One Piece World Seeker (PS4, Open World(?), 2018)

thanks for the video, J-Sack! great stuff, indeed.
ok, video summary:
! - Game's lenght is aprox. of 25 hours, but you can easily double that if you take on all side quests and achievements of the game;
- It takes place after WCI, so you'll be able to unlock all Luffy's iconic techniques up to the ones used in WCI (huge wink to Snakeman?);
- Every Admiral that is on the island has been summoned for a different reason, but there's a clear threat to the WG in the island;
- This game is inspired by western games like GoF and Assassin's Creed
- There'll be a crafting mechanic to elaborate meals for Luffy, since he likes to eat so much
- You can upgrade your skills, so you can use your points to make either your stealth or agressive mode more successful/powerful
- The W.G. base is located on the floating fortress shown in the recent trailer
- Release date already defined, it shall be out in the world in the next big video game event (TGS, Paris Week…?)
- Initially, we'll only have one attack buttom - but you can customise it (it isn't clear how this is going to work)
- No english dub, but localized subtitles (German, French and English guaranteed)
- The game has been in development for aprox. 03 years now, and Toei and Sueisha have been directly involved. Oda is involved as well, but they didn't disclose how far he went because it's gonna be a big deal and they are saving it for later.
- There are no ship battles in the game
- The basic lore is that there was a huge war on the island over some minerals that can be used for technological purposes (and can be sold for gold), so the marines make an aggressive take-over pretending to care about the civilians, but they are actually trying to control de extraction of said mineral. A tyrannical regime is implemented on the island, and when Luffy gets to know about this oppressive force, he rebels against it. It is structured the same way an anime arc would be.
- The development team is aware that the game looks kinda empty, and they say that the actual game will be "full of life". But because the game story begins after a war, we will see the impacts of it. It was reassured that there will be a lot of cities, environments, buildings, flora and fauna and such.
- The dutch interviewer is really annoying

Thanks! I really do hope its at least 50 hours for completion and that the maps won't be as empty as they seem but I doubt both. Low expectations and being a one piece fan is why I will still buy and enjoy this. I mean, it just looks like a detailed Pirate Warriors 3 Mosou. I actually like the 3rd person camera angle.

This means that either their marketing strategy is really bad or their quality target goal was really low. Let's hope for the better, if what they say is true this could be a rare case of advertising that shows much less than the actual game :wassat:

Thanks for the summary!

I'm still not that excited yet. Gonna stick with the plan to watch someone's playthrough on youtube after release before deciding if i want to buy it.
50 hours after completing the sidequests feels pretty short for this kind of genre. As a comparison, I've just finished zelsa botw main quest with very minimum side quest done and it took me 45 hours.

BOTW was pretty damn long, though.

I played this at Gamescom. It was eh in my opinion. I wish being able to swing around was as good as in Sekiro or Spider-man.
-
Delayed to 2019.
-
THANK GOD! That's the smartest move Bandai Namco could make.
-
Wonder what amde them delay it:
Did they felt after impressions from Gamescom they could use a delay?
Adding a Switch port?
Namco cold feet and pushed it out?It doesn't even have a release quarter.
-
Hopefully they are adding a special mode where you play as Buggy instead of Luffy.

I hear that they delay it due to the PS4 Spiderman game getting great reviews and being a better One Piece game than One Piece.
So maybe they delay it because of bigger titles and many people asking BN why the game sucks in gameplay.

The game will probably come out March or April. Next month is Red Dead (and the start of the annual holiday titles like CoD and AssCreed), Pokemon in November, Smash in December, and while these games aren't all in direct competition, if I can only buy one game, One Piece is low on that list. Especially open world games, I'd pick up Spider-Man, Red Dead, or Assassin's Creed before I get World Seeker.
February is equally packed. I think early Spring is this game's best bet.

We are due a trailer at TGS, so maybe we will get some more news then and an official statement on the delay.

I hope to see something about this evil regime and what forces it has.

Yeah, unfortunately this game will be beaten to pulp if they decided to go against those games. We have KH3 in late January as well.
If they announce a switch version, i might gonna buy that version instead of the ps4 one. So far this game looks 'switch level', unfortunately. Not that switch is bad or anything, mind you.

Bandai Namco will be having a stage presentation for One Piece: World Seeker on September 23rd at Tokyo Game Show.

Hopefully something substantial out of this, unlike that OP 20th anniversary stream.

Officially delayed, producer comment:
In the official announcement, Bandai Namco Chief Producer Koji Nakajima offered an explanation for the delay. Nakajima stated, “One Piece World Seeker is the most ambitious One Piece game ever. We’re aware of the huge potential for the game and want to ensure we match fans’ expectations. As such, we took the difficult decision to move the release date and use additional development time to create the best game possible.”

Weekly Shonen Jump #42/2018 presents 2 new characters created by Eiichiro Oda: Issac (a scientist of the Marines related with CP-0) and Jeanne.
We can see a Top Secret part too with a cyborg or a robot designed by Eiichiro Oda too
-
Finally! More of this, please. So much more interested in new characters than others from the series.
-
Here's how Issac and Jeanne look-

[qimg]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dm4mBRHWsAAUQEC.jpg[/qimg]Isaac is voiced by Koyama Rikiya as expected, so he'll probably be the main antagonist of the game.
Wonder if they'll explain the teaser image with burning Marijoa anytime soon. -

That's good to know, but either they take a huge amount of time to improve the game or it will be useless. I don't have big hopes, I'm already looking forward to the next "big" One Piece game (I know it's premature, but the burnout has been enormous).
Today the game has been shown to the Italian Gamestop national reunion, an event where store managers get to see the new upcoming games. I'll report news if something new has emerged, but I doubt it.

Scan !
-
Isaac (voiced by Rikiya Koyama) – The “Warden” that rules over Jail Island from behind the scenes. A scientist who controls the super science that led to the island’s abnormal development, he is also a former marine that wields incredible fighting strength. While he is cautious of every force, his true intentions are shrouded in mystery.
Jeanne (voiced by Ayumi Fujimura) – A girl who loves what the island used to be, she is the leader of the Anti-Marine Party. She is a rebel who understands there is a rift that runs between the islanders living in the city and the islanders living in the countryside. She will take up arms against the Marines that changed the island with science.
-
Not going to lie I though Jeanne was Carrot for a second there
-
Design of Isaac and Jaenne
Design of the Robot !
-
Oda loves him some short shorts on long legs, I've noticed.

New PV

Cover !

Simply awesome. As much as I want to play the game already, let it cook. Tighten up that gameplay.
-
I agree. This can truly be something special if Bandai Namco play their cards right.
-
-
Is there anything new from that video?
-
New story trailer feels straight up like Oda giving them a script for a movie he had lying around. All the typical elements from the movies are there. xD
I really hope the story is entertaining, most importantly the gameplay should be fun though.

It lacks a kid tho
-
Wasn't there a kid in the scenes on the beach.

Yeah, it feels like watching a trailer for thr new movie.
Hopefully the villian is as interesting as shiki or z or red.
-
Isaac reminds me of an Ace Attorney villain.

New Pics
-
So whole crew is always there yet we only play Luffy? Sucks.
-
It allows them to try and do more with the game. Personally, hearing only Luffy was playable is what got me hyped.
-
Given this game's genre being able to play only as Luffy is acceptable for me, I hope that having a focus on his abilities will make the whole game more optimized and better built around him. If this goes well it could even open a lot of possibilities for a sequel, maybe a bigger story where you get to use the rest of the crew when it's their time (and if we want to dream bigger an open world post main quest where you choose who you control… yeah, that will never happen :getlost:)
-
If it does well, the next could get a bigger budget. I think they need to a better job advertising. It needs to be introduced to game journalists in the states. I don't think they have shown it off at all here. Not even the press events where they invite outlets to try games unless there is just a weird embargo on this one.
-
I assume a hot spring thing, can anyone translate?
-
So, how does that thing about Mariejois being on fire tie into the game?
