@dannychug:
so what seems to be worse, having your mother's love for a good part of your life and then having it ripped away like nami, or getting barely even a glimpse of love before it being ripped away like robin? of course, nami didn't lose everything else, and neither is a very good childhood experience to have, but it's an interesting comparison.
i'm glad someone brought this up, it's clear that franky's upbringing was by far the worst, not only did he get abandoned by his parents, he also (inadvertantly) caused the death of his family and then was outcast by his only remaining 'brother'.
Robin's childhood wasn't the easiest but she made a concious choice to be the only survivor and since then has evaded harm and hardship.
@Black:
Such a great chapter! This one almost tops Chopper's as sadest flashback ever. And I hope Oda ends it here. The image of Robin going out into the world, all alone, with her hometown burning behind her is the perfect end to this flashback. And it'd be nice to still leave the rest of Robin's past mysterious. All the other info about how she met up with Baroque isn't really needed, and this flashback has gone on long enough.
And if Spandain hasn't retired/died yet, he's probably in the position of head of Cipher Pols. The head of the CP's can't be Spandam, because the head of the CP's most likely is works closely with the Gorousei in Marijoa, not based in Eneis Lobby. And while CP9 is the most important of the CPs, that doesn't mean that it has the authority to govern the other CPs…...
i doubt theirs a head of ciphor polls persay, given the fact that CP9 seems to have authority over the rest of the CP's and also that Spandam as CP5 reported straight to the Gurosei.
@blacky:
I don't know if this was said already, but I was… a bit bored.
So Sauro sacrifices himself, leaving Robin alone... So sad!!! But....
Shanks sacrificed his arm for Luffy, Jeff (Sp?) sacrficied his leg and dream for Sanji, Nami's Mother sacrificed herself for Nami and her Sister, Hiruluk / Bader, the quacksalver-doc on drum, sacrificed himself for chopper and his beloved country and Tom sacrificed himself for Iceberg, Fankie and the sake of the world.
It feels as if most strawhat-members have experienced about the same tragedy in their past and as if Oda uses the same pattern on most of his longer flashbacks. Oh well, could be my imagination.... ;p
i'm glad i'm nto alone, this flashback would've been greater recieved by me if it happened during the fighting as opposed to delaying the fighting.
@Robin:
Well, yeah, exept that Nico was picked on as a child, and lost everything and everyone she has lived with. That includes Clover, Olvia, Saul and all other people. =/
Edit. Darn, darktravis came before me. :D
she knew Saul/Sauro for a day, i doubt it was that type of friendship though she obviously feels aggreived, but in the context of everyone elses back story, her's it no worse than anyone else. saying that she never dealt with it well, and i actually beleive that her's was no worse than anyone else's on purpose, if you look at the buster call and how it happened, it's been very toned down to how bad it could've been, she'd hyperboiled it alot, more so than Spandam
@Kurow:
Its finally over :D thanks god XD
Now quick Luffy vs Lucci please… and Ussop using dial weapons :)
i'm with you 90%, it's more like come on Sanji vs Lucci ;) :P
@Ubiq:
What are you talking about? We just saw it happen over the past two chapters. Ten battleships and five Vice Admirals launched an attack on Ohara. Is anybody on the island still alive? Is anything left standing on the island?
The Navy might send Marines in on a sweep to see if anything is left intact after the flames die down, but that was pretty much it. Some people seem unsatisfied with it after building up somewhat unreasonable expectations of what it was supposed to be, but what we saw:
A) did everything that it was supposed to do, which was kill or burn everything on Ohara.
B) was entirely in line with the displayed level of Naval technology.
C) made complete sense from a tactical perspective.
Anything more by the Navy is really unnecessary; it goes from overkill to a complete waste of resources after this point.
isn't it strange that just three chapters ago it looked like a laser was shot and now. this adds further weight to my theory that Oda watered this down on purpose to make it no worse than anyone elses.
@The:
This may sound weird, but the refugee ship blowing up was JUST what I needed; Aside from Spandines antics, it was the only thing in the flashback oozing malice to me, and the best flashback parts are initiated by asshole-characters.
Er, What I mean is, a thing like that boosted the drama on so many levels.
So, on the subject of the 3 admirals, we've got:
A "Red Dog", where I take red as in agressive/blood. Enforces ultimate justice, is ruthless and stern.
"blue Pheasant", as in calm, laid back, though grumpy. Enforces relative/half assed justice.
Now, For Yellow monkey it's already been pointed out that yellow can be a symbol of cowardice, but it is also a colour of kindness and warmth.
So, I see Kizeru as something between Akainu and Kiji: A (stuttering?), kind, but nervous guy, always friendly to his subordinates (perhaps uncomfortable around them?), always following orders, even if he's indescisive and nervous.
the refugee ship being blown up was a neccessary evil, it's one of those means justifies and ends, if you tone down the buster call but you want the same legend to it, you need to do that by removing contradicting stories and because robin was hiding out, she was sure not to mention it. a question stands though, how many of her crews to Aokiji wipe out directly?
@joekido:
In Spandam's mind, he thinks the BC would just BLOW up the island in 1 second. Yet in reality, it took 50 cannons to sent the whole island in flames and it took 15 mintues for Ohara to burn completly. Ineeded, Spandam is hyperbole. Blind by his power-greediness. Prehaps Robin will tell him the truth. The BC is olny inescapebel olny when it catchs you off-guard, to survive it you must be aware of it.
That was why Robin is trying to save her friends, she thought herself that the BC is unbeatible, she does not want her friends to fight it due to her experiance with it.
Robin may wanted to face it herself.
i just commented on this a few paragraphs up, maybe even the one before this, but robin's obviously made this grow within her memory and the best thing that can happen for her is for luffy and them to actually escape/defeat a buster call, but the risk is too large on the governments end, i have a feeling spandam has a fake phone and that the Aqua Laguna was actually man-made (made worse). my theory would be by Aokiji playing a game with all this wanting to see how it turns out, i have a feeling he's not done with this arc by a long shot and that he'll feel, if watching these events, that it's best robin is with this crew as opposed to any other. they have good hearts and won't allow her to fall into the wrong hands, whether they be governement, marine or pirate.
@Fire Fist:
Here's a thought:
How do you erase something from people's memories? Hypnotic suggestion.
Yellow is also the color of amnesia.
Let's say Kizeru ate a certain Devil fruit… Let's call it Oboe Oboe no Mi.
Then let's get some Den Den Mushi's... the kind that are used to broadcast to a crowd like a loudspeaker.
Kizeru: "People of the world! There was never a place named Ohara! It is simply a town of legend, told in stories! But though the town never existed, bear in mind... the government will not let any crime go unpunished! Be faithful, and serve the Government, and you will be rewarded."
Voila.
it's an interesting theory, but i think to speculate on someone just from their name is a bit too much at this moment in time,
@oceanizer:
About what the color means… I can't think of an example from top of my head, but color means differently from country to country. But now, what does yellow mean in Japan...? Hrmmm...
= Edit =
For Japanese, I think yellow has positive meaning such as ... cheerful, flashy, etc...
nice find.
