@access-timeco Oh!!! I certainly never thought of it from that angle! Also I didn’t realize that Lucci showed us a Zoan user doesn’t have to use an awakened form if such a form was already obtained.

I like this idea, never thought of that. But as far as I remember, Oda never really went back to Kaido's suicidal tendencies after his introductory chapter back in Dressrosa. I don't think it was ever even acknowledged after that, so maybe it's am aspect of the character that was dropped by the time he was fully presented in Wano.
I’d say Kaido brings this up again when he mentions in Wano “death completes a person”.
This in conjunction with him getting mad his fights with Oden and Luffy had been interrupted suggest to me that he had been wanting to die a gloriously flashy death, one he felt would complete him.
And seeing how he got fisted into lava soup, he may have gotten just that.

Whenever I see "Wano" I remember how that 1 child truly dragged this arc. The big 3 trash parts of this arc were
3 Oda overdoing it with Zoro getting lost. He was right there. I get that if they were separated, it is ok to pull the Zoro meme, but he was right there with them. Meaning he got off the ride for no explained reason and the next time he's seen, Oda uses the "Komainu got lost with me on it". Not even humorous. Just lazy. You want to separate them, then do it. On the back of an animal, he has to get off of it to make sense.
2 Roof top bs. It has recently gotten worse than before because I initially thought it was just chapters 1001, 1002, and 75% of 1003. 62% of 1000 is also part of that mess. Oda got too carried away. Fully suspending the rest of the war for a battle that isn't even the moment. Reading it weekly, I could feel it and was right. They were going to be separated. Luffy and Kaido were separated at least 2 more times after that.
Time passing in 1 area, while off panel, time is barely going in the other events is just sloppy storytelling. It is just embarrassing to read that in rereads. I thought it was bad in the weekly, wow.
