I'm actually gonna miss Agents of Shield. Now that's something I wouldn't have said last year.
! If I had to describe these final episodes it would be "fun". I had so much fun watching it. Seeing all the references. The ones I got and the ones I'm headed for the AoS Reddit to learn after this.
! I'm satisfied with everyone's ending and I'm REALLY glad no one died. They played that card too many times already. Great seeing Flint and Piper and DAVIS (I guess that's what Piper wanted [along with the audience]).
! Nat wasn't all that special even at the end but he did his job as an antagonist. And, thanks goodness the season wasn't about him so it didn't matter either way. Gotta say, Sybil was a good villain. I wasn't feeling it early on but they did a good job with her as the main antagonist.
! Overall, I'm glad we got this season. AoS was able to end on a high note instead of what we got last season. While not my favorite TV show, it was a good ride (mostly).
Alright, I will accept this thread as my own. :ninja: Even though now I won't really be posting in here anymore…
But anyway, yeah that's it. I've seen the final episodes of Agents of Shield. And I'm satisfied. Of course, not 100% satisfied because I'm capricious and impossible to please. But it was good.
Agents of Shield S7 Ep12 - The End Is at Hand & S7 Ep13 - What We're Fighting For
(I have no clue what's up with these spoiler tags. It won't let me delete the ones inserted right in the middle unless I get rid of all of them. Timey-wimey parallel worldy stuff, I'm sure) >! Okay, this one's gonna make it seem like I hated the episodes. Which I didn't. I quite enjoyed them. But many things irk me and I have to type them out, sorry about it.
! Oddly enough, the exact opposite of what I thought would happen occurred (I must be a Predictor chronicom). I feel like they gave us a pretty great series finale, but it was somewhat lackluster as the S7 finale. Suddenly, a lot of things seemed rushed at the end and we couldn't really revel in any of our triumphs. Specifically, the showdown with Nathaniel was…boring. Did he even use Kora's powers at all during the fight? Is that what made them explode? Or was it the radioactive plastic balls that Daisy warned us about 10 minutes prior as if we were supposed to know what they were. That was unsatisfying.
! I think my biggest gripe with the finale and the season as a whole is, unfortunately, Kora. I still don't think she got enough time to develop or to make me as a viewer understand her. I can logically follow that she was devoted to Nathaniel because he saved her life, but I didn't really get it. Why did we need the romance/kissing? Why does she seem to change her mind every scene? Why does she not care that Nathaniel speaks to her like she's 10 years old about the bad people and the good people in the world? I still like that we (and Daisy) got her because Ohana means family and she gives us another form of that (well, the quite literal one). Family has always been a big part of basically any Whedon production. They spell it out for us, too which I didn't mind at all.
! Oh, more gripes! I'll get to the good stuff soon though. What's with nobody giving a shit about Deke? He's also literal family! They joke a couple times about Daisy not even acknowledging him and then he once again 'sacrifices' himself to help the team and there's zero reaction. Disrespectful.
! Then there's the fact that I don't think all the characters were used that well. I understand that it's incredibly hard to find something pivotal to do for like eight
! different people. But they used to be more adept at it in other episodes. Maybe I'll abandon this critique on a rewatch though.
! Lastly, the story crafting wasn't as unpredictable as it has been in the past. It seemed very clear throughout the episodes that they kept hinting about FitzSimmons' daughter and they even dropped her name beforehand. So the big reveal wasn't exactly shocking. But maybe that's okay. Maybe it's better to have a well-crafted story rather than be erratic for the heck of it, espcecially for the finale. Again though, I feel like they've done this better in the past.
! That's all the negative stuff I can think of right now, so let's move on to the parts I enjoyed. Were there any? Yes. But only one big one. I loved the ending they gave us. They had to rush everything beforehand (including giving us voiceover while the opening credits were still going; shave off those seocnds!) so they were able to give us the meeting in the virtual safehouse in all its glory. Very somber and sad because that part of their journey together is clearly over. But obviously hopeful and lighthearted at the same time. There should be a word for that. I am quite pleased that they gave us the one-year after and even showed us everybody in action one more time in their respective environments. That was fantastic.
! Other than that, there were little moments because there always are.
- The reveal of Alya wasn't shocking but it still made me emotional.
- The time-travel/world-hopping explanations they gave us worked for me. And it was fun to have them (sort of) interact with their past selves.
- Deke doing an impression of Bobo!!
- Fitz being so much more relaxed and happy after having lived a couple peaceful years with his family
- The Coulson academy part was cute and I like that they actually set it up in S6 already, so it didn't come out of nowhere.
- And, oh hey, Coulson doesn't want to be switched off, after all. I get the impression that he's living on a day to day basis. But as long as he has his family around him, he won't leave, I'm sure.
- Daisy didn't die in an explosion. They had me for a second.
! I'm glad they got to do two more season because if this show had ended after S5 I would have been devastated for years to come. It's what happened to me with the only other show (like ever) that I used to watch week to week as it aired, when HBO's Looking was canceled after two seasons. That show did get a movie though…
I'm gonna miss quoting you, Huschel! Gonna miss quoting everyone in the thread. Guess I should read what Huschel said and comment (I rarely read the comments in here first. I just want to talk to people about AoS.)
…Okay, here we go...
! I agree about Korra but I can help loving her and Daisy getting along at the end so I'll forgive the show. As for this season being more about the series than the season, I agree and I'm glad they went that route.
! Crapping on Deke is a running gag so I didn't think much of it. And, it wasn't like he was dying or didn't like the 80's but yeah, it sucks that he's in a different timeline now. Deke was a great addition to the show. Right up there with Mac and Yo-Yo. They may not give him respect but I will. Love ya, Deke!
! And, yeah, I love the meeting. That's what I wanted, seeing the cast be (mostly) together one last time.
