Picking up where I left off with Mother 3, which is near the beginning of Chapter 5. Mainly because I'm long overdue in completing the game, but I also want to complete it before the next Fangamer convention (and I hope my panel application was accepted!).

My dad bought a Steam controller yesterday, so I wanted to try it out. Played a game I've been meaning to play for awhile, Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons. Was really fun, I like puzzle games where the puzzles are tied into the environment and the narrative like they were here. One thing I learned about the controller though - it has a lot of customization options, and you really need to change the configuration based on the specific game you're playing. I played a fair bit of Brothers with the right trackpad acting like a mouse rather than a thumb stick, and that didn't work well at all.

best game i played this year 10/10 -
After putting it down for 2 years or so, I decided to pick up Castle in the Darkness again. It's a fast paced "retro" styled action 2d platformer that honestly feels more like someone's unpolished pet project. The problems this game has is staggering. It's really hard to speak good things about it without justifying how many problems there are. But on the other hand… in a way, it's very self aware because of the wealth of stuff it takes inspiration from. If I were to to take the most extreme influence it has to be "I wanna be that Guy". The game could get brutally unfair. It's especially bad when there's tiny i-frames for every hit you take, and death spikes placed in the most bs of places. Routing certian sections could feel like routing a speedrun at times since you'd die whole lot. Boss design is also kinda bad, as they are more you trying your hardest to manage with your extremely vulnerable hitbox and limited range options for attacking.
Despite all the pain, I really like this game despite how much I hate it. The references the game makes I feel is mostly uneeded for the most part, but some of jokes are really good and had me laughing and falling in love with the game more. There's one joke where you drop into a death pit and find a secret room near the bottom. You find two "troll" relics and on top of that, you have no way of escaping from the pit. It's like the game rewarded you with this feeling of being betrayed. What a weird game.

So I saw The Last of Us for $10 and decided to finally play it.
And that was really good! A good mix of gameplay and storytelling, and the combat was fun and not too over the top. The story was done really well, and I think they got a good balance with the pacing. Cutscenes weren't too long, and there was a good amount of them to keep me interested.
And instead of making the combat a simple guns-blazing kind of segment, the game really encourages you to make every shot count. I found myself resorting to stealth and melee fighting more often.
And as for the ending.
! I thought it played it just fine. Joel is a very complex person, and there's something really sad about a man who'd rather have the world lose a potential cure than have him suffer through the pain of losing someone he loves all over again. It's really selfish, but you see where he's coming from. And yet, he slaugthers the fireflies just to get to Ellie, which he looked pyschotic.
! It's a story that's kept me thinking for quite a while.
I think I'll give myself some time before I download the DLC Left Behind, I don't want to burn myself out. -
Raidou Kuzunoha vs The Souless Army.
You know it's a weird thing when you can hop online and find fusion guides for Persona 3,4, Nocturne, & SMT4 but yet can't find anything for this game.
And the one you do find is hard to decipher. -
Played FEAR for the last few days.
Damn it was good. I want to play it in extreme difficulty again but it requires me to start from the scratch so… -
I saw it was on sale so I picked up Assassin's creed: Black Flag. This game just aggravates me everytime I try to play. It just seems to have everything I hate
-Long sections of just walking and talking following some character
-I walk slower than them but run faster than them
-Out of no where 1st person sequence (of just walking and talking)
-Giving me control over the MC but locking me in a small room with nothign to do whilst other characters finish their dialogue. (Just make it a cutscene!)
-Absolutely terrible stealth
-Boring as fuck combat system of slapping the counter button every 2 secondsI could probably try to pay a bit more attention to the story but the characters have not grabbed me at all, I couldn't even name a single one. It's been a logn while since i've hated a game this much and it's suprising because the last Assassin's creed game I played, Brotherhood, I thoght was pretty good. I stopped playing it halway through because I'd completely burnt myself out on the gameplay from AssCreed 2 but I still found it fun. I guess maybe what i want from games has changed over the years.

Thoroughly enjoying Hearts of Stone Expansion pack, bought it a couple of months ago, but I finally have the time to play it now. Simply love CD projekt red.
-
Made a habit of playing videogames with my nephew. We played through Yoshi's Island at a leisurely pace now we are trying to play through Mother 3. We had the biggest laugh when Boney went on his
to retrieve Duster. What a goofy and loveable game.
It's the first time I am playing this one ever so it is just as exciting for me and I can't wait for my nephew to visit so we can continue. -
Played and finished Resident Evil 0 for the first time overall it wasn't a very strong entry like it's successors (it also reminded of
how unfun the fixed camera angles and boss battles were). That aside I've officially played through every mainline title in the
series. Now to wait for the RE2 remake and of course 7.P.S. - Fuck those Leech monsters and Eliminators though.
-
Started a new game in Dishonored and going high chaos this time. Love the razormines but I wish I could throw them. I'm generally not going straight into fights but I'm not being too careful with stealth much either. Clearing out entire rooms with grenades is also fun.
-
After stopping a few years ago I finally restarted and finished Atelier Ayesha. If there is one frustrating aspect of this game, as well as the other one I've played, it's how you really have to go everywhere and go to certain places with certain characters to unlock events to get accomplish the goal of the game. Thankfully if you take your time and follow your journal it's not too bad. The game centering around synthesizing is a lot of fun, and the combat system is pretty solid. Not many big monsters or bosses to fight, but there are some good battles here and there. The biggest thing I like is how the story is a change of pace from most other games. Instead of saving the world or something huge like that, you are on a personal quest which while there is a mystery in what you want to accomplish, most of it is just meeting people and learning about them. This all culminates into an interesting boss fight, where you are fighting something that was created with a purpose that just so happened to cause your problem in the first place. Their is no malice, and unlike many games you aren't angry and wanting to take this thing down, but you need to take it down. Along with the music as you fight it's actually a really well done battle.
Now at some point I need to get around to playing some of the other games.

Was just reminded that Commander Keen exists. I had only finished the first episode so I'm starting on the second episode. Really wish id paid more attention to this IP. Would like to see if they (or someone) could get the game working in 3D.

On my phone: One piece treasure cruise, Pokemon Shuffle, ShogiLite and Pokemon emerald.
On Pc: Ugh sometimes it takes so long to complete a game. Assasin's Creed Black Flag(screw uncharted chests! I am at 90% though), Fifa16(because I was hanging with a group that only plays online, and I was having them lose. A lot.) Hammerwatch.
I've been thinking of documenting(video) my gameplay + comments, I might start hammerwatch, if it turns out decent I might start sharing it. At first it would just be on game completion, if I get into it maybe I'll start doing challenges. Like no extra lives or something.
-
Played EYE for a bit in co-op but people were messing it up and kept making the game load every few seconds. At least I leveled up once. I also found out that crouch jumping is the same as having the enhanced jump on so that's nice.
-
Playing NBA 2K16. It's way above other sports games like Fifa.
-
Started a new game in Underhell and still waiting for chapter 2. Honestly one of the best games to come out in the past 5 years imo.
-
Been playing Darkest Dungeon for PC, got it for cheap during the Steam sale. Definitely challenging, battles take a lot of pre-preparation and thought. Especially with boss battles there's no guarantee everyone is getting out alive and just like good 'ol Fire Emblem dead heroes stay dead. It's enjoyingly brutal, even if it is RNG as all hell. The atmosphere of the game is really dark and depressing though, between that and the mid-high difficulty it's not for everybody. But I like it.
Playing NBA 2K16. It's way above other sports games like Fifa.
I used to play the shit out of NBA 2k13 a couple years back. 2k16 is dope too, though I don't own it. I remember playing that legacy mode thingy with Curry and becoming the MVP like twice. Who'd have thought it would turn into actual reality…

You better not even try playing online…
GSW will be so strong, beating them with a rank 1 team will give you a x2 victory bonus. XD -
I've been playing DC Universe Online. I'm collecting exobytes to create mods for my equipment so I can raise my combat rating, which is currently at 88.
-
I have started playing Valdis Story for my stream, and so far I really enjoy the gameplay, music and story.
-
im playing crash bandicoot 3 the game aged very well and still fun to play man i miss naughty dog cartoony games
-
Just played a few rounds of Worms Clan Wars with friends of mine over Skype. Had a ton of fun, confirming my feeling that those kinds of games are far more fun with friends.

Current Pokémon Go progress:
Bulbasaur (CP 58)
Pidgey (CP 42)
Rattata (CP 37)
Kakuna (CP 26)
Doduo (CP 19) -
I have a pretty long list of "in progress" games but the ones I am trying to focus on are Undertale, Final Fantasy 5, and Odin Sphere Leifthrasir.
-
Recently got a computer that's capable of running games like the new Doom and Overwatch, so I'm splitting my time between those. Surprisingly, I've even found Doom's multiplayer mode (probably the lowest point of the game, as far as reviews are concerned) to be incredibly fun (the campaign is, of course, incredible), and I rarely ever play first person shooters outside of TF2.
-
I don't suggest shmups/shoot em ups often, but I highly recommend trying out Final Boss. The public build is currently free, but it has plenty to love here. The visual style and sound direction is just so damned good!

Even is shmups aren't your cup of tea, I still suggest checking it out.

Finally finished Shovel Knight with Plague of Shadows, completed both Challenge Mode and collected all feats. Great game, but I don't think my hands will ever recover. Also Propeller Knight in Plague of Shadows without any relics and upgrades can seriously fuck off, lost like ten goddamn minutes while trying to get the Hurry Up trophy, barely made it with three minutes left.
-
SWAT 3 and SWAT 4. Kind of like 3 better but its controls are a bit harder to get used to. Wish they'd make another one and go back to what SWAT 3 is like a bit more.

Pokemon Fire Red.
I never played Pokemon before and seeing as everyone never shuts up about it and makes references to it kinda annoyed me, i felt out of the loop because it's such a big thing in geek culture. So i decided to play it and start from the (sorta) beginning; the remake to the original game.
I can see why people love it so much, it's so damn fun! you collect those cute animals, level them up and use them to fight other trainers or wild animals. The collecting part is probably the most addicting thing in it, you have all of these wild animals scattered around the region, some are very rare to come across and others are just everywhere.
They can get pretty tricky to capture, but through save exploiting i did manage to catch most of the hard ones including all 3 legendary birds. I was a little disappointed that they're already leveled up to 50 and had some really terrible moves, i wished there was a way for pokemon to relearn moves they forgot. Articuno is my favorite and i only used him out of the 3 as my Fly user. He's pretty good in battles too, Fly makes him very effective against Fighting and Plant types and his Ice moves make him effective against Rock types. By the time i got to the other two my Pikachu and Charizard were crazy strong so i ditched them in Bill's box.
The game was kinda easy tho. I only lost 2 or 3 times until i got the hang of it and used a balanced set of different Pokemons to combat most types.
I was really annoyed with some of the HMs. Fly, Surf and Water Surge were good for battling but the others were shit, they're normal types and were very ineffective against the stronger Pokemons that are seen latter in the game. I had to sacrifice one spot in my Pokemons for a HM holder Pokemon that had Cut, Rock smash and Strength, because i didn't want to give them to my good Pokemons, especially when they're fucking unforgettable moves. I hope they fixed that issue in latter games.
anyways, i had alot of fun with it. it's a good game and i really want to play it's sequels now. -
Been playing South Park Stick of Truth.
The multitude of controls and abilities can be a bit disorienting, but otherwise this is a really fun game. Not only are the dialogue and jokes just as great as the show itself, but it works really well as a fetch quest RPG.

There's a move deleter and a move relearner somewhere in Fuschia I believe, in Fire Red at least. So it IS possible to forget HMs and relearn old moves.
-
Ice isn't effective against Rock Types. In fact Rock beats Ice.
-
I think the confusion there comes with most Rock types in that region sharing the Ground typing, which is weak to ice. Another funny confusion is that rock is immune to electric, when they are not. Again, the ground subtype grants those immunities, and if the Pokemon were a pure Rock type instead.. then they'd be damaged normally by electric.

Thanks. I found the move deleter in Fuschia, the relearner is in two island. I found him before but i didn't know what he was (his mushroom request was even more confusing) so i assumed he was just another random NPC. @KageKageKing:

Hmmm… I could swear i remember Ice Beam one shot killing Onixs and Geodudes. So if it doesn't tell you that it was "super effective" then it's not a type advantage? forgive this noob lol

That's what Hiroy was talking about. Onyx and Geodude are also ground type, which is weak to ice.
-
Yeah p much all the prominent gen I rock types also had a ground typing associated with them as well. Main exceptions were the fossils, but other than that, p much all the rock types in the game had a weakness to ice and an immunity to electricity because of their ground typing

I just beat the Cyberdemon in Doom (the 2016 version). I don't play many first person shooters outside of Team Fortress 2 and Metroid Prime, but I'm really enjoying this game - this particular boss fight was tough, even on Hurt Me More difficulty (the game's medium difficulty, I believe), but it was never particularly frustrating, and I managed to land the last hit to deplete his health bar with the BFG, which was pretty satisfying.
-
So guys, who did you use the master ball on?
As i said before, i kinda scrubbed out and exploited the save state feature in the emulator to get the rare pokemons, i saved before throwing the ball so whenever it fails i just go back until the pokemon is captured. So i found no use for the master ball.
is there a pokemon that could only be cought by it? is it Mewtwo? i haven't gotten into his cave yet… -
Any of the legendaries can be caught with any level of pokeball, it just depends on your luck.
But to save on pokeballs and time, people often just immediately throw the master ball.

Bought Arkham Knight last steam sale. Very cool game, one of the best from last year, if it weren't for the constant CTDs. The game crashes every second session, wtf I never played an indie- or low budget game who does this. And there are betas from other AAA games out there more stable.
-
^Arkham Knight is one of the worst ports to PC in quite a while. I don't know how you haven't heard this. They even were forced to take it off Steam due to the launch backlash and added it back with a few fixes, but it's still not very good.
Played a few hours of Pathologic HD. Like it a lot. Wasn't really able to get into the game initially when I played the original, not sure why, might have been the translation, which was redone for the HD version because the original one apparently wasn't very good. They're also remaking the game with some changes so I can basically play it again when that comes out.
-
LoL was getting boring, so I decided to make a gimmick, I wrote the name of every champion on tiny pieces of papers, then I put them in a bowl, everyday I raffle one champion and I have to win a game for each skin I own for that champion.
Yeah, is not a new thing, but it did put some new fire to the game.
Besides that, I am thinking on buying BroForce, but I wonder if I will have fun playing by myself.

After getting my old PS2 to work again, I finally bought and started playing Persona 4. It's the first Persona game I've played and hot damn. Certain bits of it leave me really frustrated (the lack of saves through the dungeons, the expensive price of items, the amount of grinding required), but at the same time, I don't think I've been this excited to continue playing a game for a while. I'm waking up every day and booting the PS2 so I can spend more hours in front of it. I must have been somewhere in high school the last time a game gave me this feeling.
The gameplay is really addictively engaging with its combo of the instant rewards growth in the social side and the more strategic dungeon crawling. The characters are pretty memorable and, though I haven't gotten to the meat of the plot, it is still enticing. I'm at the end of the second dungeon, doing my grinding for its boss now and really can't wait to keep going further.

Our favorite rubberband has finally bounced into the fold. I unno if it counts necessarily as grinding (and maybe they changed the scaling by the time I did P4G) but I didn't really feel like I ever needed to deliberately grind, though. I do end up thoroughly exploring dungeon floors before moving on, though, I suppose. If there was a time when it felt like scaling was at its most difficult, I'd say it was the beginning, though.

When Persona 4 came out I had just clocked in like 200 hours on Persona 3, so I wasn't in a hurry to go out and get it. Then I waited, and eventually got it on the PS3. It's sitting there on my harddrive, waiting to be played… really want to play it.
Right next to Suikoden 1 and 2... Life is Strange... Xenoblade... Witcher 3... Trails in the Sky... KOTOR... And dozens of platformers... I've got like 600 hours of games stocked up.
At least I'm finally getting through Fire Emblem... and playing a bunch of Smite and Dark Souls... and One Finger Death Punch...

I'm playing two Sega Saturn games right now, Burning Rangers and Deep Fear.
Burning Rangers is a game about firefighters and has a story similar to Sonic Adventure 2. The game also plays like a Sonic game, probably because it made by Sonic Team. Definitely loving this game!
Deep Fear was made by Sega and it plays a lot like the old Resident Evil games and it's also a really enjoyable game (which, to me, is strange because I was absolutely terrified of the classic RE games when I was a kid and I STILL am). One of these days, I'll conquer the hurdle of RE and Deep Fear (or RE4) is the stepping stone for me.
