopp as well as our perspective's towards him, which is also the same for Robin and Luffy who went through major emotional trail in this arc. In the past, when Usopp pulls something like this we always laugh at it and take it as a joke because we know that the other Strawhats are around to take care of things if it gets worse but now Usopp is by himself and with the recent fighting with Luffy as well as Franky's recent 'help' towards him, we all expected something to happen. However, nothing much happened and Usopp is still Usopp. However, I have a feeling there is something behind all this for Usopp. We just have to wait and see.

As for Chopper, he has shown himself to be worthy when the times call. I kinda have to agree that the story is kinda fast-forwarded but so is the meeting of Usopp with Franky. I think that we need to use our imaginations for the some of the obvious things happening in this arc . Oda is trying not to spend so many times on some of the obvious things…..maybe for something better that's coing up!?

Now, I want to see Sanji or Robin in the next chapter

Good chapter, as always. It's great to finally be done with the flashback. Spandam being the leader of CP9 was kind of obvious after he was introduced in the flashback but at the same time it seemed unlikely.

I think we are going to get a mini-flashback (1-2 pages top) for what happened with Chopper and company at some point. Damn did he look cool!
Poor Usopp. Discretion is the better part of valor though.
I have hopes that Kaku will eventually see that CP9 isn't really about Justice. It would be nice if he would switch sides - he could reveal CP9's weakness.

Like I said on Kefi, I can understand why Usopp backed down. I'd be pretty nervous too if I saw 4 guys take down someone tough like Franky with relative ease.

As for Spandam, I doubt he's much stronger, his accomplishments and knowledge on the blueprints case must've made him worthy to head a division like CP9.

And it looks like the Strawhats are mostly in the clear with Galley-La, it's just a matter of whether the workmen can believe that Lucci and the others are tratiors, and if Iceburg and Pauley will be up to confirm it. Chopper is friggin awesome.

Great chapter. All you Usopp hata's should take note. My boy will be kicking ass and taking names in the final fight of this arc, and you'll all be "Oh, I never should have doubted the great CAPTAIN USOPP!!!". Mark my words on this one.

Spandam being CP9 boss was a great revelation, he just looks so awesome. And Chopper busting out of the burning Galley-La HQ was a great scene. Oda, you master of masters.

Chopper will fight Lucci. Chopper will beat Lucci.

You never know what Oda has planned for Sanji. He always seems to disappear during the crucial moments, but always does something which is important. During the Little Garden arc, he managed to convince Baroque Works to stay off of the Straw Hat Crew. During the Alabasta arc, he rescued the crew from Crocodile. Perhaps he could be doing something similar here? Maybe he'll rescue Zoro and Luffy from the ocean since Luffy can swim and both he and Zoro are injured. That's what I think.

Spandam is probably much stronger than any of us are giving him credit for. He'd have to be, I'd wager, in order to be the head of CP9. How he got that strong, we won't know until Oda reveals it, but I bet it has to do with a Logia Akuma no Mi.

As for the way the battle turns out, Luffy and Zoro will each probably be able to take on one of the CP9. Luffy will take Spandam and Zoro will probably get Lucci. The others will probably end up taking on one together. I'd imagine that Robin will probably end up rejoining the Straw Hat Crew before the final battle. We'll end up getting flashbacks about her and maybe about Paulie, if Oda decides to make Paulie the new crew member. That's just my two cents though.

The others will probably end up taking on one together. I'd imagine that Robin will probably end up rejoining the Straw Hat Crew before the final battle. We'll end up getting flashbacks about her and maybe about Paulie, if Oda decides to make Paulie the new crew member. That's just my two cents though.

Luffy can't swim mind you, Sanji would swim Zoro and Luffy back to Water 7. oh and Luffy would probley crash-land on Enais Lobby(If Oda does Enais Lobby).

Oh, yeah….That was a mistake I made while typing. I meant he can't swim, of course.

awsom chapter!!! chopper was freeking sweet. mabey this is where ussop (when he finaly fights) gets his bounty that would be fun and he would be very proud of himself. i cant wait for the fighting to start. spandam looked very creepy

Agreed. Chopper needs some more stand-alone fights, it shows how he is a real pirate, and against a REAL tough oppenent.

As cool as that is, Chopper isn't strong enough to stand up against the CP9 on his own. He's strong, but not that strong. Hell…Even Zoro and Luffy have had difficulties against the CP9, and that says something. It would be cool to see Chopper have some stand alone fights where he gets to be Bad Assed.

I think this was too obvious, but, anyway, heÂ´s a great character and the funniest villain since foxy (the other members of CP9 are very cold and serious guys, with no big mouths or large laughs, TM of OdaÂ´s villains). About the old discussion about the meaning of the marks in his face, hasnÂ´t anyone noticed yet? ItÂ´s panda marks! sPANDAm!
